Right then. That spells the end of the group stages in the Indian T20 League, 2021. We now know for sure which 4 teams have qualified for the playoffs - Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, and Kolkata. Qualifier 1 will be contested between the top two sides, which will be Delhi and Chennai, and it will be played on Sunday, 10th October 2021 at 6 pm local (2 pm GMT), but, you know the drill, don't you? Join us early for the build-up. Until then, cheers and see ya!

SRIKAR BHARAT HAS BEEN NAMED AS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH! Who else could it have been? What a top knock from him and he is the reason that Bangalore have won this. Well deserved.

Delhi will be very, very disappointed that they have not ended up on the winning side. The game looked to be in control for them when they removed de Villiers, but fate has something else in store for them as Bharat and Maxwell tore through their bowlers and scripted home a famous victory. They started well as three wickets were taken in a timely manner with Anrich Nortje bowling very well and taking 2 early wickets. Avesh Khan, too, just conceded 4 runs in his first spell. But, then, they could not contain and break the stand between the two champs. Over-after-over, the duo of Bharat and Maxwell kept upping the ante and the Delhi bowlers could not find a way to stop them. Their fielding has to be questioned too as they dropped the catch of Maxwell. Had that catch been taken, the story might have been very different. It seemed like the pressure got to Khan towards the end too, as with 6 needed off the final ball, he first served a wide, and then, bowled a full toss, which made it easier for Bharat to dispatch.

Bangalore started off in dismal fashion as they lost their openers inside the first 3 overs. A golden duck for Devdutt Padikkal and skipper, Virat Kohli failed to get going again. AB de Villiers was sent up the order and he took time to settle in, but with Bharat, he stitched a 49-run stand, but, while looking for a biggie, de Villiers holed out. The responsibility to take Bangalore home fell on the duo of Srikar Bharat and Glenn Maxwell. They took their time and played calmly for a couple of overs, but, they turned the switch soon after. Both of them started taking the bowlers on. Bharat got to his fifty and Maxwell supported him superbly. Life was injected into the run chase again and both kept the required rate in check. A 100-run alliance was stitched between these two and the game went to the last over. With 5 needed off the last ball, it looked like Bangalore would fall short but Bharat had other plans as he spanked the final delivery over the boundary ropes to help Bangalore win by 7 wickets.

WOW! What a game we have been treated to! A humdinger between the top placed team and the team that was placed 3rd. The game went right down to the wire, right to the last ball of the game, and Bharat kept his nerve and took his team past the line. Sure, it does not matter in the grand scheme of the tournament but with both these teams making the playoffs, it will surely be a psychological boost for Bangalore. Take a bow, Srikar Bharat! What a champion knock!

Commentary

We are set for the chase! The players make their way out to the middle. Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal are at the crease! Anrich Nortje to start with the ball. Here we go..

...THE RUN CHASE...

Right then! Bangalore have to get 165 runs from 20 overs if they are to hand Delhi a defeat in their last league stage game! Delhi do have a good bowling lineup and they would be confident going into the chase. It should be an interesting one. Stay tuned for the run chase.

Dan Christian is in for a quick word! He says that it was a good comeback by them as Delhi got off to a good start but the deck was holding up slightly and they are happy to restrict them to around 160. Adds that they tried to use the slower balls well. Feels that it has been a pretty crazy tournament for him and he has not been able to get going with the blade but is happy to contribute with the ball and out on the field.

Bangalore would be happy with the way they have bowled in this game as they came back well after conceding too many runs in the first 10. Harshal drew the first blood and he was well supported by Yuzvendra Chahal and Mohammed Siraj. Maxwell and Dan Christian did leak some runs but Christian also got the big wicket of Rishabh Pant. All in all, it was a good bowling performance from Bangalore and they would have taken this score at the start of the innings. At one point, it was looking like Delhi would get to atleast 180, but Bangalore's bowlers brought things back smartly.

Delhi's opening batters set the tone up front and gave their side a very good start. Both Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw were looking comfortable in the middle and Delhi were at 88/0 at the halfway mark. Once the openers got out, Delhi lost the momentum of the innings and they lost wickets in clusters. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer failed to capitalize on the start that they got and they fell cheaply. Shimron Hetmyer was promoted to bat at number 5 and he did not disappoint. He hit a few lusty blows at the fag end of the innings and it was just the kind of cameo that Delhi were hoping for, from the hard-hitting West Indian, who helped his team to get to 164.

This has been a very good comeback from Bangalore after having leaked a few runs at the start of the innings. Delhi have done well with the bat but they would feel they are some runs short, especially after getting off to a good start.

OUT! CAUGHT! A wicket on the last ball of the innings! Siraj gets his second and he bowls a brilliant last over! He bowls a full toss, around off, Shimron Hetmyer looks to power this one over the deep mid-wicket fence but he does not have enough juice on this shot. The skipper, Virat Kohli runs to his right in the deep and takes a great catch. DELHI END ON 164/5!

