Right then, with three days still to play, India find themselves firmly in the driver’s seat and their objective will be to effectively bat Australia out of the contest. Conditions on Day 3 are expected to feature slightly higher temperatures compared to Day 2, which could bake the pitch further. As the day progresses, the visible cracks might widen, making batting increasingly challenging. Australia will be mindful of the fact that in recent Tests, India have been prone to collapses. They will believe that if they can break this stand early, they can build on it and claw their way back into the game. An exciting day lies ahead, with the first ball on Day 3 set for 2.20 am GMT but as always our build-up will begin much earlier. See you then. Cheers!

Chances were few and far between, but Australia did manage to create a couple of opportunities. One came in the form of a tough catch of Jaiswal, which was put down by Usman Khawaja. On the very next ball, a potential run-out chance was missed, as a wayward throw from Steven Smith failed to find Rahul in trouble. These moments of missed chances were pivotal, and as the day wore on, India capitalized on them to end the day with a lead of 218 runs. To be fair, Pat Cummins and Co. could consider themselves unlucky, as they tried everything and managed to beat the bat on quite a few occasions, but the breakthrough eluded them.

Starc and Hazlewood’s resilience raised questions about whether the softer, older ball or an easing pitch was making batting more manageable. The answer came soon enough as Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul took to the crease. They handled the new ball with relative comfort, facing far less lateral movement than what was evident on the first morning. As the scoreboard reflects, sessions 2 and 3 were bossed by India, with the Australian bowlers struggling to make inroads.

Australia began the day trailing by 83 runs with three wickets in hand, relying on Alex Carey to narrow the deficit. However, Jasprit Bumrah struck with his first ball, dismissing Carey and completing his 11th Test five-wicket haul. India seemed set to wrap things up quickly, but Mitchell Starc showed remarkable grit, facing 112 balls. He and Josh Hazlewood formed the innings’ highest partnership, adding 25 runs and frustrating the bowlers. The visitors eventually broke through, taking a 46-run lead.

Well, what a stark contrast from the drama of Day 1! The second day unfolded with much more serenity, but at the end of it, India have firmly kept their grip on the Test. Few would have anticipated such a turnaround after the chaos of the opening day, where 17 wickets tumbled on a lively, green surface. In comparison, only three wickets fell on Day 2, as the pitch began to show signs of easing out, making batting a relatively more manageable task.

54.50

Tough leave! Cummins bangs it short, angles it in just outside off, Yashasvi Jaiswal opens his body and just about keeps his bat away from the line of the ball.

Another halt in play as Yashasvi Jaiswal seems to be experiencing some discomfort in his right forearm again. More pickle juice for Jaiswal followed by a massage from the physio. Jaiswal puts the helmet back on and we are all good to go now.

Commentary

Welcome back for the post-Lunch session. Pat Cummins leads his troops out to the centre. It will be the left-hand right-hand combination of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul to open the innings for India. Mitchell Starc has the red cherry in hand and he is raring to go. Three slips and a gully await. Away we go...

... DAY 2, SESSION 2 ...

A lead of 46 runs may not seem massive in most Test matches, but on this challenging surface, it could prove invaluable. While Australia will be disappointed with their batting collapse, they know the game is far from over. The hosts will take heart from India's recent batting struggles, compounded by the inexperience in their lineup. With confidence low among the Indian batters, the Australian bowlers will be itching to exploit the conditions and claw their way back into the contest. With that said, join us at 5 am GMT for the post-Lunch session. Stay tuned.

So, the question now remains, has the pitch gotten better to bat on? Australia's impressive second-hour performance and successful reduction of the deficit, especially through the last-wicket stand, suggests more manageable batting conditions. While India might be frustrated by their inability to wrap up the innings quickly, they'll likely view the seemingly easier conditions as the ball got older as a positive sign for their own batting to come.

Earlier into the innings, Australia were rocked early with the Indian seamers running through the top order. Bumrah was the destructor in chief as he removed Khawaja, McSweeney, and Smith in quick intervals. Marnus Labuschagne scratched his first run after 24 deliveries but could only add a couple of runs. With trouble looming large, Australia desperately needed someone to sail their ship out of turbulent waters, but the Indian pacers just didn't give them any respite and utilized the conditions nicely. With Starc being the highest scorer for Aussies, it was Jasprit Bumrah who claimed his 11th five-wicket haul in Test career and was ably supported by Harshit Rana and Mohammed Siraj who shared the remaining five among them.

