Commentary

Right then, that’s all from us for this contest. Be sure to join us again on Monday, 28th July, for the fifth and final T20I of the series, coming to you from the same venue. That match gets underway at 11 pm GMT, but as always, we’ll be with you well before then with all the pre-match build-up and insights. Until then, take care and goodbye!

The captain of Australia, Mitchell Marsh, says it was a good effort with the ball. He mentions they managed to pick up a few early wickets and navigate some tricky periods in the middle. Marsh shares that 230 felt like a par score on this surface and credits the bowling unit for an outstanding performance. He admits it can get a bit hectic when a team comes hard at you, but says the message in the group has always been about staying calm and executing the plans under pressure. Marsh states that while Test cricket can be a grind, it is great to see Green enjoying himself in this format, and adds that he is an important part of the side moving forward.

Shai Hope, the West Indies skipper, says that defending the score is difficult, and they needed more runs to defend the total later on, which is why they went hard with the bat. Shares that the young bowlers showed that they are very capable and lauds Jediah Blades, who was excellent today. Adds that left-arm seamers are always a big asset to any side. Mentions that the fielding has been sub par and they know the importance of good fielding. Closes by adding that taking good catches or stopping runs makes a massive difference in the contest.

Glenn Maxwell wins the Player of the Match award. He mentions it was great to watch the power-hitters express themselves and for some of the batters to step up despite batting out of their usual positions. Maxwell shares that it was good fun at the top and adds that he always looks to contribute to the team in any way he can. He says it feels great to be part of a side playing such exciting cricket and hopes the momentum continues for a long time.

Presentation time...

Earlier, the West Indies batted first and posted 205/9, with contributions in the 20s from Rovman Powell, Romario Shepherd, and Jason Holder. Sherfane Rutherford top-scored with 31. For Australia, Aaron Hardie, Xavier Bartlett, and Sean Abbott each claimed two wickets, while Adam Zampa picked up three but proved expensive. Nathan Ellis went wicketless but impressed with an economical spell, conceding less than six runs per over. Another commanding win for the visitors to complete a comfortable chase, while the West Indies will hope to bounce back and salvage some pride in the final game of the series.

For the West Indies, Jediah Blades stood out with an impressive spell, claiming three wickets. Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, and Akeal Hosein chipped in with one wicket each. While the hosts showed noticeable improvement with the ball and managed to take the match deep, missed opportunities in the field ultimately cost them. They remain winless in the series as Australia take a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.

Australia have wrapped up another confident run-chase to clinch the fourth T20I by three wickets, sealing the win with four balls to spare. Chasing a formidable 206, the visitors suffered an early setback with captain Mitchell Marsh dismissed for a duck. However, explosive innings from Glenn Maxwell (47 off 18) and Josh Inglis (51 off 30) put them firmly in control. The middle order wobbled slightly, with Cooper Connolly and Mitchell Owen falling cheaply, but Cameron Green once again steadied the innings. Playing a mature knock, Green notched up his third fifty of the series and guided Australia home in the final over.

Commentary

Welcome back for Australia's response with the bat. Shai Hope leads his troops out to the middle. It will be Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh to open the innings for Australia. Jediah Blades will kick things off with the ball for West Indies. Marsh to face the first ball. Here we go!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Aaron Hardie and Nathan Ellis were tidy with the ball, with Hardie finishing with two wickets while Ellis remained wicketless but conceded just 21 runs in his four overs. Australia have chased quite convincingly in all three games so far and will back themselves to hunt down the total for the fourth time in a row. With the outfield a bit damp after the rain, it could be tricky for the Windies bowlers to get a proper grip on the ball. Back in a bit for the chase.

Australia did well to snuff out each of those threats before they could turn into something substantial heading into the death overs. Jason Holder and Matthew Forde got together and looked like they could deliver the final flourish their team had been lacking all series, but it wasn’t to be as both perished at inopportune moments. As a result, West Indies managed only 41 runs in the last five overs, finishing on 205 and once again leaving a few runs out there.

Wickets in the Powerplay had eluded Australia, with just one scalp across the first three games. Xavier Bartlett and Aaron Hardie led the course correction, maintaining a consistent 6-8 metre length, with Bartlett striking crucially to remove both in-form West Indies openers. In the middle phase, West Indies kept going hard through Sherfane Rutherford, Rovman Powell, and Romario Shepherd, but none could carry on and make it count.

