Commentary

That's all we have from this game which saw Zimbabwe getting eliminated and the Netherlands who were already out, claiming a comprehensive win. However, you do not need to go too far away as India and Bangladesh have arrived at the Adelaide Oval. The game begins at 1.30 pm IST (8.00 am GMT). Do switch tabs and get all the updates. Cheers!

Max O'Dowd has been adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his outstanding effort with the bat. He scored 52 runs in 47 deliveries which included 8 fours and one maximum.

The onus of this loss lies with the Zimbabwean batters who never got going and posted a poor total on the board. Barring Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza, none of the other players were able to get into double figures and that should be a real worry for the team as all the burden of scoring runs falls on their two stalwarts. The Dutch put on a complete bowling performance with all their fast bowlers among the wickets. Paul van Meekeren claimed three and Brandon Glover, Bas de Leede, and Logan van Beek chipped in with two each. Their effort restricted their opponents to under 120 and the batters completed the formality.

Zimbabwe picked up their performance towards the end of the game but had a very disappointing outing on the field. They have lost their opportunity of making it to the semi-finals and they will know their fate was in their own hands. They did get an early wicket with Blessing Muzarabani carrying forward his good form but they fell off and lacked discipline through the middle overs. In the end, Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani did end up with two wickets each with Luke Jongwe claiming one but their effort was in vain as they succumbed to a disappointing defeat.

The Netherlands got off to a shaky start as they lost Stephan Myburgh early but a 73-run partnership between Max O'Dowd and Tom Cooper set them up for an easy run chase. Max O'Dowd reached his half-century and looked like he would take his team home but he was dismissed and 4 wickets for 30 runs towards the end showed where their weakness lies. The target was no under-par and that allowed them to overcome the stutter and seal a comfortable win.

A flurry of wickets along with plenty of dots at the end for Zimbabwe and how they would have been hoping for this at the start of the inning! Despite the finish, this has been a walk in the park for the Netherlands as they have managed to win with five wickets in hand and with 2 overs to spare! They pick up their first win of the Super 12 stage and they will be really proud of their effort even so knowing that they are now responsible for eliminating Zimbabwe from this tournament.

Commentary

We are back for the chase. Zimbabwe players huddle out near the ropes. Max O'Dowd and Stephan Myburgh walk in with their blades for the Netherlands. Tendai Chatara comes to bowl. Here we go.

... The Run Chase ...

The conditions though are not that easy to bat on. Zimbabwe had struggled and so will the Netherlands. Which team will get over the line? To find out, do join us for the second essay in a short while.

Bas de Leede is in for a quick chat. He says it felts like the wicket was tough in the start and not as easy-paced as they expected but the bowlers did exceptionally well to restrict the opponents. Claims that he is happy that the injury was not serious. He credits the support staff who did all the tests and he is grateful to be able to play again. Ends by saying that with a small total they need one big partnership and two of their best can pull it off.

Netherlands were excellent with the ball. It was Paul van Meekeren who ran hovoc with the new ball and provided a great platform for the rest of his bowlers with his early wicket. He took three wickets. Logan van Beek, Bas de Leede and Brandon Glover took two each. They have managed to restrict Zimbabwe to a low total and now the onus is on their batters. They have their noses slightly ahead in this game at the inings break. They just need 118 to win this one.

The struggle continues with the blade for Zimbabwe. They started off on a bad note and lost three wickets inside the powerplay but the pair of Williams and Raza steadied the sinking ship. They played aggressively and were pouncing on anything loose. They lost Williams in the 12th over when a good partnership was brewing. Raza carried on but had an unlucky dismissal in the 15th over. He scored 40 off just 24 deliveries. If it wasn't for Raza, Zimbabwe would have been bowled out under a below-par total. Only two of the Zimbabwe batters managed to score in double digits!

19.2W

OUT! CAUGHT! The Zimbabwe inning has been wrapped up and they will be really disappointed with their effort! Blessing Muzarabani is the last batter to be dismissed and Zimbabwe have their work cut out. Logan van Beek bangs this in short and wide outside off, Blessing Muzarabani looks to cut this but only manages to top edge this high into the sky. Brandon Glover is well-placed at backward point and he takes a comfortable catch to his teammates' delight. The Netherlands will be pumped with their effort in the field and will be confident of chasing this target.

19.11

Logan van Beek bowls a slower delivery on a good length and outside off, Tendai Chatara taps this towards short third man and takes a quick single.

The ball flies high into the air and into the palms of Logan van Beek at mid-wicket. Zimbabwe are now eight down and staring down a barrel.

The Zimbabwe pace bowlers have lacked penetration and they have resorted to spin options to try and restrict the scoring. They will be desperate to claim a few early wickets after the break while the Dutch will want to keep this partnership between Max O'Dowd and Tom Cooper going.

We are all set for the game to begin after the pre-match formalities as the umpires make their way out to the pitch. The players of the Netherlands form a huddle before taking their respective positions in the field as Wesley Madhevere and Craig Ervine stride onto the ground to open the innings for Zimbabwe. They will be looking to get their team off to a good start in this game and set a platform for their team. Fred Klaassen has been handed the new ball and he will begin proceedings. Let's play...

We are moments away from the start of the game but before that the umpires and players have lined up in the middle for the national anthems. It will be the national anthem of the Netherlands first followed by Zimbabwe's national anthem.

PITCH REPORT - Mpumelelo Mbangwa is pitchside and he says that the weather is wonderful and mentions that the ground is a perfect oval. Adds that the square boundaries are short whereas the straight boundaries are much longer. He is joined by Dirk Nannes who informs that the Adelaide pitch is hairy as it has a lot of grass. Claims that it is a very firm pitch therefore the grass should not be a worry as the ground is hard. Ends by saying that batting first or chasing, both should not be an issue.

Scott Edwards the skipper of the Netherlands says that they were going to bowl anyways. Adds that the wickets were under covers so they would hope to restrict their opponents to a small total. Ends by saying that they still have two games to go and they are looking to win this one.

Craig Ervine the skipper of Zimbabwe says that they are looking to bat first as it is sunny and the pitch may not change much. Adds that they are looking to put a decent score on the board and defend it. Admits that the start has been an issue for them and they have been losing a cluster of wickets. Mentions that they want to access the new conditions at a new venue and not lose too many wickets. Informs that they have one change as Brad Evans has picked up a slight niggle.

Netherlands (Playing XI) - Max O'Dowd, Stephan Myburgh, Tom Cooper, Colin Ackermann, Bas de Leede, Scott Edwards (C/WK), Roelof van der Merwe, Logan van Beek (In for Tim Pringle), Fred Klaassen, Paul van Meekeren, Brandon Glover.

Zimbabwe (Playing XI) - Wesley Madhevere, Craig Ervine (C), Milton Shumba, Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Regis Chakabva (WK), Ryan Burl, Luke Jongwe (In for Brad Evans), Tendai Chatara, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani.

TOSS - The coin lands in favor of Zimbabwe. They will BAT first.

Scott Edwards' team will be trying for a comeback in this game. The Netherlands never appeared to be in a good position in any of their previous matches. They came close to a win over Bangladesh in their first game but were completely outplayed in their subsequent matches against India and Pakistan. The only positive for the Netherlands was the 4 wickets they bagged against Pakistan while defending a low total. The batting order has the tendency to collapse from decent positions but this game will be a great opportunity for them to register their first win in the Super 12 stage. Which team will be more motivated to come out on top? Let's find out soon. Stay tuned for the toss and team updates.
