Commentary

Zimbabwe go 1-0 up - There was never any doubt about the quality of Zimbabwe's bowling stocks at home. They gave very little away and when it came to landing the killer blow they did not fail at that. Unlike Bangladesh, who reduced Zimbabwe to 70 for 8 and still let momentum slip through, allowing that partnership between Ngarava and Newman to develop. Surely this defeat will sting Bangladesh a lot, but both sides will have plenty to reflect on when it comes to the way they approach this pitch with the bat in the remaining two matches. The 2nd ODI will be played on Thursday, 9th July 2026 and the first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 7.30 am GMT. Zimbabwe will aim to seal the series then and there and will come inspired by this famous win, whereas Bangladesh will have to work really hard to find the equaliser. Our buildup will begin well in advance, so do join us for that as well. But for now, we sign off. Cheers.

The victorious captain of Zimbabwe - Richard Ngarava says he is really pleased with the way they bowled. On the belief within the camp while defending a modest total, Richard shares that the discussion in the dressing room centred on the idea that Zimbabweans are capable of fighting their way through any situation and that belief carried them through. On defending 141, he says he confidently believed in the team knowing who they are, adding that they have often spoken about fighting until the very end and that is exactly what played out on the day. About his ninth wicket partnership with Nyamhuri, he details that the plan was to keep things simple by watching the ball closely, playing according to what it was doing and letting the ball dictate the shot. On leading the side to victory, he calls it a great feeling, especially with a few new players having come into the side, and he hopes starting the ODI series with a win can set the tone for what follows. On the support from the fans, he says he is delighted to have put smiles on their faces, not just for himself but for the whole team. Adds that seeing the crowd rallying behind them felt special and refers to them as the side's 12th man.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - NEWMAN NYAMHURI receives the award for his outstanding all-around display. He scored a precious 33 (51) and also picked up a couple of crucial wickets. Nyamhuri says that he is very happy to have done the job for the team. Mentions that their mindset was to put up a fight and mentions that the captain gave him good encouragement. End by saying that the wicket was very seamer-friendly.

The captain of Bangladesh - Mehidy Hasan Miraz reflects on the defeat. On Bangladesh's bowling performance, Mehidy Hasan Miraz says the side bowled really well, with special praise for Nahid, whose six-wicket haul he calls exceptional. He notes that the partnership between Ngarava and Nyamhuri yielded crucial runs for Zimbabwe and admits a little disappointment with how the batting unit went about its business. On Rana, he says the pace spell was great and that the pacer has been bowling excellently over the last few series. He adds that Bangladesh can still do better with the ball and need to focus on hitting the right areas consistently. On the batting collapse, he admits a little disappointment with how Bangladesh went about their chase, noting that getting a partnership going in the first 10 overs would have been important, and says the side will look to improve on their batting in the second game.

... Time for the post-match Presentation ...

Let's hear it from Brad Evans - He says that when you try to defend such a low total, you have to look for wickets, and when it comes off like this, it feels special. Feels that the opposition also bowled really well, and they were even fine with defending 120 runs at one point. Further mentions that they kept pumping themselves up and always knew there was a wicket or two right around the corner.

Rana on a hunt - It is winter time in Zimbabwe and the weather today carried a chill of its own but it was Nahid Rana who turned up the heat with a spell of express pace that scorched through the Zimbabwean innings. It all began with a run out involving Ben Curran and things unravelled quickly from there with wickets tumbling one after the other. Taskin struck the early blows before Rana took over and kept hammering away at the heart of the Zimbabwean batting. He walked away with career best figures of 6 for 21 in 10 overs including two maidens. 141 is all Zimbabwe could manage to post in the end. But had it not been for the fighting 63-run stand between Ngarava and Nyamhuri, the total would have looked a lot leaner. This was a pitch where batters needed to be watchful against the new ball and spend time at the crease as it eased out for batting later on. If the lower order managed to scrounge a few vital runs, the top order, which looked in a hurry from the outset, will feel they could have added a lot more given how the surface only got easier to bat on as the innings wore on.

Slashing and throwing - That's what the Bangladeshi batters repeatedly did, never learning from their mistakes. Zimbabwe needed an inspiring Powerplay to put any sort of pressure on the tourists to defend a paltry score. And the likes of Ngarava and Muzarabani got the new ball talking, which made the Bangladeshi top order dance on its tune. Within a blink, they were 17/3 with the top three blown away, playing rash shots. Bangladesh made heavy weather of the chase but Hridoy and Nurul dropped anchor and showed good character, absorbing the pressure to forge a responsible 49-run alliance. But, a brainfade moment to take the attack on splashed water on all that hard work and doused the momentum they had built and from there the innings simply came crashing down. And just like that, 66/3 became 99/8, eventually getting bundled on 116.

