Commentary

Right then, that is it from this game where India takes a 1-0 lead and will be looking to wrap up the series in the next game while Bangladesh will be hoping to level it. The 2nd T20I will be played on 9th October, Wednesday in New Delhi at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium. It will start at 1.30 pm GMT, but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Arshdeep Singh is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant bowling spell. He says that there was a breeze going around from the end he was bowling. Adds that he did not get his first wicket the way he wanted but was happy with it anyway. Mentions that he makes minor changes like with his wrists or fingers to bring in the variations. Says that the young bowlers have done well especially Mayank Yadav who had a good debut. Ends by saying that, this format is all about adapting to situations, conditions, and ground dimensions.

Suryakumar Yadav, the victorious skipper of India says they just tried to back their skills and tried to walk the talk. Mentions it was great how the guys showed character and selflessness. On being asked about the two debutants, Mayank and Nitish, he appreciates them and says they are interesting players and is looking forward to watching them do well in future games. On being asked about so many players to choose from, he jokingly says it is a good headache to have many options at your disposal when you are on the field. Concludes by saying there's always room to learn and improve in every game.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh says that they did not start well. Adds that in T20s it is important to play well in the Powerplay but they didn't. Mentions that the plan was to bat positively but they also need to adjust according to the situation. Tells that they need to focus on strike rotation and not only on hitting boundaries. Says that they scored 95-odd runs in 14 overs but lost too many wickets. Ends by saying that it is difficult for the bowlers to defend such a low score on a wicket like this, but still Rishad Hossain bowled well and Fizz delivered a couple of decent overs.

Presentation Time...

Varun Chakaravarthy is up for a quick chat. He says it feels like a rebirth for him to be back in the blues after 3 long years.  Adds he just wanted to stick to the process, and that's what he tried to do in the Indian T20 League earlier this year. Adds he doesn't want to think and express too much. Mentions he played a few leagues and got to learn a lot in the TNPL alongside Ravichandran Ashwin, and it was a good preparation for him for this series. Says once you're not in the Indian team, people write you off and you just need to keep doing the job sincerely.

Earlier in the game, Bangladesh posted a below-par total with only Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan crossing the 20-run mark. Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy were the pick of the bowlers for India with three wickets each while debutant, Mayank Yadav also performed well and got one. Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar also chipped in with one each as well. It was a real all-round performance from the World T20 champions and the batters also made the chase look like a cakewalk.

Not much to talk about the bowling of Bangladesh and it was not helped by the fact that their batters did not show up for this game. They were put under pressure early on from the Indian openers and never seemed to recover from that. Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman were the ones with a wicket to their name while the other one was a run out. However, there were a few positives, mainly the spinners. Rishad Hossain did not get a wicket but bowled really well and Shoriful Islam was also economical in his two overs and this is something they can build on in the upcoming games.

The target for India was not a big one, but the way they executed the chase was excellent. The positive intent was visible right from the start when the two openers took on the attack. Abhishek Sharma fell to an unfortunate run out but not before playing a fiery cameo. It was actually selfless batting from all the players and no one was going for personal milestone. Sanju Samson failed to convert his start again but showed his class in his knock of 29 off 19. SKY was exceptional and displayed a show of brilliant whips and flicks which also ultimately proved to be his downfall. With not much required to chase, Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy joined hands and made sure to finish the job. Reddy was the second fiddle while Pandya stayed unbeaten on 39 off just 16 balls finishing things off with little more than 8 overs to spare.

DOMINANCE FROM INDIA! The first T20I in this new stadium in Gwalior and the Men in Blue were simply brilliant with both bat and bowl providing an incredible experience for the packed crowd. The hosts take the early lead in the series with Bangladesh having their task cut out now.

11.56

SIX! HARDIK PANDYA FINISHES OFF IN STYLE FOR INDIA! Banged in short and on the top of the stumps, Hardik Pandya stands tall, backs away, swings hard, and slaps the pull rows behind the deep mid-wicket fence for a huge six. Hardik kills the game with 49 balls remaining and 7 wickets in hand.

11.44

FOUR! The ball's gone and so has the bat! Hard length outside off. Hardik cuts it hard and loses the grip of the bat. However, he connects it off the middle and the ball goes racing away to the deep backward point fence for a boundary while the bat flies to the square leg region. It's all happening here!

