OUT! RUN OUT! Tawhid Hridoy is run out and he is furious, as he throws his bat on the ground. On a length and on the pads, Hridoy clips in the gap towards deep mid-wicket and runs the first one quickly and he calls for the second one. Tanzim Hasan Sakib responds and takes a few steps forward but then after seeing the fielder throw, he sends Hridoy back, but to that time, Tawhid was already halfway down the wicket. The fielder Nishan Madushka runs across to his left from deep mid-wicket and collects the ball very quickly and throws it to the non-striker's end, after seeing which batter is short of his crease. Hridoy tries to come back to his crease but the bowler Asitha Fernando collects the ball and whips the bails off, falling Hridoy short by a mile. He gets angry as that was his call for the second and he was the set batter, so Tanzim should have sacrificed his wicket if it was there. The umpire gives him his bat and he walks off. Hridoy departs after his fifty and Bangladesh are in deep trouble.

The floodlights have been switched on in Colombo. Not that it is getting dark or anything. It is still bright and sunny but in a day-night game, the players need to get used to the artificial light and hence, the lights are switched on well in advance. Another halt in play. Jaker Ali has not quite recovered from that cramp in the previous over and has called for a break again. Litton Das, who is not in this game today, comes out with a bottle of water for Jaker. There we go. We saw this in the first ODI as well, with as many as three players cramping up across both teams. Here, it is Jaker Ali who has started to cramp up. Not surprising, because in his 34 balls, only 2 have gone to the boundary. That means, he has scored 12 runs in the remaining 32 balls and has run very hard between the wickets. At the same time, he has run hard for Hridoy's runs as well. Out comes the physio with some water from the 12th man. Up and running, is Jaker.

MISFIELD, FOUR! Landed outside off, Tawhid Hridoy goes back and opens the face of his bat at the last moment, getting it to the right of short third. The fielder at short third gives it a chase but then slows down, on seeing Pathum Nissanka race across to his left from deep cover. He lets it go, thinking that Nissanka will stop the ball but the latter dives over the ball and it goes through. Hridoy moves to 41 (58) and that is just his second boundary. The bowler is not impressed with the fielding.

But the replay shows that Hridoy, who was backing up, actually slipped on his back and that actually helped him skid his bat into the crease! Just in the nick of time!

Gone? This could be trouble for Hridoy. Jaker has driven the ball straight back and Chameera has tried to stop that, inadvertently deflecting the ball onto the stumps behind. Hridoy tried to get back, but did he, in time? Yes, just in.

Meanwhile, in Birmingham, KL Rahul has been cleaned up by Josh Tongue, for a fighting 55 but Rishabh Pant has come out firing on all cylinders. He has got off to a flier, racing to 31 from just 19 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes. India are 164/3 and have got a decent lead of 344 on Day 4, but with the weather forecast looking iffy for both, today and tomorrow, quick runs might be the need of the hour, for a timely declaration.

DRINKS BREAK. Good game of cricket going on. Neither side is giving an inch to the other. Sri Lanka are picking up wickets at regular intervals but Bangladesh are also trying hard to avoid a collapse. That middle order has been giving them issues ever since Mahmudullah and Rahim have been absent but they need to find answers soon. The scorecard is not too dissimilar to the previous ODI, with the exception that people are getting into double digits. But on a flat track, with only one batter crossing 30 in the top 6 is a worry. Of course, Tawhid Hridoy might be the second but in short, the batters are not converting their starts. The Lankans would be happy with this. One more wicket and they would be into the tail.

If it is an external injury, he can come and bowl as soon as he takes the field, but they will hope it is nothing serious.

