Right then, what a start we have had to the new week in the 2024 Indian T20 League and this game has set up the rest of the week brilliantly. Next up, table-toppers Rajasthan travel to the eastern part of India to face second-place Kolkata at the Eden Gardens in what is expected to be a huge clash. That game will be played on Tuesday, 16 April in Kolkata and will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). However, you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up. Till then, take care and goodbye!

Travis Head is the Player of the Match for his blistering ton. Head says that a nice shower and some food after the first innings and says that they were able to drag things back after the Powerplay but Dinesh Karthik played a brilliant innings at the end. Mentions that the pitch played much better than expected and the power they have in the batting lineup, they could just keep going. On batting alongside, Abhishek Sharma, he says that they complement each other well and the way he takes on the spinners early on is brilliant. Ends by saying that the way he moved and struck the ball in this game was pretty good.

Pat Cummins, the captain of Hyderabad jokingly says that he wishes he was a batter. A wonderful game of cricket and says that the same happened against Mumbai and he thought it wouldn't happen again but he was proven wrong. Says that when you bowl an over of seven or eight runs, you can have a big impact on the game. Also states that at Chinnaswamy, even if it looks dry, it has given some wonderful surfaces to bat on. Adds that the batters are enjoying every bit and playing with all the freedom keeping smiles on their faces. Ends up by saying he is delighted as they have four wins now.

The Presentation ceremony...

Earlier in the game, Faf du Plessis won the toss and finally got his wish to chase but the decision to bowl first quickly turned into a nightmare as the Hyderabad openers but on a 100-plus stand in just over 7 overs before Abhishek Sharma finally got out. However, it was Travis Head who was just in a punishing mood and went on to score the fourth-fastest century in the Indian T20 League off just 39 balls. The likes of Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram did a fine job with the former notching up another quickfire fifty after which Abdul Samad laid the finishing touches with a 10-ball-37 and took his team to 287 big runs. On the bowling front, there wasn't much to talk about but Will Jacks did bowl well in the Powerplay and Lockie Ferguson got a couple of wickets but was highly expensive like the rest of the bowlers. In reply, Bengaluru fought well but fell short by 25 runs and surprisingly not even a single bowler across both sides went for less than 10 runs an over, astonishing stat given the fact that 13 bowlers bowled in the game.

Heinrich Klaasen, one of the stars of Hyderabad's batting is in for a chat. Klaasen says that it was unbelievable stuff from Travis Head and for him to come in, he had some time and played sensibly at the other end and got a few bad deliveries that got him going. Adds that he isn't training a lot and just had one session in the few days and is more focused on standing still and keeping things simple and is happy that it is coming off. Mentions that they were a bit lucky a few games ago and knew that the ball was going to fly and the opposition too batted really well.

Faf du Plessis, the captain of Bengaluru says that the pitch was a proper T20 track and credits the batters to take it close. On being asked about the bowling, he says it is tough and they have tried a few things but the plans haven't been working clearly. He says that the game of cricket is tough when you have backs against the wall but there's no way to hide at all. Adds that as a batting lineup, they have been doing pretty well and just keeping up with the way the game has evolved with the scores teams are putting up. It feels like the mind's gonna explode after back-to-back defeats and says it's a tough hill to climb ahead and ends up by saying that they will comeback with the same intensity in the next game.

Bengaluru suffer their sixth loss in seven games and remain rooted at the bottom of the table but this just goes to show how underwhelming they have been with the ball. The batters gave it their all but 288 to get in 120 legal deliveries is almost unthinkable. Both Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis started aggressively and got a plethora of boundaries away but Kohli got out in the thirties after which Faf went on a rampage but the next three batters that came in couldn't even get into double figures. Faf eventually got out on 62 after which Dinesh Karthik took matters into his hands and just about kept Bengaluru with a 1% chance of a win. He made a sensational 83 off 35 balls but got out in the 19th over and even Anuj Rawat's little cameo in the final over wasn't nearly enough to get them that crucial win.