11.34

FOUR! Easy peasy! Into the single figures now! Short and on off, Hardik Pandya arches back, ramps it over the keeper's head for a boundary. He doesn't even look at the ball as it dribbles away into the fence. Quite a raw expression from Pandya.

11.21

Much fuller, on middle, Nitish Kumar Reddy flicks it with his wrists to deep square leg for another single.

11.11lb

Taskin comes back into the attack, bowls a toe-crushing yorker on the pads, and bends Hardik Pandya who tries to flick it away. It goes off Pandya's boot to short fine for a leg bye.

Doesn't get hold of it, does Hardik. Nice and full, on off, Hardik Pandya swings hard at it to go over the long on region but gets it off the inner half for a single. India just 12 runs away from the win.

10.50

On middle, full and flat, Hardik Pandya pushes it back to the bowler.

10.46

SIX! MURDERED! Rishad Hossain drags his length, keeps it on off, Hardik Pandya gets a good bounce on his waist height, rocks back by using the depth of the crease and slashes it hard and over covers with a short-arm jab for a six. That was hit with brute force by Hardik.

10.30

Rishad hurries Hardik on this length ball, that skids through the surface. Hardik Pandya goes for a cut shot but gets a thick outside edge and Mehidy Hasan doesn't collect the ball properly. It lands just near him.

10.22

A bit of a rusty shot there by Hardik! Tossed up, around off, Hardik Pandya swings hard and slices it over point for a couple of runs.

Halt! Litton Das has taken a nasty blow on his fingers trying to collect the ball. The physio is in and he will be applying some magic spray to relieve the pain. We are good to continue now.

10.11

Slow through the air, nice and full, outside off, Nitish Kumar Reddy pushes it to covers and steals a single. A wayward throw comes to the left of the keeper and Das couldn't collect it properly. The ball deflects off his gloves and rolls to the short fine but there is a backup to prevent any other run.

FOUR! Pandya in a hurry to finish things off! Not an ideal length with no fielders in the deep. Full and just outside off, Hardik Pandya knows the fielders are inside the ring and just lofts it over covers and mid off for a boundary. India need 22 more to win in 60 balls.

Drinks! There seemed to be some issue with Hardik Pandya and the umpires have decided to call for drinks. India are absolutely cruising along in the chase and the question is how quickly can they get the job done. The intent have been clear from every batter and it is to attack no matter what. Bangladesh have tried their best but defending such a score against this India side was never going to be easy.

9.51

Across off on a hard length, Nitish Kumar Reddy pushes it with firm hands past cover for another single.

9.41

Short of a good length, on off, Hardik Pandya swooshes hard at it on the front foot, ends up slicing it over cover-point for a single.

9.34

FOUR! Gee, that's some shot! 100 up for India in double-quick time! Half-tracker on the top of the middle, Hardik Pandya arches back and taps the ball over backward point for a boundary. India motoring away comfortably.

9.21lb

Oh, that skidded through like a bullet! Length ball, outside leg, Nitish Kumar Reddy is hurried by the pace to pull it away but gets it off the thigh pads instead. The ball rolls to the off side and they cross over.

SIX! INTO THE CROWD! First six for Nitish! Tossed up, a genuine half-volley on offer, Nitish Kumar Reddy walks down, gets his bat under the ball, middles it and tonks it over the long on fence for a huge six. India need 34 off 66 now.

Commentary

Welcome back for the second innings! The umpires are punctual and so are the players of Bangladesh who spread out to the field. Out walk the two openers for India. It's a brand-new opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma. With the former taking the strike. Shoriful Islam with a slip in place is all in readiness to get the proceedings underway with the new ball. And, here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Well then, the first inning has flown by in this series opener. India has a target within reach to chase and will aim to mirror their bowling performance with the bat as well. Bangladesh on the other hand, will be required to bring their A-game with the ball. They do pose a threatening pace attack and would like them to contribute effectively. An exciting run chase up next in just a few minutes. Stay tuned.

Since the ball did some mischief too, Varun Chakravarthy came in handy and chipped in with a three-wicket haul to his name as well. India didn't let the opposition off the hook in the mid-overs, with identical bowling in the death as well, conceding only 16 runs and taking 3 wickets in the last 4. In the end, Hardik and Arshdeep did the cleaning of the tail effectively, eventually bowling them out in 19.5 overs.

