Commentary

Right then, that is it from Match 40 where the home side Delhi defeated Gujarat in a thriller of a game. Delhi creeps up to the sixth position with this win and the points table is tightly stacked in the middle now with three teams at 8 points. And for Gujarat, things have gotten a bit more challenging with this itching defeat. But the action in the Indian T20 League 2024 continues as next up is the highly anticipated clash on the cards. It will be the reverse fixture where Hyderabad takes on Bengaluru at the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium of Hyderabad. That game will begin on Thursday, 25th April at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). But as you know, you can join us a lot sooner for the pre-match build-up. Till then, take care, and goodbye!

Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi is the Player of the Match for his blistering and decisive knock along with a couple of fine catches. Pant starts by saying that Nortje was having a bit of a tough time and T20 can be a funny game as the ball was coming on nicely after the 14-15th over and when someone is bowling well, he should be given a chance and hence Rasikh Dar was given the 19th over. He also adds that it doesn't always come on but thankfully, it did for them. Mentions that at 43/3, the conversation with Axar Patel was to keep scoring 8-9 runs per over and the opposition had class spinners and waited for the opportunity to put them away. On his fitness, he says that every day it feels better and better and after such a big lay off, he is happy to get back in shape. Ends by saying that once he hits one six in a game, it charges him up and he is just trying to do the best from his side.

Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony...

Kuldeep Yadav is down for a flash interview. He says that they are happy to get those two crucial points. Says that it was an amazing game of cricket and in the end, they held their nerves strongly to get over the line. Adds they went with a plan and executed well in the mid-overs. States that the ball didn't turn a lot but in the end, they had enough on the board. Says that he didn't try to do anything extra and just focused on his lines and lengths and saw what the batters were trying to do.

Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat says that they played some great cricket and is very proud of the way the boys played and is just a bit disappointed to have not gotten over the line. Adds that when you are chasing over 220 runs, you shouldn't think much and just have to go for the big shots. Mentions that the Impact Player rule has a role to play in the big scores in recent times as the teams can go big in the middle overs even after losing wickets. Adds that they looked to restrict the opposition to somewhere around 200 but gave away a few runs and feels that given the dimensions of the ground, 224 was chasable. Ends by saying that execution is very crucial when there is a set batter in the death overs and when the wicket is as good as it was here, it is a difficult game for the bowlers.

Earlier in the game, Delhi put up a formidable total of 224 runs on the board. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Prithvi Shaw laid a solid foundation for the home team, providing stability at the crease. However, their partnership was cut short when both batters were dismissed in the same over, momentarily slowing down the run rate. Nevertheless, Delhi's fortunes turned around with the arrival of Axar Patel, who was promoted to number 3, and Rishabh Pant. The duo orchestrated a remarkable recovery, forging a resilient partnership of 113 runs. While Axar reached his fifty, Pant remained unbeaten on 88, plundering 31 runs off the last over and ensuring Delhi posted a daunting total on the scoreboard. Coming to chase, Gujarat despite losing Gill early, kept up with the required rate and after a sensational tug-of-war of a game that went down to the wire, Delhi emerged as the better side of the two.

Delhi, following a strong batting finish, sought to replicate the same while defending. While they managed to make an early breakthrough with Anrich Nortje dismissing Shubman Gill, Delhi missed further opportunities to capitalize during the Powerplay. Axar Patel's costly drop of a straightforward catch proved to be a significant setback for Delhi. However, Axar Patel redeemed himself later in the game by taking three crucial catches and a wicket, contributing to Delhi's fightback. The spinners then took charge, effectively stemming the flow of runs and exerting pressure. Rasikh Dar and Kuldeep Yadav, with a couple of wickets each, played pivotal roles in turning the game around dramatically in Delhi's favor. However, the game witnessed another dramatic turn when Gujarat managed to counterattack effectively for a couple of overs before Mukesh Kumar dismissed the dangerous-looking Miller who dented them badly. The game went down to the wire where Delhi somehow managed to defend 18 off the final over and registered their fourth win of this season.