19.50

Siraj runs in and serves a short ball, around off, Shimron Hetmyer goes back and looks to pull but misses his shot.

19.41

Fuller, around off, hit hard to the left of the long off fielder for a run.

19.34

FOUR! What a cracking shot. Perfect whip. A low full toss, on middle, Ripal Patel stands his ground, moves his front leg away, and clips this one through mid-wicket for a boundary.

19.21

That was struck hard! Fuller, around off, Shimron Hetmyer slaps this one back towards Siraj, who does well to get out of the way. The batters take one.

FOUR! Not the best delivery from Siraj. He hurls across a full toss, around off, Hetmyer makes room and slaps this one past point. Shahbaz Ahmed runs to his right in the deep, slides, but fumbles and lets the ball touch the ropes. They are checking if this is a waist high full toss but the umpire has a look and it is only gestured as a boundary. 7 runs and a wicket off this over!

OUT! TAKEN! Easily done by Dan Christian in the deep and Iyer holes out this time! A wicket at the right time for Bangalore. Siraj runs in and hurls a full toss, he was probably looking for another yorker. It is on middle, Shreyas Iyer heaves this one towards long on, but does not time this one well. Dan Christian does not move an inch and gulps this one down.

17.30

Strategic Time-Out! What a game this is turning out to be. It looked like Delhi have choked Bangalore out of this game with their bowling in the middle overs, but the duo of Bharat and Maxwell have cut loose and have had a couple of great last 4-5 overs. Now, they need 46 more in the last 4 overs and would be looking to go hard and win their final group game. Delhi have a fantastic death bowling assortment that includes Nortje, Khan, and Rabada.

Let's get going, then! The Bangalore players are in a huddle and Virat Kohli is imparting some final words of wisdom, before the players spread out on the field. Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw stride out into the middle to open the innings for Delhi. Spin to get things underway as Glenn Maxwell will bowl first-up. Here he comes...

The captain of Delhi, Rishabh Pant says that the wicket looks slightly dry and so, they are okay with batting. Says that they are looking to take one game at a time and just want to improve. Tells that they are going fine and do not have any such concerns. Informs that they are unchanged.

Virat Kohli, the skipper of Bangalore, says they will bowl first. Adds that the pitch looks dry and the pitch settles down in the latter half of the innings. Tells that adjusting to these surfaces has been key and they have been professional in doing so. States that Daniel Christian needed some time in the middle so he was sent to bat at number 3. Goes on to say that sometimes things go your way but sometimes they don't. Signs off by saying that they are unchanged going into this game.

Delhi (Unchanged Playing XI) - Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (C/WK), Ripal Patel, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan.

Bangalore (Unchanged Playing XI) - Virat Kohli (C), Devdutt Padikkal, Srikar Bharat (WK), Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers, Dan Christian, Shahbaz Ahmed, George Garton, Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Siraj.

It's TOSS time! Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have made their way out for the same. Kohli flips it and Pant calls tails, it lands heads though. BANGALORE WILL BOWL FIRST!

PITCH REPORT - Anjum Chopra and Matthew Hayden are down for the pitch report. The latter says that it is a dry surface and there are a lot of cracks as well on the pitch. Adds that the surface looks really hard. Tells that it will be an even contest between bat and ball. Signs off by saying that it looks like a much better pitch for batting.

Delhi are sitting at the top of the points table and by winning games consistently they have ensured that they will end the league stage by topping the points chart, irrespective of the outcome of this game. They are a well-balanced unit, having some world-class bowlers in their rank and they certainly are a team to beat in this edition. The only area of concern for them has been their top-order batting as the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw haven't been up to the mark yet. Heading into the playoffs, they would be eager to polish areas like these and this game will surely give them an opportunity to do so. Will Bangalore be able to stop Delhi's juggernaut? We shall find that soon. Stay tuned for toss and further updates.

Bangalore had a very good chance of making it to the top 2 but it was Hyderabad who spoiled their party in the previous game and their chances of dethroning Chennai from the 2nd spot look very slim now. They would surely take some positives from that game but there are still some areas where they would look to improve on. Apart from Glenn Maxwell, their batting has been a touch inconsistent and that has and that also hampered their scoring rate. Their bowlers have delivered for them more often than not and it is upto their batters now to step up, especially against a very strong bowling unit of Delhi.

Hello folks! Welcome to the last league game of the Indian T20 League where Delhi will lock horns with Bangalore. The top 4 spots in the points table seem to be well and truly booked and it will be nothing short of a miracle if we see any changes in the top 4 of that table at the conclusion of this encounter. We are just a week away from the all-important final and things are heating up in UAE.

....Match Day....
