Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by 23 runs

Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai

So, that is it from this game then! Cricketing action does not end here though as there is another game going on. A clash between Gujarat and Delhi. You can switch tabs and catch all the action from that game. Untill next time, goodbye and take care!

The MAN OF THE MATCH AWARD HAS BEEN GIVEN TO JOS BUTTLER! His knock was the difference between the two sides, had it not been for him, Rajasthan would not have got to the total they did.

Mumbai have stayed true to their character of being the slow-starters. However, they would feel that they were in with a great chance when Kishan and Varma wer going. Both the young batters notched up their respective fifties but failed to carry on. However, they lost the game when, David and Sams lost their wicket in one over against Chahal and after that it was too much for Pollard to do all by himself.

The foundation of this victory was led by Buttler has he smashed his second Indian T20 League century. The innings took Rajasthan to yet another good score and then with the ball with the presence of some experienced head in the bowling lineup, they managed to pull off a win. As mentioned earlier, it was the duo of Ashwin-Chahal who changed the game with three wickets in the matter of two overs when Mumbai were going strong and were ably supported by Boult. Krishna was bit expensive today but he set the tone with a big wicket of Sharma. Overall, it has been another convincing bowling performance by Rajasthan.

Rajasthan make it two in two and once again, they have successfully defended the target yet again, the only team so far to do so. They were under the pump though but Ashwin and Chahal in the 15th and 16th over respectively  displayed great maturity and killed the chase. Mumbai fought hard but have once again ended on the losing side.

OUT! TAKEN! A wicket to end things then and it is that man, the man for Rajasthan, Jos Buttler who takes the catch! Another full toss from Saini, this is outside off, Pollard hits it straight to deep cover where Buttler makes no mistake. End of a brilliant last over by Saini. Yes, he had a lot to defend but he did so brilliantly. RAJASTHAN WIN BY 23 RUNS!

19.5 0

Another dot! Not sure why Pollard is not running now, a yorker on off, this is jammed out to point.

19.4 0

Yet another dot! Make that 24 needed from 2. A full toss on off, this is hit hard down to long off for no runs.

19.3 0

Now Rajasthan can't lose if Saini bowls three legal deliveries! Fuller and on off, this is hit down to long off for one.

19.2 0

DOT! Another one of those and Rajasthan should get home! Full and outside off, Pollard looks to go big but misses.

19.1 4

FOUR! Samson won't mind fours! Mumbai still in the game though, 24 needed in 5. Full and outside off, this is hit hard through covers for a boundary.

19.1 wd 1

WIDE! Starts off with an extra. Well wide outside off, left alone.

Who will bowl the last over? Whoever it may be, he has 28 to defend against Pollard. It is going to be Saini. Pollard has hit 6 sixes in an over, he needs one les this time. Can he do a miracle here?

15.3 0

DROPPED! That would have been a hat-trick for Chahal! That is a big let off. Karun Nair, the subtitute, at fault! On middle, this lands and turns away. Ashwin looks to defend but it goes off the outside edge to the left of the first slip fielder who dives but spills it.

15.2 W 0

OUT! TAKEN! Sams goes on the very first ball and the game is slipping away now from Mumbai! Chahal has two in two. Everything now depends on Pollard. This is tossed up on middle, it is the leg spinner. Sams looks to heave it on the leg side, it goes off the top edge. Both long on and deep mid-wicket go for it. In the end it is Buttler from deep mid-wicket who takes it with a dive.

DRINKS! Have to believe, everything now depends on Pollard for Mumbai. Yes, Sams can hit it big but Pollard is the man with experience and it is he who Mumbai will be relying on. He has done it before, can he dot it again. On the other hand, Rajasthan will know, they are probably a wicket away from sealing the deal.

15.1 W 0

OUT! That is clipping the top of middle and the powerful David is a goner! This lands around leg and then turns away. David goes back and looks to defend but is beaten by the turn. It hits the pad. An appeal and the finger is raised. David reviews after a chat with Pollard. Replays roll in and they show that the on-field call is the right one. Mumbai do not lose a review but they do lose the Powerful David. Rajasthan on top now.

OUT! TAKEN! For a second, everybody thought, he had put it down! That is a tremendous catch from Navdeep Saini! He has had a poor day with the ball but has probably made up for it with that brilliant catch! Rajasthan back in the game now. The stand which was taking the game away has been broken. Shorter and on middle, this is pulled hard towards deep square leg. The fielder there runs to his right and nobody is sure whether he has taken it or not as he is down on the ground with pain. Players now come around him and start celebrating, Kishan is shown walking off which means he indeed has taken it. Boult has got the wicket his team needed. That is why he was got on. Not sure why Ishan played that. They already got enough runs in the over. Still though, a super knock from him. He has set this up for his side.