India, on the other hand, began right on the money with Arshdeep setting the foundation in the very first over with a wicket. The new ball moved and got a bit of a variable bounce which helped the seamers to tie the batters up. It was Mayank Yadav though, who created impact straightaway in his debut match. First, delivered a maiden and then snagged his first T20I wicket, adding more trouble to the opposition.

Throughout, Bangladesh looked in a bit of hurry from the word go to accelerate and put the hosts under pressure, but it proved to be a two-faced sword for them. They needed a strong partnership after that initial collapse. But in contrast, they kept losing wickets and slipped down to 111/7 at the end of the 16th over. With an aim to ascend in the death overs, and Mehidy Hasan settled in well by then, he too, was left stranded at one end. As a result, Bangladesh, under steeping pressure, couldn't get the required momentum. Mehidy Hasan though, played well for his unbeaten 35.

Bangladesh started in a bit of a rusty fashion and lost their openers inside the restrictions. The batters tried to adapt to the pitch and tried to take the attack on right away. Hence, they could only mount 39/2 on the board in the Powerplay. In a desperate need to construct partnerships, Najmul Hossain Shanto attempted to launch a counter-offensive. He was the only one who looked settled but searched for partners at the other end.

A comprehensive bowling display by the Men in Blue through and through! They have reduced Bangladesh to just above a run-a-ball in this first T20I. To be fair, the tourists just couldn't get going in the innings and only Najmul Hossain Shanto along with Mehidy Hasan could cross the 20-run mark.

19.5W

OUT! CASTLED! Arshdeep Singh wraps things up here with his third wicket! He bowls another excellent yorker, on middle, Mustafizur Rahman stays back in his crease and swings wildly but gets beaten all ends up. The ball goes through to disturb the furniture behind. Bangladesh have been bowled out for 127 runs!

19.41

Arshdeep Singh bangs this short, on middle, angling into the body of the batter, Mehidy Hasan goes for the pull but gets hurried. It takes the top edge and lands well before third man. They cross.

19.32

Back of a length and outside off, Mehidy Hasan uses his feet and slices it wide of deep point for a couple of runs. 130 still on the cards for Bangladesh!

19.24lb

FOUR LEG BYES! Bangladesh will take that! Fuller and on middle and leg, Mehidy Hasan backs away to whip it, but misses. The ball clips the back pad and races away to the fine leg fence for a boundary.

19.10

Good start! Arshdeep Singh bowls a fine yorker, on middle, Mehidy Hasan jams it out towards extra covers for no run.

Arshdeep Singh to bowl the last over.

Clever bowling! Mayank Yadav finishes his debut spell with excellent figures (4-1-21-1). He takes pace off here, short of a length and on off, Mustafizur Rahman looks to guide it away but chops it down on the pitch and the ball goes over the stumps.

Halt! Mustafizur Rahman got the previous ball off the toe end of the bat and it took a very bad hit. He asks for a bat change. A friendly chat between Hardik Pandya and him as the former checks up the bat. The reserve player from the Bangladesh dugout comes out with another bat, hands it to him and Fizz is good to continue. These days, even the number 11 batters carry a couple bats in their kitbags.

18.50

Nails the yorker now, on off, Mustafizur Rahman digs it out but only as far as covers. He is looking at his bat and it seems like the toe-end of the bat is broken.

18.41

Slower one, full and around off, Mehidy Hasan goes through his slog across the line early, gets an outside edge wide of third man for just one. 120 up for Bangladesh!

18.31

Full again and on leg, Mustafizur Rahman flicks it through mid-wicket for a run.

18.21

Fuller and on middle, Mayank Yadav swipes it towards deep mid-wicket for a single. He looks for the second but there isn't one on offer.

18.10

A good yorker, outside off, Mehidy Hasan squeezes it out well but fails to beat point.

Mayank Yadav (3-1-18-1) to bowl the penultimate over.

17.5W

OUT! TIMBER! Hardik Pandya joins the party finally! He goes full and on middle and off, Shoriful Islam backs away a long way and swings wildly at it. He is nowhere near the ball and the off pole goes for a walk. He walks back for a duck and Bangladesh are nine down now!

