India beat England by 7 wickets

ICC Academy, Dubai

That's it from this warm-up match! The next set of warm-up games will be played on 20th October. At 2 pm local (10 am GMT), India will be in action against Australia and England will be entertaining New Zealand whereas at 6 pm local (2 pm GMT), Afghanistan will face West Indies and Pakistan will meet South Africa. Do join us then. Cheers!

The bowling from India though was good only in patches. In fact, both teams struggled with the ball. Barring Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah, all the Indian bowlers proved to be expensive. For England, David Willey and Liam Livingstone were decent but the rest struggled. Dew also played its part late in the evening and this will be another challenge in the coming games.

At the halfway stage, India needed another 97 runs and had they lost a few wickets there, this game could have slipped away. Ishan Kishan's stunning attack on Adil Rashid in the 12th over eased down the equation for India and from there on, they kept on finding the boundaries to always stay close to the required rate. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya staying in the middle and closing the chase would please India even more.

A dominating batting show by India to pocket this warm-up game! It got a bit close towards the end but it was always their game to lose. The Men in Blue got most of the boxes ticked, if not all, in their batting department. KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan displayed great form in the recently concluded Indian T20 League and showed that they are not done yet. Their opening partnership almost did half the job and Ishan extended his stay after that to carry on with his onslaught.

SIX! There is the winning blow! Rishabh Pant finishes the game off in style! Back of a length, around off, angling in, Rishabh Pant waits for it and then swivels to smoke this one over deep square leg. INDIA WIN BY 7 WICKETS!

18.6 nb 2

NO BALL! Jordan oversteps this time. Not having the best time, is Jordan! Outside off, length, drilled through covers for one. Free Hit coming up now. Just 3 more needed for India! Can Pant smack one out of the park and end the game?

18.5 2

A full toss, around off, flicked to the left of mid-wicket, who dives that side and partially stops the ball. Two taken this time. 5 more needed!

18.4 4

FOUR! Edgy but India and Pandya won't care! A fuller delivery, around off, Hardik Pandya looks to whip this one to the leg side but the ball catches the outside edge and flies over short third man. Boundary. 7 needed in 8 now!

NO BALL AND FOUR BYES! Oops. Looks like the ball slipped out of Jordan's hand. A waist-high full toss, way outside off, Pandya looks to connect with this but misses. It is too quick for Jos Buttler to stop and the ball speeds away to the ropes. Free Hit coming up too.

Back of a length, around off, slanting away, slower again, Hardik Pandya waits for it and looks to dab it to the off side but misses. 'SLOW DAAL RAHA HAI NA?' is what Hardik asks Pant, which means that he is asking if Willey is bowling slow. Looks like Pant replies in the affirmative.

17.4 0

Slower and shorter on the body, Pandya looks to pull but he gets an under-edge to Buttler, on the bounce.

Hardik Pandya is in next.

OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! SKY's short stay has come to an end. He was looking to be cheeky but it proves to be his undoing. Willey bangs this one short, slightly slower though, on middle, Suryakumar Yadav makes room, by moving to the leg side and he looks to ramp it over the keeper. He only manages a thin edge, which goes to Jos Buttler, who ensures to pouch this. 21 more needed in 15 balls now!

DROPPED! Liam Livingstone drops this chance and also hurts himself in the process. On a length, around middle, Ishan Kishan uses his wrists and whips this towards deep mid-wicket. He does not get the distance on this and Liam Livingstone runs to his left but drops an easy catch. The batters take one and it looks like Liam has injured himself in the process. He walks off and Sam Billings comes out to replace him out on the field.

Liam Livingstone is leaving the ground. Let's hope it's not a fracture. Also, Ishan Kishan is done with his warm-up, enough of practice and he is making way for Suryakumar Yadav.

Drinks break! India have started off this run chase in a fine manner as their openers raised an 82-run stand and laid the platform. Now, from the last 10 overs, they need 97 more and if they can continue with the same tempo, then they should pouch this game. England would be hoping to snare more wickets and quickly too as they look to apply the brakes to India's charge. Liam Livingstone to bowl after the break.