However, the final Australian pair of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood showed gritty resistance, much to India's frustration. Their stubborn partnership grew steadily, with each run adding to the bowling side's anxiety. A dropped catch by Pant off Hazlewood's batting only added to India's growing concerns. Starc, in particular, displayed a good composure, handling the pace attack with efficiency. There were innumerable plays and misses with the ball flirting past the outside edge off Bumrah's bowling, but Starc looked a bit more comfortable against the others and truly maintained his ground for 112 deliveries, scoring a handy 26 runs, and was also the highest run scorer for the hosts. Hazlewood, too, showed a bit of resistance and the two added 25 runs together, battling it out for 110 deliveries.

Harshit Rana and Jasprit Bumrah began the day for India by constantly bashing those hard lengths and asking all the tough questions to the opposition batters. There was good carry and bounce which tested the batters' temperament. Bumrah made an immediate impact, claiming Alex Carey's wicket with a brilliant delivery in his very first over of the day. Carey, typically known for shepherding the tail effectively, couldn't extend his stay at the crease. Rana soon followed suit with a wicket of his own, leaving Australia in a precarious position and still trailing significantly.

Another immersive session of play has flown by in this West Test and we have seen it all - bowling brilliance in the first hour and a remarkable batting resilience in the next. But, ultimately it will be the tourists who will be the happier side of the two walking off for the Lunch break. They have prevented Australia from taking the lead and have an invaluable lead of 46 runs to build upon.

51.2W

OUT! IN THE AIR...RISHABH PANT TAKES IT THIS TIME! Harshit Rana finally ends this frustrating 10th-wicket partnership and claims his third wicket. Rana steams in from around the stumps and hones in a fractionally fuller-length delivery, attacking the stumps. Mitchell Starc gets his front foot out of the way and creates room for himself. Goes for a big heave across but only manages to get a top edge. Skies it behind the wickets and swirls over the slip cordon. Virat Kohli prepares himself for the catch but it is Rishabh Pant who calls for his catch, locks his eyes on the ball, settles under it and takes it safely. India have bowled Australia out for 104 to gain a handy lead of 46 runs!

51.11

Rana bowls a half-volley, on off, Josh Hazlewood drives it nicely along the ground through covers for a single.

Quick drinks for the two batters. And also, a change in bowling. Harshit Rana replaces Washington Sundar.

Commentary

Welcome back for the final session of Day 1! The umpires and Indian players have already taken their positions. Out walk the Aussie opening pair - Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney. Jasprit Bumrah has the new ball and is raring to go. Here we go...

... SECOND INNINGS ...

Well then, with the Indian innings drawing to a close, TEA has been taken. Australia will come out to bat after the break and they have a huge opportunity to replicate the same dominance with the bat. They know that the Indian pace attack is a bit inexperienced comparatively and with Jadeja and Ashwin absent as well, it will be a steep hill for the tourists to climb from here. It will require a miraculous bowling display from India against this experienced Aussie batting unit. Stay tuned, as we will be back with the Australian innings, right after a few minutes from now.

Losing on the momentum built by Pant and Reddy, India's vulnerability was exposed yet again with another monumental collapse with India slipping down from 128/7 to 150 all out. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood was the most successful bowler as he never let the Indian batters get off the blocks and snagged a spectacular 4-fer with Starc, Cummins, and Marsh all chipping in with a couple of wickets each. All ten wickets were shared by the Aussie pace quartet that troubled the Indians right, left and centre. For India, Nitish Kumar Reddy was the highest run scorer and did really well for his brisk 41.

With Lyon struggling to find his rhythm and Pant taking the attack against him, Cummins smartly moved back to an all-pace attack. Reddy, in particular, impressed with his defensive technique and struck a few boundaries too. Just as Pant was threatening to convert his start into something substantial, Cummins struck, snuffing out the dangerous left-hander, and also redeeming himself from a dropped catch earlier.

The Australian camp opened with Mitchell Marsh joining the bowling attack, as Cummins maintained his aggressive all-pace strategy to build on the morning dominance. The tactic paid off when 'The Bison' struck twice in quick intervals, which left India reeling with half their side back in the sheds on a very sorry-looking score. The tide, however, began to slightly turn as conditions eased, with Pant finally finding his groove. He and Reddy crafted a gutsy partnership, mixing solid defense with bold strokeplay.

