The late drama - The pair of Rahim and Shanto settled in nicely until a flash of drama hit late in the session. Rahim survived a dropped catch when batting on 25, and in the very next delivery, Newman castled Shanto's resilience, flattening the middle stump to snap a 61-run stand. With Rahim still fighting hard, there were no panic stations yet for Bangladesh. But Muzarabani strangled him down leg to cap off the session beautifully in his side's favour. Batting hasn't been straightforward on this wicket, but evidently, once the ball goes softer, it tends to settle nicely. However, with half the side gone already, the way ahead is going to get steeper and steeper for Bangladesh as they don't have much batting left after this. Experience steadied the ship - That's when experience took charge. The arrival of Mushfiqur Rahim and Najmul Hossain Shanto brought instant calm to the middle, even as the scoring rate dipped, with just 47 runs coming in the first hour. But with the first line of attack now out of the way, the pair grew steadily more assured at the crease. And as the shine wore off the ball, batting turned considerably friendlier. Although Mushfiqur Rahim was troubled all through the short stuff from the Zimbabwean pacers, even taking a stinging blow on his left elbow, he continued steadily, looking assured at the crease.

Music of pace and bounce - It was a breathless beginning on the third day. Muzarabani and Evans gave the batters absolutely no room to breathe, with steep bounce and immaculate lengths doing the damage. Muzarabani got the rewards almost instantly as he accounted for the overnight pair of Mominul and Hasan Joy, setting the tone early in this session. From 41/1, Bangladesh slipped down to 46/3 in just about a couple of overs and with two new batters at the crease, they were forced to do the reconstruction once again.

After bowling out the visitors for a meagre 140 in their first innings, the hosts built a massive response, finishing their first innings with a mammoth 410 runs. ... DAY 3, SESSION 1 ...

A test of character - In the dying moments of the day, there was little for Bangladesh to gain. To their credit, though, they did not simply shut up shop and put away the loose balls whenever the opportunity presented itself. That approach will serve them well as they look to chip away at the deficit that stands at 230. Zimbabwe's seamers, meanwhile, will be eager to make the most of the morning conditions and peg the tourists back early. Having course-corrected after a wayward opening spell on Day 1, they will be keen to start with greater discipline and ask questions from the outset. Pressing home the advantage - Brian Bennett and Innocent Kaia set the tone for the day for Zimbabwe with a 107-run stand. Bennett was the aggressor, while Kaia played the perfect foil before going on to bring up a well-deserved maiden Test hundred. Bangladesh found an opening by picking up three wickets inside the first hour of the second session, but any hopes of running through the rest of the batting order were dashed by a 102-run partnership between Craig Ervine and Wessly Madhevere. After Ervine's departure, Madhevere received little support from the tail, but by then Zimbabwe had already built a sizeable cushion and eventually finished with a 270-run lead.

A lone bright spot - With just four runs separating them from parity at the start of the day, Zimbabwe's priority was to see off the opening hour before looking to build on their lead. Bangladesh were desperate for early inroads, but their seamers lacked consistency and failed to exploit the assistance on offer. That largely summed up their bowling effort. Lead continues to grow - 210 ahead already, it is a sizeable lead, but Zimbabwe will want to bat for as long as possible and tire out the Bangladesh bowlers. For most of the day, Taijul Islam has operated tirelessly from one end, while Najmul Hossain Shanto has rotated his three seamers from the other. However, none of the quicks has managed to produce the same level of consistency or sustained threat as Taijul. The third and final session of the day will get underway at 12.30 PM GMT. Bangladesh kept at bay - If the visitors were hoping to run through the rest of the batting order, much like Zimbabwe did yesterday afternoon, it did not quite pan out that way despite taking the second new ball as soon as it became available. Craig Ervine and Wessly Madhevere stood firm and ensured the hosts did not lose another wicket in the session. To their credit, they did not shut up shop either and cashed in on the loose balls.

Zimbabwe hold firm - The afternoon session was a tale of two halves. First hour - 44/3 in 14 overs | Second hour - 57/0 in 13 overs. After toiling away for much of the first session without much reward, Taijul Islam broke through by removing both well-set batters, while Bangladesh were gifted another wicket through a run-out. The early departure of Bennett also helped the tourists gain much-needed control.

Bangladesh search in vain - Khaled Ahmed accounted for the only wicket of the session and looked sharp in both spells, but it was Taijul Islam who consistently posed the biggest threat. Extracting sharp turn and bounce from the surface, the left-arm spinner repeatedly tested the Zimbabwe batters and came close on several occasions, only to be denied the breakthrough his efforts deserved. At the other end, Innocent Kaia and Brian Bennett remained composed yet positive in their approach, stitching together an unbeaten 106-run partnership to put Zimbabwe firmly on top. The hosts will be eager to build on that stand after the break, while Bangladesh will be hoping a change in fortunes helps them strike early and spark the fightback they so desperately need. A century to remember - Zimbabwe began Day 2 with a watchful approach, aware that seeing off the first few overs would be crucial. Bangladesh found the breakthrough they had been searching for when Khaled Ahmed produced a beauty to dismiss Brendan Taylor, briefly lifting the visitors' spirits. But that was as good as it got. Innocent Kaia continued to look rock-solid at the crease and, alongside Brian Bennett, gradually wrested back control of the morning session. The duo steadily extended Zimbabwe's lead to 46 before the drinks break, with Kaia reaching a magnificent maiden Test century to cap a memorable innings and put the hosts firmly in control.

LUNCH, DAY 2 - SESSION SUMMARY - 113 runs and 1 wicket in 27 overs! Zimbabwe continue to dictate terms in this one-off Test after a commanding morning session. The hosts weathered the early pressure before batting with patience and intent to extend their lead to 109 runs. With momentum firmly in their favour, Bangladesh will need a much-improved effort in the sessions ahead to fight their way back into the contest.