Patience pays, impatience punishes - There is a saying that one should never underestimate the power of patience in life and this game offered a perfect lesson in exactly that. Bangladesh seemed to forget that basic virtue altogether. Time and again, the shot selection from the Bangladeshi batters raised eyebrows with players looking to force the issue on a pitch that demanded restraint rather than adventure. Loose strokes against a testing line and length undid the good work built by the bowlers earlier in the day and turned a defendable total into a match-winning one for the hosts. It was a stark reminder that even a modest score can look imposing when the chasing side fails to respect the occasion and the conditions on offer. But to be fair, batting from both sides was fairly erratic throughout the contest.

The Chevrons fly high - A famous, famous win for Zimbabwe. They had already wrapped up the One-off Test match in under three days and now with just 141 runs to defend they have pulled off a stunning victory in the ODI as well. Honestly, even with the kind of bounce and movement the surface offered it felt like Bangladesh would not make a mess out of chasing this down, but guess what, they have. However, this will feel more like a self-inflicted defeat for Bangladesh. But credit must go to the hosts for holding their nerve and grabbing every chance that came their way.

33.1W

OUT! CAUGHT! That's it, it's all over, and Zimbabwe win by 25 runs. Richard Ngarava goes searching for the straight yorker and lands it full on middle. Mustafizur Rahman backs away a fair bit and lifts the ball a long way in the air towards mid off. There's no timing on it and Blessing Muzarabani takes a fine catch running back over his left shoulder. The skipper seals the deal and Zimbabwe take a 1-0 lead in chaotic fashion.

Richard Ngarava (7-1-31-2) is into the attack now. Can he provide the killer blow for his side?

32.60

Way too short and outside off, Rana pokes at it, but it is out of his reach.

32.50

A more of an assured appeal for caught behind this time, but again, the umpire turns it down. Newman Nyamhuri hammers the good length and darts the ball in. Nahid Rana hops back and is nearly cut in half as the ball grazes the underside of his right arm and goes through to the keeper.

32.40

Fuller in length again, angled into the batter, Rana tentatively blocks it off.

32.30

Half a shout for caught behind, but the umpire isn't interested. Full and sliding it well into the legs. Rana backs away, but the ball keeps angling in and goes past the inside edge. A good diving take from Clive Madande to his left.

32.20

Banged in short and wide outside off, Nahid Rana slashes at it but fails to connect for the umpteenth time.

32.10

Pitched fuller on middle, Rana drills it back to the bowler. who makes a good stop on the followthrough.

Full ball, and on leg, following the batter. Mustafizur backs away, but is cramped up for room, and fends it out awkwardly.

31.50

Short of a length, around off. Mustafizur Rahman stays leg side of the ball and tries to pull it but misses because of extra bounce.

31.44

FOUR! The Fizz has got a hold of that one. Banged in short again, around waist height, Rahman wallops it well in front of mid-wicket and picks up a boundary.

31.31

Up in the air, but PUT DOWN. Brad Evans hammers the shorter length and Nahid Rana goes after it, miscuing it back over the bowler's head. Blessing Muzarabani at mid off moves to his right and lunges for the catch but shells it. Single taken.

Shortish length, angled well in, Mustafizur Rahman gets low to fend it away but gets hit onthe arm guard.

30.51b

A close call, but the correct one in the end. Blessing Muzarabani bangs it in well short and Nahid Rana looks to take it on. The ball flies over the willow and the keeper Clive Madande leaps up, parrying the ball behind. The fielder at first slip picks it up and the batters are slow to go for the single. Innocent Kaia gathers the ball at the batter's end and whips off the bails, but replays confirm that when the bails were fully dislodged, Mustafizur Rahman just managed to sneak his bat past the line.

A review for run out at the batting end. But it looks like Mustafizur is just in. Oh, this looks close than it appeared to be in the real time. Kaia collects the high throw from the keeper and breaks the stumps with both hands covering the bails. The key question is where the bat is at the moment the bails are dislodged. After a long check it is ruled that Rahman is safe.

30.44

FOUR! That's drilled down the ground. Full and on off, Nahid Rana makes room and smashes it to the right of the diving mid off fielder and picks up a boundary.

30.30

Good length, pushed wide of the off stump, Rana stays leg side and throws his hands at it but fails to lay a bat on it.

30.21

Full and straight at the stumps, Rahman keeps the front leg out of the way and jams it across to wide mid-wicket for a single.

Commentary

We are back for the chase. The umpires are back out in the middle as the Zimbabwean players form a huddle before taking their places on the field. It will be the duo of Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar to open the innings for Bangladesh. Skipper Richard Ngarava will take the new ball himself. Let's play...

