Commentary

Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where Scotland knocks Oman out of the World Cup and goes top of their group for now. Next up is a tasty clash between South Africa and Bangladesh on 10th June, Monday. That game will start at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT), but as you know, you can join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Richie Berrington, the victorious skipper of Scotland says he’s very pleased, it is an important win. Adds the bowlers did well to bring it back, the spinners too did well. Mentions they tried bowling the right lines and lengths and they defended the small side quite well. Ends by saying the openers got them into a strong position which freed up the middle order up.

Aqib Ilyas, the captain of Oman says that it was a good toss to win but they could not utilise in the death overs. Adds that they played a lot of dot balls in the middle overs and you just cannot do that in a T20 game. Tells that they could have scored 170-175 and thing could have been different. Credits Scotland for their batting and using the shorter side which they could not. Mentions that, this was also a good total to defend but when you are dropping that many chances, the batters will punish you and that was the case here. Says that they still want to take all the positives into the next game and this is cricket, you lose some, you win some.

Brandon McMullen is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his amazing knock. He says he feels awesome, he wanted to use the breeze to their advantage and it worked for them. Adds the main priority was to win the game but during the break they decided to go for the net run rate.

Presentation Time...

Nothing much to talk about the Oman bowling effort here. Their pacers did well initially but the spinners could not make much impact. The wind blowing to the shorter side did not help that as well and their catching also let them down as they dropped quite a few chances. Aqib Ilyas, Mehran Khan, and Bilal Khan picked up one wicket each but that was never going to be enough. Earlier, they managed to post a fighting total on the board courtesy of a gritty fifty from Pratik Athavale and a good knock from Ayaan Khan. However, their bowlers were just not upto the task and Scotland picked up a comfortable win here.

Scotland got off the blocks quickly with both the openers playing a few lusty blows. Michael Jones got out early but George Munsey took the Oman bowlers to the cleaners. When he was attacking, Brandon McMullen held the other end and supported well. Once, his partner got out, McMullen also went to overdrive and took the oppurtunity to improve the NRR. He smashed a brilliant half-century while Matthew Cross also flexed his muscles towards the end. Fittingly, it was Brandon McMullen who hit the winning runs and stayed unbeaten to take his side home.

Scotland moves inches closer to the Super 8's now! A comprehensive win for them and they have chased this down with almost seven overs to spare. This not only put them in a strong position of making it to the next round but also put a lot of pressure on England. Oman have lost all three of their games but they gave a good account of themselves in this World Cup and will take a lot of lessons from it.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The players are making their way out to the middle now. George Munsey and Michael Jones are the two openers for Scotland. Bilal Khan to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Scotland will be pleased with how they pulled things back after going for a few in the Powerplay. Their spinners were good and so was Brad Wheal. Safyaan Sharif and Chris Sole though went for a few. The two almost went at 10 per over and that could prove to be the difference. Scotland should still fancy themselves to chase this down but Oman will not make it easy. Stay tuned for the chase in a bit.

Mark Watt is up for a quick chat. He says that it is important to change the line and lengths and vary pace as well on these type of wickets. Adds that they were good in the middle phase and have restricted Oman to a total where they fancy themselves to chase it down. Tells that Khalid Kail was a bit sneaky on that delivery, where he was ready but then pulled out. He thinks that it was a legal delivery but these things happen in cricket. Says that their batters should target the Powerplay, take it deep and be busy against the spinners.

Oman have got to a middling total. They were in a position to get a lot more but whenever they tried to up the ante, they managed to lose a wicket. They were off to a quick start in the Powerplay. Pratik Athavale batted really well and was the mainstay with a good half-century. The middle order though got off to starts but none went on to make most of it. Had it not been for Ayaan Khan, they would not even crossed the 140-run mark but in the end, they have a competitive total.

We are done with the pre-match formalities! The Scotland players spread out from the huddle and take their respective field positions. Pratik Athavale and Naseem Khushi are the two openers for Oman. We will some spin straightaway as Mark Watt has the new ball in hand. Let's play...

The two umpires walk out to the middle followed by players from both sides who line up for their respective national anthems. It will be Scotland's first followed by the national anthem of Oman.

Scotland in their last game showed they are team full of match winners and don't just rely on a player or two. It was their skipper and Leask who helped them topple Namibia. They would be eager to go 2 in 2 now which will boost their chances of going through to the next round massively. They are favourites and on paper are surely the better side. Stay tuned for toss and other updates.

The World Cup is moving along at a rapid pace and we are into game number 20. It is a clash between Oman and Scotland. The former are yet to win a game in the tournament. They lost one in the first Super Over of the tournament and the one against the Aussies. This probably is a must win game for them if they are going to have a chance of going through to the next round. They though are up against a Scottish side who are really high on confidence. Can they upset the odds?

... MATCH DAY ...

Another day and another crucial game in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup and up next, is a Group B clash that sees high-flying Scotland take on Oman in Match number 20. The match will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in NorthSound, Antigua and given how the group has stacked up so far, a win for Scotland will see them get into a wonderful position to make it through to the next stage of the competition. Oman, who are on the brink of elmination, have played some excellent cricket in patches but a loss here and they will be out of the competition. Scotland had a wash out in their first game against England but in that game, they batted for 10 overs and showed some real prowess as the two openers remained unbeaten and stitched together 90 runs. In their next game against Namibia, they were clinical and were able to chase down 150-odd runs without much of a fuss. Skipper, Richie Berrington starred with a knock of 47 runs but it was a fine all-round display from Michael Leask that really got them the win. Scotland have had quite a settled side for a few years now in this format of the game and are looking confident of rally challenging the big guns. Oman on the other hand almost pulled off a fine win against Namibia in their opening fixture only to suffer heartbreak in the Super Over. They again bowled really well against Australi for more than half of the innings but again, their batting display in the Powerplay let them down. Mehran Khan has been the consistent performer for them with the ball but they really need to step up with the bat. Skipper, Aqib Ilyas and former skipper Zeeshan Maqsood will be key as they have shown glimpses of what they can do and the openers will be raring to showcase their abilities after a couple of slim outings. An enticing contest on the cards and Oman might not be quite able to do enough to make the cut for the next round but they can surely make a huge dent in Scotland's aspirations. Who are you backing to get the win?