17.40

Hard length and around off, Shoriful Islam backs away to cut it away but misses.

17.31

A low full toss, on off, Mehidy Hasan drills it to long off fo a run.

Shoriful Islam is in at number 10.

17.21W

OUT! RUN OUT! Another one bites the dust! Good length and around middle, Mehidy Hasan goes down and swipes it wide of deep square leg. He wants the strike back and turns around for the second run but his partner thinks otherwise. However, Taskin Ahmed still goes for it and sacrifices his wicket as Arshdeep Singh throws it to the bowler's end where Hardik Pandya does the rest.

17.11

Uppish but safe! Back of a length and on off, Taskin Ahmed goes for the pull but gets top edge that goes over the bowler and lands in front of long off. They cross.

Bangladesh have tried their best but defending such a score against this India side was never going to be easy.

OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Mehidy Hasan strikes in his very first over and India are 3 down now. Mehidy Hasan bowls it full and flat and keeps the line of attack on the middle and leg stump. Sanju Samson clears his front foot to get some width and goes through the hoick across the line, but it is too close to the body and gets no power and timing at all. Goes off the inner half of the bat and straight towards Rishad Hossain at deep mid-wicket. Sanju Samson straightaway knew that he was in trouble after the point of contact. He departs for a decent 29 off 19!

Time for the first hydration break! We are just in the 10th over and Bangladesh has lost half of its side. The batters looked in haste to hare away with the attack, but it proved to be the exact opposite for them. Najmul Hossain Shanto is stranded alone at the other end and witnessed the collapse. He needs a responsible hand to get Bangladesh to a challenging total. India on the other hand, have not stepped on any wrong foot so far and have continued to chip in with wickets, using the conditions nicely, and will aim to press on further. Mehidy Hasan is the new batter in for Bangladesh at number 7.

OUT! BOWLED'EM! Absolute ripper from Varun Chakaravarthy! That is why it is really difficult for new batters to pick Varun's variations. This is floated, full and on off, grips and turns in sharply, Jaker Ali prods forward to block but fails to read it completely. Leaves a huge gap between the bat and pad as the ball goes through to shatter the stumps. Bangladesh lose half their side now and we are not even halfway through the innings yet.

Arshdeep Singh has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let's play...

We are moments away from the start of the game but before that, the players from both sides stride out to the middle and line up for their respective national anthems. It will be Bangladesh's first followed by the national anthem of India.

India (Playing XI) - Sanju Samson (WK), Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Nitish Kumar Reddy (On Debut), Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav (On Debut).

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Najmul Hossain Shanto (C), Litton Das (WK), Parvez Hossain Emon, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Mahmudullah, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh says it is a pretty new side and a couple of new guys are coming in as well. He is hopeful that they will do something remarkable in this series. Says they have worked really hard for this series. On the pitch, he says he would have bowled first as well but also hopes for the openers to do good. Informs they are going with three seamers and two regular spinners along with six proper batters.

Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India says that it is a bit humid and does not think it will change much during the game. Adds that it is always nice to play in front of home fans and in home conditions. Mentions that there is a lot of talent in the group and everyone is ready to get on. Tells that the wicket looks good and the crowd has come in numbers as well which is nice to see. Ends by saying that choosing an XI from such a great squad is a nice headache to have and the players who are playing deserve this opportunity. Informs that the players who miss out are Tilak Verma, Harshit Rana, Jitesh Sharma and Ravi Bishnoi.

TOSS UPDATE - Energetic Ravi Shastri hosts the toss! The flip of the coin lands in the favor of India and Suryakumar Yadav elects to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Abhinav Mukund is at the 22 yards inspecting the deck. He begins by sharing the dimensions of this brand new stadium. Mentions it is 64 meters and 65 meters at the squares, and 74 meter hit down the ground. Adds it looks like a typical Indian wicket and is a black soil surface laid with grass on top. Also tells the grass looks quite dry and the pitch is firm as well. Also says that the curator spoke to him and said that the there's been no dew at all since the last few days. Ends by saying it would be a brave decision to bat considering it is a fresh surface.

