That is it from this game and what a game we have had to kick off a new week in the 2023 Indian T20 League. Cricketing action will continue in the league on Tuesday, the 11th of April, with the only two teams yet to win a game squaring off against each other. It will be Delhi going up against Mumbai at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in a high-octane encounter. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but our build-up, as usual, will begin in advance. Cheers!

Nicholas Pooran is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his sensational match-winning knock of 62 runs from 19 balls. He starts by thanking the Almighty and dedicates this win to his wife and his newborn. He says that the partnership with KL Rahul was wonderful and adds that the knock by Marcus Stoinis kept them in the game. Mentions that it was a good wicket and feels that it was all about cashing in and executing the skills. States that it was a matter of having a look and reacting if the ball was in his slot. Ends by saying that he is in a good state of mind this year and wants to enjoy his cricket.

The Lucknow skipper, KL Rahul says that it was an incredible finish and adds that he has grown up playing on the ground and he knows that no other ground can produce last-ball chases like this one. Mentions that they lost early wickets but managed to stay on and credits Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran for the way they played and it is because of them that they have two points in the bag. On his own form, he says that it is not ideal and when he scores more runs, the strike rate also goes up and he should have tried to build a stand with Nicholas Pooran. On the performance of the middle order, he says that most games are won by the batters batting at positions 3, 4, and 5 and that is why they have invested in such powerful hitters like Stoinis and Pooran and also goes on to applaud the effort of Ayush Badoni as well.

The Presentation ceremony...

One of the stars with the bat for Lucknow, Marcus Stoinis is in for a chat. He says that it was a beautiful pitch and at 20 for 3, the need was to attack. Shares that it is good to contribute as Lucknow are a new and young franchise and had not won away from home this season. Feels that they bowled well in the Powerplay and adds that the spinners did a good job as well. Credits Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli for the way they batted. Ends by saying that 200 was a par score at this venue and it was important to get off to a good start.

Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Bangalore, starts by saying that he is disappointed but credits Lucknow for the way they played. Adds that his side fought back beautifully. Mentions that the batting during the middle overs was a bit slow but towards the end, the ball came on nicely onto the bat. Feels that they tried everything they could and it was unfortunate that one of their stronger bowlers Harshal Patel was taken on at the start of his spell. Adds that he did fight back well. Mentions that this is a difficult venue to bowl at the death and have to be on top of the game. Also says that he was struggling for the most part of his innings and was happy to give the strike back to Virat Kohli. Ends by saying that he got his flow back after getting a few shots from the middle of the bat.

Earlier in the game, KL Rahul put Bangalore into bat first but the opening pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis took the bull by the horns and were rampant from the get-go. However, they never got too far away with the run rate and the Lucknow spinners pulled things back really well in the middle phase. It was then some blitz from Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis in the last 5 overs that got Bangalore back on track and well over the 200-run mark. Mark Wood was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow but the likes of Amit Mishra and Krunal Pandya too bowled decently. Coming to the chase, it went one way then the other and then swung back and forth a couple of times more before eventually, Lucknow got over the line on the final ball and that too in dramatic fashion.

Bangalore will be gutted to have ended up on the losing side in this game as they were well in control of things out there. Mohammed Siraj started things off with an early wicket that was followed by a double strike from Wayne Parnell and along with David Willey, the pace trio kept their side on top of things. Things though changed after the Powerplay and their bowlers were taken to the cleaners. The likes of Harshal Patel, Karn Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed couldn't do much but they did get back in the game with two quick wickets. They failed to capitalize and Nicholas Pooran punished them duly. Siraj bowled another top over at the death and got rid of Pooran as well but by then, the required rate was too low and Lucknow were just a boundary or two away from victory.

Lucknow had the daunting task of chasing down 213 runs and got off to the worst start possible as Kyle Mayers fell in the very first over. Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya soon followed suit and Lucknow looked in real trouble. However, Marcus Stoinis then came in and played his best-ever knock in this league as he scored 65 runs off 30 balls before getting out. KL Rahul continued to struggle a bit for timing and fell too but then came the innings that really turned the game on its head. Nicholas Pooran smoked the ball to all parts of the ground and went on to score 62 runs off 19 balls with ample support from Ayush Badoni at the other end. But, both of them fell too and somehow the tailenders managed to wriggle their way out of a pressure situation to seal the win.

Wow, what a game and what a finish! The Indian T20 League has given us many memorable finishes over the years and this one is right up there. The game swung like a pendulum with Bangalore looking good for the win midway through the chase and then Nicholas Pooran completely changed the landscape before Bangalore made another comeback to take it deep. In the end, though, Lucknow seal a memorable win away from home and their fans will remember it for a long, long time.

