Right then! That is all we have from this game. Australia and West Indies will face off once again in the second ODI. It is on 22nd July at 1430 Local (1830 GMT). So do join us for that. Till then, take care and goodbye!

Alex Carey, the Australian skipper, says that it was a special win for everyone. Adds that the 3 debutants performed very well. Says that they put on a competitive score and Ashton played a very crucial role. About his pace duo, says that when Starc and Hazlewood get going, it is very tough to play them.

Kieron Pollard, the West Indies skipper, says that they bowled quite well and it was a fantastic effort by the bowlers. About the batting, he says that he wants the guys to fight and let the bowlers work hard for their wicket. Adds that they didn't show that kind of fight and they have to find a way to deal with the new ball. Says that he wants to score against Australia and he is working hard to understand his strengths.

Mitchell Starc is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH, says that it was a special day as they had 3 debutants and Carey was captaining for the first time. Adds that they did really well in the Powerplay and it was a team performance. Says that he doesn't change too much when he plays white-ball cricket because his role is quite similar in T20Is and ODIs. Praises Carey for the way he batted and says that he was very calm.

Earlier in the game, Windies bowled quite well to restrict Australia to 252 in a rain-hit innings. Walsh was the destructor-in-chief as he took his first 5-wicket haul. While Joseph and Hosein took two each. For the visitors, their new skipper, Carey played a handy knock of 67 and was well supported by Turner in the middle overs.

The Aussies were ruthless with the ball. Starc took a wicket of the very first ball to set the tone. Then, the Starc - Hazlewood duo took 3 wickets each to rock the Windies' top order and had them at 27 for 6. There was some resistance offered by Joseph and Pollard with the skipper getting to his fifty, but Marsh took the wicket of Joseph to end that. Then, Starc came back for his second spell and got rid of Pollard and got to his 5-fer with the wicket of Hosein. The batting from West Indies was very poor, they lacked application and could not deal with the two-paced nature of the pitch. There were too many soft dismissals too. No one other than Pollard and Joseph, for a brief while, looked comfortable out there and they will be very disappointed with the way they batted.

A brilliant performance by the Aussies and they have outclassed West Indies. Their bowling was superb and made a decent score look like a mammoth one.

26.2W

OUT! CAUGHT! Adam Zampa gets the last wicket. Googly from him to dismiss Hayden Walsh. Tossed up on off. Walsh tried to defend by getting forward. Australia win by 133 runs (DLS method)!

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The Australian fielders are out in the middle. Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer walk out to bat. Mitchell Starc will start with the ball. Here we go..

Right then! 252 is what Australia have scored. The DLS revised target for West Indies will be 257, the pitch isn't the easiest to bat on so it will be interesting to see how they approach it. Do join us for the chase as it shall start in a short while.

Ashton Turner says that the conditions are really foreign to use but we are getting used to them due to the T20 series. Adds that the spinners will enjoy bowling here. Says that Alex and he got out at the wrong time but they still have a decent score. Further adds that the wicket will help the bowlers and they should look to take advantage of that.

West Indies did not have the best of starts with the ball as Sheldon Cottrell and Jason Holder struggled to find their rhythm at the start. But in the middle overs, Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph rocked the Australian top order with two wickets each. There was a strong stand in the middle overs and Aussies seemed well set to put on a massive score but Hayden Walsh dismissed both the set batters in the same over and went on to take his first 5-wicket haul in ODIs to make sure that the Australian tail doesn't wag much. He also became the first West Indian spinner to take 5-fer in ODIs since 2016.

Australia had a decent start as Josh Philippe and Ben McDermott put on a 50-run stand. Josh Philippe fell after getting a start of 39 runs and the same happened with Mitchell Marsh as he fell for 20. Moises Henriques struggled for a while before getting out while looking to sweep and Ben McDermott fell soon after. They were staring down the barrel but a brilliant stand between the skipper, Alex Carey, and Ashton Turner led the recovery. They put on a 100-run stand, Carey scored a fifty while Turner stayed on 49. There were three rain stoppages in between but the batters didn't seem to be too affected by them and carried on with their work. Carey and Turner fell in the same over in the death and their lower order imploded as they ended up scoring 252 in 49 overs.