Update - A word regarding the other two games going on at the moment. In match number 4 between Sri Lanka and Namibia, the former are cruising as they are 50/3 in 8 overs and just need 47 more in 12 overs. Barring any surprise, this should be a win for the Islanders. In the other warm-up match between Australia and New Zealand, the Kangaroos are at 80/3 at the end of the 10th over and need 79 more in 60 deliveries. It could be a close finish in this clash.

8.4 1

8.3 1

OUT! CAUGHT! KL Rahul departs after a wonderful knock. Wood alters his length a bit and lands it outside off, Rahul once again attempts for a lofted shot but this time his bat turns in his hands and he ends up mistiming it over covers. Moeen Ali backtracks a bit and completes the catch just outside the circle. End of an 82-run opening stand and England would look to pick a few more wickets to get back into the match.

8.1 4

FOUR! KL Rahul is carrying his tremendous form from the Indian T20 League. Oozing class with his sublime shots. Fuller and around off, Rahul leans into the drive, transfers his weight well into the shot and chips it over covers for a glorious boundary. A 23-ball fifty for him!

... RUN CHASE ...

Right then. India need 189 to win and will need all their batters to contribute well if they want to chase this down. They do have the firepower required but it will not be easy against this talented English bowling attack. It should be a close chase. Stay tuned for India's reply.

The Indians did not have the best time out in the middle and will feel like they have conceded around 20-25 runs more than what they would have wanted. They did well in the middle phase as their spinners made batting slightly tough for the English batters but that did not continue for long as the Brits bounced back well towards the end. As usual, Jasprit Bumrah continued to be the star for India as he finished with figures of 4-0-26-1, bowling two top overs at the death. Ravichandran Ashwin had a fruitful evening, as he conceded just 23 in his quota of 4 overs. Mohammed Shami and Rahul Chahar had wickets to their names, as the former had 3, and Rahul had one, but they were slightly expensive. Bhuvneshwar Kumar went wicketless and did not look like he was at his best.

This has been a good batting display by England and they will be pretty pleased that they have breached the 180-run mark. Most of their batters contributed decently but Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow took the charge in the middle overs, which helped them end on a competitive total. Inside the Powerplay, the English Lions lost both their openers as they could not continue after getting decent starts. Malan was looking like he was settling in well but Chahar got the better of him. A 52-run stand was created between Livingstone and Bairstow but as they were looking to amp it up, Liam fell. Bairstow continued on his way and just missed out on his fifty, as he lost his wicket on 49. Moeen Ali gave him company and slammed a few lusty blows towards the end as he ended with a 20-ball 43, which saw them end on 188.

PITCH REPORT - Deep Dasgupta and Dale Steyn are down for the pitch report. Dale says that it might skid on slightly more than during the first game. Adds that the wicket is getting better to bat on.

Jos Buttler, the England skipper, says that everybody is excited and they want to get the campaign underway. Says that Morgan is having a bit of a rest, so it gives another player a chance to get some exposure. Feels that India will come hard at them and there will be some intensity but it is good to be back together as a group. Shares that there is competitiveness in the group and all of them are fighting to play.

The Indian captain, Virat Kohli says they will bowl first. They have had success in the past he adds. Goes on to say the boys want to create the same energy. Mentions they will be keen to give game-time to all the players. Says, after the Indian T20 League season, it is difficult to keep KL Rahul out of the opening spot. Ends by saying that he will bat at number three in this tournament.

It's TOSS time! India have won the flip of the coin and they will FIELD first!

You look at the squads of both India and England and you will find plenty of superstars of the game, individuals who have won games on their own and can set the stage on fire. So forget it's a warm-up game, expect them to fight with the same intensity as they do usually in an international game and gain that winning momentum and confidence heading forward.

Welcome to everyone for this warm-up game! Usually, these practice games don't draw much attention but since India are involved, expect this warm-up game to have plenty of eyeballs. It's not only about India though as England too would be drawing the attention after their triumph in the 50-over World Cup. These two teams are considered to be the favourites in this edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and this game would give us a fair idea about where they stand as a team, in terms of balance, composition and most importantly, acclimatizing to the conditions. Stay tuned for more updates...
