Right then, that is it from this absolute nail-biter where Kolkata just managed to pip Bengaluru and do the double over them. The action doesn't stop here as we have a double-header. Punjab is taking on Gujarat in the second game and you can just switch tabs to enjoy all our coverage of that match. Cheers!

Andre Russell is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning all-round performance especially his spell with the ball. He says that he always backs his bowling and is happy to contribute with the ball. Tells that when he was batting change-ups were difficult to hit and he tried to use the slower cutters that were gripping and got him the rewards. Mentions that his over with two wickets and the other two in Narine's over changed the momentum. Says that he is happy with the win and at the death, he knew that DK would be trying to be on strike and tried to use the variations that worked for him in this game.

Shreyas Iyer the victorious skipper of Kolkata says that games like these take a lot off the body and is tough to stay calm but he is happy to have been on the winning end. Adds that Andre Russell got them those two wickets and completely changed the momentum of the game and it all comes down to individuals taking responsibility. Mentions that with 18 runs off the last over, the bowler is under pressure and one six here and there can change the momentum of the game towards the batter and they will have a lot of such challenges in the future which they will have to execute well and be prepared. Talks about his knock and says he wanted to stay till the end after those back-to-back wickets and they managed to get a few boundaries and the batters on the other side helped him rotate strike which makes him happy.

Faf du Plessis, the captain of Bengaluru says that it was crazy and rules are rules and there will always be one team that is happy while the other will not, and in the end the over from Sunil Narine where they got two wickets was crucial for them. Mentions that it all comes down to little moments and if the decision-making could've been clearer in the middle but is proud of how the boys played and showed character with them being ahead at the halfway stage in the chase. Mentions that they are desperate and the guys were putting their bodies on the line and it is 10 on 10 for the effort and the unbelievable support they get all across the country and they look forward to making them feel better.

Harshit Rana is down for a quick chat. He says the plan was to bowl slower and they executed that right. Adds that he tries to keep himself cool and not think a lot about the results and focus on the execution. Concludes that it was an intense game and it's hard to describe the feeling in that final over.

Earlier in the game, Kolkata posted a good total on the board courtesy of a fine fifty from skipper Shreyas Iyer along with two fiery knocks from Phil Salt and Ramandeep Singh at the beginning and the death respectively. In the middle overs, Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, and Andre Russell also contributed well. Cameron Green was the pick of the bowlers for Bengaluru with a couple of wickets while Yash Dayal also got two. Lockie Ferguson and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with one each while Karn Sharma was very economical. While chasing, even after losing two big wickets at the start, Bengaluru were in control of the chase but let it go in the middle over. They managed to stay in it till the very end but had to leave Eden Gardens empty-handed and with a broken hear as they remained rock bottom of the league.

Kolkata, on the other hand, were taken apart once again in the Powerplay but still managed to get the two big wickets of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. However, after that they gave a lot of runs as Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar looked unstoppable. Shreyas Iyer decided to give the ball to Dre Russ who came in and got rid of both of them in the same over. Sunil Narine then took over and got a couple more to change the momentum again. Suyash Sharma came in as the Impact Player but was very expensive but Varun Chakaravarthy was decent and chipped in with one. Harshit Rana and Andre Russell bowled a couple of excellent overs at the death and got the big wicket of Suyash Prabhudessai and DK. Mitchell Starc had to defend 20 in the last over but the pressure was on him and it showed when Karn Sharma went all-out attack. However, Starc kept his calm and took a stunning catch on the follow-through on the second last ball, and then Phil Salt showed good athleticism on the last ball to run out Lockie Ferguson to win the match by a solitary run.

