DAYLIGHT BETWEEN BAT AND BALL! Rizwan quickly apologizes with a smile. Shadab starts with a flatter leg spinner outside off, not turning much and going straight on, Malan hangs back to push inside the line but misses. Rizwan collects and appeals, the bowler joins him late but the umpire turns down the appeal. Pakistan take the referral but the replays show that the bat and ball are poles apart.

Time for a bit of spin. Shadab Khan is into the attack to bowl his leggies.

Short in length and outside off, extra bounce, Crawley goes on his toes and forces it past the left side of the sliding cover fielder. He runs the first run hard but that's all he will get.

Good length delivery again, outside off, Crawley steers it off the outer half to third man and collects a run. Easy going for England and Pakistan seems to have surrendered now.

Sliding down the leg side, Malan nudges it to fine leg for a single.

FOUR! Just a mere touch and it has gone to the boundary. Back of a length ball around off, this time Malan hangs back and hits it across the line with gentle hands. The ball finds the sweet spot of the bat and hurries past the square leg fielder for a boundary.

FOUR! Gorgeous shot and the 50-run stand is up! Fuller in length and on middle, Crawley closes the face of his bat at the right time and flicks it beautifully through mid-wicket.

IN THE AIR... SAFE! A slice of luck for Crawley. He tries to flick a length ball on the leg side but gets a big leading edge. It flies over the leaping cover fielder and they take three runs.

Bowling change. Haris Rauf is brought into the attack from this end, replacing Hasan Ali. Two slips in place.

Full again, on off, it's knocked down to mid on for a single.

FOUR! Fine shot! Afridi changes his angle and comes in from 'round the wicket, he angles in a fuller length ball on off, Crawley walks forward and across before flicking it beautifully through square leg for a boundary.

FOUR! Well played! Hasan decides to surprise the batsman with a short delivery It's around off, Malan although takes his eyes off the ball, he still manages to middle his pull shot and fetches a boundary at deep square leg.

Probably the slower one, cutting back into the batsman from a length around off, Malan plays it late and defends it with the full face of the bat.

Ali angles in a full ball on off, Malan is forward as he pushes it in the direction of the bowler.

FOUR! Malan is on a mission! He is playing some eye-catching shots. Silken touch. Absolute grace. Fuller in length and outside off, Dawid just opens the face of his blade as he presses forward and then he just caresses it through covers.

Zak Crawley stands tall in that region and catches the ball over his head, with a little jump. Pakistan are 6 down for 90 and they have now lost their best batter.

OUT! Sohaib Maqsood is run out! What a sorry end to this good-looking partnership. A very full ball on middle, Fakhar digs it out towards mid on and comes rushing forward a run. Sohaib Maqsood responds but then to his shock, Fakhar stops. He looks at the mid-wicket fielder charging at the ball and just stops. Maqsood has to turn and go back but before he could do that, James Vince collects the ball running across from mid-wicket, charges towards the non-striker's end and then scores a direct hit. Sohaib is not even in the picture. He is given out by the on-field umpire and returns with a dejected face. Pakistan have now lost half their side.

The batsman has just blocked that from his crease.

FOUR! The 50-run stand comes up with a beautiful shot! Fuller in length and on middle, Zaman plays a controlled flick shot and picks the gap at mid-wicket for a boundary. This pair has steadied things for Pakistan after a forgetful start.

DRINKS! It has been a fantastic start for this young and inexperienced England team. They have been all over Pakistan with the ball so far and will look to continue their impressive start. Fakhar Zaman was stranded as he saw partners come and go at the other end. Sohaib Maqsood though has done well so far as the pair has steadied the ship. The job though is nowhere close to done as they need to carry on.

A touch short and close to off, 79 mph, Fakhar defends it from the back foot to the leg side. 6 runs in the last three overs, England have put on a choke here.

An 83 mph delivery, full and on off, angling in, Zaman defends it late, back towards the bowler.

A mistimed shot! Short in length and on off, Zaman plays a reactive pull shot without any timing. It flies in the air but goes safely wide of mid on. They take two.

SIX! WOW! That is some shot! He is a reputed hitter in the Pakistan cricket circuit and now he is showing it at the international stage. Shortish ball outside off, Maqsood stays leg side of the ball and slams it over covers for a biggie. Not an easy shot to play but we have seen him do that in the Pakistan Super League on a consistent basis.

This time Carse goes full on the stumps. Maqsood defends it and shouts a loud no.

Spicy ball from Carse! Good length ball pitching on off and it comes back in with a sharp pace. It hurries Maqsood. He hops and looks to defend but misses and gets hit on the body.