Drinks! Mumbai are going along nicely here depsite losing two wickets. Ishan Kishan is looking in great form and Tilak Varma is also looking quite comfortable in the middle. However, the target is a big one and with the quality in the ranks of Rajasthan, they would be backing themselves to defend this total. They need wickets here though and if they get Ishan Kishan out early after the break, they will be back at the driver's seat.

...THE RUN CHASE…

A lot will now depend on what kind of start do Mumbai get off too! The openers will have to do well. The middle order is a little inexperienced and Rajasthan will know that. Can Boult get a couple of early wickets against his former team? We will find out.

Except for Bumrah and Mills to some extent, the Mumbai bowlers were really poor. Sams too bowled well in bits and pieces but the rest were taken to the cleaners. Pollard, Thampi, whose overs we believe were the momentum changing one and Ashwin was quite wayward with his lines and lengths and due to that, they will now be chasing a big score.

The start though was not the best for Rajasthan as they lost two wickets inside the Powerplay. However, Samson and Buttler played brilliantly and laid the platform for a big score. Buttler was the mainstay for Rajasthan in this innings with a brilliant ton. The rest batted around him and he is the major reason as to why his side have gotten close to 200. However, they will be a tad disappointed they did not cross the 200-run mark.

End of a power-packed batting performance from Rajasthan but Mumbai will be pleased they have not let them cross the 200-run mark which looked very possible at one stage. The last two overs is what has not let Rajasthan run away with the game and has also given Mumbai the momentum. Still though, Rajasthan will be pretty pleased with their position in the game.

However, with Buttler still there and Shimron Hetmyer joining him now, Rajasthan have the firepower to post above 200 here. Can Mumbai bowlers bowl well in the death? They were poor in the last game, lets see how they go about their business today.

Mumbai (Unchanged Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan (WK), Anmolpreet Singh, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Tim David, Daniel Sams, Murugan Ashwin, Tymal Mills, Jasprit Bumrah, Basil Thampi.

Sanju Samson. the skipper of Rajasthan, says they also wanted to bowl first but they are pleased to bat first too. Mentions they just want to be smarter and adapt to the conditions quickly, they know they are a strong team but they need to keep up to the standards. Adds they have done a good job in the auction and they have no complains. Informs Saini comes in for Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai, says there is no reason to bowl first, it is a good pitch and chasing has been the trend of the tournament. Mentions dew is not going to be a factor but they want to chase and see what they can do. Mentions they are here to correct their wrongs from the last game and they will look to rectify their mistakes, they are a young side and will look to learn with every game. Informs they are playing the same team.

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of Mumbai. They have elected to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Rohan Gavaskar is down for the pitch report. He says that it is a third game on this ground and it is a fresh pitch today. He adds that the previous two games produced two different types of scores and it was because lengths were different in the second game and the bowler found help when they went shorter. Mentions that overall, it is a good pitch to bat on and there will be lot of runs but if bowlers find their length then it will be slightly tougher for the batters.

Rajasthan, on the other hand, displayed their might by becoming the only team in the season so far to win a game while defending the target. They have a bowling lineup to envy with four quality bowlers and the batting also looks formidable with plenty of firepower. The hard work at mega auction seems to have paid rich dividends but it has been just one game and they need to put forward consistent performance to go deep in the tournament. Can Sanju Samson and his boys make it two in two? Or will Mumbai roar back to register their first win of the season? We shall find out. Toss and team sheets in a while.

Mumbai have been traditionally slow starters in the Indian T20 League and they continued the trend with a loss in the first game. However, they will be disappointed with the way they let the game slip away in the death overs and that is one aspect of the game, they would be trying to work on. The batting unit did decently with Ishan Kishan leading the way and with Suryakumar Yadav back in the fold, the batting lineup looks quite a formidable one. Jasprit Bumrah had an off-day in the first game but expect Tymal Mills and Jasprit Bumrah to come out with better plans and execution in this game.

It’s time for the Super Saturday to unveil it’s colours and first up we have Mumbai locking horns against Rajasthan in a day game. We welcome everyone to our coverage as Mumbai steps out to get their first points on the board while we can expect Rajasthan to do everything in their control to continue the winning momentum.
