Commentary

Right then, that is it from this game where New Zealand wrapped the series up and will have an eye on the whitewash now while Pakistan will hope to stop the hosts from doing so. The 4th T20I will be played on 19th January, Friday at 11.40 am IST (6.10 am GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Finn Allen is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his record-breaking ton.

Presentation Time...

Earlier in the game, New Zealand posted a massive total on the board courtesy of a record-breaking hundred from Finn Allen. He registered the highest individual score (137) for New Zealand in T20Is breaking the record of Brendon McCullum. In the process, he also equaled the record of the most sixes (16) in an innings in T20Is. Haris Rauf picked up a couple of wickets for Pakistan while every other bowler chipped in with one each but all of them were pretty expensive. While chasing, it was once again Babar Azam who tried his best but chasing a score of over 200 was never going to be easy, and that too without much support from the others.

New Zealand, on the other hand, will be pretty happy with their bowling effort. They had a lot of runs to play with, and their bowlers were pretty much on point right from the start. This is not an easy ground to bowl, but they stuck to their plans and kept picking up wickets at regular intervals which put more pressure on the visitors. They were shown some resistance again from Babar Azam, but once Ish Sodhi managed to get rid of him, the game was theirs. Tim Southee got a couple of wickets while the others chipped in with one each and sealed the win comfortably in the end.

Pakistan needed a quick start, but Saim Ayub was dismissed after hitting a few lusty blows. It was then the two experienced players Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam who steadied things for a bit with a 39-run stand before the former got out. There were some cameos in the middle order, but once again no one could convert their starts and failed to support Babar, who fought a lone battle, notching up his third fifty in a row. However, he too perished trying to take on the attack as the asking rate kept going up. Mohammad Nawaz played a quick-fire knock towards the end, but that was never going to be enough as they ultimately fell short by 45 runs.

NEW ZEALAND SEAL THE SERIES! Another dominating victory for them as they take an unassailable 3-0 lead here and completely outplayed the Men in Green. However, all the talking points will be about that swash-buckling century from Finn Allen which set up this victory for the BlackCaps. Pakistan are not having a great run in this format as they have won only once in their last 8 T20Is which is not a good sign with the T20 World Cup not so far away.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The umpires are on their way in the middle. Saim Ayub and Mohammad Rizwan to open for Pakistan. Tim Southee gets the job to start with the new ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

New Zealand is undoubtedly elated at the conclusion of the first innings. Despite losing a couple of wickets, including the star performer Daryl Mitchell, after a fiery start, the onslaught by Finn Allen was unstoppable. Allen's spectacular innings of 137 runs off just 62 deliveries not only propelled New Zealand to the highest score ever at the venue but also set new records for the highest T20I score and the most individual sixes in an innings for the Kiwis, with 16 massive hits. With such a commanding performance, New Zealand find themselves in a dominant position and will now aim to secure victory and clinch the series as they come out to bowl. Can New Zealand finish off in style, or will Pakistan mount a comeback and put on a show in the chase? The stage is set for an intriguing second innings.

Finn Allen is up for a chat. He says, it is a competitive total for the boys and it's hard to cross the line. He continued saying they have kept it simple and it's the same game plan which worked. He also said about the conversation with Shaheen that they had a deal before that Shaheen wouldn't bowl bumper to him but he bowled any so they were having some banter with him. He also enjoyed having the partnership with Tim. He ends up saying they have to keep it simple in the second innings to get a positive result.

Despite winning the toss and opting to bowl, Pakistan's bowling performance seemed to lose its edge as they struggled to find the right lines and lengths. While Mohammad Wasim and Zaman Khan delivered notable spells, the duo of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf faced the brunt of Finn Allen and Tim Seifert's aggressive batting after the early dismissal of Devon Conway. The late breakthroughs, dismissing Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman, and Mitchell Santner provided some relief for Pakistan, but the damage had already been done. As they prepare to chase, Pakistan's powerful batting lineup, yet to find its rhythm in the series will be eager to turn the tide in this crucial match.

The first innings has come to a close, and what a spectacle it has been so far. New Zealand end at 224/7. It was Finn Allen written all over for his extraordinary batting performance, which made batting look utterly effortless.