A good bowling performance by West Indies means that they have restricted Australia to an average score. The Australian batting was all about that one partnership in the middle overs as everyone else struggled to get going on a two-paced pitch.

FOUR! Tossed up outside off. Adam Zampa looks to smash the ball hard. Gets a thick outside edge and the ball races away to the boundary. The short third man fielder has no chance to stop that one. So, Australia have put up 252 runs on the board, but the target for West Indies according to DLS would be 257!

48.51

Flatter ball on stumps. Josh Hazlewood looks to heave it over mid-wicket, gets an outside edge which hits Pooran's helmet. And the ball rolls towards square leg.

48.40

Googly. Outside off. Josh Hazlewood slogs hard, but misses.

Josh Hazlewood is the last man in.

OUT! STUMPED! AND Hayden Walsh gets a well-deserved five-for. Tossed up outside off. Wes Agar dances down the track and misses the heave over long off. Nicholas Pooran whips the bails off and Wes Agar departs. Wide called but Walsh won't mind!

48.32

Short and wide. Wes Agar hits this one just wide off the long off fielder for a couple of runs.

48.21

Darren Ganga is down for the pitch report, says that the straight boundary is 70 meters in length but the boundaries square of the wicket are smaller. Adds that teams usually like to chase here and there is some even covering of grass on the surface.

Justin Langer, the Australian coach, is down for a chat. Says that he loves being back in Barbados. Adds that it was a tough T20 series but they are getting better now. Says that there are challenges of being in a bio-bubble because you cannot explore the countries where you tour. Further says that they miss the crowds that used to come pre-covid.

Pollard says that he is happy to be back and his body is doing well. Adds that he would have batted first as well but the toss is also 50-50.

Alex Carey says that the wicket looks quite nice. Adds that it is a great privilege to lead the side and he is really excited. Informs that Josh, Ben and Wes will make their debut

West Indies (Playing XI) - Evin Lewis, Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Mohammed, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Kieron Pollard (C), Jason Holder, Hayden Walsh, Sheldon Cottrell, Alzarri Joseph, Akeal Hosein.

Australia (Playing XI) - Ben McDermott, Josh Philippe, Mitchell Marsh, Moises Henriques, Alex Carey (C & WK), Ashton Turner, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Starc, Wes Agar, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

TOSS - The news from the middle is that Australia have won the toss and they will bat first.

Fun fact - This is Australia's first ODI since they played India back in December 2020 and Alex Carey and Moises Henriques are the only batsmen from that side to be in the squad now. Matthew Wade was not a part of that side but was very much a part of the squad and in all likelihood, should slot in for Finch tonight. To say that a lot depends on these senior folks, would be an understatement.

Australia on the other hand will be led by Alex Carey for the first time as Aaron Finch is ruled out of the 1st ODI due to an injury. It will be interesting to see if Mitchell Marsh brings his red hot form into the ODI series and helps them put on a better fight after a disappointing T20I series. Young and promising Josh Philippe could well be used by Australia at the top of the order in absence of Finch. Australia badly need their batting unit to step up and support their bowlers which they failed to do in the T20 series. It promises to be a cracker of a match. Stay tuned for the toss and the team news.

Hello and welcome to one and all! The action now shifts to the iconic Kensington Oval, Barbados. Another riveting contest awaits us as two strong limited-over sides will go head to head in a three-match ODI series. West Indies led by Kieron Pollard, if he is fit, will be coming into the ODI series high on confidence as they clinched the T20 series quite comfortably. There would be some new faces in the WI squad with the likes of Shai Hope, Roston Chase, Alzarri Joseph, etc.
