Commentary

Right then, that is it from this game and two arch-rivals, India and Pakistan have secured their places in the semifinals with a couple of spots still to be filled. On Wednesday, the 4th of October we will witness the remaining two quarterfinals and in the first game, Afghanistan will take on Sri Lanka at 6.30 am IST (1 am GMT). This will be followed by a match-up between Bangladesh and Malaysia starting at 11.30 am IST (6 am GMT). Both matches will be played at the same venue and you can join us in advance for the build-up as well. Cheers!

Hong Kong will be slightly disheartened with that batting display, particularly the way the middle order just crumbled against the Pakistani spinners. They did play well in patches and bowled extremely well but lost the plot and the very final over of the first innings from Ayush Shukla might have picked have a couple of wickets but he conceded 26 runs as well which handed the mental advantage to the opposition going into the break. With the bat, skipper Nizakat Khan made a decent start but lost his opening partner for a duck. It was then Babar Hayat who escaped a stumping chance and mustered up a few runs. But once they lost 4 wickets, it went downhill all too quickly for them and even a couple of little cameos at the death couldn't take them over the 100-run mark.

A very commanding victory then for Pakistan and they have taken a big step forward to get into medal contention as they zoom through into the semifinals. After a fairly difficult start with the bat, the middle order managed to get them back into the contest and the stunning cameo from Aamer Jamal allowed them to get over the 150-run mark. With the ball, however, they made a good start as Arafat Minhas got an early wicket. It was quiet for a while but once they got into that middle order, the likes of Khushdil Shah and Sufiyan Muqeem just ripped through. Slowly but surely enough Pakistan got the job done as skipper Qasim Akram himself came on and picked up the final two wickets.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The players are already out in the middle now. Nizakat Khan and Muhammad Khan are the two openers for Hong Kong. Arshad Iqbal to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Hong Kong, on the other hand, will be somewhat happy with their bowling effort. Ayush Shukla set the tone for them with two early wickets which was followed by another one from Ehsan Khan and a couple more from Anas Khan. They were in control in the middle phase of the game and Mohammad Ghazanfar also picked up three scalps and checked the runs too. However, that last over from Shukla which went for 26 runs put a dent to their overall effort, but he picked two wickets on the last two balls to bowl Pakistan out. Now, it is up to their batters to gun this total down and make it to the semis. Join us in a bit to see how the chase unfolds.

Pakistan was shell-shocked with the quality bowling from Hong Kong and were reduced to 24 for 3 inside the Powerplay. Their top order failed miserably except for opener Omat who got some runs under his belt. Asif Ali and Arafat Minhas did the repair job for them with a 36-run stand but could not stay there till the end as both got out in their 20s. A quick-fire 41 off just 16 balls from Aamer Jamal which includes 26 runs from the last over took them to a decent total in the end and gives their bowlers a good chance in this match.

Despite that very expensive last over, Hong Kong have put in a good show with the ball here and to bowl out a side like Pakistan even if it is a second-string side is an achievement for them. They would have certainly taken 160 at the start of the game and this is a great opportunity for them to cause an upset here.

OUT! CAUGHT! Ayush Shukla ends proceedings with a wicket here. Goes full and wide again, Arshad Iqbal tries to reach out and hit it over deep point but ends up slicing it over backward point. Mohammad Ghazanfar in the deep comes in a bit and takes a safe catch as Shukla finishes with four wickets. 26 runs come off the final over and Pakistan are bundled out for 160 runs.

Arshad Iqbal is the last man in.

19.5W

OUT! CAUGHT! Ayush Shukla does get his man eventually but the damage has been done. This is full and wide, Aamer Jamal stays deep and throws his hands at it, slashing it toward the point fence. The ball just doesn't have enough elevation and Ehsan Khan takes a good catch just inside the ropes. Jamal departs after a stunning cameo though.

19.42

Full and straight, Aamer Jamal clears the front leg and drills it down to the left of long on for a couple of runs. 26 off the over and there are still 2 balls left!

19.36

SIX! Aamer Jamal is playing an absolute blinder here! Poor from Ayush Shukla though as he bowls a juicy full toss on middle. Jamal just hangs deep and thumps it over the mid-wicket fence for a colossal maximum.

19.37nb

SIX! Oh, no! That is a big front-foot no ball from Ayush Shukla and to rub salt into the wounds, Aamer Jamal ends up hitting a one-handed six as well. Slower one around off, Jamal is beaten a bit but goes through with the slog and manages to clear the square leg fence. Free Hit coming up and already 18 runs off the over.

19.31wd

Wide! Looks to go full and attack the pads but ends up serving a full toss down the leg side.

19.24

FOUR! Streaky but Pakistan and Aamer Jamal won't mind that at all. Hard length outside off, Jamal swings wildly at it and gets a thick edge over short third man for a boundary.

19.16

SIX! BANG! Full and straight, right in the slot. Aamer Jamal stays deep in his crease and just smokes it away over the long on fence for a biggie.

Who will bowl the last over? It will be Ayush Shukla (3-0-23-2).

Sufiyan Muqeem walks out to bat now.

18.3W

Tossed-up delivery around off, Arafat Minhas gets down on one knee for the slog-sweep but is a bit late on the shot. The ball takes the higher part of the bat and carries toward long on where Babar Hayat comes in to take a good catch. Minhas' cameo comes to an end.
