Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where Chennai gets their second win while Gujarat will need to come back stronger in the next game. Next up in the Indian T20 League is the battle between two teams who are searching for their first points. It will be Hyderabad taking on Mumbai on 27th March, Wednesday at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Shivam Dube is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his terrific knock. He says that this team allows him to express himself freely. Adds that he loves the franchise and wants to keep winning games for them. Tells that he knows that the bowlers will bowl short to him and he has worked on it. Ends by saying that his role is to bat at a higher strike-rate and that is exactly what he did in this game.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, the victorious skipper of Chennai starts by saying that it was a near-perfect contest and to beating a team like Gujarat by such a huge margin is a big positive. Appreciates Rachin Ravindra who played a fantastic innings along with Shivam Dube and lauds the little cameo from Sameer Rizvi. Adds that having someone like MS Dhoni is a huge luxury. He says he is quite impressed with the way they fielded and goes on to appreciate Ajinkya Rahane and says that he is a fantastic fielder and even in the previous game, he took a brilliant catch. Ends up by saying that he hopes the team to do well in the upcoming games.

Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat says that Chennai outplayed them. Says they executed well in the bowling. Adds they did not get the desired start and kept losing wickets regularly and had a very poor Powerplay. States that they were expecting the target to be in the range of 190–200. He further adds that the wicket was hard and there was a nice grass covering as well but mentions that they let themselves down in the batting. Ends up by saying that it is a good learning experience.

Presentation Time...

Deepak Chahar is down for a quick chat. He begins by saying that he is tasked to bowl at least three overs inside the Powerplay and the two-bounce rule is helping him as a bowler to adjust his length more precisely and keeps the batters guessing. He adds that there's very minimal dew and the ball grips and also gets a good bounce as well. Appreciates Ruturaj Gaikwad and says that he is doing really well as a leader.

Earlier in the game, Chennai posted a massive total on the board courtesy of a blazing fifty from Shivam Dube along with a couple of excellent 40s from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra. Daryl Mitchell and Sameer Rizvi also played nice little cameos towards the end. Gujarat bowlers were a bit expensive but Rashid Khan managed to pick up a couple of wickets while Mohit Sharma, Spencer Johnson, and Sai Kishore chipped in with one each. While chasing, after losing their captain early, they never really recovered from that and tasted their biggest defeat in terms of runs in this competition.

Chennai, on the other hand, will be really happy with their bowling effort. Despite going for some runs in the first couple of overs, Deepak Chahar provided a big breakthrough by getting rid of Shubman Gill which set the tone for them. It was him again who got rid of Wriddhiman Saha while the decision to give the ball to Daryl Mitchell worked as he dismissed Vijay Shankar, but credit also goes to MS Dhoni for an outstanding catch. The hosts never really allowed the opposition to get back in the game and kept picking up wickets at regular intervals. Their fielding and catching were brilliant as well except for one blemish from Ravindra. Gaikwad was really good at using his bowling resources effectively. Mustafizur Rahman and Tushar Deshpande were brilliant at death picking up a couple of wickets each while Matheesha Pathirana also chipped in with one in the end.

Gujarat needed a quick start chasing this big total and were going at a good rate till the third over where they lost their skipper Shubman Gill which put them under a lot of pressure. Wriddhiman Saha did play a few lusty blows but he too was dismissed on the very next delivery after getting hit on his helmet. Vijay Shankar too could not make much of an impact in this game. Sai Sudharsan had to play anchor and along with David Miller steadied the ship for a bit. However, with the required rate creeping up, Miller lost his wicket which shifted the momentum completely. After that, the wickets fell like nine pins as they went from 96/3 to 121/7. The tail huffed and puffed to their way to 143/8 ultimately losing this game by a big margin of 63 runs.

CHENNAI MAKES IT TWO IN TWO! A complete performance from the home side from start to finish and once again, they look like one of the top contenders this season. Gujarat lost for the first time against Chennai in the league stages of this competition, and the trend of hosts winning games this season extends to seven games now.

