Madan Kaushik is a four-time MLA from the Haridwar constituency and one of the Bharatiya Janata Party's most senior legislators in the Himalayan state. In 2021, just days after Tirath Singh Rawat was sworn in as Uttarakhand Chief Minister, the Haridwar MLA was named head of the party's state unit, replacing Banshidhar Bhagat. Between 2007 to 2012, he was a Cabinet Minister in the BC Khanduri and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank governments. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly for the first time in 2002, and then again in 2007, 2012, and 2017. He won the elections in 2017 by a margin of over 35,000 votes, garnering over 66 per cent of the total votes cast in the constituency.
