Right then, that is all we have from this game. The second T20I will be played on Thursday, 19th May. That game is set to begin at 4:30 pm IST (11:00 am GMT). Our coverage, though, will start in advance. Do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!

Craig Ervine has been named Player of the Match for his innings of 55.

Earlier in the day, after electing to bat first, Zimbabwe put on 153 runs on the board thanks to a brilliant captain's knock from Craig Ervine and a decent cameo from Sikandar Raza. The bowling from Namibia was good with Bernard Scholtz picking up two wickets and skipper Gerhard Erasmus too doing an economical job. Chasing a getable target, Namibia's innings got off to an ideal start but as the match got tighter, the lower order batters just found it tougher to score and Zimbabwe ended up winning the match.

The Zimbabwe bowlers deserve a round of applause and deservingly so. After their batters had put on a below-par total on the board, the opening bowlers too couldn't make inroads inside the Powerplay. However, the introduction of Milton Shumba was the turning point as he picked up three wickets and turned the game on its head. Tendai Chatara then closed out the game well and the hosts have the early lead in the series.

Namibia will be kicking themselves after that loss. They were cruising along at one point and with Divan la Cock set at the crease, they would not have expected to falter like this. After a strong showing with the ball, the openers put Namibia in command but a poor show from the middle order have caused them dearly.

What a start to the series we've had! Zimbabwe have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to take a 1-0 lead in the five match series.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The players are out in the middle. Divan la Cock and Craig Williams will open the batting for Namibia. Tendai Chatara will begin the proceedings with the ball. Let's go!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

After losing the toss, Namibia were put on the back foot in the initial few overs. But they fought back exceptionally well and grabbed two wickets in quick succession. They did not grab many wickets in the middle phase but made sure not to leak too many runs. Whenever Zimbabwe were looking to go for big shots and Namibia fought back well and grabbed the wickets. Namibia used as many as 8 bowlers in this innings and it was the spinners that were causing all the trouble. Bernard Scholtz was the pick of the bowlers, he grabbed 2 wickets and gave away just 19 runs in his spell of 4 overs. Namibia could fancy their chances of winning the first game, but the conditions are suiting the bowlers and it's not going to be easy to chase this down.

Zimbabwe got off to a good start with Regis Chakabva and Wesley Madhevere scoring freely. But once they departed, Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza steadied the ship and took control of the game. They were scoring at a brisk rate, rotating the strike well and as a result, they put a partnership of 71 runs. Sikandar Raza did perish in trying to accelerate the innings and once he departed the runs had dried up. Craig Ervine's 55 has helped Zimbabwe set a target of 154. He has given the bowlers something to bowl at now.

26 runs off the last two overs have helped Zimbabwe cross the 150-mark. They have put a respectable total on the board now. But Namibia will be the happier side after the first innings. They might have not grabbed many wickets but they have restricted Zimbabwe to a par score of 153. The hosts were well in control of the game in the middle phase but lose their way towards the end. They might be feeling they fell short of around 15 runs.

The ball goes quickly towards extra cover where Gerhard Erasmus takes a good low catch. Pikky Ya France has his man and seems happy. Zimbabwe are getting pegged back just when they looked to be in control.

Namibia are coming off a T20I series victory against Uganda a month ago and will look to repeat the trick here. The likes of skipper Gerhard Erasmus and the experienced JJ Smit impressed in that series with the latter taking a five-fer as well. Namibia will now have a slightly difficult challenge against hosts Zimbabwe and will need to up their game in order to get the job done but keeping in mind what they did at the 2021 T20 World Cup, Namibia are no slouches. Zimbabwe on the other hand, have had a long break of about four months before returning to international cricket. Their last series was against Sri Lanka and the touring Zimbabwean team got the three-match ODI series leveled at 1-1 before getting humbled in the final game but it was a strong showing from them nevertheless. They are now at home and will go up against a pumped-up Namibian side. Skipper Craig Ervine will look to lead his side to a vital series win here. Stay tuned for the toss and team news.

Hello and a warm welcome to the first of the five-match T20I series between Zimbabwe and Namibia at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. International cricketing action is back and here we will see two teams who will look to battle it out and prove that they are Africa's second-best cricketing nation behind South Africa. With both sides looking to bolster their chances of qualifying for the 2024 T20 World Cup, it sure will be an exciting watch.