WHAT A CRACKER OF A CRICKET GAME WE HAVE WITNESSED HERE! Delhi emerge as the victors eventually but surely, their breaths were taken aback in the backend. The crowd has got every penny's worth it as they see their home side winning off the last-ball thriller. In the pursuit to chase 225, Gujarat faced an early setback as they lost the wicket of their captain, Shubman Gill, in just the second over. However, Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan took charge, stabilizing the innings with a steady partnership. Sudharsan, benefiting from a stroke of luck after surviving an early dropped catch, capitalized on the opportunity, accelerating the scoring rate to register a brisk half-century. Yet, his departure at a crucial juncture led to a sudden collapse for Gujarat, as they lost Saha, Omarzai, and Shahrukh in quick succession during the mid-overs. With the required run rate escalating beyond reach, pressure mounted on the batting side. Nevertheless, David Miller emerged as a beacon of hope for Gujarat, showcasing his aggressive batting prowess in the 17th over, where he relentlessly fetched boundaries and injected vitality back into Gujarat's innings. Miller's departure at the very wrong time costed Gujarat dearly and despite Rashid's valiant efforts in the final over, Gujarat fell short by just four runs.

So close yet so far for Rashid Khan and Gujarat here! Mukesh Kumar shows some bravery and goes for the yorker yet again, bowling it around off and too full again. Rashid has to fetch it a bit and ends up getting it off the toe end of the bat. The ball flies down to wide long on and Tristan Stubbs collects it on the bounce as the batters don't even bother to run. Delhi win by 4 runs!

19.56

SIX! Oh, hello! There's the first one! Full and wide, just a bit too full though and Rashid Khan manages to get under it. Rashid powers it brilliantly over long off and keeps the game alive with a vital maximum. Are we in for a Super Over here? Surely not, right? 5 needed off the final ball.

19.40

No run taken, a golden dot ball and Rashid Khan now needs to hit two back-to-back maximums to seal the win. Goes full and straight and gets it full enough, Rashif heaves it away flat and hard towards deep mid-wicket and doesn't take the single.

19.30

That should have been put away and Mukesh Kumar will feel he has got away with that. Goes for the wide yorker but serves a full toss instead and Rashid Khan misses the swipe across the line. Rishabh Pant gets a bad bounce but the fielder at short third is alert to save the boundary. Rashid reviews it for a no ball but it is well below the waist.

19.24

FOUR! Rashid Khan is making Delhi pay for that dropped catch. Slower one, bowled a bit short and outside off, Rashid Khan waits well and slashes it high over cover-point for another boundary. 11 needed off 4 balls.

19.14

FOUR! Rashid Khan with a classic shot! Full and outside off, Rashid stays deep and shuffles across before whipping it helicopter-like towards cow corner for a boundary.

Mohit Sharma is the new man in. And it will be Mukesh Kumar to bowl the final over. Will he be able to defend 18? Let's find out...

OUT! TIMBER! Look what it means to the young man Rasikh Dar but Sai Kishore has done his job he will feel. Finally, Rasikh goes pace on and nails the quick yorker angling it into the stumps. Sai Kishore is beaten for pace as he looks to flick it away and the off stump gets knocked out of the ground. 19 needed off the final over.

18.56

SIX! Uh, oh! Rasikh Dar and Delhi are letting it slip here. Another slower one, pitched up this time and right in the slot around off, Sai Kishore waits well and smacks it over long on for another biggie.

18.46

SIX! Wow, what a hit from Sai Kishore! Another back-of-the-hand slower one, on a good length and around off. Kishore gets across a bit and lifts it high and over wide long on for a maximum.

18.30

Slower one from around stumps, on a good length and outside off, Sai Kishore looks to crash it through covers but misses.