Bengaluru needed a quick start and Virat Kohli provided that with a few lusty blows before getting dismissed controversially but it was the right call. Skipper Faf du Plessis went back soon after which pushed them on the back foot. However, Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar took matters into their own hands and went berserk in the middle overs and countered the spin attack of Kolkata brilliantly. The momentum was on their side with the 102-run partnership, but then they lost both set batters Jacks and Patidar in the same over after reaching their half-centuries. Then Cameron Green and Mahipal Lomror also got out in the same over but they were still in touch with the asking rate which was a positive. DK and Suyash Prabhudessai took the game close but they had to depart and in the end, it was Karn Sharma who struck three sixes in the last over but unfortunately could not finish the job for his team and they had to suffer a heartbreak.

MY WORD, WHAT A GAME OF CRICKET! No one knew where it would go till the last ball but Mitchell Starc and Kolkata have held their nerves to win by just a run. The pendulum swung both ways and at one point it looked like Bengaluru would cruise through this chase but the home side pulled things back nicely in the middle phase. Who knew that Karn Sharma would hit three sixes against Starc in the last over, but it was again so near, yet so far for Bengaluru.

OUT! RUN OUT! Can you believe it? A terrible throw back at the keeper's end but Phil Salt does exceptionally well to claw the game back as Kolkata wins this nail-biter of a game by just 1 run. Mitchell Starc bowls this full and just outside off, Lockie Ferguson digs it well to deep cover and sets off for the second run. Ramandeep Singh collects the ball well but throws it wildly past the keeper at the striker's end. Despite the errant throw, Phil Salt swiftly reacts, retrieving the ball and executing a lightning-quick dive to knock the stumps down with Lockie Ferguson well short of his crease.

Lockie Ferguson is the last man in. He needs to hit a boundary to win the game. A two will tie the game and we will go to a Super Over.

19.5W

OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Mitchell Starc has pulled off a fabulous catch to bring back Kolkata in the game! What an innings this has been from Karn Sharma but he has to walk back with Bengaluru needing 3 off the last ball. Starc steams from over the wicket and with pace on bowls the fuller delivery on middle and leg, Karn Sharma gets deceived by pace and just chops it back really low towards the right of Mitchell Starc who gets down and takes a clean catch.

19.46

SIX! Karn Sharma you beauty! Three in the over and Bengaluru fans believe! Starc misses the line and bowls it wider on off on a fuller length, Karn Sharma cuts it uppishly over point for half a dozen more.

19.36

SIX! Oh dear, Karn Sharma has titled this game back on its head and it can go anywhere from here. Mitchell Starc bowls this full and outside off again, Karn Sharma plants his front leg out and whips it over cover for a maximum.

19.20

An appeal for caught behind and the umpire turns it down. Shreyas Iyer sends it upstairs for a review. Starc bowls this full and outside off, Karn Sharma looks for the slice yet again but seems to have gotten a faint edge into the keeper's gloves. The replays roll in and the UltraEdge confirm there was a spike as the ball passed the bat. The third umpire also looks to reconfirm if it was a clean take behind the stumps and it shows that the ball brushed the grass as Phil Salt picks it up. The onfield call stays as NOT OUT!

19.16

SIX! How well has he connected that one? Mitchell Starc looks for the wide yorker and ends up bowling this right in the slot, outside off, Karn Sharma slices it over point for a maximum.

Mohammed Siraj comes out to the middle now. Mitchell Starc to bowl the last over. He has conceded 36 runs in his two overs and now needs to defend 20 runs.

Dinesh Karthik holes out and Bengaluru slips further down.  Andre Russell drops the length short and angles it down leg, with no pace, Dinesh Karthik gets across the line and looks to pull it over short fine but is way too early on the shot. He ends up chopping it up and to left of the keeper who settles under it and takes a simple catch.

18.20

Nails the yorker right does Andre Russell! Bowls this full and into the pads, Dinesh Karthik looks to flick but misses out.

18.10

Bangs the deck on a length and takes the pace off, Dinesh Karthik is too early on the pull and misses out. The ball clips him high on the back and rolls over to short third.

