Right then, that is it from this high-scoring affair and Mumbai continue to climb up the table. The action in the Indian T20 League continues on Thursday, 4th May, as Hyderabad take on Kolkata at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The first ball will be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know, you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Ishan Kishan is the Player of the Match for scoring 75 runs in 41 balls. He says that the wicket was good to bat on and while chasing this total he wanted to keep the momentum going so when the ball was there to hit, he wanted to make the most of it. Informs that the bowlers were bowling well and it was swinging but the keeper was not at the stumps so he thought of coming down the wicket and hitting straight. Mentions that he didn’t want to take the game late and play his shots early as it does not put pressure on the new batters. Claims that fitness is very important and the senior players have set a good example so he is working towards it but mentions that a lot depends on what he eats so credits his mom for that.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai, says that when the T20 cricket started 140-150-160 was a winning score and now it has gone much higher. Informs that this season the average score has been around 180 so they are sensing that if a team reaches 200 they can still chase that. Mentions that Suryakumar Yadav is doing what he has done for a couple of years and it is his strength playing behind the wickets. Adds that Ishan Kishan and SKY played crucial innings for them to help them register this win. Claims that before the start of the season, they spoke about how they wanted to play cricket and they decided that they want to be fearless. Goes on to say that they spoke about going out and expressing themselves which might not come off but this is the template they want to follow. About Ishan Kishan, he says that he is a little man but has a lot of power. Explains that he has been working hard off the field and it is showing on the ground now. Ends by talking about their bowling and admits that it is something they need to look at as they need more options in the middle overs and for 3 or 4 games they have conceded more than 200 so need to work on it.

Time for the presentations...

Suryakumar Yadav will share a few words as well. He says that he is really happy with the win but he felt that he should have finished the game but he got out like he did in the last game. Mentions that they knew that they needed to bat with intent and he just wanted to support Ishan Kishan who was batting well. Tells that he always prepares for the situation where one needs to score 14 or 13 runs in the over and what shots he can play. Adds that he does not think about targeting any bowler but adds that his job in this game was to support Ishan Kishan. Mentions that he does not have the power game and he tries to time the ball and find gaps so he is happy with the way he played. Ends by saying that he is really happy that the partnership with Kishan helped towards the winning cause.

Shikhar Dhawan the captain of Punjab says that they started off quite well and they thought it is a very good total but they could not defend it. Mentions that Rishi Dhawan bowled well but they gave away way too many runs from the other end. Added that they could not bowl tight lines and Ishan Kishan along with Suryakumar Yadav took the game away from them. Tells that it was a wicket where the change of pace was working and Nathan Ellis bowled well but other bowlers could not do the same. He informs that he did not use Harpreet Brar later because there was dew and he had to back his main bowlers but they could not deliver in this game.

Time for some interviews...

Punjab did not get off to the ideal start with the bat as they lost Prabhsimran Singh early but Matthew Short joined Shikhar Dhawan and began rebuilding the inning. Both batters got off to decent starts but could not make the most of it. Liam Livingstone got his first half-century of this campaign scoring 82 runs in 42 balls with Jitesh Sharma being stranded one short of his fifty off just 27 deliveries. Piyush Chawla was the pick of the bowlers claiming two wickets for 29 runs and Arshad Khan chipped in with a wicket but the rest of the bowlers went for plenty as they conceded well over 200 runs. Their batters came to their rescue and were able to exact revenge for the loss they suffered in the home fixture against this opposition.

Rohit Sharma had another outing to forget as he got out on a duck and Mumbai were off to a poor start. Cameron Green kept the tempo going as he looked to keep going but it was Ishan Kishan who looked to be hitting prime form. He scored a remarkable half-century accumulating 75 runs off 41 balls but will be disappointed that he was unable to get his team over the line. Suryakumar Yadav looked to be at his very best as he pounded the bowlers all around the ground getting to his fifty in just 23 deliveries but was dismissed on 66 as well. Tim David and Tilak Varma finished the job off with ease as they did not leave things to be done late giving Mumbai back-to-back wins. They will want to carry this momentum towards the business end of the competition as they hunt for their sixth title.

Mumbai absolutely nailed this chase! Their skipper mentioned at the toss that they play well with a target in sight and have the batting order to chase down anything! He has been proven right by his players as they have bossed this game chasing a mammoth target of 215 and winning by 6 wickets with 7 balls to spare. Punjab started strong with Rishi Dhawan conceding just 3 runs in his first two overs and dismissing the Mumbai captain cheaply. Nathan Ellis claimed two crucial wickets and Arshdeep Singh chipped in with one but they never looked like they were in a position to defend the massive score they put on the board. Mumbai have leapfrogged their opponents on the point table as they both sit on 10 points with the visitors having a better net run rate.

Commentary

Welcome back to the run-chase! Punjab players are in the middle now. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma are the openers for Mumbai. Rishi Dhawan to start the proceedings with the ball and Nathan Ellis also comes in as an Impact Player for Prabhsimran Singh. Let's go...