Defending a massive total of 287 runs, Hyderabad couldn't pick up a wicket in the Powerplay and were a bit unlucky with the edges and ended up conceding 79 runs. It was then Mayank Markande who knocked over Virat Kohli right after the Powerplay and then skipper Pat Cummins got a couple of quick wickets to hand Hyderabad the advantage. With 5 wickets already in the bag, the visitors couldn't capitalize and seemed nervous in the death overs. Cummins did provide one more breakthrough but they kept conceding boundaries at an alarming rate and it was T Natarajan who finally got DK in the penultimate over that sealed the game. Overall, not the best bowling performance but there were some positives, especially the way Cummins bowled.

My, my! That is some of the best if not the very best hitting you will see overall in a T20 game and close to 550 runs were scored in the match, 549 to be exact but ultimately, Hyderabad just had too many on the board. Also, a lot of records tumbled as this has become officially the highest-scoring T20 game ever, a total of 79 boundaries hit (43 fours and 36 sixes) which just seems absurd to even hear about, and also the most number of 50-plus stands in a T20 game (7). The crowd inside the stadium did get their money's worth but the home team lost which was a big bummer for them.

FOUR! 549 runs in a T20 game! A true run-fest here at Chinnaswamy and it's the team in orange that ends up on the winning side, well, by a margin of 25 runs. A low full toss on the stumps by Bhuvi, Rawat premeditates and he moves across to the offside before scooping it over short fine leg for a boundary. Bengaluru lose their sixth game now and they are in deep trouble in their journey ahead in this competition.

19.54

FOUR! Nicely played! Bowls a knuckle ball, and offers some width outside off on a fuller length, Anuj Rawat leans onto the ball and creams it uppishly over covers for a boundary.

19.41

Yorker on the stumps and this is played to mid on for a single.

19.31

Short in length outside off, Anuj Rawat cuts it past backward point for one.

19.24

FOUR! Not where he intended but gets a boundary! Full in length around off, Anuj Rawat tries to loft it over mid-wicket but he is a bit early on the shot and it takes off from the splice of his willow and flies over point for a boundary.

19.14

FOUR! Innovative and gets the result. Way too full outside off, Anuj Rawat creatively adjusts the shot by opening the face of the bat and helps it to go through short third for four more.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! But, the entire crowd at Chinnaswamy salutes DK for his ruthless stroke play! 83 from 35. Comes from around the wicket does T Natarajan and bowls an off-cutter  on the fuller length, outside off, Dinesh Karthik gets low to lift it over covers but gets a thickish outside edge and Heinrich Klaasen completes a simple catch behind the wickets to dismiss the dangerous-looking Dinesh Karthik.

18.42

Full on the stumps, Karthik hits it wide of long on for two.

18.34

FOUR! Nicely done from DK! Outside off, full in length, Dinesh Karthik employs the switch-hit over the short third for a boundary. This game has gone to a different stratosphere irrespective to the result.

18.22

DROPPED! What an effort by Glenn Phillips though. Full and on the pads, Dinesh Karthik lifts it over the mid-wicket region but finds the fielder who shells the catch. The ball trickles behind the fielder, Nitish Kumar Reddy comes in sprinting to his left and dives it, and also saves a certain boundary. Two taken.

18.16

SIX! Oh, hello! T Natarajan serves this one right into the arc of DK and he tonks it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum with ease. Phenomenal striking this.

17.56

WIDE! This is another one outside the tramline. Wide given.

17.31

Commentary

We are back for the chase to begin! The two umpires walk out to the middle and are followed by the two Bengaluru openers, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli having a monumental mission to achieve. Hyderabad players too, disperse out to the field and take their respective fielding positions. Hyderabad too, are starting off with spin as the skipper Pat Cummins has tossed up the ball to Abhishek Sharma. Travis Head has been subbed out and Mayank Markande has taken the field in his place for Hyderabad. Let's play...

... The Run Chase ...

Right then, Bengaluru have a mammoth, well, mammoth too, would be an understatement to the target they have up their sleeves. 288 is what Bengaluru has to chase. Hyderabad will obviously feel they have got this one in the bag with the kind of bowling unit they possess. It's a very, very steep slope to climb and Bengaluru batters will need to get off the blocks from the first ball itself. Stay tuned for the chase.

