Right then! Every team has now played one match and Rajasthan have become the first team this year to win the match batting first. They shoot up to the top given their healthy net run rate. The action continues in the Indian T20 League on Wednesday, the 30th of March as the two familiar foes, Bangalore and Kolkata square off against each other. That match begins at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but the build-up will begin much earlier as usual. Till then, goodbye and take care!

Sanju Samson, the Rajasthan captain is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his fiery half-century earlier in the evening. He says that it was a very different wicket than they thought and if one bowled the Test match lengths, the pacers got a lot of purchase. Adds that they are not looking at long-term goals at the moment and just want to focus on the next match. Adds that in the preparation leading up to the tournament, he just looked to learn about more game awareness and got to know more about what to do in certain situations. Also adds that when there are minds like Sangakara in the camp, it helps a lot. He ends by saying that it's a tough tournament and the key is to stay with the core of players throughout and they will just like to keep things simple.

The Presentation ceremony...

Prasidh Krishna is down for a chat. He says he enjoyed the surface. Says he aimed to hit the hard length and is glad it worked out for him. Mentions, they had already planned about it and hence also had two slips in place. Says, they couldn’t have asked for a better start. Adds, the pressure that Boult put from the other end really helped him to take the wickets.

Kane Williamson, the Hyderabad skipper is up for a quick chat. He thinks they started beautifully with the ball. Adds in the end things did not go their way. Mentions there are a few things they need to look into and would like to improve on their weak spots. Adds, to take a wicket off a no ball is never nice. Says there are a number of things they cannot control. Hopes Umran Malik just keeps moving up the ladder with each game. Says, they will sit together as a side, also as they have a little break before their next game. As a young side, they will focus on learning from each game. Ends by saying Rajasthan were truly the better side tonight.

When you have a score in excess of 200 in a T20 match, you're already halfway there. The only thing that can make it better is an early wicket, Rajasthan did get that, well they got 3 early wickets and the match was won then and there. Prasidh Krishna was simply outstanding at the start as he got two wickets and Trent Boult supported him really well. In the middle overs, Yuzvendra Chahal cleaned up 3 more of the recognized batters and Ravichandran Ashwin too was economical. The only bowler who had an off day was Nathan Coulter-Nile and he was really hammered to all parts of the ground and his night got worse when he had to limp off in the final over, hope he is back in no time. Rajasthan will be mightily pleased with that effort though.

Hyderabad have started from where they left off in the last season and generally, that is a good sign but when you've had a miserable campaign last time, it isn't the start you're looking for. Right from the first over, Kane Williamson looked under pressure and it was telling as he fell in the second over. Big hitters like Rahul Tripathi and Nicholas Pooran followed suit as both got out for a duck and Hyderabad found themselves pushed firmly up against a wall. Only Aiden Markram and Romario Shepherd put up a stand and Washington Sundar had one big over in which he took NCN to the cleaners. Markram did get to a deserving fifty and in the end, the wicket looked like it was a batting paradise. Apart from this, it was an abysmal batting display at the top from Hyderabad and they have a lot to ponder upon.

What an emphatic way to get the campaign underway from Rajasthan! They have demolished Hyderabad tonight and maybe have sent a message to all the other teams that they have the muscle with the bat as well as with the ball and they can defeat any team on a given day. Hyderabad on the other hand have gone down fighting, but the fight came a bit too late from their end.

Commentary

We are back. The Rajasthan players stride out to the middle. Followed by Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma who walk to open for Hyderabad. Trent Boult to start with the new ball.

... The Run Chase ...

Right then. Hyderabad batters have their task cut out. There are some new names in the side with some young guns who shined at the fag end during the last outing. Nonetheless they need to bat out of their skins against a well balanced bowling line-up of Rajasthan. An enticing chase coming your way. Do not go anywhere.

Devdutt Padikkal says that it was a first-time experience in the Indian T20 League to bat at number 4 but it was a pleasant one and he enjoyed it. Adds that it's been amazing with the new franchise and he gets treated like family. Mentions that there is something for the bowlers on this pitch and they batted exceptionally well tonight. Ends by saying that their bowlers can defend the total and just have to bowl in the right areas.

