Commentary

A flawless 3-0 triumph - That brings the curtain down on both the game and the series, with Pakistan clinching a dominant 3-0 win as captain Salman Agha lifts the trophy alongside his jubilant teammates and poses for some pictures behind the Winners' banner. With silverware secured, both sides now turn their focus to the warm-up fixtures ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, where Pakistan face Ireland on Wednesday, 4 February, and Australia take on the Netherlands on Thursday, 5 February. Thanks for joining us for the coverage, and there is still plenty of cricket to enjoy, with Sri Lanka and England currently locking horns in the second T20I, just a tab away. Cheers!

The victorious skipper of Pakistan -  Salman Agha is also the PLAYER OF THE SERIES (120 runs). He says it was a complete team effort and that they performed well in all departments, thoroughly dominating the Australian side. He shares that he is in a great frame of mind and hopes to continue his good form with the bat during the World Cup. He praises Shaheen Afridi for being outstanding whenever he plays and adds that Naseem Shah also did a wonderful job. Salman mentions that captaincy becomes easier when you have world-class spinners, calling it a 'good headache' for the team. With multiple spin options available, he feels the team may not even need his bowling. He signed off by saying that Pakistan have been fielding well since the Asia Cup and were keen to make a strong mark in the series.

The captain of Australia - Mitchell Marsh says that Pakistan outplayed them throughout the series. Adds that there are a lot of learnings to take forward, but they need to address them quickly. Mentions that it was hard to chase on this surface, and they needed partnerships, which they could not get. Tells that they need to improve in that aspect and do better in the World Cup. Says that they had an exciting time here, and thanks Pakistan for the hospitality, but now is looking forward to going to Sri Lanka for the big event. Ends by saying that the crowd has been great, calls Pakistan a cricket-loving country, and says they enjoyed their time here.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH is Mohammad Nawaz (5/18) - He says the conditions were helpful, and the aim was always to make an impact for the team. He adds that sticking to the basics was the key, and the pitch offered good assistance. Nawaz explains that his focus was to keep the ball away from the hitting arc of the Australian batters, bowling in good areas rather than into their strengths.

Presentation Time...

Pakistan's bowlers run riot - Pakistan produced yet another dominant bowling performance, led once again by their spin attack that ruled the series. The tone was set early when Shaheen Afridi removed the Australian captain in the very first over, as he so often does, before finishing with two wickets, while Abrar Ahmed chipped in with one and Naseem Shah applied the finishing touches. But the star of the show was Mohammad Nawaz, who spun a web around the Australian batters with a sensational 5/18, his career-best figures, underlining why Pakistan will be such a force to reckon with in the spin-friendly conditions awaiting them at the World Cup in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan's 200-plus statement - Earlier in the game, Pakistan tore into the Australian attack to cross the 200-run mark for the first time in the rivalry, posting their highest-ever T20I total against them in a breathtaking display of power and control. Saim Ayub provided the early spark with a dazzling half-century, before Babar Azam and Shadab Khan seized complete command through the middle and death overs. Babar held the innings together with a classy unbeaten 50, while Shadab went into overdrive with a brutal 46 off just 19 balls to blow the game wide open. Australia simply could not stem the flow, with Matthew Kuhnemann the lone bowler to show some control, while Dwarshuis took a couple of wickets but the rest, including Zampa, were taken apart as Pakistan powered their way to a landmark total.

Australia unravel in a spin trap - Australia's chase never found any momentum as they lost both openers inside the first two overs and slipped to a disastrous 16/3. Stoinis and Green tried to revive things with knocks in their 20s, but they were the only batters to cross that mark as wickets kept tumbling. The visitors looked completely out of sorts against spin, relying almost entirely on sweeps that brought little reward, and with seven batters falling for single-digit scores, the collapse only deepened. It summed up a miserable series with the bat, where not a single Australian batter managed to register a fifty across the entire tour. Zampa, sidelined by a groin injury from the first innings, could not bat, and Australia were eventually bundled out for well under 100 in a one-sided finish.