Travis Head is up for a flash interview for his sensational 102. He says that it was a nice wicket and it was nice to get away in the Powerplay and the individuals played really well. Adds that he didn't want to take an unnecessary risk in the first over and wanted to capitalize later on. Mentions that it didn't look like that good of a wicket and were able to get away in the Powerplay and the ball even spun a bit and hopes that their spinners come into play. Adds that the plan was just to maximize the first 6 overs and they knew they had the firepower with the likes of Klaasen and co.

Well, just imagine if you're in the Bengaluru camp right now, you'd be scratching your heads too after this ruthless onslaught. Bengaluru found themselves trapped in a familiar predicament, unable to break through Hyderabad's solid opening partnership within the initial six overs. Runs flowed freely, and also, they made several fielding errors leaving Bengaluru grasping for adjustments and solutions. The debutant fiery Kiwi speedster, Lockie Ferguson, failed to provide the desired impact as he too struggled to contain the onslaught. Amidst the mounting pressure, it was Topley to provide a much-needed breakthrough, but again, runs kept flowing easily. Truth be told, Bengaluru's bowling lacked discipline and that's the reason for their struggles this year. The condition was such that dot balls were a rare affair and every single felt like a dot delivery. Barely any over went below double digits and the reason, they have this monstrous target to chase.

Hyderabad, as habitual to begin on a flier, started off exactly in the same way. After examining the pitch for the first over, the dual southpaw duo opened the floodgates from the get-go, going aggressively against the Bengaluru bowlers. Travis Head was the real aggressor as he timed the ball to perfection. It seemed like the ball was just effortlessly springing off his bat into the stands. Hyderabad boosted to 100 for no loss in just 7.1 overs. Abhishek Sharma too, didn't stay quiet for long and joined the party before getting dismissed on a well-supported 34. The Aussie southpaw however looked in no mood to calm down and went on to notch up a sensational 102 before getting out. But, the damage continued as Heinrich Klaasen joined the party and smashed a 23-ball half-century and kept inflating the scoring rate with glorious strokes. After his departure, Abdul Samad further compounded the damage as he struck a quickfire 37 off 10-ball cameo. Aiden Markram too didn't sit back and further helped his team to surpass the 277 mark, a record that they set just a few games ago.

Records shattered left, right, and center, bowlers left reeling with absolute helplessness, and once again, it's the team clad in orange and black that has showcased unrelenting ruthlessness with the bat. Indeed, Hyderabad has developed a habit of toppling records remarkably. Picture this - 22 monstrous sixes along with 19 boundaries. Second-highest team total in the history of all T20s and the highest total in the history of the Indian T20 League. Tells you a story, the kind of nightmare the Hyderabad batters have wreaked on this already struggling Bengaluru's bowling attack.

19.62

DROPPED! The worst-ever way to end the inning with a dropped catch, especially when you have just conceded 280-odd runs. Vijaykumar Vyshak bangs this one into the pitch and this time Abdul Samad gets hurried on and miscues the pull high over mid-wicket. Saurav Chauhan comes running in from the deep and spills a simple chance and the batters even get a couple of runs. Hydebarad finish with 287/3 on the board!

19.61wd

WIDE! Slower one, bowled into the pitch and well wide of off stump, this one grips and moves away and Abdul Samad fails to reach it. Wide called and again it is reviewed. The replays show that the batter was slightly outside off but still it was just a bit too wide to reach.

19.56

SIX! Normalcy resumes after one dot ball. Short of a length and around off stump, Abdul Samad gets inside the line and pummels the pull towards deep mid-wicket where the fielder makes a fine leaping effort but the ball just goes off the left hand and over the ropes. It was a near-impossible catching chance.

19.40

A dot ball, really? No one would have predicted that for sure! Slower one, bowled full and outside off, Abdul Samad swings hard at it but is well beaten.