... The Run Chase ...

A tough task at hand - Zimbabwe started very positively with the bat as both Ben Curran and Brian Bennett put the bad balls away. However, Curran seemed too eager on picking up the quick singles and he was run out via a sharp fielding effort from the opposition skipper. This opening wicket really shifted the dynamic as Brian Bennett got out soon after and Craig Ervine fell for a duck. Zimbabwe were languishing at 70/8, holding on for dear life to get to the three-figure mark, but then came the fightback. Richard Ngarava and Newman Nyamhuri put on 63 runs for the 9th wicket and gave the hosts something to build upon. 141 should still be very tough to defend, but with early wickets, you never know. Stay tuned as the un chase is up in a bit.

Let's now hear from Bangladesh's other speedster - Taskin Ahmed says they are really happy with the way they bowled, but admits that they could have done much better. Accepts that they conceded a few runs in the end. He notes that the bowling unit has been performing consistently well over the last year. On the conditions in Harare, he draws on his past experience of the ground, noting that pace bowlers usually find something in the surface for the first 10 to 15 overs before it eases out for batting. He says Bangladesh wanted to make the most of those early conditions and felt they bowled well at the start, adding that this is an experience the side will carry into the coming matches. On chasing the total, he feels the wicket is playing quite well at the moment but remains confident that Bangladesh have bowled well enough to get over the line. On Nahid's performance, he says he has watched him closely over the last two months and has been impressed with the pace and improvement he has shown, calling him a fine prospect for Bangladesh and hoping he continues to serve the side well going forward.

Rana's rise continues - The Bangladesh bowlers didn't hit their stride early on, bowling a bit too short and wide, but Mehidy Hasan Miraz's run-out of Ben Curran changed everything. The bowlers also seemed charged up and Taskin Ahmed broke through twice in quick succession. Then came Nahid Rana into the attack, and he dismantled the Zimbabwe batting order with ease. A stellar five-for and Bangladesh had the hosts on the ropes at 70/8. They let things slip a bit and conceded plenty of runs before Rana came back and broke the frustrating 9th wicket stand. He ended up with the best figures for a Bangladeshi bowler in ODIs as he got 6 for 21 in his 10 overs.

End of the fight - Newman Nyamhuri is the last man dismissed for Zimbabwe, and he's given the bowlers something to bowl at. However, Bangladesh will be more than pleased with that effort, and a target of 142 shouldn't be too much of a fuss for them.

36.4W

OUT! CAUGHT IN THE DEEP! Miraz wraps it up. Full, flat, and around middle, drifting across the batter. Newman goes down low on a knee, looking to take the bowler on with the sweep but gets a top edge that flies to deep backward square leg. Tanzid moves a bit forward off the ropes and completes the catch after a bit of a juggle. Zimbabwe have been bowled out for 141. But had it not been for the fight from Ngarava and Newman, the total could have looked a lot more sorry for the hosts.

36.30

Fuller once again, on the stumps, Newman Nyamhuri opens the bat face and angles it to point.

36.20

Pushed through, full on off. Newman Nyamhuri leans on and eases it out to point.

Pearler to end the spell! In the corridor of uncertainty, around off on a good length. Newman Nyamhuri is drawn forward to drive it to the off side, but the ball straightens up to beat the outside edge. Rana has a half-hearted appeal for caught behind, but nothing doing. He finishes off with brilliant figures of 10-2-21-6.

35.50

Digs it short and over the top of the stumps. Newman Nyamhuri squats under it.

35.40

This one cuts back into the batter, on a length, on middle. Newman Nyamhuri rocks back and looks to defend, but gets a thick inside edge to the mid-wicket region.

OUT! KNOCKED HIM OVER! Smart bowling from Nahid. After a barrage of short and length balls, he goes full and gets the reward. Almost a yorker, around the middle stump line, pitches and nips back in just a touch. Ngarava is expecting another short ball and is caught off guard. He swings his bat without any footwork, is beaten on the inside edge and the ball crashes into the leg stump. A truly fighting knock from captain Ngarava. Zimbabwe are 133/9, after 33.2 overs.

OUT!

