Australia beat Pakistan by 3 wickets

Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore

That's a wrap, Australia complete their tour of Pakistan without any off-field issues, and the host nation must be praised for all its efforts in making this tour possible. The Aussies were here for the first time since 1998, and we witnessed some quality action across all formats. They won the Test series, and Pakistan took the ODI series. You can treat this one-off T20I as a tie-breaker, but that sounds slightly unfair. If this was a multi-series format, frequently used in Women's cricket, then Australia would have won it 12-8. Alright then, that's your lot for the evening. You can keep checking the fixture page for all the upcoming matches. Until we meet again, it's goodbye and cheers!

Aaron Finch, the captain of Australia, is also the Player of the Match. He is thrilled with the bowling performance of his young group. Praises Nathan Ellis who had a tough start but then showed great character to come back. Adds that everything they do in the shorter formats is with one eye on the World Cup. He is very proud of his boys and feels the resilience they have shown is incredible. Further says that a few young guys have come up and it's super exciting for Australia. Mentions that after the kind of start Pakistan got, it was always nice to restrict them to 162. Lauds the bowling of Green and chuckles while saying that they are glad they don't have to bowl to Babar Azam for a while now. States that they are very grateful for being the first team to come to Pakistan in 24 years and thanks the fans and the PCB for everything.

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, comes up to have a word. Says that the way they started it was very good but then the back-to-back wickets slowed them down with the bat. Mentions that they don't have much time left for the next T20 World Cup and this game was a good opportunity for Usman Qadir as both their frontline spinners were unfit. He then goes on to thank the Australian team for coming here to play all three formats of the game and hopes that they enjoyed the hospitality.

Stay tuned for the interviews...

The main reason for Pakistan's loss is their batting. They started strongly and looked set for a score around 200. However, after the halfway mark, they lost the plot. It was a steady procession of wickets for them and that stole the momentum away from their innings. With 162 on the board, you can fight in these conditions but for winning, you need a bit more than that. Usman Qadir and Mohammed Wasim were brilliant to pick two wickets each but their efforts went in vain eventually.

In pursuit of a below-par total, Travis Head showed positive intent at the start to set the tone and Aaron Finch also got some form back with the bat. The Aussies raced away to 63 runs in the Powerplay - their best score against Pakistan during that phase in this format and then capitalized on the start. Josh Inglis, who spent the entire time in quarantine during the ODIs, released all his frustration with a quickfire knock and kept the required rate honest. There was a flurry of wickets but Aaron Finch held one end tightly, scored a fifty and took Australia close to the victory line. The game needlessly got close and the knocks of Ben McDermott and Marcus Stoinis turned out to be very crucial.

What an entertaining chase and Australia nearly made a mess! Things got a bit interesting with the fall of wickets but the required rate was always in control and Australia eventually got home. The 19th over bowled by Shaheen Afridi was a thing of beauty as he gave his team an outside chance but Ben McDermott kept a clam head to see the Aussies over the line.

19.1 4

FOUR! There it is, Ben McDermott scores the winning runs. Haris Rauf steams in and tries to bowl a toe-crushing yorker but errs in line and McDermott keeps his cool and just helps it on its way off his legs to find the deep backward square leg fence. Australia get the final say on the tour and they have won a 'thrilling' contest by 3 wickets!

We're down to the final over. 4 needed off 6! Can Haris Rauf do it?

Aaron Finch whips it off the toe end of the bat and the ball flies towards the square leg fence. Asif Ali over there remains cool as a cucumber and takes a fine catch, inches inside the boundary line. The third umpire has a quick check to confirm the catch and he is satisfied. Finch departs after a good comeback knock.

FOUR! 14 from the over and Australia are off to a fantastic start! Shaheen delivers it on a length and outside off at 137.7 kph, Head hangs on the back foot and heaves it off the inner half of his bat. It flies over wide mid on and goes for a boundary.

Back of a length, on off, at 139.1 kph again, Head defends it from the back foot.

0.4 4

MISFIELD AND FOUR! Shaheen spears in yet another full ball, around middle at 139 clicks, Head whips it in front of square on the leg side and it scoots away. Khushdil Shah moves across to his right in the deep but overruns a shade and allows it through.

0.3 lb 4

FOUR LEG BYES! Bonus runs for Australia. Shaheen spears it in, very full and around leg at 140.1 kph, Head is beaten due to the pace and fails to flick. It though clips his pads and races down to fine leg.

0.2 0

Beaten all ends up! Shaheen clocks 136.1 kph and serves it on a fuller length outside off, shaping in off the seam, Head tries to drive but is beaten on the inside edge. Rizwan collects and appeals, Shaheen joins but nothing from the umpire.

0.1 2

Shaheen steams in and starts with a full ball around off, Head flicks it in the gap at mid-wicket and opens his account with a couple of runs. The chase is away!

We are back for the chase! The Australian opening pair of Travis Head and skipper Aaron Finch is at the middle. Shaheen Afridi has the ball in hand and he is ready to steam in. Let's go...

... The Run Chase ...