Another excellent over from Matheesha Pathirana. He goes full and around off this time. Rahul Tewatia swings hard to go downtown but only manages to meet thin air. Just a couple of overs left and Gujarat need 79 runs. What a sensational display of bowling from Chennai's bowlers.

17.21

Full again, and on the middle and leg, Rahul Tewatia flicks it through square leg for just one.

17.10

A huge confident appeal for LBW and up goes the finger. Rahul Tewatia straightaway reviews it and sends it upstairs.  This is fired in at 151 clicks by Tushar Deshpande on a fuller length aiming the leg stump line, Rahul Tewatia swings for a flick and misses. The ball thuds his pads. UltraEdge comes and shows a flat line. Ball Tracker though shows that the ball is clearly pitching outside leg. Not Out and the on-field decision is overturned.

Commentary

We are back with the all-important chase to begin! The two Umpires stride out to the middle. Chennai fielders are seen in the last-minute huddle near the ropes before scattering throughout the field. Shivam Dube has been subbed out and Matheesha Pathirana will take the field for Chennai. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill are the two openers for Gujarat. Deepak Chahar has the new ball and is all in readiness to get the things underway in the chase. Let's go...

... The Run Chase ...

Right then, Gujarat have a steep hill to climb having a daunting target of 207. But the way Gujarat is habitual of winning from crunch situations, it surely won't be an easy task for Chennai as the pitch seems to be perfect for the batters to wreak havoc and Gujarat do have a strong batting unit that can turn things around. An interesting run-chase in this marquee clash awaits. Stay tuned.

Rachin Ravindra is down for a quick chat for his blistering knock of 46 runs. He says that the wicket was good to bat on as the ball skidded on nicely. Adds that it is nice to bat with Gaikwad as he is very calm and keeps him in the game. Tells that the wickets in India are pretty good and outfields are quick as well so you want to make full use of the Powerplay. Mentions that he was just trying to show intent from the start and was lucky that the balls were pitched in his areas. Says that Conway is very consistent and he can imitate him, he will be in a good space. Ends by saying that the total is slightly above-par, but there is dew in, and they will need to execute their roles well to defend this one.

On the other hand, Gujarat bowled decently for the first couple of overs, but then they were taken aback. Umesh Yadav and Azmatullah Omarzai bowled in tandem in the Powerplay. However, they were unsettled by the onslaught from Rachin. It was the leggie wizard Rashid Khan who provided the much-needed breakthrough for Gujarat by removing the southpaw, courtesy of some sensational glove work by Wriddhiman Saha behind the wickets. Wriddhiman Saha again displayed his brilliance as he stumped Ajinkya Rahane, off a beauty of a delivery from Sai Kishore. Spencer Johnson, though expensive, removed Ruturaj, and Gujarat bowled a couple of economical overs following it. But again, they lost the plot and conceded quick runs that stung them badly. Also, Gujarat was a bit sloppy in the field as Sai Kishore dropped Gaikwad in the very first over, which proved to be costly for them. Rashid Khan ended with a couple of wickets but he proved to be expensive. But despite the onslaught wreaked by Chennai batters, Mohit Sharma was the odd man out as he used all his experience and bowled an excellent final over with a wicket conceding just 8 runs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra opened the innings for Chennai in style! Rachin Ravindra led the yellow brigade to a flying start as he found boundaries with ease. Of course, his inning of 46 runs featured glorious shots that must be mentioned. Ruturaj Gaikwad adapted to the role of an anchor and rotated the strike back to Ravindra. The two amassed 69 runs in the first Powerplay before Rachin got out in an unfortunate manner, narrowly missing his well-deserved half-century. But his wicket didn't slow down the scoring rate as Ruturaj Gaikwad took charge and kept finding crucial boundaries. Rahane couldn't stay out for long. Shivam Dube was the next man in, and he smoked the ball out of the park from the get-go. The two added a quick 23 runs together before Ruturaj departed on 46, narrowly missing his half-century. There came a phase of a couple of quiet overs, but Dube turned things around again with his fearless 50 and strong-range hitting. He struck the ball at will and again brought the scoring rate over 10. Daryl Mitchell along with Shivam Dube contributed an effective stand of 57 runs. Sameer Rizvi had a dream start striking two sixes in his first four deliveries and marking his arrival in style. A couple of cameos from Mitchell and Jadeja gassed Chennai to breach the 200 mark.

