Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets

Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Right then, that's it from the coverage of this game. We meet again on Monday, 1st May for more action in the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League. It will be match number 43 where Lucknow will be locking horns against Bangalore and it will be another enthralling fixture coming your way. The first ball for the same will be at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, goodbye and cheers!

Yashasvi Jaiswal wins the Player of the Match award for his scintillating knock. He says the best moment was when he scored the century as he didn't know the ball went for a boundary. Adds that he thanked God at that moment. Tells that he has worked hard for this and was very happy with it. Mentions that he is mentally strong, focuses a lot on fitness and diet, and tries to be well organized. Tells that his favorite shot is the straight drive which gives him a lot of confidence especially when he clears his foot to play the shot. Ends by acknowledging the support for him.

Rohit Sharma, the victorious skipper is in for a chat. Starts by saying it was very pleasing to see how they chased down the target. Mentions that they bat really well when the score is in front of them. Informs that Tim David has got a lot of ability but it will take some time for him to fill the shoes of Pollard who has done it consistently for the side in the past and won plenty of trophies. Still believes that David has a lot more to offer and he possesses some great power. On Jofra Archer, he says that it won't be long before he finds his rhythm. Mentions that even Suryakumar Yadav looks sharp and is not away from his best version. On being asked about Yashasvi Jaiswal, he says that initially he was shocked looking at the power he generated in his shots. He even questioned him about the fact and to that the Rajasthan batter responded that he has been regularly visiting the gym. Tells that he is glad to see the growth of the youngster and says that it is a positive sign for the Indian cricket team and also his franchise.

Stay tuned for the presentation....

Tim David, the man of the moment is in for a chat. He says that it is an amazing result for them and the crowd was going absolutely crazy which is always the case here in Wankhede. Adds that he feels great to be part of this win and it will give them more confidence. Mentions that he felt every bowler had to be targeted and the conditions were good for batting. Says that every time a bowler missed the yorker you were in with a chance. Tells that he wanted to do something like this for a long time and is very happy to be on the winning side.

Sanju Samson, the skipper of Rajasthan says he was telling his bowlers to stay in the game and fight it out which they did but credits Suryakumar Yadav and the Mumbai batters for the way they played and says it was something special from Tim David. Tells that the ball was getting wet but not that wet and feels they had enough experience to deal with it. Mentions that they have been playing good cricket with results being in their favor or they get close in the end. Praises Yashasvi Jaiswal for his century and says he is very happy for him even though he ended up on the losing side.

Earlier in the game, Rajasthan were able to get over the 200-run mark, only thanks to an incredible knock from the youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal. He smacked 124 runs off just 62 balls, and apart from him no other batter for Rajasthan could even get to 20 runs. Although, later on, their bowlers could not defend this mammoth total.

Rajasthan would be extremely gutted with their performance with the ball. Sanju Samson might feel that he missed a trick by handing the final over to Holder who was one of the most expensive bowlers for them. Although, he might've been forced to make that decision as Kuldeep Sen left the field early due to some discomfort. Just like Mumbai, even Rajasthan leaked plenty of runs despite picking wickets at regular intervals and that costed them the game. Even their spinner took a beating today which is quite unusual. All-in-all it was a decent outing for Rajasthan with the ball. No one really could strangle this Mumbai batting attack, except Ashwin who tried to keep things tight with a spell of 4-0-27-2.

Mumbai never give up till the very end and that's a trait that they have mastered over the course of the competition. On the 1000th game of the Indian T20 League, Mumbai found their mojo back and picked up two crucial points at home. Much-needed victory for the hosts, as they were running out of momentum. It was not an ideal start for Mumbai with the bat, as they lost the birthday boy, Rohit Sharma early on. Despite losing him early, Ishan Kishan tried his best to find boundaries at regular intervals but he struggled with his timing throughout. He was joined by Cameron Green who had only one intention and that was to attack. The Australian smacked 44 runs off 26 balls. He certainly kept the side in the chase. It also looked like Suryakumar Yadav is back to his best. His 51-run stand with Varma set a perfect platform for Tim David to show his class. He racked up a 14-ball 45* and hit three maximums on the trot in the final over to get Mumbai over the line.

OH, MY WORD! WHAT WAS THIS FINISH! This is the first true glimpse of what Tim David can do wearing a blue jersey. He has undoubtedly become the hero of Mumbai. He was brought into the side to apply his finishing touches and he has delivered at a crucial juncture of the tournament this time around. Smiles across the Mumbai camp. A collective sigh of relief from the crowd as the third ball of the final over reached the crowd, which quickly turned into a carnival of joy. This is the best birthday present Rohit Sharma could've asked for.

SIX! Tim David finishes things off in style! Jason Holder misses his yorker yet again and serves a juicy full toss, on middle, Tim David waits for it and heaves it over the deep mid-wicket fence for the third maximum of the over. MUMBAI WIN 3 WICKETS!

Trent Boult lands this back of a length and on middle, slower too, Suryakumar Yadav moves across and tries to hook it over short fine leg but gets a top edge as the ball goes in the air behind that fielder where Sandeep Sharma runs backward and dives to grab it and also did well to hold onto it when he hit the ground. We are back for the chase! The players are already out there in the middle. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are the two openers for Mumbai. Sharma is also celebrating his 36th birthday and will hope to make it special with a big knock. Rajasthan uses their Impact Player as Kuldeep Sen comes in for Dhruv Jurel. Trent Boult is to start proceedings with the ball. Here we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Rajasthan have posted a huge total on the board, and with their bowling attack, they will be confident of defending this one. Mumbai though will need all their batting resources to fire if they want to gun this down. Who will come out on top in this historic game? To know join us in a bit for the run chase.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is in for a quick chat. He is our new Orange Cap holder. Starts by saying he enjoyed every bit of his knock. Says that he is glad that he could execute his plans to perfection. Mentions that he has worked on himself a lot, and thanks the backroom staff as well. Tells that he knows what his role is in the side and he just aims to control the run rate, it does not matter what is happening at the other end.

