Commentary

Right then, that is it from this game where Bangladesh get the better of Netherlands for the third time in World Cups. However, the action continues as there is another match lined up where England is taking on Oman to stay alive in the tournament. That game will begin in a short while and you can just switch tabs to enjoy all the coverage of that match. Cheers!

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the victorious skipper of Bangladesh says that his team showed a lot of character. Adds that he liked Shakib Al Hasan's calmness while batting and he is happy for him. Tells that they did not know how the conditions would be or what score would be good to defend, but credits every bowler for their performance. Mentions that there was uneven bounce on the pitch but it was still good to bat on. Says that we all know how good Fizz is and he showed that again while Rishad Hossain was excellent as well.

Scott Edwards, the captain of Netherlands credits Bangladesh for the win and says that they were better in all three departments. Adds that they could not use the longer boundary while bowling and conceded 10-15 runs extra. Tells that they knew that Bangladesh has some good death bowlers and tried to score runs in the middle overs, but losing wickets at the wrong time cost them the game. Praises Aryan Dutt for his bowling effort and says it was the correct decision to include him in the team. Mentions that qualification is not in their hands anymore, so they will just look to enjoy and see what happens in the end.

Shakib Al Hasan wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH award for his crucial knock. He says it was important for someone from the batting unit to score big. Adds it was not a winning total but a challenging one and later the bowlers bowled well to win. Tells they were not sure what the good score, they talked about keeping wickets in hand. Shares Netherlands were batting well but credit goes to their bowlers who came back strongly and got breakthroughs.

Presentation Time...

Earlier in the game, Bangladesh posted a good total on the board courtesy of a brilliant half-century from Shakib Al Hasan while Tanzid Hasan and Mahmudullah also contributed well. Aryan Dutt and Paul van Meekeren were the pick of the bowlers for the Dutch  with a couple of wickets each while Tim Pringle chipped in with one. While chasin, Netherlands lost a couple of wickets early, but despite that got themselves in a good position. However, a big batting collapse after that cost them dearly in this game.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, have managed to defend this total but they did have a scare in the middle overs. They started well with Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib getting rid of both the openers early. Mahmudullah was called upon for one over and got a crucial breakthrough as well. However, it was their tall leggie, Rishad Hossain who made the difference in the end. He remained composed even after getting hit for a few, picked up three crucial wickets, including the big one of Sybrand Engelbrecht. Fizz was simply sensational with the ball and conceded just 12 runs in his entire spell and got one scalp as well.

Netherlands could not really utilise the Powerplay and lost both openers as well with not much on the board. It was the pair of Vikramjit and Sybrand Engelbrecht that steadied the ship for them with a crucial partnership but the former departed just as when he was starting to look dangerous. Then skipper Scott Edwards took responsibility and supported Sybrand Engelbrecht who was founding the boundaries at his will. They got them in a solid position but then lost two wickets in the same over which put them behind once again. They never really recovered from that and lost their skipper soon after. That was the nail in the coffin for them.

A crucial victory for Bangladesh! It was a professional performance from them and this means that, they are one step closer to the Super-8 stage now. Netherlands gave a tough fight but fell short in the end. Their qualification hopes gets slimmer, as now they need to beat Sri Lanka and hope that Bangladesh loses to Nepal. This result also means that the Lankans are officially out of this World Cup.

Commentary

We are back. The players are out in the middle. Mustafizur Rahman to bowl first. Max O'Dowd and Michael Levitt to open for Netherlands.

...THE CHASE...

Netherlands looked off the radar today! The seamers in particular failed to execute the plans. They either bowled wide outside off or down the leg side. Bangladesh didn't miss the chance and took on their bowlers. Logan van Beek and Bas de Leede didn't control the middle stage and that's when things started to tilt towards Bangladesh's side. Aryan Dutt however was superb on his return but apart from him, Netherlands looked well off their best. A must-win game and Netherlands have to come up clutch against an in-form Bangladeshi bowling side. The first six overs will be really crucial. Stay tuned for the second half.

A late flourish from Bangladesh means they do get close to 160. Bangladesh scored 26 runs in the last two overs which came in handy on a pitch which looks two-paced and not easy to bat on. For Bangladesh though, Shakib Al Hasan was the mainstay. Bangladesh lost two wickets inside the Powerplay but the stand between Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah blossomed and gave the impetus the Asian team was looking for. Hridoy fell, Mahmudullah fell but Shakib Al Hasan showed his experience and stuck through one end throughout the innings. He scored his first fifty in around 20 T20Is for his team which looks really valuable and crucial.

Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek went for runs in their first over but it's important for them to execute their plans in the second half of the innings. This pitch looks good to bat and Bangladesh will look for a score around 160 from hereon.

Done with the pre-match formalities! It is an early start here in Kingstown, but there is a decent crowd in, and they are making a lot of noise as well. We can see the Netherlands players spread out and take their respective field positions. Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto are the two openers for Bangladesh. Vivian Kingma has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

We are moments away from the first T20I game at this venue for over a decade. However, before that, the players from both sides make their way out to the middle and line up for their respective national anthems. It will be Netherlands' first followed by the national anthem of Bangladesh.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh says that they don't mind batting first. Adds that they just need to be a bit careful with the new ball and play according to the conditions. Says that Rishad Hossain is an exciting player and they did not have a quality leg-spinner for a long time, but happy to have him in the squad. Informs they are unchanged.