16 fours and 11 sixes struck by Chennai. Phew, that was a breathless first half of play here at Chepauk and the team in yellow will surely walk to the sheds on a positive note as they blistered 51 runs off the last five overs.

OUT! RUN OUT! Only a run to end the innings then! Mohit Sharma bowls this slow again and short, on middle, Ravindra Jadeja comes down the track and pulls it towards deep mid-wicket for a run, Daryl Mitchell turns around for the second but Jadeja did not move at all from the non-striker's end, Vijay Shankar picks up and throws at the keeper's end where Wriddhiman Saha takes the bails off. It is Jadeja who departs and Chennai finishes on 206/6!

19.54

FOUR! Gets it through! Mohit Sharma bowls a good wide yorker, outside off, Ravindra Jadeja backs away a bit and throws his bat at it, the ball flies off the toe-end past short third man for a boundary.

19.42

Back of a length this time, on middle, takes pace off, Ravindra Jadeja moves across and scoops it wide of short fine leg, the fielder chases after and puts it a good dive to push it back inside. Two runs taken. 200 up for Chennai!

Ravindra Jadeja walks in to face the last three deliveries of the first innings.

19.3W

OUT! TAKEN! A promising cameo comes to an end now! Mohit Sharma goes pace on and serves this full, on middle, Sameer Rizvi fails to get under it full and mistimes his slog straight down the throat of David Miller at long on who makes no mistake. Chennai lose half their side now.

19.20

Short of a length and on middle, slower too, Sameer Rizvi goes through his pull shot early and misses it, he wants the bye but is sent back as Wriddhiman Saha misses his shy at the batter's end.

19.11

Fuller one and on off, Daryl Mitchell drills it towards long off for a single.

Mohit Sharma (3-0-28-0) to bowl the last over. Also, a penalty for Gujarat for slow-over rate. An extra fielder will have to be stationed inside the 30-yard circle. How crucial can this be? Let's find out.

SIX! There he goes again! Sameer Rizvi, you beauty! Rashid Khan gives this one some more flight, on off, Sameer Rizvi skips down the track and swipes hard at it, does not get it from the middle but just enough to send it over long off for another maximum.

18.50

Swing and a miss! This is tossed up, full and on off, turns away, Sameer Rizvi goes for another slog-sweep but misses it this time.

18.42

Goes short and around off, Sameer Rizvi stays back and bunts it towards sweeper covers for a brace.

18.36

SIX! OH WOW! That is some way to announce yourself in the biggest T20 league in the world. This is floated, full and around middle, Sameer Rizvi gets down on one knee and absolutely nails his slog sweep over the deep square leg fence for a biggie. Not many can do that to Rashid Khan!

Sameer Rizvi is in at number 6.

18.2W

OUT! TAKEN! The plan to give Rashid Khan the 19th over has worked for Gujarat. He gets rid of the dangerous Shivam Dube here. He bowls this flatter, short and outside off, keeping it away from the batter, Dube tries to fetch it from there and slog it away but only manages to slice it in the air, Vijay Shankar at extra covers settles under it and pouches it safely. Dube goes back after a brilliant knock as Chennai are four down now.

18.11

Tossed up, full and on middle, turns away, Daryl Mitchell tries to go over the in-field on the off side but gets an outside edge on the bounce to short third man for a single.

It will be Rashid Khan to bowl the penultimate over.

17.50

Clever bowling! Mohit Sharma bowls a deceptive slower bouncer around off, Shivam Dube withdraws from his shot at the last moment. It is not given as a wide but Dube takes a review. However, the replay shows that it is under the head height and is a fair delivery.