Mumbai, on the other hand, did not get the start they wanted and gave away too many extras which helped the batters to settle in. However, they were able to get back in the game in the middle overs courtesy of two crucial wickets from Piyush Chawla who has truly turned back time. Arshad Khan and Kumar Kartikeya also squeezed in some good overs to put more pressure on the batters but certainly did not have any answers to Yashasvi Jaiswal. Chawla and Khan picked up two wickets each while Arshad Khan was the pick of the bowlers with his three wickets. Jofra Archer and Riley Meredith chipped in with one each but they gave away 25 extras which could prove to be the difference in this game.

Rajasthan got off to a good start with Yashasvi Jaiswal being the aggressor and Jos Buttler playing the supporting role. They added 65 runs in the Powerplay but Buttler struggled throughout his inning and ultimately fell on 18. Sanju Samson also came in and played a few lusty blows and went back. Jaiswal continued his onslaught at one end but did not get much support from the other end. However, that did not affect him one bit as he looked like batting on a different pitch and did not spare any bowler. He scored a brilliant 124 runs off just 62 balls and took them past the 200-run mark and helped them post a daunting total.

Take a bow, Yashasvi Jaiswal! What a story he has been this season. We have previously seen Jos Buttler go hard for Rajasthan from the start but this season it has all been about the young, Jaiswal who very deservedly registered a magical hundred and makes this 1000th match even more special.

The 1000th match of the Indian T20 League is set to begin. Wankhede Stadium is looking gorgeous under the floodlights. Also, people have already gathered in large numbers, as the home crowd wants to make its presence felt on their skipper's birthday. A small ceremony is being held before we get going here. On a landmark day for the Indian T20 League, both the skippers get a memento. Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara also receive their share of it as well. Both the teams now stride out to the middle of the pitch and line up for the Indian national anthem.

Rohit Sharma, the birthday boy, also the skipper of Mumbai is in for a chat. Starts by remembering that they faced Rajasthan on his last birthday also and the result had gone their way that time and hopes it works in their favour this time as well. Agrees that it is been an up-and-down season for them but they come into this game looking to dominate across both departments. Adds that they have made a couple of changes, Jofra Archer and Arshad Khan come in for Jason Behrendorff and Arjun Tendulkar.

Sanju Samson, the captain of Rajasthan says that they will bat first. Adds that the wicket looks good and they would like to stick to their strengths and defend the total. Tells that they are playing a good brand of cricket and the conditions are different but they are up for the challenge. Mentions that the team management is doing a great job to keep the spirits high. Informs Boult comes back.

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of Rajasthan. Sanju Samson informs that they will BAT first.

Rajasthan, on the other hand, has been the team to beat this season. They are in sublime form and look like a settled team which is always a good thing. Sanju Samson has led his troops really well and used the resources available to him perfectly. Yashasvi Jaiswal is in top form and he has overshadowed Jos Buttler which says a lot and every batter has got some runs under their belts. Their bowling unit is one of the best and Trent Boult will be once again looking to get a wicket in the first over to add to his tally. The battle between him and Rohit Sharma will be very interesting to see and we cannot wait for this monumental game to start. Let's see who comes out on top. Toss and team news in a bit.

Mumbai have suffered from inconsistency and they haven't been at their best at all this season. Their form has been hot and cold with both bat and ball which is the reason they are not able to get a string of good results. There are some positives though as Suryakumar Yadav has somewhat found his touch and Cameron Green has produced match-winning all-round performances while Piyush Chawla has been their best bowler. However, Rohit Sharma will know that they will need others to step up big time if they want to get the win here.

Hello and a warm welcome folks! The Indian T20 League has provided us with all kinds of emotions from ecstasy to heartbreak and so much entertainment as well for over 15 years. Now, we are all set to witness a historic encounter in this league. The venue is Wankhede Stadium and the most successful team in the league, Mumbai will host last season's finalists, Rajasthan in the 1000th match of the Indian T20 League.

... MATCH DAY ...

We are inching towards a crucial phase in the 16th edition of the Indian T20 League as every result has a massive impact on the points table. We have seen in the past how teams that struggled in the first half of the competition have gone on a winning run and even gone on to win the title. The teams acquiring the playoff spots will want to consolidate their position at the top but we expect the chasing pack to come out all guns blazing. It's going to be yet another beautiful evening at the Wankhede Stadium as Mumbai get ready to host Rajasthan in Match 42. The multiple-time champions are going through a lean patch after building a 3-match winning momentum and it's more to do with their unsettled bowling group than anything else. Conceding 200-plus runs in both the last encounters has put a lot of pressure on their batting unit which has found some good form but the task at hand has been quite tough. The hosts will be hoping to fix the recurring issues with their bowling and put together a team performance. On the contrary, Rajasthan stopped their 2-match losing run with a thumping win against Chennai and will be oozing with confidence. Their batting unit has been the main strength and although there has been an air of inconsistency, it has more often than not put up a sizable fight. The Pink team's bowling group has been in the pink of health and their attack can be considered as one of the most potent ones this season. They have class and experience in both the pace and spin departments and the likely return of Trent Boult will only bolster them. Rajasthan possess some infallible arrows in their quiver and it remains to be seen if Mumbai have the shield to defend and the zeal to outclass their rivals. Expect a tight contest.