18.21

An immaculate display of athleticism and presence of mind from Tristan Stubbs in the deep here. This is pitched up outside off stump and Rashid Khan thumps it flat towards long off and the ball seems to be sailing over the ropes but Stubbs leaps high up and grabs the catch. However, he is falling over and manages to push the ball back in. Just a single.

Has Stubbs managed to throw the ball back in the field of play in time? He times his jump to perfection, catches it, and throws it back in the field of play before falling beyond the ropes. The replay confirms that he has cleanly thrown the ball in time. Saves five for his team.

18.14

FOUR! Pressure is clearly on young Rasikh Dar as he serves a juicy full toss on the pads, Rashid Khan just helps it down to fine leg for a boundary.

18.11wd

WIDE! Attempted slower one, full and outside off, a bit too wide though.

FOUR LEG BYES! Fuller in length and around leg stump, Sai Kishore looks to get inside the line and scoop it away but misses. The ball deflects off the pads and goes between the keeper and short fine leg for a boundary. Rishabh Pant reviews it for a LBW but the ball is clearly pitching outside leg stump.

Is that out? A review for LBW from Delhi challenging the on-field decision. Nothing on UltraEdge and the Ball Tracker shows that the ball has clearly pitched outside the leg stump. NOT OUT and Delhi burn a review here.

17.51

That is such good death bowling from Mukesh Kumar. Full and outside off, right in the blockhole, Rashid Khan can only jam it out on the off side for a single.

17.51nb

No ball! Oh, dear! A howler of a delivery from Mukesh Kumar as his attempted wide yorker lands beyond the cut strip and it will be a No Ball. Free Hit to follow as well.

17.41

On a hard length and around leg stump, Sai Kishore pushes it away through wide mid on for a single.

Sai Kishore is in at number 9.

17.3W

OUT! CAUGHT! What a pressure grab from Rasikh Dar and he is pumped up! Mukesh Kumar persists with the toe-crushing yorker and gets it spot-on on middle and leg stump. David Miller looks to hang deep and whip it away and does exactly that but gets it flat towards deep square leg. The ball is dipping late and Dar almost spills it but manages to hang on and Miller is distraught as he should have put that away. Delhi can breathe again here.

Commentary

We are back for Gujarat's reply! The umpires are back out in the middle and the players of Delhi have taken their places on the field. It will be skipper Shubman Gill to open the innings for Gujarat in his 100th Indian T20 League game alongside Wriddhiman Saha who really needs to fire. Delhi use their Impact Player by bringing on Rasikh Dar for Prithvi Shaw. Khaleel Ahmed has been handed the new ball and is ready to fo. Let's play...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Gujarat need 225 to win on a track that looks slower than the last one used on this ground and the dew might not even come into play. With a shaky bowling lineup at the other end though, Shubman Gill and co will still have a chance but whether they can improve their own batting from the previous games remains to be seen. Delhi will be confident and upbeat coming into the chase as well. Stick around as the crucial run chase is up next.

Axar Patel, one of the chief architects of Delhi's innings is down for a chat. He says that it was a phenomenal finish by Rishabh Pant and he says that he really enjoyed batting at number 3. He says that his role was to hit the ball and take on the spinners. Adds the wicket was a bit tricky and they planned to take it to the deep. Says the mindset is very important to attack and pick the bowlers, and hit the ball with strength. Ends up by saying that they aimed for 170-180 and thinks 224 is more than enough on this track.

Gujarat will not be one bit pleased with how the first innings panned out as they had things under control when the Powerplay ended. Shubman Gill kept faith in his opening bowlers and Sandeep Warrier delivered in his second over, getting rid of both Delhi openers and then picked up a third wicket as well. However, the spin duo of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad couldn't quite control the middle phase especially the latter who took a sensational catch early on. However, it was Mohit Sharma who took the most pounding and conceded 73 runs in his 4 overs, the most-ever in a single four-over spell in the tournament's history. Also, Gill missed a trick by not trusting Warrier for the 19th over, and instead, he threw Sai Kishore into the line of fire as he had not bowled a single ball prior to this game. All in all, a poor end with the ball, and now they have their task cut out.