17.41

Goes fuller and on off, Daryl Mitchell mistimes his lofted shot on the bounce to long off for another run.

17.31

17.26

SIX! EFFORTLESS! Mohit Sharma bowls the back-of-the-hand slower one, full and outside off, Shivam Dube is expecting that, waits for it, and tonks it cleanly over the long off fence for a biggie. That also brings up the 50-run partnership between these two batters.

Deshpande fires it on the fuller length, right ahead of the boot of Tewatia. He goes for a flick shot but completely misses and gets a ping on the front pad. MS Dhoni also looks excited for this one and they go for a review. UltraEdge shows no bat is involved. Ball Tracker confirms that the ball is pitched outside leg. Not Out and the on-field Umpire's decision stands. Also, they cross for a leg bye.

Is that out? Chennai looks very confident and they take the review for a LBW decision on Rahul Tewatia. UltraEdge shows nothing and Ball Tracking indicates that it is pitching outside leg. Chennai lose a review.

15.50

Oh, Chennai has opted for a review here against the Umpire's decision for a Wide. Tushar Deshpande cannons it full and outside the tramline. Rahul Tewatia bends low and looks to drive it away through the off side but misses. The replay confirms that the ball has passed just inside the tramline. A good review from Chennai and the Umpire's decision is overturned.

Strategic Break! The contest is slipping away from the reach of Gujarat with every single delivery as they haven't found a boundary in the last three overs. Deepak Chahar just ended his brilliant spell with a two-wicket haul. Tushar Deshpande has been impressive as well and still has an over left in his bank. For Gujarat, Sai Sudharsan has held onto one end but he has witnessed the collapse on the other. Though they have still got Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia to come up next, Gujarat need to fire now as they still need a hefty 97 off the last 36 deliveries.

17.50

Clever bowling! Mohit Sharma bowls a deceptive slower bouncer around off, Shivam Dube withdraws from his shot at the last moment. It is not given as a wide but Dube takes a review. However, the replay shows that it is under the head height and is a fair delivery.

16.11

Back of a length and on middle, Daryl Mitchell gets hurried and mistimes his pull shot through mid-wicket for a single.

Strategic Break! Well, this is some serious batting by Shivam Dube! Although there came a phase of a couple of overs where Gujarat really pulled things back with Mohit Sharma being introduced into the attack. It also yielded a pricy wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad who missed his half-century narrowly. But Shivam Dube wasted no time and took on Spencer Johnson and Rashid Khan to bring back the scoring rate over 10s. Chennai are eyeing a strong finish and probably targeting to end their innings on a high note with seven wickets in hand. Whereas, Gujarat seriously need to put brakes on the scoring to restrict the opposition below 200. An interesting climax of the first innings is on the cards. Get your seatbelts on!

Strategic Break! Time for a hydration break with some strategies and Gujarat is in desperate need of it. The two Chennai openers, Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad again provided a solid foundation for them especially Rachin Ravindra who admirably struck the ball with ease and inflated the scoring rate with a successful Powerplay. They managed to fetch 69 runs from the first six before Rachin Ravindra got dismissed in an unfortunate fashion, courtesy of some tremendous glove work by Wriddhiman Saha behind the wickets. Chennai will aim to keep the scoring rate high whereas Gujarat will surely aim to get a couple more wickets and pull things a bit in the mid-overs phase. Sai Kishore provided a glimmer of hope by breaking a threatening stand, leading to a flurry of wickets as most of their bowlers picked a couple of scalps to their name. Despite facing a challenging task of defending 43 runs in the final 5 overs with seven wickets remaining, Gujarat's bowlers, led by Mohit Sharma, and his prowess to tie up the batters for runs, along with the impressive Spencer Johnson and the fearless Umesh Yadav, they held their nerves well and tightened the screws conceding fewer runs in the death overs, ultimately securing victory. They executed this marvel in the absence of the fiery pacer Shami.