In an attempt to weather the storm, Pant and Jurel resumed their innings for India. Despite the second session usually favoring batters, they approached the ruthless Australian pacers with caution. Jurel showed early promise with some confident boundaries, but his innings was cut short by a catch in the slips. Pant struggled to find his rhythm, reflecting the overall uncertainty plaguing the Indian batting lineup.

India's innings never found its feet, with familiar top-order frailties coming back to haunt them. While KL Rahul fought a lone battle trying to hold the top order, wickets tumbled at the other end. Even the usually reliable Kohli couldn't weather the storm, and his early departure heaped even more pressure on an already strained and inexperienced lower middle order. India were badly reduced to a paltry 59/5 with the hosts bossing up the first session.

A pure action-packed phase of play as compared to the morning session. It had everything - Aussie pace dominance at full tilt, a resilient Pant-Nitish stand and in between and then the pacers squeezing back in to close in the session bundling India out. This post-Lunch session has moved this inaugural Test at a rapid pace courtesy of the Aussie pace battery being threateningly dangerous and doing the basic things correctly.

49.4W

OUT! CAUGHT! Well, that's one way to make up for the earlier dropped catch. Pat Cummins hurls in yet another short-pitched delivery and angles it in from around middle. Nitish Kumar Reddy hangs back and looks to take it on but the ball gets big on him and the pull is miscued over the mid-wicket region. Usman Khawaja runs back and puts in a big slide to grab a fine catch and Reddy's fine debut knock comes to an end on 41. Cummins finishes with a couple of wickets as well and India are bundled out for 150.

49.34

FOUR! That's been smashed back by Nitish Kumar Reddy and Pat Cummins will feel that's adding insult to injury. Hard length around off, Reddy backs away and flat-bats it to the right of mid off for a boundary. The 150 also comes up for India.

49.20

DROPPED! Too casual from Usman Khawaja and he simply lost the ball in the sun there, school-boy error. A much better-directed short ball from Pat Cummins and angles it in at the bodyline. Nitish Kumar Reddy miscues it badly and the ball lobs up in front of mid-wicket where Khawaja struts ahead and spills the reverse-cup attempt.

49.12

Back of a length angled back into the batter, Nitish Kumar Reddy makes room and punches it towards the big gap at deep cover for a couple of runs.

Mohammed Siraj is the last batter in for India. And with just one wicket to spare, this afternoon session has been extended for extra 30 minutes or so.

Bumrah keeps hanging back and looks to drive away from the body and ends up nicking it behind to the keeper. Alex Carey dives to his right and gobbles it up as Australia are now a wicket away from bundling out India.

48.50

Fuller in length and attacking the off stump line, Jasprit Bumrah blocks it off.

48.40

SIX! Right off the top edge but carries all the way! Short ball over middle, Jasprit Bumrah hangs back looking to pull but gets in an awkward position and gets a top edge that flies right over the keeper's head and clears the ropes for a second biggie in the space of two overs.

48.21

Bumrah seems to have gained the trust of Reddy as he does rotate the strike early in the over. Good length, attacking the top of off, Reddy nudges it off the inner half of the blade through the gap at mid-wicket and picks up a single.

47.51

Reddy was reluctant there but Bumrah does get the single he wanted. Full and outside off, looking to slide one back in, Bumrah gets nicely forward and pushes it towards cover for a quick single.

47.41

That jumped off the deck! Banged in a bit shorter around off, Reddy tries to get inside the line but ends up fending it awkwardly off the hips down to fine leg for a single.

OUT! CAUGHT! How has he pulled that one off? Marnus Labuschagne with a peach of a catch and what an assist from Nathan McSweeney as well, unbelievable. Josh Hazlewood bowls it just back of a length and keeps the line around off, just nibbling away as well. Harshit Rana stays back and jars at it with hard hands, edging it down in between second and third slip. It is McSweeney who springs down to his left and the ball pops out of the palm but Labuschagne shows impeccable reactions to sweep in and stick out his right hand to complete the catch. India 128/8 and in dire straits as the Hoff has three wickets.

