Commentary
Welcome back. The players and the umpires are back in the middle. Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Reeza Hendricks to open the innings for South Africa. It will be Matt Henry with the ball for New Zealand. Here we go!
…THE RUN CHASE…
Right then, South Africa needs 181 to chase this down and claim the Tri-Series Trophy. Can they do it, or will New Zealand come hard with the ball and defend this score to get their hands on the title? We shall find out soon. Join us in a bit for the second essay.
Lungi Ngidi is up for a chat. He says that the main thing when New Zealand were attacking was to try and keep things simple. Adds that anything pitched up was going for runs, so he changed his length and attacked the stumps to be more effective. Says that he would have taken 180, especially after the start that New Zealand got. Ends by saying that he is fine and there are no issues.
South Africa did not have the best of starts with the ball, but they did well to come back strong after the halfway mark in the game. Lungi Ngidi was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets while Senuran Muthusamy, Kwena Maphaka, and Nandre Burger took one each. South Africa have not been at their best so far with the bat but will need to play well if they are to chase 181 and claim their hands on the trophy.
A solid batting effort from the Black Caps takes them to an impressive score of 180/5 from the 20 overs. Having been asked to bat first, New Zealand got off to a flying start with Tim Seifert and Devon Conway adding 75 for the opening wicket. Conway and Rachin Ravindra carried on after the dismissal of Tim Seifert, but the wickets of Conway and Ravindra slowed down the momentum and made it hard for New Zealand to find the boundaries. Daryl Mitchell and Michael Bracewell tried hard but had to settle for 180, which at one stage looked like crossing 200.

Commentary
And that wraps up the Tri-Nation Series, with New Zealand crowned champions after an unbeaten run throughout the tournament. It’s now time for the trophy presentation as the Kiwi skipper Mitchell Santner steps up, joins his teammates, and lifts the silverware high before posing for the cameras. Up next, the Kiwis shift focus to a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe, starting on 30th July. As for South Africa, they will lock horns with Australia in a three-match T20I series, beginning on 10th August. As always, make sure to join us early for all the action. Until then, it’s goodbye and cheers!
Mitchell Santner, the victorious skipper of New Zealand, says they hung in there and reckons 180 was a good total. Adds that they would have wanted a few more, but South Africa bowled well in the death. Adds that this was the best surface and says that the guys have stepped up throughout the series. Tells this was a tough one, but the boys did well to get over the line. Mentions that his conversation with Henry was to make Brevis hit to the bigger side as picking up wickets was there only chance to win the game.
Matt Henry is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH AND SERIES (2 wickets in this game and 10 wickets overall). He says that as a group, they played some good cricket, and it was a tight game. Adds that they had to drag the length back and adapt to it as the Proteas got a good start, and they wanted to keep it tight and take the game deep. Shares that the World Cup is coming up in a few months, and the home series as well, so they have to be in good rhythm. Closes by adding that they have plenty of nice options in the team, and they are looking to go upwards from here.
Rassie van der Dussen, the captain of South Africa, says that he is proud of his team's performance. Add that he does not think they slipped up, as just a centimeter here and there, and the result would have been different. Mentions that they have tried a few different things and selected the strongest combination in this game. Says that they will learn a lot from this series and the good thing is that everyone has contributed.
Presentation Time...
New Zealand endured a tough time in the Powerplay but stayed patient and capitalized on their chances when they came. Michael Bracewell provided the crucial first breakthrough, with the rest of the attack backing him up well. The Kiwis were on the back foot for most of the chase, but sensational catches from Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell in the last over, helping Henry defend just 6 runs, sealed a thrilling win in the final.
Earlier, New Zealand put up a strong total, thanks to solid contributions from their top three, with useful cameos from the rest of the lineup. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi led the charge with a couple of wickets, while Nandre Burger, Kwena Maphaka, and Senuran Muthusamy picked up one each. They managed to pull things back well in the death overs, preventing the Kiwis from running away with the score.
South Africa began the chase in style, with both openers scoring freely and stitching together a 92-run stand for the first wicket. Lhuan-dre Pretorius played a fine knock, bringing up his fifty, but the momentum shifted as both openers departed in quick succession. The middle order couldn’t quite find its rhythm, yet Dewald Brevis injected life into the innings with a blistering 31 off just 16 balls, reducing the equation to 7 runs needed from the final over. However, his dismissal at a crucial moment proved decisive, as the Proteas ultimately fell agonizingly short by 3 runs.
What a finale that was! South Africa seemed to have the chase under control for the most part, but some exceptional death bowling and a couple of stunning catches turned the tide in New Zealand’s favor. The Kiwis pull off a heist to finish the Tri-Series unbeaten, proving yet again that they can snatch victory from any situation. Heartbreak for the Proteas, who fought hard but fell just short in the end.

With momentum firmly with New Zealand and South Africa hungry for redemption, the 2025 Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Series final is set to be a thrilling finale.
The Black Caps have not only registered dominant wins over both South Africa and Zimbabwe twice each, but have also looked composed and clinical in all departments. They will be eager to maintain their unbeaten run and cap off a dominant campaign with the trophy.
Hello and welcome to our coverage of the Final in the Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Series 2025. Today’s highly anticipated clash features South Africa taking on New Zealand at the iconic Harare Sports Club. New Zealand have been the standout performer of the tournament, cruising through the group stage unbeaten. South Africa, on the other hand, have had a more turbulent journey. They enter the final with two wins, both against Zimbabwe, and two losses, both at the hands of New Zealand. The Proteas know they’ll need a markedly improved performance to overcome the Black Caps in the final.
…MATCHDAY…
The 2025 Zimbabwe Tri-Nation Series culminates in a highly anticipated final between two cricketing powerhouses, New Zealand and South Africa. New Zealand has been the dominant force in this tri-series, showcasing a flawless record in the group stages. They have convincingly defeated both South Africa and hosts Zimbabwe twice, demonstrating their strong form and adaptability to the Zimbabwean conditions. Their most recent victory over South Africa, a seven-wicket win where they chased down 134 with 25 balls to spare, highlighted their batting depth and efficient bowling. Tim Seifert's unbeaten 66 in that match was a standout performance, building on earlier contributions from players like Devon Conway and Ish Sodhi, who took four wickets against Zimbabwe in an earlier encounter. The Black Caps' all-round performance has instilled confidence as they head into the final. South Africa, while securing their spot in the final, has had a more mixed run. They bounced back from their initial loss to New Zealand with a crucial win against Zimbabwe, effectively eliminating the hosts from contention. Their batting has shown flashes of brilliance, particularly with Rubin Hermann's maiden international half-century and Rassie van der Dussen's consistent contributions. However, their top order has at times struggled to set imposing totals, and their bowling, while capable, will need to be at its sharpest to contain the in-form New Zealand batting lineup. New Zealand holds a clear psychological advantage, having defeated South Africa in both their previous encounters in the series. The Black Caps' bowlers have managed to restrict the Proteas effectively, and their batsmen have found ways to score freely against the South African attack. This history will undoubtedly be on the minds of both teams as they step onto the field for the biggest match of the tournament. This final promises to be a captivating contest, with both teams vying for supremacy in a crucial lead-up to future international assignments. Expect a hard-fought battle where individual brilliance and tactical acumen will play a significant role in determining the champion of the 2025 Zimbabwe Tri-Series.