This time, he just missed a straight ball though. Full, around off, coming in with the angle, Emon lunges to play the ball straight but just plays down the wrong line. The bat is around the middle stump while the ball lands outside off and comes in with the angle, to hit the off stump. Emon does not want to go but he is informed by the umpire that he is bowled and not stumped. Now, Emon starts to walk off. Departs for a fantastic 67 (69) and the 37-run stand is broken. DRINKS BREAK. Well, the pitch might be more or less similar to the one featured in the first ODI, but definitely, the playing conditions are not the same. In the first match, Bangladesh got one of the two new balls to move around a lot till the 20th over at least, but there has barely been any movement here with either of the balls. Here and there, there was a one-odd case of the ball swinging but not much of concern to the batters. Additionally, spin has not yet had an effect. The wicket which fell was more due to lack of perfect execution by the batter. In short, this pitch does look like a terrific one to bat upon and the visitors will have to target somewhere in the region of 300 to be safe. Parvez Hossain Emon has got a start now and should be aiming for a three-digit score. It will be a challenge for the Lankans if the balls don't do much. Here comes spinner number 4 - Wanindu Hasaranga.

After a long time! We are witnessing the first bowling change of the day - Dushmantha Chameera. He is playing his first international game in over 17 months, having last featured in an ODI in February 2024, against Afghanistan! Chameera was not initially a part of this ODI squad, but brought in as a cover for Milan Rathnayake. Having failed to pass the fitness test today, Rathnayake gets replaced by Chameera for this game.

Huge appeal for LBW! Nothing from the umpire. Maheesh Theekshana is literally pleading with the umpire but to the naked eye, that seemed to be going past the off stump. The Lankans have a chat and keeper Kusal Mendis seems to be the most animated and eventually, convinces skipper Asalanka to take the review. It was a very full ball, around middle and off, and Parvez Hossain Emon got low to sweep the ball on a knee, but missed it and was hit on the pads. UltraEdge does not detect anything when the ball is near the bat. As expected, Ball Tracking shows the ball to be going past the off stump.

A short ball, outside leg, Najmul Hossain Shanto just about gets across and lets it pass. He expects a wide call but doesn't get it. The umpire explains that had he stayed where he was, the ball would have hit him and hence the call.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! As always, more often than not, Asitha strikes first. It is the knuckle delivery, landing around middle and off on a length. Tanzid Hasan looks to cut it through the off side but the ball swings away from the left hander and also, arrives a lot slower than he anticipated. The shot is already through before the ball could come and all the batter manages is a thick outside edge behind. The keeper, Kusal Mendis, dives in front to pouch that catch and Sri Lanka have their first wicket. Tanzid, who looked the most fluent from Bangladesh's side in the first ODI, departs for just  7 (11) and Bangladesh are 10/1 after 2.3 overs!

Full and down the leg side, swinging further down, Tanzid looks to flick but misses and is hit on the pads. Asitha appeals but the umpire shakes his head. There is a bit of a chat between the Lankans but they don't take the review.

Excellent effort from Pathum Nissanka. Down the leg side, Tanzid works this through square leg. The ball races away but Nissanka hares across to his left from sweeper, getting to the ball just before it can touch the ropes. Dives and pushes it away, saving a run for his side.

Not much signs of swing in that opening over. In the first game, Taskin was getting the ball to move a lot in the air. Meanwhile, a note of congratulations for umpire RUCHIRA PALLIYAGURUGE.  He is standing in his 100th ODI as an onfield umpire, and becomes only the third Sri Lankan after Kumar Dharmasena and Asoka de Silva to achieve this feat. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board had presented him a memento just before the start of this match. It will be the spin of Maheesh Theekshana to use the second new ball.

PITCH REPORT - Russell Arnold is doing the pitch report. Arnold observes that during the first ODI, the pace got quicker and had more bounce in the evening, during the second innings. That practically means that batting in the second innings is a lot easier. Believes that the pitch is more or less similar to the one used in the first ODI and once again, spin will play a pivotal role. Reckons that the team batting first needs to score around 270-280 to win.