Given that the pitch has dried up with no movement whatsoever, things have eased up a bit from the batters' perspective. Australian bowlers have sweated hard for that breakthrough but haven't got one as yet. Josh Hazlewood of all, has looked the most threatening and close to snagging one as he just hasn't given away anything off his ten overs. Welcome back for the final session. The umpires and players are punctual and the Australian fielders take their positions. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul to resume their innings for India. And it will be Pat Cummins to kick off the final session with the ball. Here we go...

... DAY 2, SESSION 3 ...

Did the movement just die off the pitch or did the batters apply themselves well? Can say, both, for now, at least. The sudden metamorphosis in the conditions has been striking - from yesterday's seam-bowling haven to today's more balanced surface with the ball not seaming much. The opening pair's unbroken partnership has steadily expanded India's lead to 130 runs, presenting a stark contrast to the clatter of wickets witnessed on day one. With the final session left in Day 2, can Australia turn around its fortunes and strike a roaring comeback? Or will India manage to get a comfortable lead? Join us for the post-Tea session which starts at 7.20 am GMT. Stay tuned.

This shift in conditions was first hinted at during Australia's stubborn last-wicket partnership, and the trend has continued with India's openers showing remarkable resilience. For India, Yashasvi Jaiswal who perished on a duck, redeemed himself with a solid unbeaten knock while KL Rahul carried on the momentum in the second innings as well. Australia also utilized Nathan Lyon, but there was no turn whatsoever and Labuschange was also used towards the end of the session but they didn't get much assistance as the pitch eased out with the progression.

With the pitch easing up a bit to bat on, the Indian openers began on a positive note. KL Rahul and Jaiswal both effectively rotated the strike and kept the scorecard ticking. Although there was some lateral movement on offer for the seamers with the new ball, they caused minimal trouble and were negotiated with caution early on. The Australian pace attack, despite cycling through all their seamers within the first ten overs in search of a breakthrough, couldn't replicate the opening day's dominance.

TEA, DAY 2 - Session Summary - 26 overs, 84 runs, 0 wickets. A positive session for India as they go unblemished in the post-Lunch session after beginning their innings with a lead of 46 runs. On the other hand, the Australian bowlers would be feeling a bit exasperated as they have used all their bowling resources, but haven't broken through as yet. With this, India have led three sessions so far versus Australia dominating two.

Halt! Mitchell Starc has taken a blow to the side of his helmet. Starc quickly signals to the Indian fielders around him that he’s fine, but as per protocol, the physio is out for the mandatory concussion check. Meanwhile, the umpires have decided to use this opportunity to call for a Drinks break! It’s been a good first hour for India, but this last-wicket stand is proving to be a frustrating one. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have shown admirable resilience, adding 14 runs so far off 38 balls. Starc has been farming the strike effectively and has not hesitated to play his shots when the ball is in his zone. The visitors will be eager to wrap up this stubborn last-wicket stand quickly and head into their second innings with as healthy a lead as possible.

Time to get going on Day 2. The sun is shining in all its glory as Jasprit Bumrah and his men disperse from the huddle and make their way out to the centre. They are followed by Alex Carey and Mitchell Starc. The debutant, Harshit Rana will kickstart proceedings with the ball for India. Rana to Carey first up. Two slips in place. Here we go!

PITCH REPORT - Russel Arnold and Wasim Akram are inspecting the Day 2 Perth pitch. Arnold says it is clear and sunny and much warmer. Informs that Australia have used the heavy roller once again which means there will be plenty of bounce. Also reckons that due to the presence of grass, the pitch will be quicker than Day 1. Wasim Akram says there's still a lot of grass on the pitch and also says the Indian bowlers bowled really well yesterday and constantly hit that 6-meter mark. Adds that there are a few small visible cracks that could open up depending on how long the game goes on.

On the other hand, Australia will look to Alex Carey, who has a knack for batting smartly with the tail, to help bridge the gap to India’s first-innings total of 150. Carey’s recent form in the Sheffield Shield gives him added confidence, and the hosts will be hoping for another gritty knock from him. Day 2 promises to be as riveting as the first. Stay tuned as the first ball is not far away.

