Commentary
We are back for West Indies' reply. The two umpires make their way out to the middle and so do the two West Indies openers. Indian players are seen in a huddle before they disperse. Brandon King and Kyle Mayers will open the innings for West Indies. Hardik Pandya will start with the new ball for India. Here we go...
... THE RUN CHASE ...
Right then, West Indies will be the happier of the two sides at the halfway mark. That said, Shai Hope and Co. will be aware that the job is only half done as batting isn't that easy on this wicket. On the other hand, India would have wanted to cross the 200-run mark but they do have something to bowl at. With the extra spin option in Axar Patel, they have the resources to make a match out of this. Can they succeed in doing so? We shall find out after we return in a bit for the chase.
Romario Shepherd is in for a chat. He says that there was more intensity and he tried to run in hard and tried not to bowl too full. Adds that he got a wicket early in his spell and they tried to just squeeze on the pressure. Mentions that he has a certain role now and he is happy to work hard. Says that the pitch isn't much different from the first game and it is a bit slow as well. Ends by saying that it will be challenging but is confident that the batters will get the job done.
After India were inserted into bat under testing conditions, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill weathered the storm without much fuss and got India off to a solid start. Kishan continued his brilliant run of form in the Caribbean with his second consecutive ODI fifty while Gill seemed to have found his touch before departing. From 90-0, in no time, India were reduced to 97-3. Sanju Samson and Hardik Pandya then got together but both departed in quick succession before the rain arrived. After play resumed, Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja began a rebuilding job but as was the case earlier in the innings, one followed the other back in the hut soon after. India had a glimmer of hope when Shardul Thakur was batting but even the 'Lord' could not come to their rescue. Towards the end, Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav did string a 14-run partnership for the last wicket which might well prove to be vital.
Having won what was a crucial toss in overcast conditions, West Indies needed their new ball bowlers to strike early. However, it did not go according to plan as they were unable to ruffle the feathers of the Indian openers. That said, the West Indies bowling unit never looked back after breaking the opening stand. They were disciplined with their lines and lengths and had India struggling at 113-5. The two rain interruptions did not hamper their momentum one bit as they kept chipping with wickets at regular intervals. Moreover, their bowling was backed up by equally good effort in the field. Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd were the stars of the show, accounting for 3 wickets each while Alzarri Joseph had two wickets to his name.
Boy oh boy, this has been some bowling performance by the West Indies! After a crushing defeat in the first ODI, they needed to bounce back and they certainly have and how. India's woes with the bat have continued in the second ODI and have failed to bat their full quota of 50 overs. In the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the visitors have been rolled over for 181.
OUT! CAUGHT! Gudakesh Motie picks up his third wicket and India gets bundled out inside 41 overs. Motie just shortens the length a bit and turns this one away from the leg stump. Mukesh Kumar looks to tuck it leg side but gets a leading edge toward cover. Shimron Hetmyer there moves to his left and takes a simple catch. West Indies with a strong showing in the field as India are all out for 181 runs.
Gives it some air and flights it outside off, Mukesh Kumar looks for the drive but adjusts well and blocks it out on the off side.
Fuller one, drifted onto middle and leg, this is driven toward mid on.
Flighted delivery, full and on the stumps, Kuldeep Yadav gets an inside edge toward backward square leg and picks up a single.
Very full and outside off, Kuldeep Yadav looks to cream it through covers but is well beaten.

FOUR! Mukesh Kumar is off the mark in international cricket. Good length around off, Kumar gets squared up and gets an outside edge that goes wide of the man at first slip and runs away into the fence.
Just too much pace to handle! Length ball around the top of off, Mukesh Kumar looks back to the keeper as the ball zips past him.
Mukesh Kumar is the last man in.
OUT! TAKEN! Another sublime catch and West Indies have been brilliant in the outfield. Alzarri Joseph bowls a cross-seamer delivery and bangs it in midway around the off stump. Umran Malik backs away and tries to drag the pull shot over the mid-wicket fence. The ball takes the bottom part of the bat and goes over mid-wicket. Keacy Carty sprints in from deep square leg and puts in a full-stretched drive to grab it with both hands.
We are all set to resume. The two umpires and players have made their way out to the middle. Umran Malik and Kuldeep Yadav will resume their innings for India. Alzarri Joseph is at the top of his mark and is raring to complete his over. Off we go...
Commentary