Now, that was some way to finish the innings, a staggering 31 runs off the final over and Rishabh Pant is back to his best. Delhi notched up 97 runs in the last 5 overs and that is nothing short of a daylight robbery to get to 224 in the end from Delhi. Delhi started their innings with a barrage of powerful hits from Jake Fraser-McGurk and Prithvi Shaw but both of them fell prey in the deep and that too in the same over that put them on the back foot. Shai Hope too fell cheaply but the move to send Axar Patel at number 3 slowly started to pay dividends. Patel along with a resurgent Rishabh Pant added 113 runs for the 4th wicket with Axar getting to a half-century as well before getting out. However, Delhi only went ballistic from thereon with Tristan Stubbs smashing 26 runs off just 7 balls and Pant hitting four maximums in the final over to stay unbeaten on 88 and take his side to a huge score.

SIX! That's gone all the way as well! What a sensational finish from Rishabh Pant! Short in length, yet again a predictable one from Mohit. Rishabh Pant shuffles a bit to the off stump and pulls it over deep square leg for a biggie! 31 runs off the last over and Rishabh remains unbeaten on 88, and Delhi finish high on 224.

19.56

SIX! Go fetch that says Pant and this has been some destruction! Another juicy full toss on off, Rishabh Pant simply picks it up over long on and deposits into the stands.

19.46

SIX! Absolutely smoked that over the ropes! A predictable slower short-pitched delivery on the off stump line, Rishabh Pant stands in the crease, swivels across and pulls it over deep fine leg for a huge maximum. This is the 700th six of this year's Indian T20 league.

19.34

FOUR! He's found the gap again! Very wide of off, full toss again, Rishabh Pant reaches to it and throws his bat before slicing it flat through backward point for a boundary. Rishabh Pant is down on his knee after completing the shot!

19.26

SIX! Absolute ballistic! Full toss right on the stumps, Rishabh Pant doesn't time the ball quite well but manages to clear the ropes at widish long on. Shahrukh Khan miscalculates his jump and the ball sails through his hands for a maximum. Brings up the 200-mark for Delhi.

19.21wd

WIDE! On a shade fuller length, way outside off, Rishabh Pant looks to get closer to the ball but lets it go. Wide given.

19.12

Slower, fuller, outside off, Rishabh Pant waits for an eternity and extracts power by driving it through covers. Sai Kishore slides to his left and saves a certain boundary by restricting it to just a couple of runs.

SIX! A much-needed acceleration for Delhi! Quicker through the air, but right into the hitting zone on the stumps, Tristan Stubbs clears his front leg and creates a strong base before depositing the ball behind long on for a six. 22 runs from the penultimate over and Delhi are on the brink of 200 here.

18.54

FOUR! Absolute carnage from the man in form! Gee, he's strong! Kishore again goes wide of off, keeps it full, Tristan Stubbs cashes on the width and powerfully slaps it through covers for a boundary. No chance at all for the two converging fielders to even get near to it.

18.46

SIX! Go fetch that says Stubbs! In front of off, straighter and fuller, Tristan Stubbs clears his front leg and clears the deep mid-wicket rope for a six.

18.34

FOUR! Powerful shot that! Slower, outside off, full in length, Tristan Stubbs waits and spanks it through covers for a boundary.

18.21

Full, on the pads, Rishabh Pant mistimes his slog and hits toward deep backward square leg for one.

18.11

Slower through the air, outside off on a fuller length, Tristan Stubbs leans on the ball and drives it along the spin and along the grass for a single at deep extra cover.

Surprising move from Shubman Gill as he tosses the ball to the left-arm finger spinner, Sai Kishore directly in the 19th over. Tough ask for the bowler but it could turn out to be a game-changing move.