Bye and Lucknow get over the line! Harshal Patel bowls it slower and it's a low dipping full toss, just outside off, Avesh Khan has a wild swing at the ball but connects with thin air. The batters scamper across for a bye as Dinesh Karthik behind the wicket fails to gather it cleanly. This fumble allows the batters to complete the run and they set off on their celebratory run. Unreal scenes at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium! Lucknow win by 1 wicket!

Oh, what drama! Ravi Bishnoi at the non-striker's end is ready to sprint out of the blocks and Harshal Patel stops mid-way through his delivery stride to catch out Bishnoi. Patel throws it back onto the stumps and gets the direct hit and appeals. The umpire says that Patel was well through the stride and it cannot be given out and hence doesn't go upstairs.

Avesh Khan is the last man in for Lucknow.

OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Bends his back and bangs it in short on middle, Jaydev Unadkat tries to pull but the ball climbs on him. Skies this one in the air towards long on where Faf du Plessis runs forwards and completes the catch. Are we heading to a Super Over here?

19.11

Solid yorker on off, Jaydev Unadkat squeezes this one in front of mid off and scampers across for a run.

Badoni is dejected but has to depart now.

Wayne Parnell (3-0-31-2) comes back into the attack now.

Commentary

We are back for the chase. The Bangalore players make their way out to the middle. They have brought on Karn Sharma as their Impact Player in place of Anuj Rawat. KL Rahul and Kyle Mayers will open the innings for Lucknow. It will be Mohammed Siraj to start with the new ball for Bangalore. Off we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Lucknow have been set a daunting target but they will feel that they can chase this down considering the wicket and ground dimensions. Can the Lucknow batters rise to the challenge? We shall find out shortly. Back in a bit for the chase...

The man of the moment, Glenn Maxwell, is in for a flash interview. He says that it felt really better as he hasn't been able to do it for 5 months and got a bit of match rhythm in front of the home fans as well. Adds that it was a bit tiring but hopefully it helps him to regain full fitness in a couple of months. Mentions that it was keeping a bit low and was drier than usual and the Lucknow spinners bowled well. Reckons that bowling on top of the stumps is the key.

After KL Rahul called it right and opted to bowl first, Jaydev Unadkat started with the new ball and bowled a probing first over conceding only 4 runs. However, Avesh Khan could not replicate it from the other end and that allowed the opposition openers to get going. After the first strategic break, KL Rahul went with spinners from both ends and that allowed Lucknow to tighten the screws a bit. They were rewarded with the wicket of Virat Kohli and at that stage, it seemed like Lucknow will manage to pull things back. It wasn't to be as Bishnoi's 20-run over opened the floodgates once again. They were simply blown away by the onslaught from Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. Mark Wood was the pick of the bowlers for them with figures of 1 for 32 in his four overs including a maiden.

A stunning final over by Mark Wood has helped Lucknow keep Bangalore under 215. But, the damage was already done by Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell. After being sent into bat, Bangalore were off to a flying start courtesy of the opening pair. Virat Kohli in particular made his intentions clear straightaway and took on the Lucknow bowling attack. His opening partner Faf du Plessis opted to play the second fiddle by dealing in singles. The duo put on a 96-run opening stand and by doing so, set a solid base for the rest of the batting unit. After Kohli's departure, du Plessis took charge and found support in the form of Glenn Maxwell. Both batters sent the Lucknow bowlers on a leather hunt with a 115-run partnership off just 50 balls. Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell notched their respective fifties as well to help Banglore post a mammoth total on the board.

Just a single to end and it has been a terrific final over from Mark Wood, just 9 runs off it and given the circumstances, Lucknow will be happy with that. Hard length around off, Dinesh Karthik throws his hands at it but ends up slicing it through the cover region for one. Bangalore finish with 212/2 on the board!

Dinesh Karthik comes out to face the final delivery of the innings.

19.5W

OUT! BOWLED 'EM! Mark Wood switches to length and just bowls it really quick at around 150 clicks. This one is bowled around middle and angled in. Glenn Maxwell backs away and looks for the big slog across the line but is undone by the raw pace and also the inward movement off the deck. The ball beats the bat and smashes into the leg pole but Maxwell will feel he has done his job here.

19.46

SIX! Whacked away! Glenn Maxwell hangs back and waits for the short one and gets just the ideal ball to put it away. Banged in over middle, Maxwell gets inside the line and muscles it well over the square-leg fence for a biggie.

19.41wd

WIDE! Tries to bowl full and quick into the legs but spills it down leg for a wide.

19.30

Excellent bowling this! Yet another dot ball but Nicholas Pooran reckons there's a faint edge on it and urges KL Rahul to go upstairs. Rahul does review it at the last minute. UltraEdge confirms that there's no bat on it and the on-field decision stands. Coming to the delivery, it is a quick bumper over middle and leg, Glenn Maxwell backs away and looks to upper cut it but misses.