Shai Hope is the Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 63 runs from 80 balls, guiding West Indies to victory. He starts by saying that irrespective of his score, he is happy as long as the team wins. Shares that when it is difficult to score, it is important to run hard. Mentions that he is very satisfied with this win. States that they will come hard again and look to get over the line in the next game as well. Reckons that they showed good attitude in the field. Reckons that it was a challenging surface with the bat and they need to replicate the same attitude and effort.
Hardik Pandya, the stand-in skipper of India, says that they did not bat the way they were supposed to. Adds that this was a much better wicket. Mentions that barring Shubman Gill, everyone found the fielder perfectly. Shares that it was a good opening stand. Feels that Ishan Kishan and Shardul Thakur were the two positives from this game. Informs that his body is fine and needs to bowl more overs to get ready for the ODI World Cup. Ends by saying that a 1-1 scoreline brings out the character out of everyone.
The Presentation ceremony...
West Indies skipper Shai Hope won a crucial toss and decided to bowl first given the overcast conditions and chances of rain throughout the game. This decision didn't bear fruit until they got their first wicket with India's score being 90 runs. From thereon though, Romario Shepherd bowled a lovely spell and the hosts managed to pick up wickets in clusters in a span of few overs. Everyone contributed with wickets apart from Kyle Mayers with Gudakesh Motie and Romario Shepherd ending with three each. For India, Ishan Kishan scored yet another half-century on this tour and Shubman Gill too looked good till he got out but after that, the middle order totally crumbled and they somehow managed to get to the 180-run mark. In reply, with the game hanging in the balance, Shai Hope and Keacy Carty put on an unbeaten stand of 91 runs to take their side to victory.
India rested a couple of their big guns in the batting department which definitely made a big difference and they had a sub-par total on the board. But their bowling attack in general also lacked a bit of bite and apart from Shardul Thakur no one really showed up as he picked up three wickets and gave his side half a chance. The pace trio of Hardik Pandya, Mukesh Kumar and Umran Malik was off-colour, and even in the spin department, only Kuldeep Yadav did a bit of damage. The ground fielding was also not up to their high standards and they will now look to bounce back strong in the series decider.
A resilient showing from the Windies skipper Shai Hope and Keacy Carty has taken their side to a first ODI win against India since 2019, breaking a run of nine successive losses and more importantly has allowed the hosts to level the series. It really was a solid all-around display from West Indies as the skipper led from the front with the bat and they will be fairly pleased with that effort. The win was set up nicely by the bowlers and the fielders and this was backed up by a fiery opening start by Kyle Mayers. However, they lost a couple of wickets in quick succession and the same happened after a few overs again. Then came the all-vital stand as skipper Shai Hope ended up with a match-winning half-century and Keacy Carty remained unbeaten on a crucial 48 as well. They will now look to build on this win and clinch the decider.
FOUR! THAT'S IT! Keacy Carty finishes things off in style for West Indies! Hardik continues to go short and just outside off, Keacy Carty backs away and thumps it with a flat bat. Gets it over extra cover and it almost went the distance. The ball falls agonizingly short of the ropes and Keacy Carty will remain unbeaten on 48. West Indies win by 6 wickets!
FOUR! Smart batting! Short and around off by Pandya, Keacy Carty allows the ball to come to him and gets it off the outer half of the bat to the third man fence for four runs.
DROPPED! It's been that kind of a day for India! Pandya bangs it in short, on middle, Keacy Carty looks to go for the pull. The ball climbs on him and gets it off the splice of the bat. The ball lobs towards mid on where Kuldeep Yadav dives forward but fails to cling on.
Back of a length, outside off, Shai Hope uses the pace of the delivery and pats it down to third man for one.

Drinks break! This game looked like a low-scoring thriller but the partnership between skipper Shai Hope and Keacy Carty has all but got the job done for West Indies. India had a great chance of making further in-roads but haven't been able to pick up wickets and the sloppy fielding hasn't helped them stem the flow of runs either. With just 34 runs needed and 6 wickets in hand, its hard to see the hosts losing this one but we have seen stranger things happen in a game of cricket.

Drinks break! We have got a real contest on our hands it seems as the game is on a knife's edge at the moment. West Indies got off to a solid start thanks to some sensational shot-making by Kyle Mayers but then the double blow from Shardul Thakur to get rid of both the openers in the same over pulled things back for India. Thakur added a third wicket which means this partnership between Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer becomes a crucial one for both sides.

Flighted delivery, full and on the stumps, Kuldeep Yadav gets an inside edge toward backward square leg and picks up a single.

UPDATE - 10.42 pm IST (5.12 pm GMT) - Oops! It has started to rain again! The trend of a wicket bringing about rain has continued even in the ODI series. The ground staff rush in with the covers and have now covered the entire square. The rain has come at the wrong time for the West Indies who were into India's tail and were just two wickets away from bowling them out. Just as we type, the rain has subsided and the ground staff have removed the covers as well. Stick around as resumption is not far away.