Pakistan march into the World Cup with a clean sweep - Pakistan wrapped up a dominant clean sweep over Australia with a thumping win, handing them their biggest-ever T20I defeat in terms of margin of runs, carrying huge confidence and momentum into the global showpiece. For Australia, there are big questions to answer, especially around their struggles against spin, a challenge they will have to solve quickly with the World Cup just around the corner.

Adam Zampa is unfit to take any more part in the match and is given as absent hurt.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The players are already out in the middle now. Mitchell Marsh and Matthew Short are the two openers for Australia. Shaheen Afridi to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

…THE RUN CHASE…

Big chase coming up - Now, with a target of 208 to chase, Australia will need a monumental batting effort if they are to end the tour on a high. Can they pull it off, or will Pakistan complete a series whitewash? We’ll find out soon. Stay tuned for the second essay.

A quick chat - Babar Azam says it was nice to contribute towards the team and reckons it is a good total. Adds that the conditions were not easy and you needed to take your time to adapt. Mentions that you need to be positive according to the situation and see what score you want to get. Tells that getting partnerships in the middle is important, the batting number does not matter much but the team plan does. Says that these 3 matches have been crucial for the World Cup preparation and the team has been executing the plans well. Ends by saying that they are always trying to improve on the field and the plan remains the same going forward. Before leaving, he says Lahore loves cricket and acknowledges the support from the fans.

Australia's bowling woes continue -  For Australia, it was another challenging day with the ball, as they struggled to contain the runs and failed to pick up wickets at crucial moments. Ben Dwarshuis stood out with two wickets, while Kuhnemann, Short, Connolly, and Green took one each. Kuhnemann was particularly impressive, but the others went for plenty of runs.

Pakistan's batting catches fire - After electing to bat, Pakistan lost Fakhar Zaman and Agha Salman early in the Powerplay, but Saim Ayub and Babar Azam steadied the innings with a 69-run partnership. Ayub fell shortly after reaching his fifty, while Nafay contributed a useful knock in the middle overs. The innings truly ignited with Shadab Khan’s fireworks, as he smashed 46 off just 19 balls and combined with Babar Azam for a rapid 57-run stand. Babar anchored the innings beautifully, finishing unbeaten on 50. At the death, Faheem Ashraf added some lusty blows, pushing Pakistan past the 200-run mark and setting the stage for an exciting contest.

Pakistan go big - An electrifying batting display from Pakistan propelled them to a massive 207/6 in their 20 overs. The final five overs yielded a staggering 70 runs as the home side launched a relentless assault on the opposition bowlers.

19.55nb

NO BALL AND FOUR! Not ideal from Cameron Green. He loses his grip and bowls a high full toss, outside off. Faheem Ashraf is not going to miss out on that and carves it over point for a boundary. It is called a No Ball as this is above the waist of the batter. Free Hit to follow. Also, 200 up for Pakistan.

19.41

FIFTY FOR BABAR AZAM! A much-needed knock from him and this will give a lot of confidence going into the World Cup. Just what Pakistan would have hoped for in this series. This is short again and on middle, Babar Azam gets hurried onto his pull. Gets a top edge that lands safely into the vacant square leg region. They cross. He raises his bat to soak in all the applause.

19.2W

OUT! TAKEN! Cameron Green gets a wicket now. He goes hard into the pitch, on middle, gets some extra bounce off the deck. Mohammad Nawaz tries to pull it away but the ball gets big on him. He also ends up hitting it much straighter towards long on, where Matthew Short takes a simple catch. Pakistan are 194/6 now.

DRINKS! Pakistan have gone further ahead in the game, with the wicket of Marcus Stoinis. Australia recovered from the early loss of wickets, but will have to once again start from the bottom. However, the problem for them is that the new batters cannot really take much time, with the pressure of the asking rate. With the series already gone, it will be interesting to see how they approach this now. Whether they go all out attack and don't think much about losing wickets, or try to take this one deep. Also, Josh Philippe walks out to bat now.