An ungainly attempt from Taskin as he tries to hack the short ball across and get it over mid-wicket, but the ball gets big on him due to extra bounce and gets sliced in the air towards the cover fielder. A simple catching practice for Craig Ervine, who moves a bit to his left to pouch a straightforward catch. Third wicket for Evans and Zimbabwe are just one wicket away from a famous win. DRINKS BREAK! The partnership between Hridoy and Nurul is worth 23 runs now, but they have taken their sweet time in stitching it. But by doing so, they have neutralised the scare of a procession of wickets which we saw happening with Zimbabwe in the first innings. The pitch is expected to flatten up as the game progresses and probably these two are playing the waiting game before launching. Zimbabwe have shown the control with the ball, but they can only win this by picking all ten Bangladesh wickets. The visitors are still ahead in the game as they need 102 runs from 35 overs. 13.40

13.30

Hard length on off, Hridoy taps it in front of covers and looks for the quick single. Nurul Hasan responds but Hridoy quickly sends him back as he sees the fielder pouncing on the ball.

Fuller one outside off, seams away beautifully. Hridoy gets a stride across and then shoulders arms.

13.12

Full again, on the pads as well, tucked away neatly through mid-wicket for a couple of handy runs.

WIDE! Pitched up around middle, the ball darts a long way down the leg side. Clive Madande dives to his left and makes  good stop.

Just 1 run in the last 3 overs for Bangladesh. Sometimes, this kind of a dip in scoring can create unwanted pressure on the batters. These two have consumed a lot of balls now, but still haven't looked settled out there at all. But while chasing a target of 142, you can surely take all the time to flush the threat of a slide. There is still something for the bowlers in it. For now, Brad Evans to continue.

12.50

A bit slower, full and outside off, inviting the drive. Hasan ends up miscuing it across to wide mid on.

Newman Nyamhuri is loosening up now. We will surely see him into the attack very soon.

12.40

Pitched a bit fuller and just outside off, Nurul Hasan presses halfway forward and blocks it off.

Finally, a run and Hridoy is able to get off strike. Good length over off and middle, pushed in front of mid on for a run.

Immaculate length from Muzarabani, just a bit too high, though. Fullish length around off, seams back in. Hridoy leans on to block but the ball misses the inside edge and hits the batter high on the pads.

Back of a length, around off, Hridoy plays it with soft hands in front of cover-point and looks for the quick single, but the fielder is quick to get to it and Hridoy turns back.

Oh, a lovely outswinger to end the over, a maiden as well. Pitched fuller and outside off, Towhid Hridoy is drawn across to drive, but the ball seams away and beats the outside edge. There's an enquiry for caught behind, but the umpire shakes his head.

10.50

Sharp work in the field and there's no way out at the moment for Hridoy, and he's on 4 off 28 balls. Back of a length, around off, Hridoy smacks it down but Innocent Kaia makes a sharp stop at short cover.

10.40

Bashed on a shorter length again, outside off, Hridoy hops across to pull but miscues it badly to mid off.

That must have hurt. Hridoy cops a blow right below the ribcage. He removes his gloves straightaway and looks in a bit of pain, but sends back the physio. Takes a bit of a breather and looks fine to continue.

10.30

Ouch, that is a sore one for Hridoy. Blessing Muzarabani serves it a tad shorter and gets the ball to jab back in like a long way. Hridoy gets cramped and takes a blow to the ribs. The physio starts to come out but Hridoy sends him back.

Good length, attacking the top of off, Hridoy gets on the front foot and defends it to cover.

8.20

Direct hit, but danger averted! Short of a length, around off. The ball rears up and Hridoy hops on the toes before dropping it in front of backward point. He is straightaway off for a single, but is sent back by Nurul on a sharp call. Hridoy turns back to return and there is a direct hit at the batting end. The Zimbabwean players appeal and the on-field umpires send it upstairs. The third umpire checks the replays and Hridoy is found safe.

Is that a run out? Towhid Hridoy is annoyed with his partner but replays show that Hridoy managed to plant his bat inside the crease before the direct hit at the striker's end. NOT OUT.

A bit of a halt in play as the physio comes out to give Towhid Hridoy some treatment. Hridoy got hit around the right elbow and seems to be in a bit of pain. Hopefully, he is fine. After a bit of along halt, we are good to continue again.

He leaps a bit to pluck the ball, but realising that the running momentum is taking him over the ropes, he lobs the ball before and comes back in to complete the catch in the second attempt. The umpires have sent it upstairs for a review, and it is deemed a clean effort. Bangladesh are 11/1, chasing 142.

Has that been taken cleanly? Newman Nyamhuri seems to have done exceedingly well to avoid the ropes and take it on the second attempt, but the third umpire is having a look at it. The slow-mo replays confirm that he's managed to steer clear of the boundary ropes. OUT comes up on the screen.

8.60

A wicket-maiden for Taskin. Full of a length, slightly wide outside off. Sikandar Raza lifts the back leg again as he makes an easy leave.

8.50

On a good length and outside off, swinging away, Raza shoulders arms at it.

8.40

Good-length delivery, in and around off, Raza pushes it out to covers.