The captain of Netherlands, Scott Edwards says they will bowl first. Adds not too many international matches have been played here. Shares they have been playing good cricket and feels they just need to play the same way and give themselves the best chance to win. Informs they have made one change as Aryan Dutt comes in for Teja Nidamanuru.

Bangladesh (Unchanged Playing XI) - Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto(C), Litton Das(WK), Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman.

Netherlands (Playing XI) - Michael Levitt, Max O'Dowd, Vikramjit Singh, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Scott Edwards (C/WK), Bas de Leede, Logan van Beek, Tim Pringle, Aryan Dutt (In place of Teja Nidamanuru), Paul van Meekeren, Vivian Kingma.

TOSS - Scott Edwards calls it right and Netherlands have elected to BOWL first.

UPDATE - We have some good news! The rain has stopped and the covers are coming off as well. If it stays like this, the toss will happen at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). The match will begin at 8.15 pm IST (2.45 pm GMT). Stay tuned.

UPDATE - There is a bit of drizzle in St. Vincent and toss has been officially delayed. It is not that heavy and we should get going in a short while.

PITCH REPORT - Alan Wilkins is pitchside. He says the dimensions will play a key role as it is 61 and 67 meters square boundaries and the wind speed is 17kmph which could be a big factor. Shaun Pollock joins him and says there is some greenness on the pitch and bit of cracks, there will be good carry as well. Reckons the ball will come onto the ball nicely. Feels the team will like to bowl first on this kind of pitch.

Netherlands have a similar outing so far in the tournament. They won their opening game against Nepal but they too were beaten by South Africa. Again, by the looks of it, Netherlands would or should have got something out of that game as they lost from a winning position. However, the past is past and both teams would hope they do not waste any more opportunities or rely on others to get through the line. A win here for either of them could help them qualify. Who are you backing? Stay tuned for toss and other updates.

South Africa have already quailifed for the next round in Group D. The onus is on Bangladesh and Netherlands who have two points each to book the remaining spot and stroll for Super Eights round. However, it hasn't been easy for both these contestants so far. Bangladesh won their opening match against the Lankans but lost by a very small margin against South Africa. A match that should have been won by Bangladesh and it would have eased the nerves for them coming into this game but now it's a must-win for the Bangla Tigers.

Hello and welcome everyone to match number 27 in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. It is time to buckle up up as we bring you live coverage between Bangladesh and Netherlands from Group D. The Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent is all set to host the first game of the tournament and expect yet another entertaining encounter as these two teams face-off for two crucial points.

...MATCH DAY...

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup has been captivating audiences with its gripping encounters, where low-scoring affairs have emerged as the order of the day so far. The matches have been characterized by intense battles between bat and ball, with bowlers seemingly holding the upper hand and restricting the flow of runs. The excitement of the T20 World Cup 2024 now shifts to Kingston, St. Vincent, where the highly competitive Group D promises another enthralling encounter between the Dutch and Bangladesh. Talking about the Netherlands first, they made an impressive start to their World Cup campaign by securing a win against Nepal in their opening fixture. Moreover, they demonstrated their potential to cause another upset when they posed a dangerous threat to the mighty South African side, despite defending a modest total of just 103 runs but it just wasn't their day. Netherlands' batting unit has given a lukewarm return so far, and to be fair to the batters, it just hasn't been a batting friendly affair. However, the likes of Max O'Dowd and Sybrand Engelbrecht have done the heavy lifting with the bat, the others need to get their game up and adapt to the situations. The Dutch bowling unit has been highly impressive, nearly pulling off an incredible heist against the mighty South African batting lineup. Vivian Kingma, Tim Pringle, and Logan van Beek, who has been their highest wicket-taker so far, have all been among the wickets, leading the charge. However, a well-rounded performance, with both batting and bowling clicking in unison, could make the Netherlands a tough nut to crack for any team in this tournament. Shifting our focus to the wounded lions from the subcontinent, Bangladesh, we find a team that has consistently shown its preparedness and ability to pose significant challenges, only to falter mid-way through campaigns. Their recent humbling defeat at the hands of the South African side has placed them in a precarious situation, and another loss from here could potentially derail their campaign altogether. Towhid Hridoy has been carrying the batting on his shoulders, but the experienced guys like Litton Das and Mahmudullah have also chipped in at times. However, they just couldn't get it going in the previous game, failing to chase down a measly 114 which is gotta sting them. Tanzid Hasan and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto will be itching to contribute more consistently with the willow. On the bowling front, they've been decent, with Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib leading the pace attack. Rishad Hossain has surprisingly outshone the veteran Shakib Al Hasan, who's due for a big performance. The bowling hasn't been too much of a concern, but they'll surely need the batters to step up big time if they want to bounce back strongly. Also, a new venue of Arnos Vale , St. Vincent, adds an extra layer of intrigue to the clash. Who do you think will win?