Just 2 runs from the final over and it turns out to be the most economical over of the innings. Quite a strange innings from the West Indies, one that promised a lot considering the starts the Windies batters got for themselves, but no one could go on and make it big. Australia kept plugging away at the wickets and you'd think they will be the happier of the two sides.

19.51

Slower ball on the full, around off. Jediah Blades swings hard and miscues it toward point for one.

19.40

Back of a length, around off. Jediah Blades plays and misses. The batter tries to sneak the bye, but Josh Inglis is quick to get the underarm throw and hits the stumps. The umpires go upstairs to check once and confirm that the bat of Blades is grounded.

19.30

Short of a length delivery, just outside off. Jediah Blades looks to pull but misses.

We are back. The two umpires and players make their way out to the centre. Nathan Ellis is at the top of his mark and has 4 balls left in the over. Jediah Blades to face. Remember, Australia have a slow over penalty and therefore, they are allowed only 4 fielders outside the 30-yard circle. Let's play...

UPDATE - 1.26 am GMT - Right then, the rain has subsided and the covers are coming off. The Super Sopper is hard at work in the outfield. Mitchell Marsh and Co. are waiting on the sidelines, so a resumption looks imminent. And there you go, play set to resume at 1.37 am GMT. We had an hour of buffer time and due to that, no overs have been lost.

UPDATE - 1.02 am GMT - It has stopped raining. The covers are still in place for now, but it shouldn’t be long before they are removed. Oh dear, a square cover that was earlier removed is now being brought back on. Looks like the rain has returned.

UPDATE - 12.53 am GMT - Good news! The intensity of the rain has eased, and the ground staff are hovering near the covers, ready to take them off as soon as it stops completely. Stay tuned!

UPDATE - 12.50 am GMT - It is still raining steadily, but Daren Ganga informs us that the drainage at the venue is excellent. There is a 60-minute buffer before overs start getting lost. Fingers crossed the rain eases off soon.

Well, the drizzle has picked up and the covers are being brought on. The ground staff are quick to cover the surface and the square. There is a strong breeze blowing across, so hopefully, it will blow away the rain soon. Stick around!

OUT! TAKEN! An ideal start for West Indies after the break! Akeal bowls it on the shorter side but keeps it away from the batter's arc. Maxwell is made to reach out and he ends up dragging it with a flat bat. Hits it flat and straight down the throat of long on where Jason Holder takes a few steps in and takes it around his thigh. This is the first time Hosein has dismissed Maxwell in T20 cricket. Glenn departs for 47 (18). Australia are now 129/3, needing 77 from 59.

DRINKS BREAK! Australia are in control of the chase at the moment. Despite seeing the back of Josh Inglis, West Indies haven’t been able to dry up the boundaries or apply any real pressure, with 63 runs coming in 23 balls since. Since losing Inglis, Glenn Maxwell has taken charge and, alongside Cameron Green, has brought the equation down to 77 needed off the last 10 overs. West Indies have struggled with their lines and lengths under pressure and need a couple of quick wickets to spark any hope of a fightback.

All in readiness now.  The teams and the umpires make their way to the middle. It will be the pair of Brandon King and Shai Hope to open the innings for the West Indies. Aaron Hardie will start with the ball for Australia. Let's play...

Time to hear from Romario Shepherd of West Indies. Shepherd mentions that he had a great start with the ball last night, but his third over proved costly. He feels that conceding fewer runs or picking up a wicket in that over might have changed the course of the game. He shares that on this wicket, it is important to be as unpredictable as possible, especially against an in-form Australian batting lineup that enjoys pace and thrives against seamers. Shepherd adds that he'd like to bat higher up the order, but with the team's depth, it's difficult. He also points out that in all three games so far, West Indies haven’t finished well with the bat and that is something they want to improve.

Australia's Nathan Ellis is up for a chat. He says that he tries to take as much info as he can from the first few overs and make decisions depending on boundary sizes and how the batters are going. Adds that, in a series like this, where the games are coming thick and fast, he tries to knock over all the work before the series starts. Adds that he had a month at home, so he did some fine-tuning and was ready to go and he gets better once it does it regularly, as it is about honing the skills, and it is always a bit of cat and mouse stuff when they play against the same guys a lot. Closes by sharing that Mitchell Owen and Tim David have been brilliant, and to see David bring up his first hundred was special.