8.30

Hard length, in the channel and shaping away, Sikandar Raza shoulders arms at it, a bit dramatically as well.

8.20

Oh, half an appeal for LBW, but the umpire says no. Taskin Ahmed goes wider on the crease, bowls it a shade fuller and darts it into the batter. Sikandar Raza falls over to the off side as he looks to flick and is beaten past the inside edge, getting pinged on the pads. Going down leg on the angle, probably.

36/0 has suddenly become 38/3 for Zimbabwe. Bangladesh are on top right now with Taskin breathing fire. Sikandar Raza walks in at number 5 with an aim to rescue his team from trouble. Three slips and a gully in position.

8.1W

OUT! TIMBER! Craig Ervine is castled first ball and Taskin Ahmed is having a ball out there. He's now on a hat-trick as well. Ahmed lands it on a three-quarter length around the leg stump, and gets the ball to hold its line. Ervine tries to block but plays all around a straight ball. The ball beats the defences to knock over the top of middle stump and Ervine has to walk back for a golden duck. Zimbabwe are 38/3.

Change? Not yet. Taskin Ahmed (4-0-23-1) to continue.

A string of five dots to close out the over. Back of a length, straighter in line, Innocent Kaia tucks it across in front of square leg.

7.50

Good-length delivery, in the channel and angling away. Kaia shoulders arms at it.

7.40

Length ball, angled across the off stump, Kaia hops across to the off side and defends it out.

Ouch! Kaia is immediately down in pain as he is hit around the box. Or, probably, might have pulled something as Craig Ervine is helping him out with some stretching. The physio is out now as well to check on Innocent. Eventually, he is up on his feet and ready to resume.

7.30

A long and loud appeal for LBW, but the umpire turns it down. Mustafizur Rahman lands it on a nagging length on leg and gets the ball to shape back in a fair bit. Innocent Kaia looks to flick but falls over a bit and plays all around it, getting hit on the pads. Kaia seems to be in a bit of pain as the ball might have grazed the inner thigh. Maybe the ball was doing too much.

7.20

Good-length delivery, on off, Innocent Kaia blocks it off.

7.12

Shorter in length, on leg, nudged away off the back foot and past the square leg region for a couple of runs.

Double whammy from Taskin and all of a sudden, Bangladesh are in command. Craig Ervine, the veteran, is in at number 4.

OUT! TAKEN! Two wickets in the over and the momentum has shifted pretty quickly as Zimbabwe lose both their openers. A regulation length ball from Taskin Ahmed, just outside off stump. Brian Bennett leans into the drive and punches it, but a bit uppishly. The ball is hit straight to square cover and Mosaddek Hossain makes no error. Zimbabwe are 36/2 after 7 overs.

6.50

The Free Hit doesn't cost anything. Ahmed hits the hard length, Brian Bennett looks to swing it leg side, but miscues it badly in the air and on the bounce towards mid on.

Needless throw of a wicket on a No Ball. There was no run there at all. Bangladesh have been excellent in the field and they get the reward. In walks Innocent Kaia at number 3. But Bennett will face the Free Hit ball.

6.51W+nb

OUT! BEN CURRAN IS RUN OUT! That's sensational fielding from the Bangladesh skipper, but Ben Curran was playing with fire, trying to pinch a single there. Taskin Ahmed pitches the ball up on off stump, and it is called a No Ball for overstepping by the umpire. Curran just pushes it down in front of mid off and sets off for the single. Mehidy Hasan Miraz runs in, dives forward, picks up the ball and flicks the throw in a motion onto the stumps at the bowler's end. Replays show that Curran is well short. Free Hit to follow as well.

Is Curran run out at the non-striker's end? Looks like it. The Bangladesh players are pretty confident. Excellent direct hit by Mehidy and yes, Curran is caught short of his crease. OUT loads on the big screen.

6.41

Ahmed hits the deck hard and angles it into the batter. Brian Bennett has an agricultural hoick at it but gets it off the inside edge down to the left of deep backward square leg for one.

Nahid Rana is loosening up in the outfield. Looks like he will come into the attack soon.

6.30

Hard length, in line with the stumps, Bennett gets on the back foot and blocks it off.

6.23

A lovely shot on the up from Curran. Good length, in and around off, Curran just presses back a bit and punches it through the gap between point and covers and collects three runs.

6.14

FOUR! Streaky! Taskin bangs it in short over middle and leg, Ben Curran comes down the pitch, taking on the pull but gets a top edge that flies down to deep third for a boundary.

5.60

Good shot, just too straight. Full-length delivery, shapes back into middle. Brian Bennett nails the straight drive but hits the stumps at the other end.