19.20

A precious dot ball! Hits the deck hard and angles it into the body. Glenn Maxwell backs away but only manages to tap it straight to the cover fielder.

19.11

Mark Wood steams in and nails a quick yorker on leg stump. Faf du Plessis backs away and digs it out through mid on for a single.

It will be Mark Wood to bowl the final over.

Full and on leg stump, Faf du Plessis slogs it off the inside edge past square leg and picks up a single. 20 off that over, another good one for Bangalore.

18.52

Another good yorker on middle and leg, Faf du Plessis manages to get it away through mid-wicket and races back for the second. Excellent running.

18.44

FOUR! Like a tracer bullet! Full and wide, not finding the blockhole and Faf du Plessis just slaps this one a bit uppishly and wide of cover for a boundary. The 200 is also up for Bangalore.

18.31

Gets in the yorker this time at the stumps, Glenn Maxwell jams it out in front of mid-wicket for a single. The 100-run stand is also up between these two off just 44 balls.

18.26

SIX! Back-to-back maximums and that will be FIFTY for Glenn Maxwell, what a sublime inning this has been from the 'Big Show!' Banged in this time and well outside off, Maxwell stands tall and reaches out before lifting it over the cover-point fence for a biggie.

18.16

SIX! Thumped! Avesh Khan serves it in the slot again around middle and Glenn Maxwell just stays deep in his crease before chipping it right back over the bowler's head for a maximum.

17.61wd

WIDE! Tries to go full and wide but spills it beyond the tramline, called a wide.

17.56

SIX! Juicy full toss from Jaydev Unadkat and Faf du Plessis has dealt with it. Glenn Maxwell at the other end reckons that it is above waist height and Bangalore take the review. The replays show that the ball is clearly under waist height and it will be a fair delivery. Coming to the delivery, it is served on the leg stump and Faf smokes it a long way over the mid-wicket fence for a huge hit.

17.46

SIX! Clean strike! Pitched up right in the slot around leg stump, Faf du Plessis clears the front leg and smokes it over the long on fence for a biggie.

17.31

DROPPED! Krunal Pandya completely loses his balance around the boundary ropes and spills the catch. Full and wide again from Jaydev Unadkat, Glenn Maxwell deliberately opens the face of the blade and lifts it wide of third man. Pandya there runs to his right and overruns it a bit but manages to get both hands on it. The ball pops out of his hands and a single is taken.

17.24

FOUR! Streaky but will do! Full and wide outside off, Glenn Maxwell stays leg side of the ball but manages to reach out and edges it down to third man for a boundary.

17.11

A friendly full toss on leg stump, Faf du Plessis crouches a bit and short-arm jabs it on the bounce to the man at deep mid-wicket for a single.

16.51

Length delivery on off, Ayush Badoni shuffles and knocks it down to long on for a single.

Nicholas Pooran is in for a quick chat. He says that they are off to a decent start in the tournament and the time with Lucknow has been amazing so far. Informs that Wayne Parnell comes in to strengthen the pace attack and Mahipal Lomror comes in as well and will bat at number 3.

KL Rahul, the skipper of Lucknow, says that they will bowl first and they are just going by the history of the ground and it is generally a chasing ground. ... MATCH DAY ...

It is now time for match number 15 in the Indian T20 League, 2023, which sees Bangalore host Lucknow at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Bangalore come into this game on the back of a crushing defeat against Kolkata in their last outing. After opting to bowl first and reducing the opposition to 89-5, they ended up conceding 204 runs in their bowling effort. In their pursuit of a mammoth total, they could never get going and were bundled out for 123, losing by a massive margin of 81 runs. For Bangalore, the experienced duo of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli has done well at the top, but they will require support from Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik. The bowling unit did take a beating in the last game, but Karn Sharma and David Willey have been the positives in their respective departments. The bowling at the death has been a real headache for them and Bangalore need to fix this issue before it starts to haunt them. On the flip side, having suffered a loss against Chennai, Lucknow bounced back and got the better of Hyderabad in their previous encounter. In that game, bowling first, their spinners ruled the roost and restricted the opposition to 121. Their batters backed it up with a clinical chasing effort and got Lucknow over the line with four overs to spare. Kyle Mayers has been the standout batter for them, with KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya chipping in with handy contributions across the three games. Mark Wood and Ravi Bishnoi have been the star performers with the ball, and they have been well-complemented by the spin duo of Krunal Pandya and Amit Mishra. In the two meetings between the two sides during the 2022 edition of the Indian T20 League, Bangalore emerged victorious on both occasions. Will Bangalore continue their dominance over Lucknow? Or will it be Lucknow to hand Bangalore their first home defeat of the season? We shall find out together.
