Commentary
We are back for the run chase. The umpires are back out in the middle and so are the players of Afghanistan, who form a huddle before taking their places on the field. The duo of Brandon King and Shai Hope is all set to open the innings for West Indies. Fazalhaq Farooqi will get proceedings underway with the ball. Let's go...
... The Run Chase ...
Game in the balance - Even after a strong showing with the bat, Afghanistan have posted 182 runs on the board and West Indies will feel, with their batting line-up, 183 is gettable. However, the biggest challenge for the Windies will be countering the Afghans spinners in the middle overs and that could be the decisive battle. Stay tuned as the run chase is up next.
West Indies searching for consistency - It was a hot and cold outing in the field for the Windies as they couldn't build any sort of pressure in the Powerplay. The spinners bowled well in the middle phase, especially the duo of Roston Chase and Gudakesh Motie but the wickets were hard to come by. They did benefit a bit thanks to Afghanistan retiring out a few batters but Shamar Joseph did bowl a fine last over to close it out. West Indies will look to make a few tweaks going forward, especially with how their pacers bowled today.
Afghans flex their might with the bat - A solid showing with the bat from Afghanistan and the platform was laid right at the top by their openers. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the aggressor up top as he usually is. He scored 43 before getting out and after that, it was Ibrahim Zadran who took the reins and hit a half-century before being retired out. The Afghans continued to press forward with the bat as the likes of Azmatullah Omarzai and Darwish Rasooli played a couple of handy cameos before being retired out as well.

Commentary
That's a wrap, folks! So, that brings curtains to this contest between Afghanistan and West Indies but don't go anywhere, as the lights are switched on in the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, as India will take on South Africa. The buildup has already started there. You can switch the tabs and join us there. Cheers for now.
No respite for the two-time Champions - The West Indies find themselves facing significant scrutiny following a lackluster warm-up performance that underscored lingering concerns from a grueling international circuit. Their execution with the ball faltered as they allowed Afghanistan to dictate terms, and the batting unit subsequently buckled under the raw pace of the Afghan frontline attack. Most concerning for the Windies was their inability to stitch together a formidable partnership or find a rhythm until that 8th wicket stand between Matthew Forde and Jason Holder. Forde struck a valiant fifty but it was too little too late for the Windies. This defeat leaves the two-time champions with more questions than answers as they scramble to find form before their World Cup campaign officially begins.
Minnows no more - Afghanistan delivered a clinical performance, setting a dominant tone from the outset with a robust 90-run opening partnership anchored by Ibrahim Zadran’s half-century. Azmatullah Omarzai provided the late-innings fireworks, delivering a sharp cameo that propelled the total past the 180-run mark. The momentum shifted seamlessly to the defense, where the frontline pace attack dismantled the West Indies' top order by claiming four crucial wickets within the Powerplay. Remarkably, Afghanistan asserted their dominance and checked every tactical box without even needing to utilize Rashid Khan, signaling their status as a formidable force in the tournament.
The Afghans are flying high - Afghanistan head into the World Cup brimming with confidence after securing back-to-back dominant victories in their warm-up campaign. Following a thumping performance that dismantled Scotland in their opening fixture, they maintained their clinical edge by beating the West Indies today, whilst always staying ahead in the game. This ruthless display of form across both matches suggests the Afghan side are perfectly acclimated and ready to be a major threat when the main event begins.

The captain of Afghanistan - Ibrahim Zadran, the stand-in skipper, says they would have bowled first as well. Shares they are coming with confidence after beating the West Indies recently. Hopes to tune in to the warm-up matches before going into the World Cup. Acknowledges the experience in the squad.
West Indies captain - Shai Hope says they will bowl first as he feels they have lost several tosses recently and want to bat second. Tells that they want to cover every basis before going into the World Cup and go with confidence.
West Indies - Shai Hope (C/WK), Brandon King, Quentin Sampson, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Roston Chase, Johnson Charles, Jayden Seales, Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein, Matthew Forde, and Shamar Joseph.
Afghanistan - Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Ibrahim Zadran (C), Darwish Rasooli, Sediqullah Atal, Shahidullah Kamal, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Ishaq, Rashid Khan, Abdullah Ahmadzai, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Noor Ahmad.
TOSS - The flip of the coin lands in favour of West Indies. They will BOWL first.
Strong start leads to positive momentum - Afghanistan are placed in a tightly contested Group D alongside a couple of heavyweights. Winning both their warm-up matches would hand them a massive confidence boost as they began their campaign against New Zealand, and then against South Africa, with UAE and Canada to follow. West Indies, meanwhile, are slotted into Group C, where England pose the biggest threat, alongside associate sides Scotland, Nepal, and Italy. And with this being their only warm-up game, time to settle combinations and find rhythm is at a premium. Let’s see who performs better here.
The men in maroon search for their lost flair - Losing 2-1 to Afghanistan and then going down by the same margin against the Proteas, West Indies arrive with plenty of issues to iron out. They have lost big, lost close, and lost comprehensively, in almost every way possible. Despite flashes of quality, the knockout blow has repeatedly gone missing when it has mattered most. Under Shai Hope’s leadership, they have assembled a strong squad packed with firepower. The likes of Charles, Hetmyer, Rutherford, and Powell bring serious brute force, complemented by the class of Brandon King and Hope himself. Add to that a core of experienced, proven all-rounders led by Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd, and there is certainly no shortage of depth or muscle in this West Indies lineup.
The Afghans punch above their weight - These two sides locked horns recently in a thrilling three-match T20I series in the UAE, where Afghanistan flexed their growing muscle and walked away with a 2-1 win. Darwish Rasooli led the charge with a pair of half-centuries, while Ibrahim Zadran impressed with his consistency at the top. Rasooli has carried that form into the warm-ups as well, blasting a scintillating 84 off just 46 balls against Scotland in their opening outing. With the ball, Mujeeb and Rashid have been pivotal and are expected to make the most of subcontinental conditions, while Azmatullah Omarzai, who has been in decent form, adds a serious all-round edge to Afghanistan’s firepower
... MATCH DAY ...