19.31

There it is, Hyderabad have surpassed their own record and this is now the highest team total ever in franchise T20 cricket. Full and wide outside off, hit away from deep in the crease to long off for a single.

19.26

SIX! RECORD EQUALLED! Banged in short and over the stumps, Aiden Markram makes a bit of room and clobbers the ball over wide long on for a biggie. This is unreal hitting and there are no words to describe it.

19.14

FOUR! Wrong line and punished! Full and quick angling on the pads, Aiden Markram tickles it down to fine leg for a boundary.

19.11wd

WIDE! Attempted slower bumper, around off and looping over the batter's head. Called a wide but DK reviews from behind the stumps and the replays show that it was clearly over the head.

Vijaykumar Vyshak (3-0-43-0) to bowl the last over. Hyderabad are just 11 runs away from breaking their own record of 277.

FOUR! Now, the slice of luck also goes Samad's way and Hydebarad get 25 runs off that over. Banged in short and outside off, Abdul Samad looks to pull but gets a top edge that flies over the slip cordon and into the third man fence. Can they beat their own record for the highest score of 277 runs?

18.56

SIX! That is just asking to be hit and Abdul Samad doesn't miss out. A juicy full toss outside off stump, Abdul Samad moves a bit to the off side and smashes it straight back down the ground for another maximum.

18.46

SIX! Wow, that one has smashed into the roof and come back! Right in the slot on off and middle, Abdul Samad stays deep in the crease and clears the front leg before smoking it straight back over the bowler's head for a biggie.

18.34

FOUR! Crunched through the off side now and the 250 comes up for Hyderabad for a second time this season, unreal. Hits the deck hard and angles it across the right-hander, Abdul Samad holds his shape and hammers it through covers for another boundary.

18.24

FOUR! Top shot! Slower one at just 111 clicks, short and outside off as well, Abdul Samad waits well and pulls it powerfully wide of long on for a boundary.

18.11

Pitched up on leg stump, in the hitting arc, Aiden Markram gets across a bit and lofts the ball down to wide long on for just a single. Markram hasn't quite been able to replicate what the batters before him did.

Reece Topley (1-0-43-1) is back and will bowl the penultimate over. Also, Bengaluru has decided to bring in their Impact Sub in the form of Anuj Rawat in place of Yash Dayal who has just completed his expensive spell.

FOUR! Nicely played! Yash Dayal nails the wide yorker again but this time Abdul Samad is ready for it and squeezes it away with and open bat face fine of deep point for a boundary.

17.51

Gets away with that one! A quick and high full toss, angled in at the thigh pads, Aiden Markram isn't expecting it and is late as he gets it away through mid-wicket for just one more.

17.41

Smart bowling from Yash Dayal as he brings out the back-of-the-hand slower ball, gets it into the pitch and wide of the off stump. Abdul Samad has to wait for it and can only force it square on the off side for a single.

17.31

Another one that is right in the blockhole and at the stumps this time, squeezed away in front of mid-wicket for a single.

17.20

Well bowled! Full and wide, gets the yorker spot on this time and Aiden Markram hits it straight to covers for a dot ball.

17.21nb

OUT! TAKEN! Oh, wait! The siren has gone off and the wicket won't count! Yash Dayal goes for the wide yorker and ends up serving a low full toss around the tramline. Aiden Markram reaches out and ends up cue-ending it low to the left of short third where Reece Topley takes a fine diving catch. Markram starts walking but Dayal has overstepped and instead it will be a Free Hit!

17.12

Excellent work in the deep from Rajat Patidar. Slower one, on a good length and wide of off stump, Aiden Markram waits before driving it away to the right of deep point for a couple of runs.

This is darted with absolute precision at 148 clicks on the line of the stumps, tailing in from the middle, just ahead of the boots of the batter. Saurav Chauhan looks to whip it to the leg side but misses and it hits his pads. A huge appeal and the Umpire doesn't flinch a bit to raise his finger.

18.11

Reece Topley (1-0-43-1) is back and will bowl the penultimate over. Also, Bengaluru has decided to bring in their Impact Sub in the form of Anuj Rawat in place of Yash Dayal who has just completed his expensive spell.