Right then! Australia need 163 runs to win and from what we have seen from this surface in the ODI series, it should not be a difficult chase by any means. Pakistan though have a lot of firepower with the ball and will be in search of early wickets. One final innings before the tour ends and neither team will back down. The exciting run chase coming up.

The Australian dressing room will be mightily pleased with that bowling effort. They have a young pace attack but apart from Ben Dwarshuis who had an outing to forget on debut, everyone else was just right on the money. T20I debutant Cameron Green got the visitors going with a double whammy in his first over and the experienced Sean Abbott and Adam Zampa kept the scoring rate in check. It was then young Nathan Ellis, who seems to be going from strength to strength, and after being hit for 14 runs in his first over made a statement with a four-wicket haul to rock the opposition.

After a thunderous start with the bat, Pakistan were rocked by a double-blow by Cameron Green in the 8th over and from there everything seemed to go downhill. Babar Azam looked in fine form to start with but as the wickets kept tumbling, his scoring rate went down. Azam did get to yet another half century but fell soon after. Apart from Khushdil Shah, no other batter in the Pakistani middle-order could muster up runs and it was a spirited cameo in the final over by Usman Qadir that has taken Pakistani to a sort of a defendable score.

Top drawer stuff from the Aussie bowlers but that last over from Ben Dwarshuis has spoiled things a bit. Still, they have done extremely well to restrict Pakistan to a score of just 162 runs which truth be told is well below par on this surface. The key to this successful bowling display was the regularity with which the Aussies picked up wickets and after the opening partnership never allowed another stand to brew.

There is some noise as it goes to the keeper and they appeal. The UltraEdge finds no wood and the noise was of the bat clipping the flap of the back pad.

OUT! BRILLIANTLY CAUGHT! Beautiful slower one, on a length and outside off at 113.4 kph, Shaheen throws his bat at it and gets a big top edge towards covers. Marcus Stoinis sprints across to his left from point, keeps his eyes on the ball as he stretches to grab it with both hands. The ball pops out initially as he goes down but he does well to snap it with his right hand. The umpires quickly get it checked upstairs and it's a clean catch. It's a procession for Pakistan. OUT! BOWLED 'EM! Cameron Green strikes to get the breakthrough and also his maiden T20I wicket. Lovely deception from the big man. He rolls his fingers over the ball and serves a cutter outside off at 121.3 kph. It lands just outside off, Mohammad Rizwan shuffles across a bit to flick but misses and it perhaps takes a bit of inside edge before going on to demolish the stumps. Green is pumped up and a disappointed Rizwan returns.

Physio comes out. Mohammad Rizwan does seem a bit uncomfortable out there and the last couple of balls haven't made it any easier. The physio applies some magic spray and the players take this opportunity to take a breather as well. Who will bowl from the opposite end? It's going to be the debutant, Ben Dwarshuis.

SIX! Here we go! Mohammad Rizwan wasn't going to let the part-timer off the hook so easily. On middle again and this is slogged away over the mid-wicket fence for the first maximum of the innings. 10 off the first over!

Head starts from 'round the wicket and bowls it full on middle. Mohammad Rizwan is off the mark straightaway with a wristy drive down to long on for a single.

It's time to get underway! The Aussies are taking the field. The crowd has been very vocal. Out come Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam to open for Pakistan. Aaron Finch is beginning with the part-time spin of Travis Head. Let's play...

We are moments away from the start of the match! But first, the two sets of players line up for their respective national anthems. It will be Australia's national anthem first followed by the national anthem of Pakistan.

PITCH REPORT - Robert Key is pitchside and informs that it's the same surface that was used during the second ODI. He says that batting first or second won't matter much as it is a lovely batting surface but the spinners might have a say. Adds that there is a bit of dew but not that much and 180 is a minimum requisite batting first.

Australia (Playing XI) - Aaron Finch (C), Travis Head, Josh Inglis (WK), Marnus Labuschagne (On T20I debut), Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Green (On T20I debut), Ben McDermott, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis (On debut), Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa.

Pakistan (Playing XI) - Babar Azam (C), Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Asif Ali, Mohammad Wasim, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf and Usman Qadir.

TOSS - Up goes the flip of the coin and it lands in Australia's favour. They have elected to BOWL first.

Babar Azam and his troops are currently enjoying a purple patch and they will be charged up for one final match in this tour. The hosts were ever so dominant in last year's T20 World Cup but faltered in the semis and coincidentally it was Australia who ended their hopes then. They have become a top T20 side and will look to hand their opponents a third defeat in a row on this tour and get a bit of revenge for that semi-final loss as well. So, will the Aussies be able to end the tour on a high? Or will the hosts take bragging rights? We'll find out soon. Toss and team sheets in a bit.

Australia are the reigning World T20 Champions but will have to field a very different side to the one that featured regularly in that tournament due to the unavailability of their star players. The visitors still have a plethora of talent in their ranks and skipper Aaron Finch will be looking to turn a new leaf and lead from the front tonight against a rejuvenated Pakistani team.

Hello and a warm welcome to the final match of Australia's tour of Pakistan and we end the tour with a one-off T20I contest. Two teams who have been dominant in this format in the last year or so go head-to-head in the shortest format of the game at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and a tasty encounter is on the cards.