JUST IN - Pace sensation Mayank Yadav has been handed over the debut cap by Murali Kartik. He was seen marking his run-up a few minutes back. He will make his T20I debut in this match alongside an impressive all-rounder, Nitish Kumar Reddy who was handed the cap by Parthiv Patel.

India has historically dominated their T20I encounters with Bangladesh, boasting an impressive 12-1 win-loss record. Bangladesh's lone victory against India in this format came back in 2019 in New Delhi. Since then, India has maintained its upper hand and has run through this opposition. Will Bangladesh hit a surprise this time around, or will India further better their home record? Only time will tell. With all said, it’s time for the toss and team updates in a bit. Stick around!

Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto. They have fielded a comparatively experienced squad with several players having more than fifty T20Is under their belt. But, it would be interesting to see who fills in the shoes of Shakib Al Hasan as the mainstream all-rounder. They do have Mehidy Hasan Miraz for these honors. While the team relies largely on its veteran core, eyes will be on emerging talents like Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who are set to play crucial roles in the bowling department.

India will be missing established openers like Jaiswal and Gill, but the team sees an opportunity for in-form Abhishek Sharma up top. Sanju Samson, who has been a hit-and-miss so far, is also itching to make his mark. The middle order, anchored by Rinku Singh and Riyan Parag with support from Hardik Pandya, aims to provide stability. Tilak Varma's inclusion, following Shivam Dube's injury, adds depth to the batting lineup. In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh leads the pace attack, and is joined by promising newcomers Harshit Rana and the fiery speedster Mayank Yadav. The spin trio of Bishnoi, Chakravarthy, and Sundar rounds out a diverse bowling unit.

India enters this series with a revamped lineup, helmed by the dynamic Suryakumar Yadav. The team aims to build on its recent successes against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe earlier this year, and it navigates a transitional phase following the exits of stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja from this format. In contrast, Bangladesh returns to T20I cricket for the first time since the T20 World Cup a few months back. After a streak of lackadaisical performances, Bangladesh is eager to turn things around and prove their mettle this time around.

On that note, we welcome you all joining us for our coverage of this 1st T20I. It’s a debut, not for a player, but for a venue long waiting for this day. The brand new Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium of Gwalior will host its first-ever international cricket match. While Gwalior itself is no stranger to hosting cricket, having previously hosted iconic matches at the old Captain Roop Singh Stadium, this is a historic debut for this particular venue to carry forward the legacy.

A T20I series sandwiched between a stacked-up Test season is another treat for the fans as India hosts Bangladesh for a riveting 3-match T20I series. After a successful Test series win by 2-0, India strides out with fresh energy with a re-engineered squad. While Bangladesh on the other hand will be aiming for a stronger performance this time around and challenge the hosts.

... MATCH DAY ...

After securing a dominant 2-0 clean sweep in the Test series, India is now geared up to host Bangladesh in an exciting 3-match T20I series. The opener will be held at the newly inaugurated Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior, marking the much-anticipated return of international cricket to the city after 14 long years. The intensity is expected to soar as Bangladesh looks to bounce back from their Test defeats, aiming for a more clinical performance in the shorter format, where they are known to be more formidable. Meanwhile, India, featuring a rejuvenated lineup, will aim to extend their dominance and begin shaping the future of the team as they transition from the era of a few recently retired veterans. Bangladesh brings a formidable squad into this series, not only well-rounded but packed with genuine match-winners. Their experienced batting lineup will be key, carrying the weight of expectations as they look to set the tone. The return of Mehidy Hasan into the squad is a significant boost, adding balance and depth to the squad. Spin will undoubtedly be a crucial factor, but the pacers, led by Mustafizur Rahman, will also have to step up to provide the necessary support in what promises to be a tightly contested series. On the other hand, India enters the series with a few notable players rested, creating opportunities for emerging talent to make an impact. With Abhishek Sharma as the only designated opener, Sanju Samson might partner him at the top. While the middle order appears solid, all eyes will be on the pace department, where speedster Mayank Yadav along with Harshit Rana could make their debut in this series, eager to leave their mark. Both teams look strong on paper and have the capability to outplay each other on any given day. The opener is perfectly set to be a high-intensity contest, as both India and Bangladesh will be eager to seize an early advantage. Who do you think will land the first blow? We'll soon find out!