... THE RUN CHASE …

Right then, Mumbai have another uphill task in front of them. They chased down a score of over 200 in the last game but this is not Wankhede and it is not that easy to chase here. They still need to back themselves though and let's see how they go about their business against the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Nathan Ellis who are brilliant in the death. Stay tuned for the run-chase!

Liam Livingstone is down for a quick chat. He says that it felt like a good pitch. Claims that when he went out to bat he had a word with Shorty and they decided not to lose wickets in a clump. Mentions that it is a  good score but not unchasaable and they have to bowl well. Adds that he is glad to get a few off the middle of the bat. Informs that he had lunch with Jofra and he told him that he was coming for him so he was ready. Ends by saying that whoever comes up against him, he has to pick his battles and he feels he picked the right bowlers to go after.

Mumbai, well, they were again very poor in the death overs. They got an early wicket of Prabhsimran Singh in the Powerplay and then their two spinners, Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya bowled well in the middle overs. Chawla got two wickets as well but once he was done with his spell, the duo of Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingstone just exploded. Jofra Archer, Mumbai's premier bowler was hammered all over the park as he ended with 56 runs in his four overs. Akash Madhwal though showed signs of being a good death bowler but overall, it has been another disappointing performance from Mumbai bowlers.

The home team, Punjab lost Prabhsimran Singh early but Dhawan batted with intent although Matthew Short failed to get going at the other end. Dhawan was outfoxed by Chawla though and Short also could not last longer. However, that turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Punjab as Jitesh Sharma walked out with his usual swagger. He had Liam Livingstone alongside him and both smashed Mumbai bowlers all over the park with Jofra Archer too not spared. Both of them stayed unbeaten and stitched together a stand of 119 off 53 balls as Livingstone scored 82 off 42 balls and Jitesh Sharma ended with 49 off 27 balls to take Punjab to a mammoth total here.

Punjab go into the break with a big smile on their face. Their powerful batting line-up has once again shown its supremacy against a relatively inexperienced Mumbai bowling attack. Absolute carnage in the death overs again and they have smashed 69 runs in the last five overs. They have reached a very good score now and Mumbai would need to bat well to chase down another 200-plus total.

A good last over from Akash Madhwal! He nails the yorker outside the off stump. Liam Livingstone manages to dig this out towards long on and they pick up yet another brace. Just 9 runs from the last over and Mumbai will take that gladly. Punjab finish with 214-3 at the end of 20 overs!

19.52

19.31

The replays show the trajectory of the ball is under the waist and Punjab have now lost both their reviews.

19.11

Akash Madhwal bowls this on a yorker length and outside the off stump. Jitesh Sharma gets an inside edge onto his pads and the ball rolls into the off side. They cross for a single.

The ball races to the fence and it will be five extra runs. Mumbai have reviewed this call but replays show the ball is clearly over the batter's head. The onfield decision stays and Mumbai lose a review.

18.51

Bowls this quick and into the batter on a shortish length. Jitesh Sharma mistimes his shot towards long on for a single.

18.41

Goes really full this time and onto the pads. Liam Livingstone looks to hit across the line and gets it off the inside half of his bat towards square leg for a single. A sigh of disappointment from the crowd to see Liam Livingstone go off strike.

18.36

Six! WOW! What wonderful hitting by this power hitter! This is back of a length and outside the off pole. Liam Livingstone pulls this cleanly over deep mid-wicket for an even bigger six.

18.26

SIX! Make that two maximums in a row! Jofra Archer goes fuller this time and in line with the stumps. Liam Livingstone clears his front foot out of the way and lofts this straight down the ground for six more runs.

18.16

SIX! Liam Livingstone is making his mark on the Indian T20 League this edition! Jofra Archer bowls this back of a length and outside the off stump. Liam Livingstone opens his stance and slaps this over deep mid-wicket for six runs.

17.52

A full toss onto the pads but Jitesh Sharma misses out. He whips this straight to the deep square leg fielder and a fumble allows them to pick up two runs.

17.44

17.31

A low full toss fired in at the stumps. Liam Livingstone mishits this towards deep cover and picks up a single.

17.24

FOUR! That is FIFTY for Liam Livingstone and the first half-century for him this season! Akash Madhwal bowls this full and wider outside off. Liam Livingstone reaches for it and goes over the infield towards deep cover for four runs.

Short this time and outside the off pole. Jitesh Sharma swings his blade hard and this takes the leading edge high towards deep backward point. It lands in no man's land and the batters tale a couple of runs.

16.40

Bowls this full and follows the batter as he goes across towards the off side. Jitesh Sharma has to change his shot and looks to push at the ball but gets beaten on the outside edge.

16.34

FOUR! Arshad Khan misses his length and gets punished! He bowls a low full toss at the stumps. Jitesh Sharma smashes this down the ground for four more runs to his kitty.

They bat deep and would be looking to target one of the next three overs, let's see how things unfold.

We are all set for the game to begin as the umpires make their way out to the middle. The Mumbai players have dispersed and taken their respective fielding positions. Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh stride out to the center and will be eager for a good start on this batting-friendly wicket. Cameron Green has the new ball in his hand and will begin proceedings. Let's play...

