South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 10 wickets

R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo

That's it from this game. The visitors win the T20I series 3-nil after losing the ODI series. Both the series were dominated by some great show of spin bowling and now both the teams will look to focus on their next ventures. For Sri Lanka its the T20 World Cup group stages, but before that they play a couple of T20 matches against Oman. South Africa can relax and recover for the T20 World Cup. Hope you enjoyed our coverage. Good bye and take care.

Keshav Maharaj, the skipper of South Africa is up for a chat. He says that the boys deserve all the credit and they have been brilliant. Adds that the batters have stood up when needed. Says that they could still improve when it comes to bowling in Powerplay. Tells that the bio-bubble is challenging but the team has found a way to get through it. Signs off by saying that the bowling and batting has been good but they still need to work on their fielding and they are working hard on it.

Dasun Shanaka, the skipper of Sri Lanka says, that South Africa were very good today and congratulates them and they have been outstanding throughout the series. He adds that Hasaranga and Karunaratne have been the positives and have impressed with the ball. Mentions that even though they have lost the series, they did win the ODI series and are confident for the qualifiers. He adds that they need to improve their batting and didn't finish well with the bat after getting starts.

Quinton de Kock has been awarded as the Player of the Match and also the Player of the Series. He says that he understands the conditions really well now as this is his third tour. Adds that he played in The Hundred and it helped him to develop a few more skills. Tells that it will be important to take good care of his body as he has a long season going ahead.

...THE PRESENTATION CEREMONY...

Right then, earlier in the day Dasun Shanaka elected to bat first and the decision turned out to be a poor one. Sri Lanka could only muster up 120 runs on the board, thanks to a late blitz from Chamika Karunaratne. The South African openers were at it from ball one and made short work of the total, inflicting more misery on the hosts.

Oh, Sri Lanka they just don't learn from past mistakes and are adamant that there bowlers can keep on defending low totals. To be honest it'd be harsh to criticise the bowlers today but none of them looked like picking up a wicket either. Wanindu Hasaranga, as usual created a couple of chances but that was it. The ball didn't turn enough today and the Sri Lankan spinners couldn't put any pressure on the South African openers and in the end the hosts succumbed to yet another defeat.

The batting is clicking for South Africa at the right moment. Not a long time ago, Quinton de Kock looked out of sorts and so did the visitors and they kept chopping and changing the batting order. They have now dealt with that issue and the two openers showed their class today. de Kock was the first to bring up a half century and Hendricks soon followed suit. They put an unbeaten partnership of 121 runs and have taken their team to victory in some commanding way.

South Africa have literally walked their way to victory and have completed a clean sweep over the hosts in this T20I series. As for Sri Lanka, they couldn't be more disappointed with their performance.

...THE RUN CHASE...

Right then, South Africa need just 121 runs to do a clean sweep and they will be feeling confident. Sri Lanka on the other hand, will be looking to their bowlers to get something out of this match. They have proved in the recent past that they can defend modest totals but will they be able do it today? Find out soon as the chase is coming up.

It is like getting beaten at your own game again for Sri Lanka. None of their batters just look to give themselves time out there in the middle. Apart from Kusal Perera, who is a stroke player and the skipper, Dasun Shanaka, only Chamika Karunaratne is one who trusts his own ability and always puts up a fight in the end. The Sri Lankan batters, specially the middle-order need to pull themselves together ahead of the qualifiers for the T20 World Cup or it could be even more misery for the hosts.

For South Africa, it all started with Rabada's early wickets in the Powerplay and then the spinners came on and chipped in with wickets at regular intervals. All the bowlers executed their plans brilliantly on this low and slow wicket and made things difficult for Sri Lanka. 14 overs in total were bowled by the spinners and they kept things very tight in the middle. Sri Lankan batters found it vey hard to get going and they could only manage 120.

This has been an exceptional display of bowling from the visitors and they would have definitely taken this score at the start of the innings. The hosts couldn't get rid of their own demons and will now have to bowl exceptionally well.

We are ready for play.

Dasun Shanaka, the skipper of Sri Lanka says that they will bat first. Adds that their batting order did not click in the firat two games so they have made two changes in the middle-order.

Keshav Maharaj says that they have made one change, Wiaan Mulder comes in and they are trying new combinations before the World Cup. He adds that they want to be as clinical as possible and would want to win it 3-nil. He also adds that we have an extra all-rounder today and it's important to get everyone ready for different conditions

PITCH REPORT - Aamer Sohail, the birthday boy says, that the curators have prepared another hard and dry pitch. The spinners will enjoy bowling and the fast bowlers will look to chop and change their pace. The pitch has a bit of grass cover.

South Africa (Playing XI) - Quinton de Kock (WK), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, Heinrich Klaasen, Dwaine Pretorius, Wiaan Mulder (In for Anrich Nortje), Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj (C), Bjorn Fortuin, Tabraiz Shamsi.

Sri Lankan stalwart Lasith Malinga has announced his retirement from T20s and has now officially retired from all forms of the game.

TOSS - Up goes the coin and in lands in Sri Lanka's favor. They have elected to bat first.

Sri Lanka have had a torrid year with Covid and players getting banned for breach of protocols but their main problem has been their batting which hasn't clicked at all. The spinners have been great and the pacers have done well in conditions that don't necessarily suit them. South Africa, on the other hand have been in top form in T20Is and maybe for the first time, they aren't one of the favorites to win the T20 World Cup. But judging by the way they have adapted to life without their superstars, they might just be the dark horses of the tournament, but all this is for the future. Right now, Sri Lanka need a win desperately to get some confidence going but will they?

Hello and welcome to the third and final T20I between Sri Lanka and South Africa. South Africa have already wrapped up the series with a dominating win in the second match. They will now look to complete a whitewash which will give them a serious boost ahead of the T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka will look to get rid of their familiar batting collapses and sign off with a win here and get some momentum going as they have to play qualifiers to get into the main draw at the T20 World Cup. A lot to play for. Toss and team news in a bit.
