Commentary

That is all from this game. Pakistan go 1-0 up but Zimbabwe have a chance to square things up. These two will meet again on the 3rd of this month at 11 am GMT. Join us earlier for the build up. Cheers!

Salman Agha says it was a complete performance and he is very happy. Tells they planned according to the conditions, it was not easy to play the new ball but the players did well to score runs. Shares the youngsters are making an impact and hopes they do it in the next game as well.

Tayyab Tahir is the Player of the Match. He says it was difficult to hit the old ball but he made the plan to play the whole over, they tried to run if boundaries were difficult.

Sikandar Raza says the momentum shifted when they leaked 40 odd runs in the last few overs. Adds they need to train smartly and to upskill themselves, the individuals need to put their hands up and learn from this game. Shares they'll debrief tomorrow and hope they bounce back well. Mentions there's some discomfort in his leg.

...Presentation...

A complete performance from Pakistan's point of view. They'll be really happy with how they performed. They had an inexperienced squad but the likes of Usman Khan, Tayyab Tahir and Irfan Khan took the opportunity with the bat. It was a collective batting performance while the spin duo, Sufiyan Muqeem and Abrar Ahmed spun the web around Zimbabwe as they picked six wickets overall. Haris Rauf was excellent as well, as he scalped two wickets. Zimbabwe on the other hand dropped a couple of catches at crucial stages and lost wickets at pivotal events. They'll hope for a better performance in the second game.

A wonderful bowling performance from Pakistan and they go 1-0 up in the series. Honestly, anything above 150 would be hard for Zimbabwe but they tried hard. They lost two wickets inside the Powerplay but scored more than 50 in the process. Raza and Tadiwanashe Marumani build a good partnership but an unfortunate run out to the latter saw a quick collapse in the batting order. Raza held the key but pulled his hamstring while batting and was not at his best after that. Once Raza was dismissed it was all over for Zimbabwe.

Commentary

Back for the chase. The players are out in the middle. Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani to open for Zimbabwe. Abrar Ahmed to bowl first. Let's play..

…THE RUN CHASE…

Zimbabwe were decent with the ball till the 15th over but leaked runs in plenty during the last five which shifted the momentum towards Pakistan. Sikandar Raza, Ryan Burl, Wellington Masakadza, and Richard Ngarava snapped a wicket each with Raza being economical of the lot. Zimbabwe needs 166 to start the series with a win. Can they do it on a slowish track or will the Pakistan bowlers come hard at them and defend this score? We shall find out soon. Join us in a bit for the second essay.

A solid finish from Pakistan helps them get to a competitive score of 165/4 from their 20 overs. Opting to bat first, the top-order players got decent starts but failed to carry on. Usman Khan made a handy 39 batting at three while the skipper Salman Agha struggled through the middle phase. At 100/4 in the 15th over, Tayyab Tahir and Irfan Khan joined hands and added a quick fire 65 runs off just 34 balls to take their side over the 160-run mark.

The teams and match officials make their way to the ground for the National Anthems. We start with the anthem of Pakistan, followed by that of the home side, Zimbabwe. Live action is coming shortly.

Dion Myers is up for a chat. He says that not much changes for them in terms of preparation. Adds that they have done a lot of hard work in the last 4-5 months and need to back themselves. Mentions that they are not thinking much about the opposition, but want to go with an attacking mindset. Ends by adding that they have been playing a similar side for the past few months and the group is pretty confident.

Pitch Report: Ed Rainsford is at the pitch side along with Aamer Sohail and Tino Mawoyo. They say that the weather is clear, bright, and sunny. 78 meters straight while 66 meters in the square side boundaries. They feel that it's a perfect batting pitching with a couple of dry areas and 180 would be a good total on this wicket.

Sikandar Raza, the Zimbabwe skipper says that they don't mind batting or bowling first. Adds that it looks like a good wicket but they would have batted first as well. Shares that they have made a few plans on how the wicket would play and work on different methods. Ends by sharing that they have Wellington Masakadza and Ryan Burl back for this series.

Agha Salman, the Pakistan skipper wins the toss and will bat first. He says that they want to put a good total on the board. Adds that the wicket could get slower in the second innings. Shares that they want to win the series and also try a few youngsters in the squad. Mentions that they want to improve their fielding, and bowl well with the new ball, and ends by adding that they are happy with their batting.

Zimbabwe (Playing XI) - Tadiwanashe Marumani(WK), Brian Bennett, Dion Myers, Sikandar Raza(C), Ryan Burl, Clive Madande, Tashinga Musekiwa, Wellington Masakadza, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Trevor Gwandu.

Toss Update - Pakistan have won the toss and opted to BAT.

On the flip side, Pakistan are coming off the ODI series win and will hope for a similar result in the shortest format of the game. Pakistan last played a T20I against Australia and were clean swept in the three-match series against the Men in Yellow. With their regular skipper, Mohammad Rizwan rested for the T20Is, Salman Agha will step into the leadership role with a young side at his disposal. Sahibzada Farhan, Arafat Minhas, Qasim Akram, Jahandad Khan, and Sufiyan Muqeem are some fresh faces to keep an eye on for the visiting side. So, which side are you backing to take the early lead in the series? We shall find out soon. Toss and team news coming up shortly. Stay tuned.

Hello and welcome to our coverage of the first T20I in the three-match series between Zimbabwe and Pakistan from the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. After losing the ODI series, the home side will hope to put in a better show in the T20Is. Sikandar Raza will lead the side that has the experience of Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, and Ryan Burl while the new faces in Brian Bennett, Wessly Madhevere, and Trevor Gwandu will be expected to step up and play a pivotal role for their side. Zimbabwe last played T20Is against India in July where they lost the series 1-4 but with some new additions to their side, the African nation will want to put in a better performance and start the series on a high.

…MATCHDAY…

Welcome, one and all, for a thrilling installment of the Pakistan in Zimbabwe, 3 T20I Series, 2024. We're live from the prestigious Bulawayo Athletic Club in Bulawayo, where Zimbabwe and Pakistan are set to lock horns.
