Commentary

Right then, we are done with the Super 12 stage and are ready with the line-up for the semifinals. Have to say, this has been quite an enticing World Cup so far with cut-throat competition between all teams. Now we can expect the action to get more intense and thrilling as we move into the knockout stage. The first semi-final will be in Sydney where New Zealand will go up against Pakistan on Wednesday, 9th of November. It will start at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT). The second semi-final would be played at the Adelaide Oval where India will lock horns against England on Thursday, the 10th of November at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT). So, two blockbuster games await us. Do join us for the build-up of those games nice and early. Till then, it’s goodbye and cheers!

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of India says that it was a good overall performance and something they were looking for. Mentions that they have qualified but they wanted to play the way that they did and they got a lot from the game. Credits Suryakumar Yadav for what he is doing as it is remarkable and he is taking the pressure away from the other batters which is quite important. Adds that he allows others to take time and the confidence he shows brings ease to the dug out. Goes on to say that they expect this from him and he has grown from strength to strength. Claims that the key for them is to adjust to the conditions and says that they played recently at the venue so they know what to do. Admits that England is a strong team and it’s a semi final where two teams will be going at each other so they should not forget what got them there. Adds that it is a high pressure game but they take a lot of pride in qualifying and understands that if they play well, they have one more good game after that. Ends by saying that the crowd has been brilliant and have come to watch wherever they have gone, so he expects nothing less in the semi-final.

Craig Ervine, the skipper of Zimbabwe says they could have changed a couple of plans. Mentions that the initial plan was to bowl wide yorkers but they could have taken some pace off the ball. Credits Suryakumar Yadav for taking the game away from them. Claims that leading up to the tournament they had a  positive approach with the bat but in the last two games they have gone into a shell and lost that positively. Adds that they need to counter that by moving around a bit and being proactive. Admits that the last few results didn’t go as planned but they did really good work to get into Super 12. Ends by saying that in the last few games their ground fielding has been poor but they fought hard during this World Cup.

Suryakumar Yadav  is the Player of the Match and he says that the plan with Hardik was clear and they wanted to take a positive approach. Adds that when they started connecting their shots and getting boundaries, they decided to continue. Mentions that the atmosphere in the team is really nice and the build-up to the tournament was good. Claims that his plan has always been clear and he attempts to see what the team needs in any particular situation. Admits that it feels really good to be in good form but it is important to start from zero. Ends by saying that they have qualified for the knockouts and he wants to see how it goes but he is thankful for the support.

Time for the Presentation.

India, on the other hand, would be pretty happy with the clinical nature of this win. Suryakumar Yadav was absolutely fantastic at the death which took India to an above-par score and after that, the way Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh swung the ball was quite commendable. India managed to take three wickets in the Powerplay and all Indian seamers made sure that Zimbabwe were never given an inch before the spinners came into the attack. Indian spinners, Ashwin and Axar Patel struggled initially but then came back strongly to pick four wickets between them. Overall, a convincing performance by India, and it would be interesting to see how they go about their business in the semi-final now.

In the first half of the game, India posted a huge total courtesy of some quality batting by KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav. The target of 187 was always going to be tough for Zimbabwe and the 79 runs they gave away at the death with the ball, took the momentum away from them. Sean Willians took two wickets with the ball but with the bat, he could not score much. The top 3 batters before him also failed to make a mark and it was only the partnership of 60 runs between Raza and Burl that gave the Zimbabwean fans something to cheer about. However, they were never in this chase, and once that partnership was broken, Zimbabwe ended up folding quite quickly on 115. Zimbabwe have played some good cricket in this tournament though and they would be looking to build up from here and come up with better performance in the future.

India have registered a dominating win here at the ‘G’ and have finished at the top of the table in Group 2. They will now go to Adelaide to face off against England in the semi-final and this is exactly the kind of morale-boosting win a team needs before going into a knockout game. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, have played some brilliant cricket in patches but they need to be better with their execution with the bat to challenge big teams consistently.

OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Axar Patel finally gets his wickets column ticking! The Zimbabwe batting has crumbled once again and India have celebrated their semi-final qualification with a thumping win. Commentary

We are back for the run chase and we are hoping for an intriguing contest. The umpires are out in the middle and so are the players of India as they take their positions on the field. Wesley Madhevere and Craig Ervine will open the inning for Zimbabwe and they will hope to get off to a good start. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been handed the new ball and will begin proceedings. Let's play...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, India will feel like they have enough firepower in their bowling department to defend this total against a batting lineup that has failed to click in this tournament. That said, Zimbabwe possess some serious batting talent in their ranks with the onus of this run chase falling on the shoulders of Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza. They need their openers to get them off to a good start though and with what we have witnessed in recent times, it would be folly to count the minnows out. Will Zimbabwe be able to pull off an upset? Or will India manage to win and top the group? We shall find out shortly.

KL Rahul is up for a chat and he says that he was confident coming into the tournament and says that he was batting well in the warm-up game as well. Adds that he did not doubt himself after the initial failures as in T20 cricket they have to take chances and the wickets were fresh as well. Mentions that the pitch is quite good and the ball is coming on the bat quite nicely and says that he enjoyed batting in the middle. Says that there is some pace on the wicket and adds that they have got a good total on the board.