Slowish back of a length ball around off, Rishabh Pant bends low and waits, and pulls it getting a hand off the bat toward deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs. Rashid Khan does well with the timely slide as he sprints to his left from deep square leg and cuts the ball before the ropes, saving a certain boundary. Another expensive over from Mohit. 14 runs from this over.

17.50

On a length, just around off, Rishabh Pant stands deep inside the crease, swings hard but meets thin air this time.

17.46

SIX! A roaring FIFTY for the Delhi skipper! A juicy full toss on off from around the wicket, Rishabh Pant simply picks the bones out of it by lifting it and depositing it over deep mid-wicket.

17.31

A bit full in length, on off, Tristan Stubbs covers his off stump and gets ahead, and drives it through cover for a single.

17.24

FOUR! Look at that! The guy brimming with confidence! Slow, on a length on the middle, Tristan Stubbs studies the pace well and waits before flat-batting it towards deep mid-wicket for a cracking four.

17.11

Over the wicket, full, and on off, Rishabh Pant punches it down the ground for a single at long on.

OUT! TAKEN! A desperate wicket for Gujarat and Noor Ahmad has the last laugh! Lands it right in front of the stumps on a fuller length, Axar Patel again slogs it in the air, but this time the shot is flat and not really timed well. It carries straight towards long on where Sai Kishore takes a comfortable catch. But a brilliant innings from Axar. He was promoted to number 3 and has quite well done his job for his team.

16.56

SIX! What a tremendous hitting! Drops it again in the arc, on off, Axar Patel again gets down on his knee and tonks it straight down the ground for another six.

16.46

SIX! What a shot! Looped up on the fuller length, around middle and off, Axar Patel sits down and swipes it with the slog over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.

FOUR! Rashid Khan with a classic shot! Full and outside off, Rashid stays deep and shuffles across before whipping it helicopter-like towards cow corner for a boundary.

OUT!

That is such good death bowling from Mukesh Kumar. Full and outside off, right in the blockhole, Rashid Khan can only jam it out on the off side for a single.

OUT!

17.24

FOUR! At the moment, there are no fielders as per David Miller. Goes for the yorker at the toes but Miller is well deep in his crease and clears the front leg before whipping it away through backward square leg for a boundary.

17.11

PUT DOWN! Abishek Porel drops a crucial catch and at a crucial time as well. This is bowled short over middle and around waist-height. Rashid Khan pulls it hard and flat but straight towards deep square leg where Porel comes in a bit and spills the catch. A single is taken and giving Rashid a life at this stage could be a huge miss.

Comes from over the wicket and goes full at the legs, Miller flicks it away well in front of deep mid-wicket but Shai Hope covers good ground and dives across to save a couple of runs. Can Miller do what Marcus Stoinis did last night? 49 needed now off 18 balls.

16.14

FOUR! David Miller just has to go for it now and he starts off well. Fractionally short over middle, Miller gets in position early and pulls it in front of square for a one-bounce boundary.

Strategic Break! Gujarat is in deep trouble here as they have lost quick wickets in succession in the mid-overs. And with the latest dismissal of Rahul Tewatia, things are doing south for them at the moment, with the asking rate zooming up dramatically with every delivery. David Miller is still at the crease but he needs a partner at the other end to do the job. Delhi on the other hand, has done quite well with Rasikh Dar taking two absolutely crucial wickets along with Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel dominating the phase. Gujarat are still in the hunt of 73 runs off the last 24 deliveries and will require a miraculous innings from the finishers to get home. Rashid Khan is in at number 8.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Another sharp catch by Rishabh Pant behind the stumps and Kuldeep Yadav ends his spell with a huge wicket. Kuldeep bowls this one quite short and pushes it wide of the off stump, Rahul Tewatia goes chasing after it and doesn't quite keep his shape as he goes for the cut and gets an edge. Pant with some quick glove work pouches it nicely to his left and Kuldeep gets another wicket off a rather nothing delivery but he won't mind as Delhi get Tewatia for a low score.