Shikhar Dhawan, the skipper of Punjab says that they would have bowled first as well. Adds that the wicket looks good and it will not change much but he feels that it is good to bat first as well and put a big score on the board. Mentions that they try to keep calm and mentally they try to be relaxed. Informs that there are two changes with Matthew Short coming in for Taide and Ellis coming in for Rabada.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of Mumbai says that he asked Shikhar what to do he said bowl first so they will bowl first. Claims that it is a good pitch and they have chased down targets well. Adds that Mohali is a high-scoring ground so on such pitches they always want to have a score in front of them and back the batting order to chase down the target. Mentions that it is absolutely important to keep the balance and feet on the ground especially in a tournament like this so that they can achieve their targets. Reckons that it is about trying to be fresh when they go into games and execute their plans. Informs that there is one change as Riley Merdeith misses out and Askash Mashwal comes in his place

Impact Players for Mumbai - Suryakumar Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, Dewald Brevis, Vishnu Vinod, Ramandeep Singh.

Mumbai (Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan (WK), Cameron Green, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Piyush Chawla, Jofra Archer, Kumar Kartikeya, Akash Madhwal, Arshad Khan.

Impact Players for Punjab - Nathan Ellis, Sikandar Raza, Atharva Taide, Mohit Rathee, Shivam Singh.

Punjab (Playing XI) - Shikhar Dhawan (C), Prabhsimran Singh, Matthew Short, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Sam Curran, Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Rishi Dhawan, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh.

TOSS - The coin goes up in the air and lands in favour of Mumbai. They have elected to BOWL first.

Mumbai, on the other hand, need to show better application with their death bowling skills. They have a batting line-up full of superstars and with Suryakumar Yadav back in form too along with Tim David and Green, batting should not be a worry. However, their bowlers have been pretty expensive and they need Jofra Archer to be at his best if they want to control Punjab’s power-hitters on a flat deck. Lot of interesting match-ups to look forward to and let's hope for a cracking encounter. Stay tuned for the toss and further updates.

Punjab have played an enterprising brand of cricket this season. The injuries to their big players have not dented their spirit and now with Livingstone and Dhawan back in their full fitness, they look like a dangerous unit. Their bowling is world-class with the likes of Rabada, Arshdeep Singh and Sam Curran in the seam department while their batting is full of power-hitters and they would be hoping to come out all guns blazing against an inexperienced Mumbai bowling attack.

Hello and a warm welcome to the 46th game of the Indian T20 League as Punjab take on Mumbai in a blockbuster encounter at Mohali. Punjab have won five out of their 9 games so far and a win in this game can go a long way in getting them out of the middle muddle on the points table. For Mumbai, a win in this game is crucial as they have won four and lost four so far and with plenty of teams hovering around them, the five-time champions would have to bring consistency to their game.

... MATCH DAY …

The action in the Indian T20 League now moves to the PCA Stadium in Mohali, where Punjab will host Mumbai in a crucial encounter for the race to the playoffs. Both teams are in the middle of the table and a win for the home team will strengthen their chances of making it to the knockouts while a win for the away side will continue to put pressure on the teams in and around them. Punjab haven't been able to win two games in a row in their last five matches and their home form isn't great either. However, the good thing for them is that Shikhar Dhawan is now fully fit and his leadership skills will be important for them along with giving them a good start at the top. The positives in their batting department have been the talented young Indian batters like Prabhsimran Singh, Atharva Taide, and Harpreet Singh showing their potential. Their middle order is also stacked with power hitters like Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and Jitesh Sharma who is turning out to be a six-hitting machine for them. Batting has been their strength and will be throughout the tournament but the worry for them is the inconsistency in bowling. Arshdeep Singh has done well in some games, Kagiso Rabada in others, and Rahul Chahar has also failed to pick up wickets in the middle overs but he has been economical. Sikandar Raza has contributed in both departments and after getting three runs on the final ball against Chennai to win the game, his and the team's confidence will be high, and they will look to get a win in front of their fans. Mumbai, on the other hand, have also suffered from inconsistency but they are coming into this game on the back of an amazing chase to win the 1000th game in the Indian T20 League. They will need more from their skipper, Rohit Sharma at the top while Ishan Kishan will also want to get out of his shell. However, the form of Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Tim David has been crucial for them. SKY looks like he has got his old form back and David is playing the role of the finisher perfectly while Green is contributing with both bat and ball. Their bowling attack is a bit bleak but Jofra Archer bowled a pacy spell in the last game and looks like he is regaining his sharpness which is bad news for the other teams. Piyush Chawla has been their most successful bowler but other than that it hasn't been that good and they will need more from the others. They have also signed up Chris Jordan who could help them solve their death bowling woes and they will hope that they get those crucial two points here. The last time these two sides met it was a run-fest and Mumbai almost chased down a huge total but fell short at the end which makes this game even more interesting now. Will Mumbai avenge their previous loss? Or will Punjab do the double? We will find out soon.