In response, Jasprit Bumrah spearheaded India’s spirited comeback with the ball. As the day wore on, the pitch seemed to quicken, aiding the Indian pacers. Mohammed Siraj and debutant Harshit Rana provided excellent support to leave the hosts reeling at 67/7, trailing by 83 runs at the close of play. After a night's rest, Bumrah and Co. will be fresh and determined to finish off the innings swiftly, ideally keeping the hosts under 100.

Despite winning the toss, India could only muster 150 in their first innings, with the Australian pacers asserting dominance. Josh Hazlewood was the standout, claiming four wickets, while his fellow quicks chipped in effectively. The innings wasn’t without controversy, as KL Rahul was adjudged caught behind in a contentious decision where the third umpire found the evidence conclusive enough to overturn the on-field call of not out.

Hello, one and all! After an enthralling ride on the opening day, it's time to buckle up and dive into what promises to be another captivating day of Test cricket here in Perth. Day 1 of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy was nothing short of captivating, living up to all the pre-series expectations. It was a day dominated by the pacers, with a staggering 17 wickets tumbling, all claimed by the quicks.

... DAY 2, SESSION 1 ...

Right then, as we call it a day from this riveting first day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Perth Test sits delicately poised. India's next target will be the evergreen Alex Carey, whose lower middle-order heroics - including that match-defining 98 in Christchurch earlier this year - have often swung games Australia's way recently. As the weekend approaches, the action resumes on November 23, Saturday, at 2.20 am GMT, with our build-up kicking much earlier. This absorbing contest has already set the stage for what is to come in the Tests to follow ahead. Day 2 promises more of the same. Until then, cheers!

A similar trend was evident in Australia's innings as well, with the new ball doing all the damage. The batters struggled to cope with the nip and zip off the deck. The hosts have three wickets in hand now, and notably, 83 is Australia's lowest total against India in Test cricket. Will India restrict the hosts below that, or can Australia stage a thrilling comeback on Day 2? This storied rivalry's intensity ensures that anything can happen as we move forward.

So whom does this first day belong to? India? Australia? The pacers, to be very fair. But if we take a magnified look, India holds a slight upper hand as Australia's deficit still reads 83 runs with more than half of the side in the dugout already. A day of high-octane cricket saw both sides trade heavy punches - Hazlewood landed the first blow with a masterful 4-fer, demolishing India's lineup for a paltry 150, though debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy's gritty 41 and the Pant-Reddy's resistance offered minimal respite for the visitors. But just when Australia thought they had the upper hand and it was a good toss to lose, Indian skipper Bumrah unleashed his own brand of threatening bowling with a 4-wicket haul and the others too chipping in time.

Bumrah's fiery spell found perfect partners in Siraj and Harshit Rana, who kept the pressure cooking. Rana delivered a gem of a delivery to send the dangerous Travis Head packing, while Labuschagne found himself frozen in time - facing excruciatingly questioning 24 deliveries to scratch his first run. He was joined by the seasoned Mitchell Marsh who attempted to withstand the storm but couldn't extend his inning with Labuschagne too, following the suit sooner. After that, it all went from bad to worst for 'Straaya' as they were further damaged to 59/7, staring down at a scary all-out.

While India's batting lineup was consumed by the relentless Aussie pacers bossing up and reduced to 150, the tourists fought fire with fire, extinguishing Australia's top order. Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the chief destructor, unleashing a questioning spell that left the Aussie top order smouldering. His accuracy and movement proved too hot to handle as he single-handedly reduced Australia to 19/3, dashing the hopes of Khawaja, McSweeney, and Smith in quick succession.

STUMPS, DAY 1 - Session Summary - 27 overs, 67 runs, 7 wickets. Pace, pace, and scorching pace! This has been the story of this West Test so far, living up to its characteristic nature of pacers mastering the proceedings. An extraordinary commencement of this Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. A day of cricket where the bowlers bossed up all the sessions with 17 wickets falling on the first day of this first Test, and all of them were snagged by the seamers. Well and truly, a day to be forgotten for all the batters across both sides.

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Siraj gets in on the act now! Good low take by Rahul!  Siraj pulls the length back as he bends his back and hits the deck hard, on a shortish length, on off. Marsh gets on his toes to ride the bounce and defend it out with a straight bat. The outside edge is found and it goes low towards the slip cordon as Marsh tries to take one hand off the bat. It goes low to the left of third slip where Rahul stays low and dives to his left to take the catch. India start to celebrate but Marsh is asked to wait as the third umpire is called into action to check for a fair catch. Maiden! Fuller in length, on a tight line on off and nipping away, Usman Khawaja looks to block but is beaten once again.