Strategic Break! Well, the burning question on everyone's mind is whether Hyderabad will surpass their own record for the highest number of runs scored in the first innings. Quite possible with that bloke named Heinrich Klaasen out in the middle supported by the dynamic Aiden Markram. Travis Head's 102, and Heinrich Klaasen's blistering unbeaten 60 off 27 as already put Hyderabad into the driver's seat, and with eight wickets in hand, these two Proteas men will aim to compound on the ruthless onslaught further. Will Bengaluru restrict them in the slog overs? Or will Hyderabad surpass 277? Let's find out.

The two southpaws Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have once again provided a rock-solid foundation for the team in orange with the former being the real aggressor. Head reached his 50 in some aggressive fashion off just 21 balls thrown at him. For Bengaluru, their wound has just gotten a bit deeper as they couldn't break the opening stand once again. Their bowlers will be aiming to get a couple of quick wickets from here and put breaks on the runs flowing. Will Jacks (2-0-12-0) is back into the attack.

We are all set for the game to begin! The two umpires are out in the middle and so are the players of Bengaluru who are given a huge round of applause as they take their places on the field. It will be the dual left-handed pairing of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head to open the innings for Hyderabad. Spin to begin proceedings here as Will Jacks has been tossed the ball. Let's play...

Pat Cummins, the skipper of Hyderabad says that they have had some great wins this season and adds it's the nature of the T20 game that you won't win each and every game. But says he is pretty happy with the way the team has performed so far. Informs that they are going with the same side.

Faf du Plessis, the skipper of Bengaluru, says that they will be chasing. Adds that the pitch has been pretty much the same all season and has been a bit slower than they expected and that's the nature of the game. Mentions that when you aren't playing your best cricket, you doubt yourself but they have made a few changes to try and turn things around. Informs that the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj are sitting out this game with Lockie Ferguson coming in.

Impact players nominated by Bengaluru - Suyash Prabhudessai, Anuj Rawat, Swapnil Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Karn Sharma.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (Playing XI) - Faf du Plessis (C), Virat Kohli, Will Jacks, Rajat Patidar, Saurav Chauhan (In for Mohammed Siraj), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Mahipal Lomror, Lockie Ferguson (In for Glenn Maxwell), Reece Topley, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Yash Dayal.

Impact players nominated by Hyderabad - Umran Malik, Anmolpreet Singh, Mayank Markande, Glenn Phillips, Rahul Tripathi.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Unchanged Playing XI) - Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen (WK), Abdul Samad, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (C), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, T Natarajan.

Toss Update - The coin-flip lands in the favor of Bengaluru and Faf du Plessis opts to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Aaron Finch and Kevin Pietersen are at the 22 yards. Pietersen starts by saying that it is a very crucial game for Bengaluru at their home ground. States that the boundary dimensions are 57 meters at one square and it is 64 meters at the other and 69 meters down the ground. Aaron Finch joins him and says that there's a little bit of live green grass on this track but it's quite patchy. Reckons that the ball will zip and skid for the quicks with the new ball. Also says that Chinnaswamy has seen a bit more spin this year and believes that there will be some dry spin and some surface cracking too. Also informs that there's a little bit of dew out there but quite less as compared to the previous game at Wankhede. Ends up by saying that it will favour the team batting second.

JUST IN - Lockie Ferguson has just been handed over his debut cap by his fellow pacer Mohammed Siraj. He will be making his first appearance for Bengaluru this year.

Although Bengaluru has an edge over Hyderabad while playing at Chinnaswamy, the visitors are primed to break this streak. The anticipation soars high as the toss and team updates are up next shortly.