The skipper of Sri Lanka, Charith Asalanka, wanted to bat first as well. Agrees that the pitch looks a good one to bat upon. On the top order's failure in the previous game, Asalanka says that there was a chat with the players, but at the same time, there is massive trust on the batters. Informs that the team has made two tactical changes, with Dunith Wellalage and Dushmantha Chameera coming in for Milan Rathnayake and Eshan Malinga.

The skipper of Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, says that they’ll bat first, backing the surface, which looks good and quite similar to the one used in the last match. He admits the previous result was an upset, but the team had honest conversations about bouncing back stronger. Mentions that they’ve come in well-prepared, as they know the conditions well. States that they had a couple of days for training coming up in this clash. Informs that the side has made two changes, where Shamim comes in place of Litton and Hasan comes in for Taskin, who is rested to manage his workload.

Talking about the weather, it was in talk during the first ODI, with as many as three players suffering from cramps. Tanvir Islam was struggling post his 4th over itself while Mustafizur Rahman literally did not complete his full quota of overs, and just walked out of the field due to cramps. From the Lankan camp, Wanindu Hasaranga was struggling as well. So we hope that the weather is a bit kinder to the players today. For now, it is bright, sunny and hot again.

For Bangladesh, this match is all about handling pressure and executing better in key phases. Tanzid Hasan looked solid at the top, and Jaker Ali also fought hard down the order, but their middle-order collapse was alarming. They'll need a more measured approach against spin and better support for their bowlers. Former skipper Shanto has been dropped from the T20I squad, so he will come out to prove a point here. Also, they will play this match without their coach, Phil Simmons, who is unavailable due to personal reasons. With Taskin and Tanzim in form, Bangladesh certainly have the firepower to hit back, but it’ll require collective discipline.

Sri Lanka will be buzzing with confidence. Asalanka continues to lead by example, and their spinners, Hasaranga and Kamindu, have proven to be the real match-winners on a dry, gripping surface. After missing out on playing in the Champions Trophy earlier this year, this team is looking fierce as they want to prove their supremacy in the ODI format, as they have been a formidable side in the last two decades. Their batting depth and spin-heavy attack are perfectly suited to the Premadasa conditions. If they stay composed and start well again, Sri Lanka could easily close out the series here itself.

In the first ODI, Sri Lanka recovered from a shaky start after losing three wickets inside the Powerplay. Charith Asalanka anchored the innings beautifully, stitching vital partnerships with Kusal Mendis and Janith Liyanage. For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed and Tanzim Hasan Sakib were the pick of the bowlers. Chasing 245, Bangladesh were in control at 100 for 1 before Wanindu Hasaranga’s magical spell turned the tide. He took 4 wickets for just 10 runs in under eight overs, while Kamindu Mendis chipped in with a game-changing 3/19. The visitors collapsed dramatically from a position of strength, losing nine wickets for just 67 runs and ending at 167 all out. 

Hello and welcome to the second ODI between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After a dominant win in the first game, the hosts have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Led by Charith Asalanka, Sri Lanka will now be eyeing a series win. On the flip side, it’s a must-win situation for Mehidy Hasan Miraz and his men. They had their moments in the opener but couldn’t capitalize, and now find themselves under pressure.

Sri Lanka are firmly in control as they head into the second ODI, riding high after a commanding 77-run win in Colombo. Captain Charith Asalanka starred with a composed century, while their spin twins Wanindu Hasaranga and Kamindu Mendis, alongside Maheesh Theekshana, dominated as the ball spun in the closing stages. Bangladesh, on the other hand, were left stunned after collapsing from a promising start losing seven wickets for just five runs - a collapse that highlighted their inconsistency and outdated middle-order. Sri Lanka will look to maintain their momentum with a balanced attack under home conditions. Pathum Nissanka who was the start in the Tests missed out in the first game and will want to make up while Kusal Mendis has been in good form but needs a big score. Bangladesh, embarking on a rebuilding journey without veterans like Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah, will turn to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, their new ODI captain, to instil belief.