3.50

Lovely delivery from Siraj! Good length on off, this one hits the deck and nips across with some additional bounce, Khawaja pokes at it and the ball whizzes past the outside edge.

3.40

Nagging length in the channel around off, threatening to shape it back in but this one goes straight on as well. Usman Khawaja makes yet another leave.

Another one that is bowled a tad full and outside off, Khawaja has no interest in playing at that one.

Fuller and wider this time, outside off, Khawaja lets this one through to the keeper.

Slightly back of a length and angling it across the off stump, Usman Khawaja watches it well and leaves it alone.

Another top nut to end the over! Hard length on off, straightening brilliantly off the deck and Marnus Labuschagne is squared up completely.

2.50

Edged and gone! Or is it? The Indians go up in appeal but Virat Kohli says no and that is an easy chance dropped by the experienced Indian batter. Jasprit Bumrah has his tail up and lands this one on a perfect length on off, gets it to angle across sharply and Labuschagne is just taken aback as he gets an outside edge to the right of second slip. Kohli dives across and has the ball in his hands but it pops out at the last moment. Kohli tries to maintain the ball in his right hand but it spills out as he falls over on his elbows.

2.40

Ooh, that one almost sneaked through as well! Similar length to the previous one but this one starts a bit straight and Marnus Labuschagne is able to get his bat in front of the pads and block it across to mid-wicket.

Marnus Labuschagne walks in at number 3.

2.3W

OUT! LBW! A prolonged appeal for LBW but the umpire says no. Seemed like two noises there but the Indians gather together and opt for the review driven mostly by Virat Kohli. Nagging length from Jasprit Bumrah pitched up around off and this one just darts back in off the deck. Nathan McSweeney looks to block off the front foot but the ball beats the inside edge to rap him on the pads. The third umpire has a look and there's nothing on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. Bumrah and India have their first as McSweeney departs cheaply on debut, top review.

2.20

Goes wider on the crease and angles in a fuller delivery from around the fifth stump line, McSweeney makes the leave but this one carries nicely to the keeper after pitching.

1.40

Good length in the channel outside off, going straight on with the arm, McSweeney leaves it alone.

Drags the length back and bowls it around the top of off, McSweeney gets pushed back but plays it late and with soft hands down in front of the slip cordon.

OUT!

OUT!

OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Pat Cummins has had a bit of a torrid time with the ball so far but he gets probably the biggest wicket of this innings. Cummins keeps pitching the ball up but this time he brings the line a bit straighter and gets some lateral movement away from the left-hander thanks to the scrambled seam. Rishabh Pant gets squared up as he looks to flick against the angle and gets an outside edge that flies towards Steven Smith at second slip. Smith takes a fine catch with both hands right around his face and Pant's resistance has come to an end. He departs for 37 (78) and India now 121/7!

A huge confident appeal for caught behind but the umpire is unmoved on this one. Pat Cummins thinks there were two sounds and opts for a quick review. This is that in-between length, angling on the middle from around the stumps. It lands and gets an extra zip and bounce off the deck and comes quickly to the batter. Rishabh Pant is caught off-guard and just looks to defend it, but with no proper weight transfer on the front foot, he gets beaten on the outside edge. Rishabh Pant, unbeaten on 10 (24) and Dhruv Jurel on 4 (10) walk out to resume their innings with the bat for India. Mitchell Marsh is introduced into the attack right after the break. Three regular slips and a gully in place for the 'Bison' to start with. Here we go...

... DAY 1, SESSION 2 ...

Right then, India find themselves up against it early in the Test. A lot will rest on the shoulders of Pant, considering that Jurel and Nitish Kumar Reddy are playing their first Test in Australia. On the other hand, Australia will want to maintain the same intensity and continue doing what they did in the first session. They just kept things simple and were consistent in hitting the right areas to reap the rewards. Do join us back at 5 am GMT for the start of the second session. See you then. Cheers!

Virat Kohli's stay at the crease was brief as he became Hazlewood's second victim of the day. Amidst this, KL Rahul showcased immense patience and decisiveness in his shot selection and defense. Just when it seemed Rahul and Pant were steadying the innings, Starc broke the partnership with a contentious caught-behind decision. Initially given not out by the on-field umpire, the Australians reviewed successfully, with the third umpire finding enough evidence to overturn the decision.