The Impact Player, Sai Sudharsan walks in at number 3 as Sandeep Warrier is taken off by Gujarat.

OUT! TAKEN! Shubman Gill is in disarray and so is Gujarat as they lose their in-form skipper cheaply! Anrich Nortje cannons this one on a fuller length, and keeps the line in the channel of off, Shubman Gill is late on the shot as he tries to clear the 30-yard circle over mid off. He gets it off the bottom end of the blade and the ball carries straight into the hands of Axar Patel stationed at mid off. An early impact from Anrich Nortje and he gets his 150th T20 wicket.

18.11

OUT!

16.46

SIX! What a shot! Looped up on the fuller length, around middle and off, Axar Patel sits down and swipes it with the slog over deep mid-wicket for a maximum.

16.20

Good length, outside off, this is punched to covers off the back foot.

On the middle stump line and full in length, Axar Patel skips down the track to loft it over the ropes but inside edges as he loses his shape. The ball rolls to backward square leg for a single. 100-run stand comes up between these two southpaws!

Strategic break! Well, well! This has been some recovery from Delhi and the pair of Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant have added an unbeaten 99-run stand so far. With four overs left and the likes of Tristan Stubbs and Abishek Porel still in the sheds, expect Delhi to go full throttle in a bid to surpass the 190-run mark. Gujarat need wickets and their trump card, Mohit Sharma hasn't been able to get in the game. Can Gujarat get back and peg Delhi back? Let's find out.

Sandeep Warrier steams in and bowls it short at the body of the batter, Prithvi Shaw uses quick hands and latches onto the pull in a flash. Shaw hits it hard and flat over square leg but Noor comes charging in from the deep and puts a big dive forward to take the catch, millimeters above the ground and as the replays show, he had fingers underneath the ball and was in control of the catch as well. Warrier with a double whammy to hand Gujarat the advantage here. Both Delhi openers are back to the sheds in the span of just three balls.

Is that a fair catch? The TV Umpire has been summoned to check it. It is a fair delivery. Noor Ahmad comes forward from the ropes and dives ahead to take the catch. The question is whether he has picked the ball before the grass. The TV Umpire confirms that his fingers are underneath the ball and it is deemed as a fair catch. OUT appears on the giant screen!

The bell has rung and we are all in readiness for this clash to commence! The two Umpires walk out to the middle and are followed by the two openers of Delhi, Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser-McGurk. Gujarat fielders can be seen in the last-minute huddle near the ropes before dispersing out to their respective fielding positions. Azmatullah Omarzai has the new ball and will bowl the first over. Let's play...

Tristan Stubbs is down for a flash interview. He says it's been really enjoyable to contribute to the team and says that the wickets also have been good to bat on and the way guys are playing, he says he just tries to keep up with them. Adds that he has always tried to take the game on and this is a completely different level overall. Further mentions he is trying to express himself in the middle and take calculated risks. Adds that they have got to win this game and also win every game from here, and they are going to come out and fight hard by making every opportunity count.

Delhi's skipper, Rishabh Pant says that it is a good toss to lose and they were looking to bat first anyway. Adds that the only chat they had was to keep things simple and there have been ups and downs but it is important to keep things simple. Mentions that this wicket looks a bit slower than the last one and hopefully, the dew doesn't come in like the last game. Ends by informing that Shai Hope comes in for David Warner and Sumit Kumar comes in for Lalit Yadav.

Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat elects to BOWL first. He begins by saying that it looks like a good wicket and they have been chasing well. On being asked about playing his 100th game, he says it's a special feeling and he has come a long way, and there's a long way to go ahead as well. Says it's important for them to be focused and be in a good mental space irrespective of the results. Informs that they are going with the same side.