OUT! TAKEN! That is an excellent catch in the deep, and Matthew Kuhnemann breaks the budding 69-run partnership here. He tosses it up, full and on middle, turns in a bit. Saim Ayub goes down on one knee and tries to slog sweep but the ball just spins a bit more. It flies off the bottom edge towards deep square leg, where Matt Renshaw moves to his left, has a glance at Cameron Green at deep mid-wicket, who is not going for the catch. Renshaw then starts to sprint and dives to take a fantastic catch. Ayub walks back for a fluent 56 off 37, and Pakistan are 103/3 now.

All in readiness for the final game of the series! We can see the Aussies in a huddle before they spread out and take their respective field positions. Fakhar Zaman is back into his favoured batting position and will open the innings for Pakistan alongside Saim Ayub. Also, we will see spin straightaway as Matthew Kuhnemann has the new ball in hand. Let's play...

PITCH REPORT - Bazid Khan and Urooj Mumtaz are pitchside. Bazid notes that it's the same pitch used in the first game. He points out that since it’s a used surface, there will be a bit more spin, and the pace won't carry and it won’t come onto the bat easily. He praises the curators for doing an excellent job producing a dry pitch in these conditions. Bazid adds that Pakistan's spinners are slower than Australia's, and that extra slowness allows them to extract more from the surface. He explains that it's challenging to build innings on pitches that don't come onto the bat. Urooj further comments that ramp shots and playing behind the wicket are particularly difficult on such pitches. She suggests that one way to counter this is by stepping down the pitch and attacking the ball when it's bowled slowly. She concludes by emphasizing that batters can actually take the initiative because Pakistani bowlers are giving them that chance. Ultimately, it's fair to say that spin will play a significant role.

Australia (Playing XI) - Mitchell Marsh (C), Matthew Short, Cameron Green, Matt Renshaw, Marcus Stoinis (In place of Travis Head), Josh Philippe (WK) (In place of Josh Inglis), Mitchell Owen (In place of Xavier Bartlett), Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis (In place of Sean Abbott), Matthew Kuhnemann, Adam Zampa.

Pakistan (Playing XI) - Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman (In place of Sahibzada Farhan), Salman Agha (C), Babar Azam, Khawaja Nafay (WK) (In place of Usman Khan), Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Afridi (In place of Usman Tariq), Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed.

The captain of Australia - Mitchell Marsh says that hopefully they can restrict Pakistan to a chasable score. Adds that they have had the chance to look at the conditions in the first two games and need to respond to them in this game. Mentions that there will obviously be a lot of spin in the World Cup. Says that they need to take the lessons from this series and it is important they end the series with a win. Informs that they have made four changes but he can't remember any of them.

The skipper of Pakistan - Salman Agha explains that the pitch tends to slow down after the first 10 overs, so the plan is to attack early, especially during the Powerplay. He adds that having five spinners at their disposal is a luxury and says he’s pleased with the balance of the side. Agha notes that the team has ticked most of the boxes and is focused on playing good cricket. He also confirms three changes to the XI, with Khawaja Nafay, Fakhar Zaman, and Shaheen Afridi coming into the side for Usman Khan, Usman Tariq, and Sahibzada Farhan.

TOSS - It's three out of three for Salman Agha in this series. Pakistan elected to BAT first.

Final showdown - The Lahore pitches have tended to assist the spinners, posing an added challenge for the Australian lineup. Can they adapt and bounce back, or will Pakistan maintain their momentum and complete a 3–0 clean sweep? We’ll find out shortly. Toss and team news coming up shortly. Stay tuned.