Well, a thoroughly dominant morning for Australia! Despite losing the toss, they seized control of the first session with a masterful display of pace bowling, leaving India reeling under relentless pressure. After opting to bat first, India were rocked early when Mitchell Starc dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck. Coming in at number three, Devdutt Padikkal never seemed comfortable at the crease, struggling to capitalize on the rare loose deliveries that the Australian pace trio offered.

The Aussie pace trio - Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins, all have been instrumental so far. KL Rahul has got a start here and is joined by Virat Kohli. These two will try to weather this early storm and go unblemished to the end of the session.

In a spot of bother the visitors now, Virat Kohli is the new batter for India at number 4.

Goosebumps, right? Well, that's the magnitude of excitement for this series across the globe. Done with the pre-match formalities and it is now time for action to begin in this 'West Test' at Perth. Scatteringly cloudy skies welcome the two Indian openers. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul walk out to the middle. Mitchell Starc has the new red Kookaburra cherry in his hand and is all in readiness to kick off the proceedings. Let's play...

Right then, just a few moments away from the commencement of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australian legend Allan Border and the Indian stalwart Sunil Gavaskar walk out with the glittering trophy in their hands. They carefully place it on the podium. Now, the two sets of players walk out for their respective national anthems. It will be India's first, followed by the national anthem of Australia.

The captain of Australia, Pat Cummins says that they were a bit sceptical as to what to do. He adds that they are pretty happy either way. Shares that they have had a couple of months of build up and they can't wait to get started. Feels that they are well placed as a team before the start of this series. Mentions that any format they play against India is always fiercely fought. Tells that the wickets here in Perth are nice and bouncy and that is what you want as a pacer.

The stand-in captain of India, Jasprit Bumrah says it looks like a good wicket and says they are very confident. Adds they had great practice sessions coming into this series. He also says that they played a Test here in 2018 and they very well know what to expect from this pitch. He mentions that it gets quicker as the game progresses. Informs Nitish Kumar Reddy makes his Test debut as the fast-bowling all rounder. Tells they have four seamers along with Washington Sundar as the only spinner.

India (Playing XI) - KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy (On debut), Harshit Rana (On debut), Jasprit Bumrah (C), Mohammed Siraj.

Australia (Playing XI) - Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney (On debut), Marnus Labuschagne, Steven Smith, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey (WK), Pat Cummins (C), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.

TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in favour of India. Jasprit Bumrah opts to BAT first.

JUST IN - Nitish Kumar Reddy has been handed his maiden Test cap by Virat Kohli. There will be another debutant in the Indian camp with Harshit Rana also making his debut. The right-arm seamer, Rana has received his cap from Ravichandran Ashwin. So, two debutants for India and one in the form of Nathan McSweeney for Australia.

Right then, the tension is palpable as two giants of the game embark on what could be another historical journey and amidst all of it, Nathan McSweeney has just been presented the 'baggy green' by Darren Lehmann as he is all set to make his Test debut. Stick around as the all-important toss isn't far away now.

When India were bundled out for just 36 runs in the second innings of the opening game of this series last time around, no one anticipated the comeback and this time, they are yet again under the pump just before the opening game. A 3-0 loss at home to the Kiwis and a couple of crucial players set to miss the opening Test could just be the catalyst that this Indian side needs in order to find its best form but it won't be easy against this Aussie bowling attack.

The Aussie summer is always a time which cricketing fans wait religiously and it's for matches like these. For hosts, Australia it is an opportunity to take revenge of the last home series against India that saw them being handed a taste of their own medicine. This time around though, Pat Cummins and co will be raring to go and will have a full-strength squad to boast as well but that batting line-up could prove to be a tad fragile against quality bowlers.

Hello, hello! A very warm welcome to wherever you are across the globe. It is 'D-Day,' the day that marks the start of cricket's most-talked about rivalry in recent years - the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It may not have the history like the Ashes but the competitive spirit is second to none and it all starts here at the Perth Stadium just a few minutes away from the iconic WACA stadium and truth be told, the new stadium still has a lot of spice to offer as Australia and India embark on a highly-anticipated five-Test series.
