Right then. We have been treated to a roller-coaster of a game between these two giants and it is the hosts who take the 1-0 lead in the series. But not a lot of time to celebrate as the second game is less than 24 hours away and Australia will have a chance to level the series soon enough. The second T20I will be played on Sunday, 11th July 2021 at 1930 local (2330 GMT). Do join us for that. Until then, cheers and take care!

The skipper of West Indies, Nicholas Pooran says he is delighted to start his captaincy with a victory. He only expected the players to show energy, which they did. Also adds, he can't praise his bowlers enough, they were just brilliant tonight. Ends by saying his side is over the last series, as they look to change their path now.

Aaron Finch, the Australian skipper says that the bowlers did a fantastic job to restrict them to a lower score. Also says he is really disappointed as they were not able to chase the game down. Says Marsh and Wade put them in control of the game, but they were unable to end it with a victory. Ends by saying they will look to come back stronger in the next game.

OBED McCOY IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says that it feels great and he has been working hard and looks at his execution very closely. Feels that the surface had some nice bounce and carry and he noticed that the spinners were getting some turn and so his slower balls would get something off the surface. Feels that they had the bowling to defend this and they defended this well.

Take a bow, West Indies! This has been a supreme bowling performance to defend such a total. It looked like they would not be able to put in a strong display, but they have proved that they have what it takes to bowl well in tough situations. Obed McCoy was the hero and the star as he ended up taking 4 to his name and completely rattled the visitors. Even Hayden Walsh took timely wickets and bowled smartly, to finish with 3 to his name. Fabian Allen got two as well, but overall, all of their bowlers were up to the task.

The Aussies started off poorly, as they lost Finch very early on. Wade then decided to charge and make full use of the Powerplay as he kept the runs coming but he too, could not last too long. After Philippe departed, the duo of Marsh and Henriques decided to swing and scored a few boundaries quickly, putting the pressure back on the hosts. But once Moises fell, the train slightly derailed. Marsh got to his fifty, but he could not last longer and take his side home and from a position of strength at 89/3, they slumped and bowed out for 127.

Wow, wow, wow! What a start we have to this series! It looked like Australia would start their Caribbean tour with a win to their name, but the hosts have put in a supreme bowling display to defend a below-par total, to take a 1-0 lead in this 5-game T20I series.

OUT! CAUGHT! Obed McCoy, TAKE A BOW! What a spell he has had with the ball today. He gets his fourth and the final wicket of the game. Serves it a touch short, outside off. Josh Hazlewood looks to poke at it. The ball though takes the outside edge and flies to the left of Nicholas Pooran, who collects the ball with ease and starts the celebrations for the West Indies side. He has been the game-changer for the Men in Maroon. Serves a slower ball again. On a length, on off. Starc looks to get under it and decides to go big. The ball though does not get the distance that was needed on it, as it goes towards deep mid-wicket. Fabian Allen coves a lot of ground to his left, as he is coming in from the mid-wicket region. He takes a superb running catch. The West Indies only need one more wicket to end things for the Aussies!

Josh Hazlewood is the last man in.

Commentary

Right. Back for the run chase. Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade are the openers for the visitors. Fidel Edwards to begin with the ball. Here we go...

Right then. 146 needed for the Aussies, to begin the tour with a victory. With their batting line-up, you would expect them to chase it down, but the hosts have shown that they could bowl well and make life difficult for the visitors. Stay tuned for what could be a spicy run chase.

Shimron Hetmyer is in for a chat! He says it is just how they formalize and how quickly they settle in. Adds that it is a little up and down journey for them but this will only help them come out stronger. Adds that with Pooran, the role was only to put the balls away, and with Russell, he says it was easy for him as he just had to rotate the strike and Russell did what he does best.

What can we say about the Australians? On their best day, they just looked untouchable. Throughout the game, they were brilliant in the field. No doubt about that, except a few moments. Then comes the bowlers, Marsh picked up a couple of wickets. Agar had a good start with the ball, but later was unable to get the better of Russell as he smashed him all around the park. Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers, as he snared three wickets and only for 12 runs. The rest of the bowler probed good lines and lengths but were not able to get in the wicket column.

West Indies got off to a really slow start according to their standards. They lost an early wicket in the form of Lewis in the second over. Then, it was the Universe Boss who was sent back into the shed in no time, as he scored a single boundary before his departure. Simmons and Hetmyer looked settled in the middle, but the former was rattled by Marsh. West Indies were struggling to build a partnership. It was Hetmyer and Pooran's partnership that was going good for the hosts, but a mix-up in the middle, cost them their skipper. It was Russell then who took the charge, scored a fifty, and well did enough to make his side reach a defendable total. Allen and Bravo added a couple of runs on the scoreboard as they ended on 145.

SIX! Dwayne Bravo finishes the over with a bang! A back of a length ball, around off and middle, Dwayne Bravo makes room and hooks this one all the way over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. WEST INDIES FINISH ON 145/6!

19.51

Full ball around off, drilled to long off for one.

19.41

On the pads, tickled to the leg side for a quick single.

19.30

A fuller ball, on middle and leg, Bravo makes room and swings but does not connect with anything.