PITCH REPORT - Daren Ganga is near the pitch and informs that it is the same surface used last night. He mentions that the boundaries are 61 and 64 metres square, with 70 metres straight down the ground. Shakera Selman shares that not much has changed and it's still a really good batting surface. She mentions it will be easy for batters to step out and hit through the line. Adds that yorkers will be a key option for bowlers, while the slower, short and wide delivery could also be effective.

Australia (Playing XI) - Mitchell Marsh (C), Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis (WK), Cameron Green, Mitchell Owen, Cooper Connolly, Aaron Hardie (In for Tim David), Xavier Bartlett (In for Ben Dwarshuis), Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa.

West Indies (Playing XI) - Brandon King, Shai Hope (C/WK), Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde (In for Gudakesh Motie), Akeal Hosein, Jediah Blades.

The captain of West Indies, Shai Hope mentions that every time they step onto the field, the aim is always to win. He shares that a 3-2 scoreline looks far better than 5-0 or 4-1, and that remains their main objective now. Hope says they need to execute better with both bat and ball and stresses the importance of finishing well with the bat. He also informs that Matthew Forde comes in for Gudakesh Motie.

Mitchell Marsh, the Australian skipper, wins the toss and opts to bowl. Says that they will not be experimenting, as they are here to win and want to continue that way. Adds that they have been well prepared, and the backroom staff allows them to do so. Closes by sharing that Xavier Bartlett and Aaron Hardie come in for Ben Dwarshuis and Tim David.

TOSS - Australia have won the toss and they will BOWL first.

On the other hand, Australia were initially guilty of bowling too full before Nathan Ellis and Sean Abbott adjusted smartly by dragging their lengths back and taking pace off. That approach worked well and should be the go-to again with the small boundaries. Tim David’s blistering maiden T20I ton, the fastest for Australia in 37 balls, stole the show, and the visitors will look to carry that batting momentum forward. It promises to be another high-scoring affair with plenty of entertainment. Stick around for the toss and team news.

Shai Hope’s maiden T20I ton lit up Warner Park in the 3rd T20I, but it wasn’t enough for the hosts. Once again, they couldn’t finish strong with the bat and left a few runs out there. With the ball, they completely lost the plot and had no answers to the carnage unleashed by Tim David. Alzarri Joseph could return tonight after being rested in the previous game, and that would be a much-needed boost for the home side.

Hello, one and all! It was only last night that we witnessed a high-scoring contest, and and we are back for another weekend treat. While the series is already in Australia's bag, there's still plenty on the line with the 2026 T20 World Cup less than an year away. The visitors have simply been too strong so far, while West Indies find themselves in the middle of an indifferent run in T20Is, with just 1 win in their last 10 completed outings.

... MATCH DAY ...

The fourth T20I is upon us between West Indies and Australia at Warner Park in Basseterre. With a dominant chase less in the third game, the Aussies have wrapped up the five-match series. Despite a maiden T20I ton from Shai Hope helping the hosts post a formidable 214, it felt underwhelming at the halfway mark and so it proved. Tim David exploded with the fastest T20I century by an Australian, off just 37 balls, to take his side home with ease. It was a familiar tale for West Indies, much like the series opener, where a promising start with the bat fizzled out without the final flourish. Shai Hope and Brandon King have been among the runs, but the rest of the batting line-up hasn’t quite clicked. The likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, and Sherfane Rutherford will be eager to step up and help restore some pride. With the ball, the Windies' spinners came in for some serious punishment, especially from David. Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie will be desperate to bounce back with improved performances as the home side aims to avoid a series sweep and make the most of these remaining fixtures. As for Australia, the lack of runs from Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell hasn’t hurt them much, thanks to the form of Josh Inglis, Cameron Green, and, most recently, Tim David’s record-breaking blitz. With the ball, Nathan Ellis might not have a big wicket tally, but he has been the most economical of the lot, offering control in crucial phases. With the series already in the bag, Australia may look to rotate their squad. The likes of Matthew Kuhnemann, Xavier Bartlett, and Aaron Hardie could be in line for opportunities as they look to test their bench strength and keep the momentum going. Will the Aussies extend their dominance? Or will the Windies finally pull one back and salvage some pride? We shall find out.
