Commentary

Right then, that wraps up the ODI series. Zimbabwe did spring a surprise in the first game, but Pakistan showed their class in the next two matches to clinch the series victory. Mohammad Rizwan collects the trophy and hands it over to the younger players in the squad. It's all smiles in the Pakistan camp as they celebrate the series win. Both teams now shift their focus to the T20I format, with the first T20I scheduled for Sunday, 1st December. All three T20Is of the series will be played here in Bulawayo at the Queens Sports Club. The first ball will be bowled at 11 am GMT, but as always, you can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!

The captain of Pakistan, Mohammad Rizwan says that he feels proud of the team for winning the series. Adds that he was a little bit disappointed after the loss in the first game. Mentions that there are many expectations of fans and he is happy that he can live up to them. States that with the rain being a factor, he started with spinners in an attempt to reach the 20-over mark quickly. Feels that this is probably first time that Pakistan bowled 20 overs in an hour.

Zimbabwean captain, Craig Ervine reflects on his team's struggles in the series, emphasizing that losing early wickets at the top of the order has been a consistent issue. He notes that the inability to build partnerships has kept them on the back foot, despite staying on par with the required run rate. Ervine stresses the importance of laying a solid foundation for the middle and lower order, which has been missing throughout the series. Highlighting the bright side, he praises the young players for showcasing their talents. Mentions that after a short break, he will prepare for the Afghanistan series.

Saim Ayub is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for scoring 155 runs and picking 3 wickets in the series. He says that the pitch was similar to the last game and good to bat on. Adds that his strategy was to see the ball and hit the ball. Mentions that he really enjoyed contributing to the team’s win. Concludes that he feels good having won the series. Tells that as a team, they try to stay in the present and enjoy each other's company.

Kamran Ghulam is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his superb century, the first of his ODI career. He also contributed with the ball, taking a wicket.

Time for the presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. Kamran Ghulam, with his maiden ODI century, was the cornerstone of Pakistan's total of 303 while others batted around him. After reaching his fifty, he shifted gears brilliantly, accelerating from 50 to 100 in just 37 balls with ease. Despite doing all the hard work in the middle overs to keep the batters quiet, Zimbabwe lost the plot at the death, conceding 102 runs in the final 10 overs. For Zimbabwe, Sikandar Raza stood out with the ball with figures of 2 for 47 from his 10 overs.

As for Pakistan, Saim Ayub struck early, taking a couple of wickets in his opening spell, with good support from Abrar Ahmed during the first Powerplay. Then, the pace duo of Aamer Jamal and Haris Rauf took over, dismissing the experienced Zimbabwean trio of Sean Williams, Craig Ervine, and Sikandar Raza. It was followed by a clean-up job as the spinners returned to finish off the innings. On the partnership front, from a batting perspective, Pakistan had three fifty-plus stands, with the highest being 89. Zimbabwe needed something similar to have a better chance in the chase.

In their pursuit of a stiff target, Zimbabwe faced a trial by spin in the first 13 overs. They lost their top order inside the first Powerplay, but despite the setbacks, the hosts managed to keep the required rate under control. The trend continued throughout the innings, with the scoreboard ticking along nicely, but Zimbabwe kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They managed to build four promising partnerships, but the highest among them was just 41 runs. When chasing a big total, substantial partnerships and batters converting starts into significant scores are crucial, and Zimbabwe fell short in that regard.

An emphatic win for Pakistan to clinch the series! It marks their second straight come-from-behind series win in the format with the previous one coming against Australia recently. As for Zimbabwe, while every batter showed intent by playing their shots, they fell in the process, with none willing to bide their time, even after losing three wickets in the first Powerplay. Additionally, they conceded too many runs in the final 10 overs, and the target of 304 proved to be a mountain too steep to climb.

OUT! LBW! That's it! The series goes to Pakistan! Haris Rauf runs in hard from over the wicket angle and bowls the ball on a good length on the off stump. The ball does not bounce much and nips back in as it rushes onto the front pad of Clive Madande who fails to get his bat in the line of the ball. He gets trapped right in front of the middle stump. The umpire has no hesitation in raising the finger. Pakistan win the game by 99 runs!

Blessing Muzarabani is the last man in.

Commentary

Welcome back for Zimbabwe's reply. Mohammad Rizwan has the helmet on as he makes his way out to the middle along with the rest of the Pakistan players, so, we could see spin from the first over. Indeed, the tourists are starting with spin in the form of Saim Ayub. It will be Joylord Gumbie and Tadiwanashe Marumani to open the innings for Zimbabwe. Let's play...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

With 304 runs needed to create history and win their first series against Pakistan, Zimbabwe face a monumental task. Will their batters rise to the occasion, or will Pakistan’s bowlers defend the target and seal the series? An intriguing chase awaits in the second innings. Stay tuned for all the action!