We knew this was going to be a batters paradise but the way Bhuvneshwar Kumar started with the new ball, it could’ve gone either way. Although, it did not go in the favour of the bowlers, as they were taken to the cleaners. Umran Malik though made a sharp comeback after leaking 21 runs if his first over and ended his night with two wickets. He managed to break the highest ever third-wicket stand scored by Rajasthan against Hyderabad by getting the better of Devdutt Padikkal. It was not a pleasant day with the ball for T Natarajan early on, but he did took two scalps in the final over.

WOW! This Rajasthan batting performance has left me speechless! Well, they surely lived up to the expectations. The top-order of this side is capable of taking the game away from the opposition and that was on display this evening. It was not an ideal start for Rajasthan with a drama-filled first over and a cautious start by Buttler did not make it any easy for him. Jos Buttler though made the most of reprieve eventually. The opening stand set up a solid platform. Even though both perished in quick succession. Later, Samson and Padikkal notched up stand worth 73 runs off just 41 deliveries and they kept the run rate hovering around 10 before slipping out. In the end, Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag stepped on the gas from the word go and managed to take the score above the 200-run mark.

Rajasthan did manage to turn up the heat in Pune. The tone has been set for this venue and surely, the rest of the teams would be taking some notes from this innings. Things could’ve been different for Hyderabad if Kumar hadn’t stepped over the line when he got the better of Buttler on a duck.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A wicket to end the innings! Riyan Parag doesn't review and this means that there is bat involved but what a brilliant catch from Nicholas Pooran! T Natarajan looks for the toe-crushing yorker but spills it down the leg side. Parag looks to flick and gets a slight tickle on it. Pooran dives full stretch to his left and takes an amazing low catch. Natrajan gets his second wicket of the over and Rajasthan finish with a 210/6!

19.51

This is full and on off, pushed down to long off for a single.

19.41

Around leg again, Parag flicks it towards deep mid-wicket and settles for a single.

19.31lb

Leg bye! Around leg stump, Coulter-Nile fails to get it away. The ball hits the pads and goes nowhere but they are able to scamper through for a leg bye.

19.2W

OUT! Cleaned up! T Natarajan has the last laugh but Shimron Hetmyer has done his job. Cross seam from Natarajan this time, very full and angled into middle and leg. Hetmyer makes room and looks to smoke it over mid-wicket but the ball sneaks under his willow. The ball then castles into middle and leg and Natarajan is elated. Perfect yorker from him this time! Nathan Coulter-Nile is the new batter in.

19.14

FOUR! Skillful from Shimron Hetmyer and he is toying with the bowlers now. Full and straight, Hetmyer shuffles and picks it right off the base of middle stump and scoops it over short fine leg for a boundary.

18.36

SIX! The commentators curse at work again. The on-air commentators just discuss that Bhuvi is the only one who hasn't been hit for a maximum tonight and well, now he has. Banged in short, outside off. Shimron Hetmyer hangs deep and launches it over the long off fence. Top shot this!

18.21

Good stop from Aiden Markram and it will only be a single. Length this time, a bit slower and wide of off. Parag gets it up and over the extra cover fielder. Markram runs around from long off and saves three runs.

18.11lb

Leg bye! Kumar gets it into the blockhole around leg stump. Hetmyer looks to flick it away but misses. The ball goes off the pads and towards short fine leg. They scamper through for a leg bye.

16.50

Bhuvneshwar Kumar looked excited but Hyderabad lose two reviews in three deliveries! Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowls a length ball, on off and this one nips back in off the surface. Riyan Parag looks to block but misses and the ball goes through the gap between bat and pad. There is a noise once again and the review is taken for a caught behind decision. UltraEdge shows that the ball missed the bat and flicked the thigh pad. The lbw is also checked but Ball Tracker shows that the ball is going over middle stump.

16.41

Short of a length, on the body. Hetmyer works it leg side for a single.

16.41wd

A surprise short ball, on leg stump. Hetmyer looks to hook but misses. It's been called a wide but Kane Williamson has gone upstairs for a caught behind appeal. Shimron Hetmyer seems to have missed it on first glance but the third umpire checks the replay. No need for UltraEdge as the ball is well over the dangled willow of Hetmyer. After all that, it is only a WIDE!