On the other hand, Hyderabad is coming off a thrilling win against Punjab by a margin of just 2 runs and is brimming with confidence with two back-to-back wins. Hyderabad, so far, has been decent with their performances and has seen different match-winners stepping up to the occasion. Nitish Kumar Reddy is one such name who impressed with the bat, scoring a superb 64 off just 37 when the rest of the batters kept losing wickets. Abhishek Sharma has proven to be consistent at the top and has justified the confidence shown in him by the management. While they boast a strong overseas contingent, the Indian players have also stepped up. Pat Cummins as the skipper and his tactics seem to be working quite nicely, and he has been superb with the ball as well along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who equally has been the talking point for his economical spells. The induction of T Natarajan has further bolstered their bowling unit.

Let's delve into Bengaluru's performance. We're not even halfway through the competition, but their season already seems chaotic. Despite a star-studded lineup, the team has faltered badly, especially when defending targets. Their batters have performed strictly average, and the middle order has collapsed dramatically, barring Virat Kohli who leads the chart for scoring most runs so far. Glenn Maxwell, too, couldn't get going, and he might just miss this game due to an injury. Dinesh Karthik has absorbed the role as a finisher well and has provided Bengaluru with stronger finishes. But as always, Bengaluru's bowling unit has disappointed, to say the least. It's a dilemma that always leaves them scratching their heads. Mohammed Siraj, in particular, has been evidently expensive. But overall, the rest of the bowling unit, including the spinners, needs to step up as they have given strictly below-par returns so far. Worrying signs for Bengaluru, given that their bowlers have the highest economy rate of all the teams in this edition.

Greetings and a warm welcome, cricket enthusiasts! The Indian T20 League 2024 progresses into its fourth week with Match number 30 upon us, and the two rivals, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, are all set to clash in this southern derby. The runs-galore Chinnaswamy Stadium will host this contest. Bengaluru finds themselves languishing at the bottom of the points table, courtesy of a very poor outing this season with five heavy defeats and just a solitary win. Truth be told, they just haven't arrived yet in the competition. Whereas Hyderabad is brimming with confidence, having won their last two games and currently occupying the fourth spot in the table.

... MATCH DAY ...

The 2024 Indian T20 League moves into a new week of cricketing action and we are almost halfway through the group stage. The new week kicks off with a clash between Bengaluru and Hyderabad at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Hosts Bengaluru have had a forgetful campaign thus far and are running out of time to make a comeback and get into the mix for those crucial playoff places. With just 1 win from 6 matches, Faf du Plessis and his men are languishing at the bottom of the table and no individual other than Virat Kohli has shown consistency. The star batting has been topping the scoring charts but was dismissed early on in their most recent loss to Mumbai and will be hungry to get back amongst the runs. Faf on the other hand did play a good knock and Dinesh Karthik was sensational in the previous and really it has been the uncharacteristically poor form of Glenn Maxwell that has been the thorn in their batting and also the third overseas batter hasn't proved to be fruitful either. Will Jacks was given a chance in the previous game and we might see him given a longer run in place of Cameron Green but he needs to deliver. On the bowling front, things have gone downhill from the last season and they have had a history of being light on quality bowling which has cost them some big matches. Reece Topley has been decent but Mohammed Siraj hasn't been able to deliver in the Powerplay in the way he has been in the last couple of seasons and the rest of the bowling lineup has been chopped and changed multiple times already which is never a good sign. Talking about Hyderabad, they come into this contest on the back of a nerve-wracking win against Punjab in which they almost lost a match that they should have won a lot much easier. Their top order does hold the key for them with the bat with the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Aiden Markram all already contributing to victories and then there's the threat of Heinrich Klaasen in the middle phase. The duo of Shahbaz Ahmed and Abdul Samad has also made vital contributions but the addition of Nitish Kumar Reddy has given them that edge with a proper all-rounder who can bat and bowl quick as well. The pace attack has been up and down but Pat Cummins, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan have all shown signs of greatness but Mayank Markande who was brilliant for them last season hasn't been able to replicate the same this season and they need him to step up as he is their lead spinner. Hyderabad have 3 wins from 5 games and are in a dog fight in the middle of the table and would want to get that fourth win in order to give themselves some breathing room going ahead. Can Bengaluru turn their fortunes around and maybe spark a comeback with a win? Or will Hyderabad pile on the misery on their opponents? We shall find out.