For Zimbabwe, the bowlers had a mixed outing. They maintained discipline in the middle phase but lost control at the death where Pakistan capitalized. Sikandar Raza and Richard Ngarava were the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 wickets each, while Blessing Muzarabani and Faraz Akram chipped in with one apiece. Despite their efforts, the death overs proved costly, allowing Pakistan to build a challenging total. It became tougher for the bowlers towards the end as Pakistan managed to score 69 runs in the last 5 overs.

The openers, Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub provided a steady start with a solid 58-run stand. Saim departed after a well-made 31, but Shafique carried on to register a crucial half-century, scoring 50 runs to anchor the innings early on. It was, however, Kamran Ghulam who stole the show, smashing a sensational 103 off 99 balls, featuring 10 fours and 4 sixes. His knock was a masterclass in timing and power, as he kept the scoreboard ticking and launched Pakistan into a commanding position. Contributions from skipper Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha added valuable runs in the middle overs. While both looked set for bigger scores, they fell at pivotal moments, missing the chance to capitalize further. Tayyab Tahir’s unbeaten 29 in the final overs provided the finishing touch, ensuring Pakistan crossed the 300-run mark.

The first innings of this series-deciding match has come to an end, with Pakistan putting up an impressive 303/6 in their 50 overs. After winning the toss and opting to bat on a pitch that favored the batters, Pakistan’s innings was highlighted by a brilliant maiden ODI century from Kamran Ghulam.

Oh, no, Richard has overstepped. Free Hit to follow now.

WIDE! Fuller and slower, way outside off, left alone by Tahir.

48.51lb

Another slower delivery, on a nagging length, at the body of the batter, Jamal swings across the line but fails to connect. He gets called through for a quick single by Tahir. Blessing Muzarabani runs in on his follow through to get to the ball but as he bends, Tahir goes past him and that seems to put Blessing off. No appeal for obstructing the field though as Tahir was running in a straight line and did not change direction.

Aamer Jamal comes out to bat now for Pakistan.

OUT! TAKEN! The slower ball does the trick for Blessing Muzarabani! Angled in, on a length, following the batter, Irfan backs away to launch it down the ground. He gets done by the slowness of the delivery. Fails to get any power on it and hits it flat towards long on where Sean Williams runs in off the ropes and slides to take the catch.

48.30

Slower one, on a length, outside off, Irfan swings way too early and connects with thin air.

48.22

On a length, on middle, Irfan swipes it to the right of deep backward squar leg for a couple of runs.

The last writes are being written in this decider, and it has turned into a one-sided affair. Zimbabwe showed fight with the bat, but their batters' inability to convert starts and the lack of substantial partnerships have hurt them. Ngarava is fine to resume. All set to go then!

OUT! LBW! A loud appeal, and the finger goes up! It’s a rather innocuous delivery, but Abrar Ahmed will gladly take it! A half-tracker on middle and leg from around the wicket, Marumani goes deep in his crease and tries to pull it finer than he should have. Playing it in front of square would have been a better option. The ball arrives slower than expected, and Marumani is through his shot too early. It strikes the back leg, and although it seemed to be heading down leg, the umpire thought otherwise.

Not a wicket-taking delivery by any means, way too short, on off, there to be put away, Marumani presses on the back foot and pulls it flat and low towards mid-wicket where Tayyab Tahir reacts quickly and dives forward to take it inches off the turf. Marumani is asked to wait by the umpires as the catch is referred upstairs. The third umpire looks at a couple of angles and concludes that Tahir had his fingers clearly underneath the ball.

Is that out? Joylord Gumbie hits the ball straight but low towards mid-wicket and the fielder takes the catch very close to the ground. The umpires refer it upstairs to check if it's a clean catch and the third umpire is satisfied that Tahir has his fingers underneath the ball.

All in readiness to get going in the series decider. Bright blue skies and sunshine welcome the two umpires as they stride out to the middle. Craig Ervine and his men break from their huddle and take their respective positions on the field. It will be the left-hand right-hand combination of Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique to open the innings for Pakistan. Zimbabwe are starting with spin in the form of Sikandar Raza. A slip in place. Here we go!

PITCH REPORT - Aamir Sohail is near the deck. He says that there is a nice breeze blowing across the ground. Feels that the rain will stay away. Tells that this was the same pitch which was used in the last game. Shares that it has been sunny over the last couple of days and therefore, he reckons that there will not be much moisture in the deck. Feels that finger spinners will get some purchase because the surface is on the drier side. Ends by saying that batters will need to be smart and need to have a method in going about their business.

Sean Williams is up for a chat. He talks about the preparations being on point for the team for this series and the lads have the belief to win the series. He further adds that he makes time for ice baths and cold water therapy which helps him stay focused and is a very good way for him to relax after games. He talks about his batting average being right up there with some of the best players in the world and he feels proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with them.

