Delhi Capitals beat Punjab Kings by 15 runs

Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala

That is it from this game! The action continues as Hyderabad will take on Bangalore on the 18th of this month at 7.30 pm IST (1400 GMT). Another crunch game coming up. Join us earlier for the build-up. Cheers!

Rilee Rossouw is the Player of the Match. He says the team management backed him to play his game. Adds it was a good wicket and it suits their game. Mentions the momentum was with them when he came out to bat and the openers had laid a good foundation. Admits they saw the game is not over until the last ball and ends by applauding the way Liam Livingstone played.

David Warner says it was a bad fielding performance. Shares it was a good wicket to bat on and they backed their strength. Credits the way Prithvi Shaw and Rilee Rossouw played. Tells they wanted consistency at home venues but there are little things which have not gone their way.

Shikhar Dhawan says they should have taken early wickets with the ball swinging early on. Adds there was hope till the last over as Liam Livingstone played superbly but unfortunately it didn't happen for them. Admits his decision to bowl spin in the last over backfired. Shares that they gave away too many runs at the backend which shifted the momentum Delhi's way. Mentions their bowlers didn't bowl in the right areas and it hurts them. Tells he knew the ball will swing in the second innings but they didn't start well.

Presentation time...

Livingstone delivered but not Punjab! Even luck was on their side but it was not just their night! Punjab lost Shikhar Dhawan early on and with the ball swinging dearly, they didn't have the best start. Atharva Taide held things though and once Liam Livingstone joined him, both made most of the freebies and lifelines given to them. It could have been a lot different had one of their power hitters, Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan or Sam Curran hung on with Livingstone till the end. Punjab lost momentum with the ball in the final three overs where they gave away plenty of runs and that proved to be costly. In the end, Delhi played the perfect party-spoilers job here.

Punjab needed two points badly but now they are almost at the exit door. Delhi could have wrapped this game very early. They dropped a couple of catches, had a couple of run out chances missed and a few no-balls at the wrong time stretched this game. Delhi though did well to keep taking wickets from one end despite fireworks from Livingstone. It was always going to be tough to defend with dew out there. However, they held on to their nerve in crunch moments to pick up a win.

What an entertaining match! Liam Livingstone was very new to the crease when he was dropped off Kuldeep Yadav by Anrich Nortje. Who would have thought that Livingstone would go on to take the game right till the last over! One of the most dramatic matches of this season but can only say, well played Liam Livingstone.

We are back. As expected Prabhsimran Singh comes in as the Impact Player for Nathan Ellis. He will open with Shikhar Dhawan.  Mukesh Kumar too comes in as the Impact Player for Prithvi Shaw. Khaleel Ahmed to start with the ball.

...THE CHASE...

Everything Shikhar Dhawan thought of has turned out in a negative way. Punjab opted to bowl and have conceded more than 210. Shikhar Dhawan gambled by giving Harpreet Brar the last over ahead of Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh and the spinner conceded 23 runs. Not a good performance with the ball as Punjab were too sloppy but there is no time for them to think much. It is a must-win for them and they have to chase this down anyhow. Will we see another Prabhsimran Singh special against Delhi? We will find out soon.

A bit late but Delhi have finally found their mojo. They badly needed to perform with the bat! Finally, the top four have stepped up. The formidable David Warner and Prithvi Shaw pair stepped up as they gave the perfect start. David Warner was taking charge before his partner too joined him. The skipper fell four short, but Shaw ended his run-drought by scoring a fifty. The intent never dropped from Delhi as later on, Rilee Rossouw and Philip Salt joined hands to give the perfect finish with Rossouw scoring the bulk of the runs.

A must win for Punjab. A win here will keep their hopes alive for the playoffs race while Delhi's run is over but not yet as they will look to end the tournament on a high and away from the final spot. It is time for action. The Punjab players are out in the middle. David Warner and Prithvi Shaw to open for Delhi. Sam Curran to start with the ball. A slip in place. Let's play...

Impact Players for Delhi - Mukesh Kumar, Abishek Porel, Ripal Patel, Pravin Dubey, Sarfaraz Khan.

Impact Players for Punjab - Prabhsimran Singh, Sikandar Raza, Matthew Short, Rishi Dhawan, Mohit Rathee.

DELHI (Playing XI) - David Warner (C), Prithvi Shaw, Philip Salt (WK), Rilee Rossouw, Axar Patel, Aman Khan, Yash Dhull, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed.

Shikhar Dhawan says they will bowl first as it is a new track. Shares the destiny is in their own hands but they want to enjoy the game, stay calm and focus on the process. Informs they have made a couple of changes as Atharva Taide and Kagiso Rabada come in the XI.

TOSS - PUNJAB have won the toss and will BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT - Simon Doull says the square boundaries are 65 meters while it's 76 meters down the ground. Matthew Hayden joins and says the surface is hard and there isn't much movement in these cracks. Feels the seamers will enjoy the conditions and thinks the par score should be around 180.

Last week only Delhi faced Punjab where we saw the young, Prabhsimran Singh score a magnificent century. Revenge will be playing on Delhi's mind who are playing nothing but for pride. They will hope for some fearless cricket and end Punjab's hope in their own backyard. For the first time this season, Dharamsala will host a match. It's a high-scoring ground so expect an entertaining contest. Stay tuned for toss and other updates.

Hello and welcome to the 64th match in the Indian T20 League. We are into the final week of group stages and things are getting tight for teams to book the remaining three playoffs place. It is time for Punjab to take on Delhi. Punjab have a lot to play for, they are still in the qualification race and need to win their remaining matches at least. Delhi on the other hand have been handed their home ticket as they are out of contention but will love to play party spoilers.

...MATCH DAY...

We are into the final week of group-stage action in the 2023 Indian T20 League and in match number 64, it will be Punjab taking on Delhi at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Dharamsala has every now and then been an adopted home ground for Punjab and has brought them success as well and, given they play their final two games at this very venue, they will be hoping to win both of those games. Coming to the game, these two sides met just a few days back in Delhi where Punjab notched up a comfortable victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. Delhi though are out of the playoffs race but will be hoping to avenge that loss and deal a huge and probably fatal blow to Punjab's chances as well. On a challenging pitch in Delhi, Prabhsimran Singh stood head and shoulders above the rest as he scored a phenomenal century and even though David Warner scored a quick fifty for Delhi, it was Prabhsimran's effort that made the biggest difference. Both sides bowled reasonably well but the spin duo of Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar outperformed the experienced duo of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav with pacers from both sides remaining consistent. The pitch at Dharamsala and the place's high altitude will certainly favour the batters and Punjab have more batters in some sort of form than Delhi, who, truth be told will be very disappointed given the big names in their lineup. Skipper Warner and all-rounder Axar Patel have been the only two consistent performers for them all season and without the pressure of a playoff place at stake, they might just show their full potential in the next couple of games. For Punjab, skipper Shikhar Dhawan's lean form with the bat in the last few games is a slight worry and they will hope he gets back to his best as they need to win both of their remaining games to give themselves the best chance of making it throughout to the next stage of the competition. A closely-fought battle is to be expected with Punjab having a slight edge. Will they crumble under pressure? Or will they rise up to the occasion? We shall find out.