5.52

Buzzers! That's a bit scrappy from Bangladesh. Length ball around off, Bennett stands tall and laces it towards the cover fielder. Rishad Hossain fumbles and the batters scamper through for a single. Hossain recovers quickly and hits the stumps at the bowler's end but Bennett is in, and the ball deflects away a bit further, allowing the batters to pick up the second run as well.

5.40

Good length on off, blocked off by Bennett.

5.31

A direct hit, but the batter is well in. Good length on middle, Curran stays compact and just nudges it into the leg side, setting off for the single. Mustafizur Rahman scurries after it and picks up the ball, turns around and hits the bullseye at the non-striker's end, but Curran has made his ground. Good cricket all-around.

5.20

Perfection from the Fizz. Fuller now, seems to be angling in towards the off pole, but nips away late. Curran is drawn forward and the ball just whistles past the blade.

5.10

Good lift off the deck. Length ball, wide outside off, and there to be hit. Ben Curran goes for the booming drive but the ball shapes away with extra bounce and beats the bat.

Halfway through the Powerplay. It's been a positive start for Zimbabwe. Bangladesh missed out on a genuine chance of Bennett early doors. Only time will tell how costly will that prove. Mustafizur Rahman (2-0-9-0) continues...

Should have been punished, but Ahmed gets away with it. Short of a good length, well wide of the off stump. Brian Bennett throws his hands at it but fails to connect as his feet stay rooted to the crease.

4.50

Much better from Ahmed. Hard length, darting back in from outside off. Bennett stays back to defend.

4.40

Back of a length, slightly closer to the off stump in terms of the line. Bennett goes hard at it but jams it down to cover-point.

4.31

Curran comes down the pitch, trying to put the bowler off his length. Ahmed darts it into the pads and this is tucked away behind square leg for a single.

4.21

Taskin bangs in another shortish delivery outside off, Bennett flashes hard and gets a thick outside edge down to deep third for a single.

FOUR! Uppish but in the gap. Back of a length, wide outside off, Ben Curran hangs on the back foot and just reaches out, punching it past the point region for a boundary to end the over.

3.50

On a good length, around the top of off, Curran solidly blocks it down to cover. Five dots in a row now.

3.40

Bowled a bit fuller now, on off, Curran gets pushed onto the back foot and dabs it down to backward point.

3.30

Width on offer but the batter misses out. A bit shorter and wider outside off, Ben Curran looks to thrash it through the off side but gets beaten by the movement and the extra bounce.

Uppish again, but in the gap. Short of a length, angled across off, another tenattiove poke from Curran and he gets it through the vacant gully region for a single.

2.51

DROPPED! Should have been taken, and Rishad Hossain is the culprit. Taskin Ahmed hammers the shorter length, darting it away from the off stump. Bennett presses back and has a late push at it and hits it towards uppishly to wide gully. Rishad Hossain leaps to pluck it over his head, but spills the regulation chance. Single taken.

2.43

Fractionally short now, angled across off, Ben Curran hangs back and plays a short-arm jab in front of square leg. The fielder, Towhid Hridoy, dives to his right, gets a hand on it and the ball goes through. The mid-wicket fielder, Najmul Hossain Shanto, chases it down before the ropes and the batters pick up three runs.

2.30

That in-between length now, pitching on off and angling back in. Curran defends it out with soft hands.

2.20

Good length on the pads, shaping in. Curran awkwardly fends it just in front of square leg and looks for a quick single, but Bennett rightly sends him back.

Back of a length, angled a fair bit across off stump. Curran hangs back and just has a feel for it, but is well beaten.

1.50

That's a snorter from Mustafizur Rahman. Fizz hits the deck hard, bowling it on a good length on middle. The ball pitches and darts away with some sharp bounce. Passes millimetres away from the outside edge of Bennett's bat as he looks to block off the back foot.

1.44

FOUR! SHOT! The Fizz goes fuller in search of some swing, but overpitches the ball around off. Brian Bennett plants the front leg ahead and smacks the drive between cover and extra cover for a boundary.

1.30

Good length, on a tight line on middle and off, Bennett gets pegged back and looks to dab but edges it back into the body.

1.20

Half-hearted appeal for caught behind, not given. Definite deflection, probably off the pads. Full and on leg, shapes back in, Bennett looks to flick but misses and it goes through to the keeper.

1.11

Rahman lands it full of a good length, gets it to nibble away from the off stump. Ben Curran stays back and taps it through backward point to get off the mark with a single.

Decent start by Taskin. Got the ball moving in and out, hitting good areas. Mustafizur Rahman will share the attack. A slip and gully in position for Curran.

Just a boundary off the first over. Pitched fuller and outside off, gently seams away off the deck. Bennett plays well inside the line.

