Adds that they have been preparing and practicing for the last 10-15 days. Adds that he wasn't much happy with the batting and they will try and work on that. Mentions that Litton Das getting back to fomr was a good thing and appreciates Towhid Hridoy as well. Thanks the crowd for their support.

Wanindu Hasaranga, the captain of Sri Lanka is up for a chat he says that they started well with the bat but lost their way. Adds that bowling is their strength. Reckons that if they had 150-160 runs on the board, they would have been in the game. Says that the batters let them down today. Ends by sharing that they will try to do well in the next two games. Shares that he wanted to attack with four genuine bowlers but the all-rounders were not upto the mark.

Rishad Hossain is the Player of the Match for his outstanding spell. He says that the pitch and conditions were good to bowl. Shares that he bowled to his strengths and according to the field. Adds that he tried his best on the hat-trick ball but couldn’t get it. Ends by thanking the almighty for his performance.

The Presentation ceremony…

Earlier in the innings, we saw Sri Lanka get off to a flying start and taking on the bowlers. However, Bangladesh bounced back strongly and looked lethal after the first 6 overs. They managed to stop the runs and took timely wickets. Their catching was right there at the top and they didn’t bowl many extras which helped them restrict Sri Lanka to a low score of 124. Rishad Hossain and Mustafizur Rahman were the pick of the bowlers with their 3 wickets each. Pathum Nissanka was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with 47 runs to his name.

Bangladesh had an absolute disaster for a start. Soumya Sarkar and Tanzid Hasan, their openers were sent back in the first two over itself. As Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to build a partnership, a sharp catch brought an end to the latter’s innings. The process of building a stand began again with Das and Towhid Hridoy. They executed the plan well and played simple cricket avoiding any risky shots. Automatically, the boundaries started coming and they managed to put some pressure on the bowlers. Towhid Hridoy took on Hasaranga and got them back in control of the game. Das also was trapped infront of the stumps by the opposition skipper. With his wicket, the batters again went back to batting cautiously. With the wickets falling at timely intervals, they started to loose their control over the game. Thushara spoiled their party in the 18th over and got the tail end out to bat. Mahmadullah acted as their saviour and secured their win. With a win in their first game of the tournament, they are off to a good start.

Sri Lanka were off to a dream start. Dhananjaya de Silva gave them a breakthrough in the first over as he sent back Soumya Sarkar. Nuwan Thushara followed it up in the next over as he castled Tanzid Hasan. He continued his lethal bowling and made Najmul Hossain Shanto as his second prey. After that, the bowlers struggled to take wickets and also bowled some loose deliveries. They also bowled a lot of extras which didn’t make the scenario better. Wanindu Hasaranga got the wicket of Towhid Hridoy and Litton Das but the batters had already dealt a lot of damage to the Lankans. However, the scoring rate decreased but the pressure remained on the Lankans. Matheesha Pathirana got the wicket of Shakib Al Hasan courtesy of a brilliant catch by Maheesh Theekshana which gave them some confidence. Thushara got two more wickets at a very crucial time as he got rid of Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed. They have now both their games and in order to move up the table, Sri Lanka, cannot afford to lose any more games. They will need to work on their performance espescially in the batting department.

WOW! We have witnessed a nail-biting encounter as two rivals from Asia put up a great fight in terms of bat and ball. There were a lot of ups and downs for both teams throughout the match but in the end Bangladesh emerged victorious. Mahmadullah made sure that he stays on the crease till the last run and secured their victory. However, they will not be too happy with their batting performance but will happily take those two points in their first match of the tournament.

Commentary

Welcome back for the chase. The players and umpires return to the park. It will be Soumya Sarkar and Tanzid Hasan to open for Bangladesh. Dhananjaya de Silva ,the offie, will start with the ball for Sri Lanka looking at two left-handed openers. Here we go!

…THE RUN CHASE…

For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain were terrific and took three apiece while Taskin Ahmed chipped in with couple in his comeback game. Bangladesh came back well after the powerplay and conceded just 71 runs in the next 14 overs, picking 7 wickets along the way. Right then, Bangladesh need 125 for the win and will be confident of chasing it down and get their first win of the tournament. Can they do it or will the Sri Lankan bowlers come hard at them? We shall find out. Join us in a bit for the second essay.

Taskin Ahmed is up for a chat. He says that it was a good start for him after an injury and they will celebrate after winning the game. Adds that he is happy with the bowling unit and says that they bounced back strongly after the powerplay. Mentions that the pitch had a bit of help for the bowlers but it was all about execution. Reckons that while batting, proper cricketing shots might help.

An outstanding bowling performance from Bangladesh has restricted Sri Lanka to just 124 for 9 in their 20 overs. Having sent into bat first, Sri Lanka started well and made 53 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the powerplay. Pathum Nissanka top scored with 47 but threw his wicket away at the wrong time. A couple of other batters got starts but failed to kick on. Post the wicket of Nissanka, Bangladesh applied pressure by taking regular wickets and kept the scoring rate under control. Angelo Mathews tried hard in the end but could only take his side past the 120-run mark.

Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the side that has the experience of Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Taskin Ahmed, and Mustafizur Rahman. The likes of Tanzid Hasan, Rishad Hossain, and Towhid Hridoy have shown glimpses of their talent and will the ones to keep an eye on. In their match against South Africa, the Lankans were dismissed for just 77 on a tricky wicket in New York. None of their batters were able to cross the 20-run mark. Their bowlers started well in the defence and took four South African wickets but the Proteas batted sensibly and got home in the 17th over. Sri Lanka will hope to bounce back and get a win against their neighbours, Bangladesh

Hello and a warm welcome to our coverage of Match 15 in the ICC T20 World Cup, 2024. Sri Lanka are taking on Bangladesh at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Sri Lanka suffered a defeat against South Africa in their first game of the tournament while Bangladesh are playing their maiden game of the competition.

... MATCH DAY ...

The 15th T20 World Cup match at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas will pit Bangladesh versus Sri Lanka in the group D contest. Since both teams have recently struggled, they will hope to take advantage of the chance to gain significant ground early in the competition. With four victories and one defeat in their last five head-to-head meetings with Bangladesh, Sri Lanka has dominated. After losing a T20I series to what was thought to be a weaker opponent, the USA, Bangladesh will need to quickly address their issues. Bangladesh heavily relies on Hridoy, Hasan, and Shakib in batting, while Mustafizur Rahman and Shakib lead the bowling attack. Success against Sri Lanka will require favorable conditions and luck, especially at the toss if Bangladesh needs to pull this one. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, faced a challenging start in the World Cup opener with their lowest T20 total of 77 runs against South Africa. The pitch conditions and their decision to bat first highlighted issues in adaptability. Despite this setback, previous successes against Bangladesh and key players like Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews provide hope for a turnaround. Performances from Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana will be crucial for Sri Lanka to secure their first win in the T20 World Cup. So, which side will come out on top? We shall find out together.
