Commentary

And that's a wrap on the Afghanistan-Zimbabwe series! Now, all eyes are on the Women's World Cup final in Navi Mumbai, where India has posted an impressive 298. South Africa is gearing up for the chase. Switch tabs to get updates from that contest. Cheers.

Ibrahim Zadran, the Afghanistan skipper and Player of the Series, expressed satisfaction with the series win despite not getting the desired result in the Test format. He credited his success to his intent to score big runs and praised his teammates, particularly Mujeeb, for his bowling and Rahmanullah Gurbaz for his batting, which put pressure on the opposition. Zadran also highlighted the team's collective effort, saying everyone played well together.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the Player of the Match, attributed their success to the team's plan to go deep and build a strong partnership. He praised his opening partner, Ibrahim Zadran, saying their communication and understanding is special. Gurbaz also mentioned he had been struggling to score big lately but was happy with his performance today, contributing to the win.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza expressed satisfaction with his team's performance and his own contribution. He appreciated the team's demand for a big innings from him and felt they played well after a subpar series. Raza also praised Ryan Burl's batting, saying he needed that knock and had been hurt more than anyone with this defeat in particular.

Presentation ...

Abdullah Ahmadzai was the star with the ball for Afghanistan, claiming 3/42, while Fareed Malik and Fazalhaq Farooqi chipped in with two wickets each. The spin duo of Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman also contributed, picking up one wicket each. This win marks Afghanistan's third consecutive T20I series whitewash over Zimbabwe, solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the format.

Chasing down a massive total set by the visitors, Zimbabwe's top order stumbled, Dion Myers and Brian Bennett getting off to a slow start. However, Sikandar Raza and Brian Bennett steadied the ship with an 85-run partnership. Raza's 51 and Bennett's 47 kept Zimbabwe in contention. Ryan Burl's scintillating 37 gave Zimbabwe a glimmer of hope, but Mujeeb's canny bowling for Burl's wicket proved to be the turning point. Despite a late fightback, Zimbabwe fell short, all out for 201.

Afghanistan have etched another feather in their cap with a thrilling 9-run victory over Zimbabwe, sealing a 3-0 whitewash in the T20I series. Opting to bat first, Afghanistan's openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran set the tone with a 159-run partnership. Gurbaz's explosive 92 and Zadran's 60 helped Afghanistan post a mammoth 210, which turns out to be more than enough for the visitors to inflict a whitewash.

Commentary

We are back for the second chapter to unfold! The two umpires have stepped on the field. Ibrahim Zadran has a few words to his teammates before they scatter to take their fielding positions. Brian Bennett and Dion Myers will open for the Chevrons. Fazalhaq Farooqi will start with the new ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

With a daunting target of 211 now ahead of them, the onus is entirely on the Zimbabwean batters to produce a special chase. They will need a spectacular effort, perhaps a performance mirroring the initial brilliance of the Afghan openers, to seriously challenge this total. Can they do it? We shall find out soon. Chase coming up shortly...

The innings was given a late flourish by Sediqullah Atal, whose quickfire 35 ensured Afghanistan crossed the 200-run mark to set the challenging target. While the hosts, Zimbabwe, managed a moment of brilliance with Sikandar Raza's stunning catch to dismiss Gurbaz, their fielding was generally poor. With the ball, Brad Evans picked two wickets, but conceded 14 runs in the final over. Sikandar Raza was wicketless but was very economical.

So, Afghanistan end up with a formidable total of 210 runs thanks to a spectacular batting display, primarily from their opening pair. They exploded out of the blocks, taking 19 runs off the very first over and setting the tone for a massive score. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran launched a serious assault on the Zimbabwean bowling attack. Gurbaz was the chief aggressor, falling just short of a century with 92 runs in the 16th over after a sensational catch by Sikandar Raza, with the scoreboard reading 159. Zadran followed soon after for a well-made 60, but the damage was already done.

We are all set for the game to begin. The umpires and the players are out in the middle. Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz walk in with their blades for Afghanistan. Wellington Masakadza has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

Pitch Report - There is a bit of breeze and no chances of rain. The surface is a bit dry and it's a used surface. There are a few cracks, but it won't bother the batters much. The spinners will come into play later in the game.

Sikandar Raza says that they would have batted as well. He adds that they are a lot better as a batting unit but it hasn't worked quite yet. Adds that they have learned a lot from this series and they will give their best. Ends by saying that Clive Madande comes in for Tony Munyonga.