0.50

Loose, too loose from Bennett. Length again, well outside off, shaping further away. Bennett's feet go nowhere as he throws his hands at it but can't reach it.

0.40

Good length, in the channel outside off, going straight on. Bennett makes a watchful leave.

0.30

Top comeback delivery from Ahmed. Back of a length, on off, the ball angles in and then leaves the batter. Bennett tries to get behind the line and block but gets squared up a bit as the ball zips past the outside edge.

0.24

FOUR! A glorious shot to get going. A bit too full and too wide outside off, Bennett nails the cover drive, hitting it on top of the bounce and through the gap for a boundary. Zimbabwe are up and running.

0.10

Movement straightaway! Taskin begins on a shorter length, pitching it well outside off. The ball shapes away with some extra bounce. Brian Bennett has a loose waft at it and gets well beaten.

Done with the pre-match rituals. It is now time to get the ODI series underway. The weather is quite chilly out there with a fair bit of cloud cover. So the conditions are pretty friendly for seam bowling. Out walk the two umpires. Mehidy Hasan Miraz leads his troops out to the middle as the players of Bangladesh scatter across the park. Brian Bennett and Ben Curran are the two Zimbabwean openers. Taskin Ahmed has the new ball and is raring to go. A couple of slips in place. Bennett is taking the strike. Off we go in Harare...

Time for the national anthems. Both captains lead their respective sides to the middle and get lined up. It will be Bangladesh's first, followed by Zimbabwe's.

A chat with Zimbabwe's rising star - Brian Bennett says that it is all about putting in the hard work and it's been a while since their last white-ball game. Adds that he keeps training every single day and tries to do the basics right. Further mentions that they have a different seam attack from the Test match, which will be a of a challenge and ends by saying that he loves cricket and to be able to represent the national team feels great.

PITCH REPORT - Ed Rainsford says that pitch number 4 will be used for this match. Notes that it is a brand-new surface. Athar Ali Khan says it looks pretty similar to the pitch used in the Test match. Observes that there is a bit of grass on it. He anticipates some nip off the surface along with extra bounce which means batters will need to be watchful especially through the opening exchanges. He also points out a few cracks in the surface positioned in front of the stumps and warns that anything landing there could behave unpredictably. When asked what bowlers need to do to exploit these conditions, Rainsford points to the winter months, bringing added moisture to the surface. He advises bowling a consistent channel and keeping the stumps in play early on. He expects the pitch to flatten out over time and turn into a good batting surface as the game progresses.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (C), Nurul Hasan (WK), Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Nahid Rana.

Zimbabwe (Playing XI) - Ben Curran, Brian Bennett, Innocent Kaia, Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Wessly Madhevere, Clive Madande (WK), Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri, Richard Ngarava (C), and Blessing Muzarabani.

The skipper of Zimbabwe - Richard Ngarava says that the team is prepared and the batters are ready to take on whatever is in front of them. Adds that you need a few tweaks to go from Test matches to the ODIs. Adds that they have a few changes in the team from the Test matches, with the likes of Wellington, Ryan and Raza returning.

The captain of Bangladesh - Mehidy Hasan Miraz says the wicket has a little bit of moisture, and since it is a fresh wicket, they want to take the early advantage. On the planning coming into this game, he stresses that they need to build a partnership at the top of the order. Reflects that they have played some excellent cricket in the last four series, but says it is a new ground, new conditions, so they will have to play positive cricket.

TOSS - Toss time in Harare. Mehidy Hasan Miraz calls. He calls correctly, and Bangladesh will BOWL first.

Bangla Tigers looking to roar - Bangladesh, under the ODI captaincy of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, will be desperate to put behind their disappointing Test defeat and orchestrate a turnaround. While the red-ball performance left a lot to be desired, the visitors have historically excelled in the ODI format, carrying a formidable streak of four consecutive bilateral series victories before arriving in Zimbabwe. The squad receives a massive boost with the return of an established white-ball core, including Litton Das, Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman, giving them the necessary firepower to hit back hard. Should be an entertaining watch, stay tuned for the toss and team news.

Looking forward to a home World Cup - Hosts Zimbabwe head into the 50-over leg brimming with confidence, eager to replicate their red-ball dominance. Newly-appointed captain Richard Ngarava is set to lead the ODI side for the very first time. He will be heavily backed by a familiar and robust core featuring the explosive all-round depth of Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl, alongside the lethal pace of Blessing Muzarabani. Opener Innocent Kaia, fresh off his magnificent maiden Test century of 140 runs, also makes a high-profile return to the ODI squad to solidify the top order.

Take 1 of 3 - Hello and welcome to Harare. Following Zimbabwe's historic and emphatic innings-and-85-run victory in the one-off Test, the focus completely shifts to white-ball cricket as Zimbabwe host Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series, beginning now.