India had a slow start to their inning losing their skipper Rohit Sharma early to a short ball from Blessing Muzarabani but Virat Kohli and KL Rahul put on a 60-run partnership to take their team to a good position at the halfway stage. Sean Williams broke the partnership after the refreshment break and the spinners helped Zimbabwe claw back into the game. Just as it seemed like India were losing control of the game having lost Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant in quick succession, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya decided to counterattack and go after the bowlers. They put on a 65-run partnership in 36 balls to take the initiative back in their team's favor. Surya Kumar reached his half-century and scored an unbeaten 61 in just 25 deliveries to continue his outstanding form. Sean Williams claimed two wickets with Sikandar Raza, Blessing Muzarabani, and Richard Ngarava picking one wicket each.

What an outstanding cricketer Suryakumar Yadav is and he has helped India score 79 runs in the last 5 overs to snatch the momentum right back in their favor!  His performance has pushed the total to 186 and India will be thrilled with the efforts of their hitters. Zimbabwe fought back in the middle overs but may find this a tough target to chase with the poor form of their batters. They would have hoped to restrict their opponents close to the 150-run mark after the flurry of wickets but will know that the game is not out of reach yet.

India will look to accelerate further after the break while Zimbabwe will be looking to break the partnership and initiate a collapse.

We are moments away from the start of the game now! Zimbabwe players are out there on the field and the Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul also make their way out to the middle now. Richard Ngarava to start the proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

Time for the national anthems! It will be India's first followed by the Zimbabwe national anthem. It is not a full house here in MCG but there are still more than 50,000 people in the ground. We saw Netherlands going the unthinkable in the first game of the day, Can Zimbabwe also pull off a victory to finish off their journey in style? Let's find out.

Craig Ervine, the skipper of Zimbabwe says that they were looking to bowl first as the ball might skid in the evening under lights. Informs that they have two changes with Wellington Masakadza and Tony Munyonga playing as they wanted to give Tony Munyonga a chance. Also adds that Luke Jongwe is injured and they have not explored their spin options in this competition so far, so they wanted to go with spin of Wellington Masakadza.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of India says that they will have a bat first. He mentions that it is what the team prefers to do and the decision has very little to do with the pitch. Feels that it is a good pitch and wants to put up a strong total on the board which the bowlers will be able to defend. Informs that they have one change as Dinesh Karthik makes way for Rishabh Pant who has not played any games including the warm-up games and they wanted to give him some game time before the semi-finals. Ends by saying that their qualification for the knockouts changes nothing as they still want to play well.

Zimbabwe (Playing XI) - Wesley Madhevere, Craig Ervine (C), Regis Chakabva, Sean Williams (WK), Sikandar Raza, Tony Munyonga (In place of Luke Jongwe), Ryan Burl, Wellington Masakadza (In place of Milton Shumba), Tendai Chatara, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani.

India (Playing XI) - KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma (C), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (WK) (In place of Dinesh Karthik), Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh.

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of India. They have elected to BAT first.

Pakistan have registered a comfortable victory against the Bangla Tigers and have now booked a place in the semi-final! What a turnaround this has been, they looked down and out of the competition at one stage but this is cricket and you can never count anyone out. South Africa also learned this lesson in quite an harsh way this morning. It has been a dramatic Super Sunday so far and let's hope that the drama continues in the final Super 12 game of what has been quite a fascinating World Cup.

Zimbabwe saw their first game of the Super 12 stage washed out against South Africa and a one-run win against Pakistan in the following game made them strong contenders for the semi-finals spot. However consecutive losses to Bangladesh and the Netherlands saw them miss out on the knockouts and will be playing for pride in their final outing. They have banked heavily on their bowlers in this tournament to win their games as most of their runs have been scored but their senior stalwarts Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza. They need a team effort if they are to beat a dangerous Indian side but they do not have the power to prevent their opponents from making it to the next stage of the competition. Will they achieve an unlikely victory and end their tournament on a high? Will India prove to be too strong for them? Or will it be the rain gods that have the final say? We will find out soon. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates.

India started the day at the top of the table and they need a win to cement the top spot on the table. They have had three close games so far, winning two against their Asian counterparts Pakistan and Bangladesh but losing to South Africa. Their comfortable win against the Netherlands has put them on six points and are looking to top the group with a victory. Their top four batters have all scored at least one half-century in this tournament but the openers have not been able to click at the same time which has resulted in them performing poorly in the Powerplay. Another area of concern for them is their death bowling as they have conceded far too many runs in the last few overs. A loss or a washed-out result condemns them to the second spot with Pakistan close to clinching a win over Bangladesh in Adelaide at the moment.

Hello and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen to our coverage from the Melbourne Cricket Ground for match number 30 of the Super 12 in the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup as we arrive at the last fixture of this stage before the semi-finals. India will take on Zimbabwe in the final game of the triple-header between teams in Group 2. This fixture is a dead rubber of sorts as India qualified and became the third semi-finalist the moment the Netherlands pulled off an outstanding win over South Africa who stumbled at the last hurdle. With the minnows slaying the giants of cricket several times in this competition, this game has all the excitement it needs to be a cracker.