However, the replay shows that Santner is well short of his crease. Also, Matt Henry walks up into the ground next for New Zealand.

Shaheen Afridi to bowl the last over. Also, Pakistan are allowed only three fielders outside the circle due to slow over rate.

New Zealand (Playing XI) - Finn Allen (In place of Kane Williamson), Devon Conway, Tim Seifert (WK), Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner (C), Ish Sodhi, Matt Henry (In place of Adam Milne), Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson (In place of Ben Sears)..

Pakistan (Playing XI) - Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Azam Khan (WK), Mohammad Nawaz (In place of Usama Mir), Shaheen Afridi (C), Mohammad Wasim (In place of Aamer Jamal), Haris Rauf, Zaman Khan (In place of Abbas Afridi).

TOSS - Pakistan have won the toss and they elected to BOWL first.

.On the other hand, Pakistan haven't won a single T20 match against the Kiwis since April 2023. The team has to buckle up and pull up their socks as they need to win today's match by hook or by crook if they want to win the series. They need to re-strategize and come up with something that the Kiwis will not be expecting. In the last match, Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman anchored the match and were on their way to pull out the match by having a partnership of 87 runs in just 49 deliveries but Zaman's dismissal crashed the hopes of the Pakistani fans. But Babar Azam is the only batter from his team who has opposed the Kiwi's blowing attack and scored 57 in the first match and 66 in the other, but it wasn't enough to win the match. The bowlers were also tacking wickets but were too expensive through their innings. Will Pakistan win this match and make a statement of a comeback in the series? Or the Kiwis will seal the deal for them? Let's find out! Tosses and team updates are on the way.

New Zealand are on their way to win the series at home as they have won twice against the Men in Green and if they win this match, it will be done and dusted. The Kiwis have been just exceptional in the last two games. They were able to score big on the board and twice their opposition failed to chase it down. Finn Allen and Daryl Mitchell are in good shape to stroke big and they will be on mark. Tim Southee and Adam Milne need to continue their form if they want to rest the case in this game itself.

Hello and welcome everyone for tuning in as we built up to Match No. 3 of this five-match T20I series where New Zealand takes on Pakistan at the University Oval in Dunedin. The weather is pretty clear and the Kiwis will want to wrap things up here while the visitors will hope to stay alive in the series.

... MATCH DAY ...

The scenic University Oval at Dunedin awaits another exciting clash between New Zealand and Pakistan for the 3rd T20I of this five-match series. New Zealand have performed comprehensively in the first two games and have perfectly used their home advantage. After beating the tourists by 21 runs in the second match, the Kiwis have taken the lead by 2-0 in the series. Everyone witnessed a juggernaut from Finn Allen in the second game and some handy knocks by their batting order. But, their evergreen batter Kane Williamson, who made a brilliant comeback for the Blackcaps, has been struck with another injury and has put his participation in the next match in doubt. He has been marred with a streak of injuries for a year and a half and has missed a large chunk of cricket already. Although their batting is firing on all cylinders with Finn Allen and Daryl Mitchell in top-notch form, they will look forward to doing so in the remainder of the series as they have the momentum on their side. Even their bowling has produced timely wickets with Tim Southee, Ben Sears, and Adam Milne who picked a brilliant 4-fer in the previous game. As for Pakistan, their equation is simple - win all the remaining matches and take the series, which, looks like a steep slope to climb. But they are hit with inconsistencies in their batting order, relying heavily on Babar Azam, the highest run-getter of the series so far, and with some contributions from the experienced southpaw Fakhar Zaman in the previous match. Their middle order was exposed yet again as they kept losing wickets in a jiffy. And the kind of pace attack that Pakistan boasts with the likes of Shaheen Afridi and youngsters Aamer Jamal and Usama Mir, has been pretty underwhelming and expensive with Haris Rauf and Abbas Afridi being decent contributors. They need to up their overall game including the fielding department. Regarding the ground records, this venue has hosted only two T20Is previously and witnessed the Kiwis emerging victorious both times. So, with a tremendous home record, New Zealand will aim to seal the series at Dunedin and Pakistan will try to bounce back strongly.
