Commentary

Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where Ireland absolutely demolishes the USA to add another win to their bag. However, there is another game going on in the Super Six stage where Sri Lanka and Netherlands are battling it out for two crucial points. You can just switch tabs and catch all the action of that game.

Craig Young is the player of the match for his spell of 3 for 35 from his 7 overs. He says that he felt frustrated not to be picked early on but feels good to be back and help to team win. Adds that it has been a difficult past month or so physically for him but he is fi now and really happy to be back. Also adds that winnings the last game was like letting the monkey of the hat and they will continue playing in this manner now.

Andy Balbirnie the skipper of Ireland says that they had a disappointing week but they got to compete and win what was ahead of them. Adds that the four-year cycle is really important for a side like theirs and they are gutted to miss out on such a huge tournament. Adds that Paul Stirling still has the drive in him and he wouldn't be surprised to see him in another world cup. Closes by saying that Craig Young coming in and showing up with what exactly he offers is a captains dream and he is delighted with the game today.

Monank Patel the skipper of the USA says it is not at all easy to come here and get a result despite playing out heart out. Adds that he felt the team was 40-50 runs short of the target they wanted. Also adds that it is important for the side to learn from such a game and they will be looking to play an impressive brand of cricket in the last game for them. Mentions that Nosthush Kenjige was good and it feels brilliant to have a player like this who can stand up in a difficult situation.

USA were poor throughout. They were under-par with the bat earlier on and the bowling wasn't all that great either. Yes, they did not have enough runs on the board but they would have wanted the Irish to work hard for their runs which was not the case.

Ireland has breezed passed the challenge of the USA by 6 wickets. Quite an easy win in the end for the Irish. It was never in doubt to be honest after their excellent bowling performance. In reply, the openers got their side off to a brilliant start. Stirling scored a breezy half-ton. Both fell but the batters came in and chased it down without breaking a sweat.

...RUN CHASE...

Craig Young is in for a quick chat and says that it was nice to get through any batting line-up and we managed to do that well today. Adds that the plan was to bowl short stuff with cross seam and we executed it well today. Also adds that he was fit but just wasn't being picked as the other players were doing good. Closes by saying that he will be young forever and it feels so good to bowl them out for cheap now they would want to win.

Right then, the USA have 196 runs on the board. They will now be dependent on their bowlers to pick some early wickets and give some fight. For Ireland, the batters just need a good stand at the start, and they will be hoping to win this one. Which side will come out on top? Let's find out soon. Chase coming up shortly...

To be honest, there is nothing much to write about the USA batters. Sushant Modani and Saiteja Mukkamalla scored a half-century and that was it. Most of the USA batters were dismissed on a single digit which included a couple of the batters on duck as well. A late surge from Usman Rafiq helped to team to get to a fighting total but it still is a below-par score.

That was a clinical performance from the Irish bowlers. They never let the USA batters settle in the game. It was Young and McBrine at the start who ran havoc over the opponent batters. They chipped in with 3 and 2 wickets respectively. The 3rd wicket partnership was a bit difficult to break but they made sure the job was done.

The former were a good side to challenge for the top 3 spots but the defeat in the first game against Oman and another defeat against the mighty Lankans sealed their fate. They will be pretty upset with the performance but they will need to leave this behind and start fresh in this game.

The Super Six stages of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 are going on but there is another round of matches to see which team finishes seventh. Having been knocked out of the race to qualify for the World Cup, Ireland will be facing a winless USA in the 7th place play-off semi-final at the Takashinga Sports Club in Harare. Whoever wins will face either Nepal or UAE in the final. The Irish were expected to be challenging for the top three spots but the opening game defeat to Oman was a shocker and then a heartbreaking loss to Scotland and a thrashing against Sri Lanka sealed their fate. Although they won their last game against UAE and their players are in decent form, Paul Stirling who scored a big hundred in the last match, Andy Balbirnie, Harry Tector, and Lorcan Tucker form a strong top and middle order. Joshua Little and Mark Adair will be leading the bowling attack and will be key players to watch out for while Curtis Campher has been decent in both departments. They will be confident about getting the victory. USA, on the other hand, lost all their matches but it is the experience that matters most for them. However, They looked promising in their first outing and even though they lost, they had given West Indies a tough fight. Since then, USA’s performance has been a downward graph but their key players have also been suffering from illness which didn't help them too. Their batting hasn't been that great but Gajanand Singh scored a brilliant century against the Windies and Shayan Jahangir also looked in good touch but they needed more from their skipper, Monank Patel. Ali Khan, Jessy Singh, Abhishek Paradkar, and Saurabh Netravalkar are the bowlers who’ve made a significant impact with the ball and will be crucial if they want to put up a fight.