... MATCH DAY ...

Back to white ball - The all-format series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh now moves into its second leg for an exciting three-match ODI series. All matches of the longer white ball format will be exclusively played at the Harare Sports Club before the base shifts to Bulawayo for the T20Is. After sweeping aside Bangladesh in the recently concluded One-Off Test, which lasted just about three days or so, the Chevrons have spring in their steps. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have now lost two of their last three Tests against Zimbabwe and will look to better themselves, dust off that embarrassing defeat and come back with a reset. Aim to level up - Zimbabwe's Test heroics in Harare came with plenty of swagger, but their white-ball record at home tells a very different story. Since March 2023, they have managed just two bilateral ODI series wins at home from six attempts, getting the better of the Netherlands in 2023 and Ireland in 2025. The rest has been a struggle, with defeats to Pakistan and Afghanistan and a total whitewash at the hands of Sri Lanka in that same window. Into the Ngarava era - Zimbabwe turn their attention to a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh, and there's a fresh face at the helm. Richard Ngarava takes charge of the 50-over side for the very first time, having been handed the captaincy late last year. He steps into the role vacated by Sean Williams, who is currently in rehab. The squad itself reads like a reunion. Innocent Kaia walks back into the fold on the back of his maiden Test hundred, ending an ODI absence stretching all the way back to December 2023. His form has been red hot lately, having also struck a superb century on Zimbabwe A's recent tour of Bangladesh. Joining him are senior pros Ryan Burl, last seen in ODIs in January 2024, along with Tadiwanashe Marumani and Wellington Masakadza, both returning after February 2025. Ngarava will lead the pace battery himself, backed by Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, Newman Nyamhuri and Ernest Masuku. Muzarabani has been the pick of the lot, picking up 54 wickets since the last ODI World Cup, more than any other Zimbabwean bowler in that stretch. On the spin front, Zimbabwe opt for the allrounder route, leaning on Ryan Burl and Wessly Madhevere to share the load, while Wellington Masakadza offers the left-arm option. Reinforced with experience - Bangladesh have some welcome news heading into the three match ODI series against Zimbabwe, with in-form Litton Kumar cleared to play after shaking off a calf injury. He missed the one-off Test against Zimbabwe due to the same issue, picked up earlier during the series against Australia in Dhaka. His return adds valuable experience to the squad, especially with Mushfiqur Rahim no longer in the picture after retiring from the format. Das himself has featured in more than 100 ODIs, putting him in select company alongside captain Miraz and Mustafizur the only three players in the current squad to have reached that mark. The tourists have named an unchanged squad from the one that dismantled Australia at home, and really, why fix something that clearly isn't broken, eh? Soumya Sarkar is another bloke with a fair experience and since the last ODI World Cup, he is Bangladesh's leading run scorer on away soil, averaging 53.4, including a fifty and a half ton in six innings. Whereas Towhid Hridoy has been in fine touch too, leading the run charts for Bangladesh in that span with 931 runs, with vice-captain Najmul Hossain Shanto not far behind on 916. Allrounder Mosaddek Hossain is another name to watch, having made a roaring comeback to the ODI setup against Australia with vital contributions in both departments. However, the bigger concern for them lies right at the top of the order. Since the start of 2026, apart from that one 105-run opening stand between Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan against Pakistan in Mirpur back in March, Bangladesh's opening pairs have failed to cross even the 30-run mark in any of their other seven out of eight innings. With runs elsewhere hard to come by against a disciplined Zimbabwe attack, sorting out that fragile start could well decide how this series pans out. On the bowling front, Nahid Rana promises to be a real handful on the bouncy Harare tracks. He has been Bangladesh's leading wicket-taker in 2026 in this format, picking up 20 scalps so far. Backing him up is the experienced trio of Mustafizur, Taskin and Shoriful, while Rishad, Tanvir Islam and Miraz form the frontline spin options. Team form (Last 5 completed ODIs, recent first) - ZIM - LLWLW | BAN - LWWWW. What to expect? Conditions in Harare during July lean firmly towards winter cricket, with crisp mornings, minimal rain, and surfaces that tend to offer something for the seamers up front before flattening out as the day wears on. Expect early movement for the new ball bowlers, followed by a period where stroke play gets easier, and spinners coming into their own through the middle overs as the pitch slows down. History is firmly on Bangladesh's side coming into this series. The two sides have met 81 times in ODIs, with Bangladesh winning 51 of those to Zimbabwe's 30. With conditions likely to offer a bit for everyone, the contest may well come down to which side handles the small margins better, Zimbabwe's fragile batting order or Bangladesh's away day blues.