Who will come out next? It is Dwayne Bravo!

19.2W

OUT! DRAGGED ON! Hazlewood gets another wicket and he removes the dangerous Russell. This could prove handy as Russell could have smashed another 15-20 runs in the last couple of balls. A fuller ball, around off, Andre Russell looks to squirt this one out, but the ball takes the inside edge and goes onto clip the stumps behind. A good knock from Russell, just what the Men in Maroon needed!

19.11

A yorker on middle, dug out to the man at long off for one.

Josh Hazlewood, after a brilliant Powerplay spell, comes into the attack to bowl the final over.

SIX! FIFTY FOR RUSSELL! Just what the hosts needed and the big man delivers. Gets it in just 26 balls and now will be looking to end the innings on a high. Around off, on a length, smoked away over the deep mid-wicket fence. His maiden T20I century too!

18.30

A short ball, around middle, AR looks to hook it away but misses.

18.22

Almost a great catch! A length ball, around off, Andre Russell flicks this one hard towards the deep mid-wicket region. It does not looks like there is enough gas on this to go all the way. Dan Christian runs to his right, from long on, and Ashton Agar runs to his left, from deep mid-wicket. Dan Christian gets to the ball, falls down and tries to relay it to Agar, but it is behind him and the ball is on the ground. A couple.

FOUR! The long off and long on fielders have a miscommunication and that results in a boundary. On a fuller length, around off, Russell drills this one down the ground, in between both the fielders there. They both come together, but none commits to the dive, which allows the ball to go past the ropes.

17.40

OUT! CAUGHT! Wade was looking very good but he gifts his wicket away here. The ball was a smart one, keeping in mind that the only fielder in the deep, in the off side, was Hetmyer at deep point. Short and wide outside off, enticing Matthew Wade to go for the big shot. He obliges and punches this one aerially towards deep point and Shimron Hetmyer has an easy take in the deep. 100 needed in 96 balls.

Commentary

OUT! RUN OUT! Oh dear, the miscommunication amongst the batsmen cost West Indies another wicket. It is the skipper they lose this time. A full length ball, on the pads. Hetmyer looks to flick it but misses. The ball clips the pads and rolls to the leg side. There is a huge appeal for LBW but the umpire is unmoved. But wait, Pooran wanted a single but was sent back by Shimron Hetmyer. The fielder Josh Philippe collects the ball and has a shy at the non-striker's end, diving forward, and hits the bullseye as well. The Australian side decides to take it upstairs for the run out. The replays roll in and confirm Pooran was outside the crease when the ball hit the stumps. The decision is OUT. But as the skipper reaches the dugout, he is stopped by an umpire on the sidelines. Because the third umpire will review the LBW first on Shimron Hetmyer as Australia took the appeal. So, the Ultra Edge shows no bat. The Ball Tracker shows the impact is outside. So, Hetmyer is safe, but Pooran has to head back.

11.44

Looks like Australia have also taken a review for LBW and they will also check if Shimron Hetmyer could be LBW. No bat, but impact was outside. So, in a nutshell, Shimron Hetmyer is not out and Nicholas Pooran is run out!

Mitchell Starc to start with the ball. But before getting underway, the players of both the teams on their knees, to show their support for the 'Black Lives Matter' movement. Here we go...

Both the teams are lined up as the the Prime Minister of St Lucia, Allen Chastanet, greets everyone. No handshakes due to the pandemic, just elbow bumps. Time for the National Anthems. First, the anthem of West Indies, followed by that of Australia.

PITCH REPORT - Sir Curtly Ambrose is down for the pitch report.  He explains the pitch to us. He says that there are a lot of cracks on the pitch and also a slight green patch. Mentions that the pitch will stay the same for the entire match.

Nicholas Pooran, the West Indies skipper, says that Pollard is not there as he has a niggle and Fabian Allen comes back. Says that they know what they have to work on and they will find a way to win. Tells that practice was really good and they will look to do the right things.

The Australian skipper, Aaron Finch says it looks like a pretty good wicket. Adds that they played two intrasquad games and the breeze helps. Also says he had a slow start in the last series, hopes they get a positive start in the series. Ends by saying he expects a lot from the young lads who came into the side.

West Indies (PLAYING XI) -  Lendl Simmons, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (C/WK), Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Fabian Allen, Hayden Walsh, Obed McCoy, Fidel Edwards.

Australia (PLAYING XI) -  Aaron Finch (C), Matthew Wade (WK), Mitchell Marsh, Josh Philippe, Moises Henriques, Ben McDermott, Dan Christian, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

TOSS - The umpire and the two skippers are in the middle. Nicholas Pooran flips the coin in the air and it lands in the favour of Australia. They opt to field first.

Woohoo! Cricket continues its carnival in the Caribbean. After the Proteas touched their shores, now, Australia make their way to battle the Men in Maroon, for 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs, starting with the former. The hosts were beaten comprehensively in their last assignment against South Africa and will be looking to make amends. The team from Down Under will want to test their bench and win this series, as they warm themselves up before the T20 World Cup. Can't wait to get underway, right? Well, so can't we. Toss and teams up in a bit.