Ibrahim Zadran, the skipper of Afghanistan, says that they will bat first. Adds that its a used pitch and it will be on the slower side. He says that physio suggested Rashid Khan to take some rest, but he is fine. He says that they have got two changes in their side.

Afghanistan (Playing XI) - Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Ibrahim Zadran (C), Sediqullah Atal, Darwish Rasooli, Shahidullah Kamal, Sharafuddin Ashraf (In for Rashid Khan), Mohammad Nabi, Fazalhaq Farooqi (In for Azmatullah Omarzai), Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fareed Ahmad, Abdullah Ahmadzai.

Zimbabwe (Playing XI) - Brian Bennett, Dion Myers, Brendan Taylor (WK), Sikandar Raza (C), Ryan Burl, Tashinga Musekiwa, Clive Madande (In for Tony Munyonga), Brad Evans, Wellington Masakadza, Tinotenda Maposa, Richard Ngarava.

TOSS - Afghanistan won the toss and have elected to BAT first.

Afghanistan, by contrast, have been in commanding form. Their bowling unit set the tone, with Rashid Khan producing another match-turning spell. Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been exceptional as well throughout the series, bagging four wickets in the first and two in the second. Azmatullah Omarzai played an interesting role in restricting Zimbabwe as well. On the batting front, opening batter Ibrahim Zadran has found form. His unbeaten 57 in the last match helped close out the chase with ease. With the series already theirs, Afghanistan will look to keep their momentum, rotate the strike smartly, and let their bowlers attack freely. But the question lingers, will the Chevrons be able to pull themselves out of the grave? Or, will Afghanistan be able to whitewash the series by winning all three matches? Stick with us to find the answers. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates!

For Zimbabwe, the series has been rocky so far. In the second T20I, they were bowled out for just 125 and could only watch as Afghanistan strolled to victory. Skipper Sikandar Raza chipped in with 37, but the supporting cast failed to convert starts, which underlines the lack of cohesion in the batting order. On the plus side, bowlers like Brad Evans have shown a spark by taking three scalps, which gives them a glimmer of hope, but it faded away as the match progressed. For today's match, Zimbabwe's batting order needs to pull up their socks to give some fight against their opposition. The bowling unit performed well in the second match of the series compared to the first and needs to stick to the same strategy to eliminate the Afghan batters.

A very warm welcome to all the cricket fans joining for the buildup for today's clash. We're gearing up for the final showdown of the 3-match T20I series as Zimbabwe takes on Afghanistan in the 3rd T20I at the Harare Sports Club. Afghanistan have already clinched the series with wins in the first two games and will now aim for a clean sweep, while the Chevrons will be desperate to salvage pride and end on a good note.

... MATCH DAY ...

This is the final and deciding game of the three-match T20I series, and while Afghanistan has already secured the series with back-to-back wins, Zimbabwe is desperate for a face-saving victory. The home side, led by Sikandar Raza, is low on confidence after struggling with the bat in the previous matches, losing the last one by seven wickets. They need a massive turnaround, especially from their underperforming top and middle order, with players like Brian Bennett, Dion Myers, and the returning Brendan Taylor expected to step up and build crucial partnerships with Raza and Ryan Burl. Their bowling attack, featuring Richard Ngarava and Wellington Masakadza, also needs to find early breakthroughs against a confident Afghan batting lineup. Afghanistan, on the other hand, comes into this game brimming with confidence, having won five of their last six encounters against Zimbabwe and looking for a clean 3-0 series sweep. Captain Rashid Khan will be pleased with his team's form, especially the strong performance of the bowling unit in the first two games. The batting also looks solid, with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran providing excellent starts. The middle order, anchored by Sediqullah Atal and supported by players like Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi, is expected to continue their consistent run. For the hosts, the pressure is immense. The top order's repeated failures have set the tone for their losses, and they need a significant contribution from them to post a competitive total. Beyond the experienced pair of Raza and Burl, players in the lower middle order like Tony Munyonga and Brad Evans must also fire. The bowling is equally under the scanner, with Ngarava and Masakadza needing to be more threatening at the start, and Raza and Evans doing well in the middle overs to contain the flow of runs and apply pressure. Afghanistan’s game plan will likely be simple, repeat the successful formula of the first two matches. Rashid Khan will rely on his star spinners, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, to strike early alongside Azmatullah Omarzai, before taking control himself in the middle overs with Fareed Ahmad Malik. Given the momentum and recent history, Afghanistan is the clear favorite to complete the clean sweep, but Zimbabwe will be playing for pride, and it remains to be seen if Sikandar Raza’s men can rise to the occasion and pull off an upset in the final T20I.