Touch short, on off. Washington Sundar pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a brace. It could've been curtains for Aiden Markram, if Yuzvendra Chahal would've knocked the stumps off at the non-striker's end.

Strategic Time-Out! Rajasthan have the game in bag and it has been a completely dominant bowling performance from them. After the brilliant start by their pacers, Ravichandran Ashwin has held up one end well and this has allowed Yuzvendra Chahal to be attacking with the ball and he has picked up 3 wickets. The only decent partnership for Hyderabad, between Romario Shepherd and Aiden Markram has now been broken and it is now only a question of by how many runs they lose tonight. Strategic Time-Out! Well, with 182 required to win off just 70 balls and 4 wickets back in the hut, Hyderabad will need a miracle of gigantic proportions to win the match. The pitch always had something in it for the pacers and Trent Boult and especially Prasidh Krishna have been able to take full advantage of it.

15.10

Strategic Time-Out! Umran Malik has just got rid of Devdutt Padikkal off his final ball of the spell but he has done enough damage. With the score close to 150 and 5 overs still remaining, a well-set Sanju Samson will be looking to take his side past the 200-run mark. Romario Shepherd and Umran Malik have bowled out and Kane Williamson will now have to rely on Bhuvneshwar Kumar and his two remaining overs to pull things back a bit. It's going to be tough but wickets are the key now. Also, Shimron Hetmyer comes in to bat.

Strategic Time-Out! This partnership had started to hurt Hyderabad but Romario Shepherd comes to the rescue of his side and breaks the opening stand. Hyderabad bowlers have bowled really well barring the excessive no balls. They need to work on it and keep things tight going forward. Certainly Kane Williamson would let his bowlers know about the same. Rajasthan, on the flip side, have a good platform set thanks to their openers. They will hope their exciting batting line-up can come out and work their magic. Sanju Samson comes in at number 3 for Rajasthan.

PITCH REPORT - Deepdas Gupta is pitchside. DDS reckons that there is a lot of green on the pitch and it is quite firm as well. He adds that the square boundaries are not that long but it's a 75 m hit down the ground. There will be help for the seamers early on but later on the wind and the dew might play an important role.

Rajashthan skipper Sanju Samson says that it's a special day for them as a total of 7 players make their debut. Adds that their four overseas players are Jos Buttler, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Trent Boult and Shimron Hetmyer. Adds that they have played games here in the past and even though it has a green tinge, it will have something in it for everyone.

Kane Williamson captain of Hyderabad says that they will have a bowl first. He adds that the pitch looks good and there might be dew later on. Mentions that most of the guys have had plenty of time together to get ready for this clash and they are pumped.

Rajasthan (Playing XI) - Jos Buttler (WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (C), Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna.

Hyderabad (Playing XI) - Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Kane Williamson (C), Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Abdul Samad, Romario Shepherd, Washington Sundar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan.

TOSS - The coin goes up and lands in favour of Kane Williamson. Hyderabad have opted to BOWL first.

Rajashthan have become a team that shows a lot of promise but fails to deliver when it matters the most. This time they have brought in experienced Indian spinners such as Ashwin and Chahal to give them stability. If their explosive top order performs consistently, Rajasthan can just turn out to be the dark horses in the competition and give everyone a run for their money. So, which side will be able to start the season in winning fashion? We'll find out soon. Toss and team news in a bit.

Hyderabad are generally a team known for their gritty character and being able to do more with less but last season was a forgetful one for them and losing the likes of Bairstow, Warner and especially Rashid Khan will certainly hurt them. But maybe the replacements brought in will step up and they always boast a strong young Indian line-up which will be the theme this season as well.

Hello and a warm welcome to Match number 5 of the Indian T20 League and it's the first match this season to be held at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The two remaining teams yet to play their first match will take on eachother as Hyderabad face Rajasthan. Two teams who will be looking to get out of the blocks quickly and get moving on the points table at the earliest as both failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last outing.

... MATCH DAY ...