PITCH REPORT - Natalie Germanos and Deep Dasgupta are at the 22 yards. Natalie starts by informing about the dimensions of the ground saying it's 63 meters and 62 meters long on the squares and 72 meters down the ground. Deep Dasgupta joins her and says the grass on the track seems to be a bit patchy and it is dried and rolled in as well, but also tells that there are areas where there's no grass at all. Reckons that the pitch will do better under the lights and states that it is still a good surface to bat on. Further adds there might be a little variable swing and bounce depending on where the ball lands. Adds that the spinners might also get a bit of assistance in the first innings. Ends up by saying a lot of hard work has been put up by the curators and reiterates that it's a really good surface to bat.

Gujarat on the other hand got back to winning ways in their previous against Punjab and that game was a low-scoring thriller. Their batting really needs to step up as they almost made a medal of a small target of 144 runs and were all out for 89 runs in the game prior to that against the same opposition they face in this game. Can Gujarat string back-to-back wins and make their claim for a top-four spot stronger? Or will Delhi bounce back and keep their playoff hopes alive with a home win? We shall find out. Toss and team news in a bit.

Delhi come into this game on the back of another horrific performance with the ball and it has been really frustrating as they have bowled pretty well in a few games and have gotten smashed in others. They need more from their pacers and the top order too needs to be more consistent. Skipper Rishabh Pant has been their most consistent player and there have been individuals like Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tristan Stubbs and Kuldeep Yadav who have done well but if they can play well as a team, they have the players to beat any opposition.

Hello and a warm welcome to one and all! We are at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for Match 40 of the 2024 Indian T20 League and it is the reverse fixture between Delhi and Gujarat. The last time these two teams met was exactly a week ago in Ahmedabad where Delhi bowled Gujarat out for just 89 runs and registered a comprehensive win. Gujarat will hope to turn the tide and get revenge whereas Delhi will have their eyes on doing the double over their opponents.

... MATCH DAY ...

As the Indian T20 League approaches its crucial stages, the intensity amplifies with each passing game, particularly among the teams jostling for position in the mid-table clutter. Now, all eyes turn to match number 40 of this season, where Delhi plays host to Gujarat at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium. With both teams hungry for victory and eager to solidify their positions in the standings, anticipation runs high for yet another exhilarating clash. Delhi's recent journey in the Indian T20 League has been a rollercoaster ride. After a resounding away victory against Gujarat, where they dismantled the hosts for a mere 89 runs, Delhi's confidence was sky-high. However, their momentum took a hit in the subsequent game against Hyderabad, where their bowlers were put under immense pressure and conceded a staggering 266 runs. Despite a valiant effort with the bat, led by Jake Fraser-McGurk, Rishabh Pant and Abishek Porel the inconsistent performance throughout the batting order proved to be their downfall in the chase. Rishabh Pant and his team have managed to swiftly turn things around after a tough start, securing victories in two out of their last three matches but with just 6 more games to go Delhi will need to harness their collective strengths, particularly in the bowling department ensuring they get back to winning ways before time runs out. Gujarat's campaign in this season has been a mixed bag, with four wins from their eight outings so far. In their recent clash against Punjab, they emerged victorious and now will be determined to carry that winning momentum forward as they face Delhi, seeking redemption from their previous defeat. However, Gujarat's journey has been marked by inconsistency, both with the bat and the ball. While individual performances have shone sporadically, the team is still searching for match-winning displays from key players. Amidst the inconsistency, skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan have emerged as reliable performers, providing stability in the batting lineup. The resurgence of Rahul Tewatia as a finisher adds a significant boost to the team's prospects, but more is expected from their potent batting lineup. On the bowling front, Gujarat have struggled to produce standout performances, with even Rashid Khan yet to rediscover his lethal best. While Mohit Sharma has shown glimpses of promise, the overall bowling unit has lacked the necessary intent and consistency. With crucial matches on the horizon, Gujarat will know the importance of tightening up their bowling attack and will aim to rectify their shortcomings and put forth a collective effort to secure a crucial victory in their quest for playoff contention. With a lot at stake, who do you think will get those two crucial points? We shall soon find out.