Pakistan (Unchanged Playing XI) - Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Rizwan (C/WK), Tayyab Tahir, Salman Agha, Irfan Khan, Aamer Jamal, Haris Rauf, Faisal Akram, Abrar Ahmed.

Zimbabwe (Playing XI) - Tadiwanashe Marumani, Joylord Gumbie (WK), Dion Myers, Craig Ervine (C), Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, Brian Bennett, Clive Madande (In for Brandon Mavuta), Faraz Akram (In for Trevor Gwandu), Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani.

Craig Ervine, the captain of Zimbabwe says that they anyway wanted to bowl first. Adds that it has been hard to read the conditions and feels that the wicket will not change much. Tells that they want to put it all together and play well. Mentions that they haven’t beaten Pakistan in an ODI series and this is an exciting opportunity for them to create history. Informs that they have two changes with Clive Madande coming in for Brandon Mavuta and Faraz Akram comes in for Trevor Gwandu.

The captain of Pakistan, Mohammad Rizwan says that they are looking to bat first as the same wicket was used in the last game and feels that batting fourth on this wicket will not be easy. He further adds that they have given 5 new faces chances in this series and they are going with the same team, giving the guys another chance to perform for the country.

TOSS - Pakistan have won the flip of the coin and they will BAT first.

After the hosts triumphed in a rain-affected series opener, Pakistan hit back with a dominant performance in the second game and now have momentum on their side. Can they capitalize on that momentum and clinch the series, or will Zimbabwe step up to the challenge and secure a rare series victory against the Asian side? Stay tuned as we bring you the toss and team updates.

Zimbabwe have a relatively inexperienced top order, but players like Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza, and their captain, Craig Ervine, are the key figures in the middle order. Each of them has played more than 100 ODIs and will be eager to score big in this finale to bring the trophy home. In the bowling department, Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava bring the experience and pace needed to trouble the Pakistani batters. Notably, Ngarava has also proven that he is no mug with the bat, showcasing his skills through a crucial knock of 48 in the first match.

For Pakistan, all eyes will be on Saim Ayub, who smashed a quick century in the last match and has been in the form of his life, carrying momentum from the Australia series. His opening partner, Abdullah Shafique, is equally vital, coming off a steady, unbeaten knock in the second game. In the middle order, captain Mohammad Rizwan will look to anchor the innings and deliver a captain's knock that he's long overdue. Haris Rauf, Pakistan's pace spearhead, will be expected to make a mark and he will be hoping for support from Aamer Jamal and Abrar Ahmed.

Hello, folks, we have arrived at the decider of this exciting series. With the series tied 1-1, the third and final ODI between Pakistan and Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo is upon us. The stage is set, though the weather could play spoilsport, as it did in the opening game, but we hope to get a full match for this decider.

... MATCH DAY ...

With the Champions Trophy 2025 on the horizon, teams are gearing up for ODI cricket’s ultimate stage. Here, the spotlight falls on the final showdown between Zimbabwe and Pakistan, with the series tied 1-1. Stakes couldn’t be higher as both teams fight for pride and momentum in this thrilling decider. Pakistan, the probable hosts of the Champions Trophy, arrive on the back of a morale-boosting 2-1 series win against Australia. But it hasn’t been all smooth sailing here. A rain-hit opening game saw them stumble to a disappointing defeat. However, the Men in Green roared back in style with a stunning 10-wicket victory in the second match. Saim Ayub’s scintillating century in that chase has infused fresh confidence into the side, especially after their batting collapse in the opener. With Babar Azam rested, skipper Mohammad Rizwan shoulders the responsibility of guiding the young guns. Abdullah Shafique, Tayyab Tahir, and Kamran Ghulam have shown promise, but it’s time to translate potential into performance. All-rounder Aamer Jamal remains a key player, contributing with both bat and ball, while spinners Abrar Ahmed and Salman Agha have emerged as game-changers in this series. Can Haris Rauf and the bowling unit deliver the knockout punch? Zimbabwe, on the other hand, have had a mixed campaign. After a resounding win in the first ODI, they were blown away in the second. Their batting remains a concern, overly reliant on Sean Williams, Craig Ervine, and the ever-reliable Sikandar Raza. The top order, featuring Dion Myers, Joylord Gumbie, and Tadiwanashe Marumani, must step up if they are to challenge Pakistan’s bowlers. Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava form a potent pace duo capable of rattling even the best. Brian Bennett’s quick-fire cameos could prove decisive, but the X-factor remains Raza. Zimbabwe's fortunes often mirror his performances, and they’ll need his magic to upset the odds. It all boils down to this. Can Zimbabwe script a fairytale ending? Or will Pakistan assert their dominance to seal the series? A high-stakes thriller awaits - brace yourself for an unforgettable finale!