Gautam Gambhir is having a chat about something with the umpire. It looks like Sunil Narine went off the field but the umpires are saying that he will need to be on for the last couple of overs. Also, Andre Russell to bowl the penultimate over. He has conceded 15 runs in his two overs and picked up two wickets as well.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The two umpires make their way to the middle followed by the Kolkata players who are taking the field. It will be Virat Kohli along with Faf du Plessis to open the innings for Bengaluru. Harshit Rana has the new ball in hand and will start the proceedings for Kolkata. Away we go..

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Bengaluru endured a challenging start as their bowlers struggled to find their lines, bearing the brunt of Phil Salt's aggressive onslaught early on. However, Mohammed Siraj, making his return to the side, provided some respite by bowling tightly and eventually dismissing the dangerous Salt. Yash Dayal then made an immediate impact, claiming two wickets in his second over to further halt Kolkata's momentum. Cameron Green added to Bengaluru's fightback by snaring another crucial wicket, tipping the scales back to balance. Kolkata managed to maintain their scoring rate, thanks to their aggressive approach even in the face of losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Bengaluru's death bowling woes resurfaced as they struggled to contain the flow of runs, conceding a flurry of boundaries in the final overs, allowing Kolkata to amass those crucial extra 20-25 runs, which could prove decisive in the outcome of the match. With a daunting target of 223 runs to chase down, Bengaluru's hopes rest heavily on their openers to provide a solid foundation. Can they rise to the occasion and keep their contention alive this season? Or will Kolkata's determined bowling unit ensure they defend their substantial total and return to winning ways? We shall soon find out as the chase comes to you in a bit.

Ramandeep Singh is down for a quick chat. He says that he just wants to back himself and luckily it went well in this game. Adds that the off-pace deliveries are hard to hit and that is what they are going to try. Credits Abhishek Nayar for his batting role and says that their practice sessions are like match situations and that helps him to play accordingly.

A quickfire 43-run partnership between Ramandeep Singh and Andre Russell has catapulted Kolkata's total to a formidable 222 runs at the conclusion of the first innings. After being put in to bat first, Kolkata got off to an explosive start courtesy of Phil Salt, who launched into the Bengaluru bowlers from the outset. While Sunil Narine struggled to find his timing, Salt compensated with a barrage of attacking strokes, keeping the scoreboard ticking despite occasional dot balls at the other end. Just as the opening pair appeared set to dominate, Salt perished, triggering a flurry of wickets that dented Kolkata's momentum, leaving them at 75/3 at the conclusion of the powerplay. Amidst the fall of wickets, skipper Shreyas Iyer provided a stabilizing presence and crafted a crucial half-century to anchor the innings. However, it was a late surge by Ramandeep Singh who with his 24 runs off 9 balls along with Andre Russell propelled Kolkata to a formidable total of 222 runs, providing them with a strong platform to defend in the subsequent innings.

We are back for the chase! The two umpires make their way to the middle followed by the Kolkata players who are taking the field.

The two umpires make their way out to the middle followed by the Bengaluru players who spread out to take their respective field positions. Phil Salt and Sunil Narine are the two openers for Kolkata. Virat Kohli jokingly gives the cap to the umpire and marks his run-up but it is not going to be him to bowl the first over. Mohammed Siraj has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

Shreyas Iyer, the captain of Kolkata says that they would have bowled first as well. Adds that it looks like the wicket will be a bit slow. Tells that they tried to keep things simple and it is not important how you start but how you end. Mentions that they need to assess the pitch and then bat accordingly to set up a target. Informs they are unchanged.

Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Bengaluru says they will bowl first. Adds that this has been a chasing ground and they look to bat second. Mentions that they were here the previous day at around the same time and the temperature sort of cooled down unlike in Chennai or Bengaluru. Bengaluru finds itself mired in a dismal start to the season, enduring the bitter taste of defeat in six out of seven encounters, now entrenched in a disheartening five-game losing streak. Each match from here on is akin to a potential knockout, adding immense pressure to every play. Despite Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik consistently wielding their batting prowess, the team's bowling department remains a glaring concern. The men in red are yet to strike the right balance in their bowling lineup, a deficiency that severely undermines their prospects for qualification at the season's midpoint. The burden of revival falls heavily on the experienced shoulders of overseas stars, Reece Topley and Lockie Ferguson, tasked with conjuring match-winning spells to reignite the team's dwindling spark. As they seek to break free from their losing streak, Bengaluru will undoubtedly unleash an aggressive onslaught against the hosts. With nothing to lose, they will undoubtedly approach this crucial fixture with unwavering determination, promising yet another riveting chapter in this season's narrative. Will Bengaluru muster the strength to rewrite their story? Or will Kolkata maintain their stronghold over Bengaluru, replicating their previous victory? We shall soon find out as the Toss and team news comes to you in a bit.

Kolkata, having triumphed in their first three encounters, faced setbacks in two of their subsequent three matches, yet find themselves comfortably perched on the third spot of the points table, boasting the most impressive net run rate. Despite a recent stumble, this team radiates resilience and optimism. Their batting lineup, a bastion of strength, has consistently delivered, but it's imperative they maintain their firepower. The bowling unit, experiencing its fair share of highs and lows, will have to reclaim its peak form with lots of expectations riding on the experienced Mitchell Starc going into the second half of the season. With Bengaluru boasting a strong batting order, the onus will be on the shoulders of Kolkata's bowlers to counter the challenge effectively and turn the tide in their favour once again.

Hello and a warm welcome to all the viewers for the first match of this Super Sunday, marking the exciting match number 36 in the pulsating 17th edition of the Indian T20 League! The stage is set for two cricketing titans to lock horns in a highly anticipated clash of the season as Kolkata plays host to Bengaluru at the illustrious Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

... MATCH DAY ...

After 35 games, we are halfway through the league stage of the 17th edition of the Indian T20 League. In match number 36, Kolkata face Bengaluru at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Despite both teams coming off a defeat, Kolkata are comfortably placed in the top half of the standings, whereas Bengaluru find themselves at rock bottom. In their last outing against Rajasthan, Sunil Narine's maiden T20 century powered Kolkata to a formidable total of 223. However, it wasn't enough, as Jos Buttler's heroics took Rajasthan over the line on the last ball. As Kolkata aim to bounce back from that narrow loss, the onus will be on their pace bowling group, consisting of Mitchell Stac, Harshit Rana, and Vaibhav Arora, to step up. Sunil Narine has been exceptional not only with the bat but also with the ball, keeping things reasonably tight. Other players like Phil Salt, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Andre Russell have also made valuable contributions. The Iyers, Venkatesh, and Shreyas would want to kickstart the second half of the league stage with a big score to set them up well for the remainder of the tournament. Varun Chakaravarthy may have had a slow start to the season personally, but he has managed to contain runs effectively. On the other hand, Bengaluru has endured five consecutive winless games, and another loss might extinguish their playoff hopes. In their previous encounter against Hyderabad, Bengaluru fought valiantly while chasing a near-impossible of 288, falling short by 25 runs. Despite the defeat, Faf du Plessis rediscovered his form, and Dinesh Karthik's clean ball-striking was the positive for Bengaluru. While Virat Kohli has been consistent for his team, overreliance on him has contributed to their current position in the competition. With Glenn Maxwell taking a break to focus on his mental health, Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks will need to step up with the bat. Despite changes in the bowling unit, not much improved for Faf du Plessis' side, as they conceded the highest total in Indian T20 League history. The overseas pace duo of Reece Topley and Lockie Ferguson will need to use their experience effectively, while Indian domestic pacers like Yash Dayal and Vijaykumar Vyshak must also deliver. Kolkata have had the wood over Bengaluru, winning 4 of the last 5 encounters. Will they extend their dominance? Or will it be Faf du Plessis and Co. who snap their losing streak? We will find out soon enough.