Australia look to rebound - Australia, on the other hand, have found the tour challenging, with inconsistent performances across departments. Cameron Green, Xavier Bartlett, and Adam Zampa have been among the positives so far, but the visitors will be hoping for stronger contributions from the rest of the squad. Much will depend on the batting trio of Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Josh Inglis, while Matthew Kuhnemann will be tasked with leading the bowling attack alongside Cooper Connolly and Sean Abbott. With an eye on the upcoming T20 World Cup, Australia may also use this opportunity to give game time to a few squad members.

Pakistan dominates the series - Pakistan have been in commanding form throughout the series, comprehensively outplaying Australia in both encounters. The second T20I was particularly emphatic, as the hosts cruised to a dominant 90-run victory. After being put in to bat, Pakistan posted an imposing 198/5, powered by aggressive half-centuries from Salman Agha and Usman Khan. Shadab Khan produced a fine all-round display, contributing valuable runs and picking up three wickets, while Abrar Ahmed, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Nawaz, and Usman Tariq bowled with discipline and control to exploit the conditions superbly. With the series already secured, Pakistan may look to rotate their squad and test their bench strength as they eye a series whitewash.

Pakistan eye a clean sweep - Hello and welcome to our coverage of the third and final T20I between Pakistan and Australia, from the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Pakistan have already wrapped up the series with an unassailable 2–0 lead and will be keen to complete a clean sweep, while Australia will be eager to restore some pride and end the tour on a positive note.

…MATCHDAY...

Match intro - With the series already in the bag, Pakistan enter the final T20I in Lahore with their sights set on a 3-0 whitewash. After a clinical 90-run thrashing of Australia in the second game, the hosts have proved far too strong for a visiting side missing several key stars. For Mitchell Marsh’s Australia, this is the final chance to salvage pride and find some rhythm before the T20 World Cup begins in a matter of days. Dominance from the top - Pakistan’s new-look batting order is firing on all cylinders. Skipper Salman Agha has vindicated his promotion to number three, following up a brisk start in the opener with a blistering 76 off 40 balls in the second match. His ability to manipulate the field and dominate the middle overs has been the cornerstone of Pakistan’s aggressive approach. However, the spotlight remains on Babar Azam. While the team is winning, the former captain’s transition to number four has been bumpy, evidenced by his 5-ball stay for just 2 runs in the previous outing. With the World Cup looming, Pakistan will be desperate for Babar to find his touch in this new role. On a more positive note, Usman Khan has emerged as a reliable middle-order force, striking a composed half-century to ensure Pakistan capitalize on their strong starts. On the bowling front, the spin-to-win strategy has been devastating. In the second T20I, Pakistani spinners took all ten Australian wickets, with Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan bamboozling the tourists. Given the success of the slow bowlers, Pakistan might even consider resting a frontline pacer to give more overs to the likes of Usman Tariq. Australia searching for answers - Australia’s 'Sri Lanka trial run' has been a wake-up call. While the absence of Maxwell, Cummins, and Hazlewood provides some context, the manner of their collapse against spin being bundled out for 108 in under 16 overs will be a major concern for the coaching staff. Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head have struggled to provide the explosive starts they are known for, leaving a massive burden on Cameron Green and Matthew Short. The silver lining has been Adam Zampa. The leg-spinner continues to be Pakistan's kryptonite, dismissing Babar Azam for the fifth time in T20Is during the second game. Outside of Zampa, the attack has looked toothless on these surfaces, and Australia may look to shuffle their pace pack, perhaps giving another opportunity to young Mahli Beardman to see if they can find a breakthrough against Pakistan’s settled top order. Team form (Last 5 completed T20Is, most recent first) - PAK - WWLWW | AUS - LLLLW. The whitewash surface? The Gaddafi Stadium has progressively become a spinner's paradise. The second game saw the ball gripping and turning sharply, making life miserable for anyone trying to hit across the line. If the same strip is used for the finale, expect more of the same. Australia must find a way to use their feet and play with the spin, or they risk a third consecutive heavy defeat before heading to the big stage.