Thakur gets pushed on the back foot as he looks to block but gets beaten for pace and the ball goes past the inside edge to hit the back pad. A loud appeal from Joseph and the finger is raised, On reviewing, there is no spike on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking shows that it is umpire's call on impact and wickets as hitting. PITCH REPORT - Shakera Selman and Daren Ganga are pitchside. Ganga says that the boundaries are pretty much the same and it is the same pitch used on the first ODI. Selman adds that a lot of grass has been rolled into the deck and bowlers might get some extra bounce. Ganga then informs that there was variable bounce last time around and it might be the same yet again along with the dominance of spinners. Selman ends by saying that the batters will face a stern challenge but the firmness might allow them to score a bit easier.
Hardik Pandya, the stand-in skipper of India, says that they wanted to bat first anyway. Adds that they want to challenge the batters by batting first. Mentions that they want to know how much they can score while batting first. Shares that the wicket was up and down in the last game. Informs that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are resting as a few questions need to be answered. Reckons that it was a tremendous bowling effort and the fielding was equally good. Feels that they could have finished the game well rather than being 5 wickets down. Ends by informing that Sanju Samson and Axar Patel come into the side.
Shai Hope, the captain of West Indies says that they will bowl first and reckons that the conditions will help the bowlers early on. Adds that they need to put the last game behind them and look ahead to performing better. Mentions that the pitch has been a bit uncertain but both teams have to play on it, so, it's okay. Says that they have the opportunity to bowl first here and will look to put the opposition under pressure. Informs that Rovman Powell and Dominic Drakes are out and Alzarri Joseph along with Keacy Carty comes into the side.
India (Playing XI) - Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan (WK), Sanju Samson (In for Rohit Sharma), Hardik Pandya (C), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel (In for Virat Kohli), Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar.
West Indies (Playing XI) - Kyle Mayers, Brandon King, Alick Athanaze, Shai Hope (C/WK), Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Keacy Carty (In for Rovman Powell), Yannic Cariah, Jayden Seales, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph (In for Dominic Drakes).
TOSS - The two captains are out in the middle. The coin toss lands in the favour of Shai Hope and the West Indies have opted to BOWL first.
On the other hand, a clinical effort by India's spin twins, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, helped them skittle the West Indies out in 23 overs. The visitors opted to promote the middle and lower-order batters and did stutter a bit in the chase. However, Ishan Kishan's entertaining fifty was enough to take India over the line. Despite the massive margin of victory, Rohit Sharma and Co. are likely to continue experimenting in their quest to fine-tune their team combinations ahead of the ODI World Cup. There is a bit of weather around but let's hope it stays away. Will we see India gain an unassailable 2-0 lead? Or will the West Indies manage to force a series decider? Let’s find out. Toss and team news coming up shortly...
In the first ODI, the West Indies failed to show up with the bat, surrendering themselves against India's spin brilliance. Only 3 batters were able to reach double figures and as a result, they could only muster 114 runs. Skipper Shai Hope fought a lone fight and would want others to put their hands up in this fixture. Gudakesh Motie and Yannic Cariah bowled their hearts out in the second half, but a low total meant they were unable to defend the total. The West Indies fans will be hoping that their side can put in a complete performance and draw level in the series.
Hello and a warm welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to our coverage of the 2nd ODI between the West Indies and India at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. Having registered a comprehensive victory in the first ODI, India hold a 1-0 lead heading into the game. The visitors will be hoping to seal the series with a win in this game, whereas the West Indies will look to bounce back and take the three-match ODI series to a decider.
... MATCH DAY ...
India destroyed West Indies in the first ODI and continued their momentum from the Test series. Windies cricket is going through a very tough phase but they will hope for a better response in this second ODI at the Kensington Oval to take it to a decider while the visitors will want to seal it with another victory. The hosts need a lot of improvement in the batting department as they couldn't even play 30 overs while batting first and suffered an embarrassing defeat. Only their captain, Shai Hope looked in control out there but got no support from others. They will hope that young Alick Athanaze can take confidence from the Test series and perform well here too while experienced players like Brandon King, Shimron Hetmyer, and Rovman Powell need to take more responsibility. They went with Dominic Drakes and Jayden Seales as frontline pacers while Yannic Cariah and Gudakesh Motie handled the spin department well. They tried their best in the previous game but just didn't have enough runs to play with. Windies could bring in Alzarri Joseph and Oshane Thomas to add some raw pace and experience to the bowling attack. They will hope that their players turn up for this game and challenge visitors. India, on the other hand, experimented with their batting order as their skipper, Rohit Sharma wanted to give the middle order some game time. Ishan Kishan scored an excellent fifty at the top but the lean patch of Shubman Gill continued while Suryakumar Yadav is yet to settle in this format. Virat Kohli didn't get the chance to bat but we know what he can do with the blade while Hardik Pandya will hope to get some runs under his belt too. However, it was the bowling that set up the win for them with a brilliant spell from Kuldeep Yadav who picked up four wickets while Ravindra Jadeja grabbed three as the pacers also supported them well. They could think about bringing Yuzvendra Chahal in as the wickets are favourable to the spinners. They have the upper hand on the hosts and will want to take the series in this match only. Will India seal it with another victory? Or will the Windies bounce back and level the series? We will find out soon.