Good running! Full ball on middle and leg, Fakhar taps it to mid on. The fielder there is at the edge of the circle. Fakhar sees an opportunity to take the single and takes it with ease.

Good length delivery on top of off. Fakhar blocks it.

FOUR! This is some response! Overpitched on middle, Maqsood shows his class as he gets behind it and drives it beautifully past the bowler for a boundary.

The batter comes forward and plays the off drive but it is a dot ball as the ball goes straight to mid off.

FOUR! Fakhar Zaman is liking this length and gentle pace of Overton. Fetches a short delivery from outside off and pummels his pull shot through mid-wicket for a cracking boundary. A man is dropped back now.

Craig goes fuller and on off, Fakhar pushes it off his front foot to mid off.

FOUR! Fast hands of Fakhar Zaman on display here. Short in length again from Overton, around off, Zaman swivels a bit on the back foot and pulls it thunderously to the deep mid-wicket fence.

Starts his spell with a short delivery outside off, Fakhar rocks back to cut it through the line but fails to middle his shot. It takes the bottom edge and rolls to cover-point.

Change in bowling. First one of the game and it sees Craig Overton come into the attack.

Fuller in length and outside off, Fakhar drives it with gentle hands towards extra cover. The fielder is at the edge of the circle and it's an easy single for Zaman.

Angling in from a length around off, Zaman turns it on the leg side, looks for a run but then returns as the mid on fielder quickly reaches the ball.

FOUR! Zaman is in good form and showing that there is no demon on this surface. Saqib goes from 'round the wicket and delivers it full around off, Fakhar drives it smartly through wide mid off.

Almost dragged on! Good length delivery around off. It comes back in. Fakhar looks to play but then decides to leave it. Too late as the ball hits the inside edge of the bat. Luckily for Zaman, it misses the stumps and goes to fine leg, allowing him to get off the firing line.

OUT! CAUGHT! Another one bites the dust and this time it is the man in form, Mohammad Rizwan. Once again it is an impeccable delivery and Gregory gets his first wicket in ODIs. Fullish ball on off, Rizwan looks to play it through mid on hoping the ball to nip back in. This one though holds up and keeps its line. It kisses the outside edge of Rizwan's willow and goes low to the keeper. John Simpson takes his first catch in ODI cricket. Pakistan are 3 down in the 4th over. Horror start for the visitors.

Full on middle and off, Fakhar clips it with the swing through wide mid on. He does not time it right off the meat. Hence the ball does not have the legs to reach the fence. Three taken.

EDGED AND FOUR! Another streaky boundary for Rizwan. Good length ball around off, Rizwan looks to play it to the off side with a horizontal bat. The ball shapes in and catches the inside edge. Luck is going Mohammad Rizwan's way as it goes past the stumps and fine down to the fine leg fence.

Fakhar Zaman is off the mark! Back of a length ball on middle and leg, Fakhar tucks it to the left of mid on and takes a single.

Smart cricket this. Follows the boundary with a single towards point.

FOUR! Excellent shot! This man is in great form and this shot is a testament to that. Slightly overpitched outside off, Rizwan is quick to pounce on that mistake. He gets on his front foot and crunches it through covers for a boundary.

OUT! CAUGHT! Superstar, skipper, and Pakistan's talisman, Babar Azam is out of here without even troubling the scorer. What a dream start it is for this young English side and Saqib Mahmood. Fantastic delivery from Saqib Mahmood. He bowls it in the channel of uncertainty around off. Babar has a poke at it but the ball shapes away and catches the outside edge. It falls on its way to second slip. Zak Crawley, on his ODI debut, shows his Test match catching skills. He bends and takes a very good low catch. A shocking start for Pakistan.

OUT! LBW! Saqib Mahmood, Stokes, and England start with a bang! Mahmood starts right on the money. He bowls a fullish ball pitching on leg and coming in a bit. Imam-ul-Haq looks to flick but gets beaten by the movement. It hits him right on the front pad. A huge appeal follows but the umpire is no keen. Stokes has a word with the bowler and the keeper and decides to take the review. Replay rolls in and Ultra Edge shows no bat. A few stumbling blocks before the start of the series but the ECB found a way and luckily the series will go as planned. Hello and welcome everyone to the first ODI of the 3-match series between England and Pakistan. It is not a full-strength England side but it is a great opportunity for the hosts to test their bench strength under a new leader in Ben Stokes. The hosts will still be looking to get another series win in their pocket and continue their impressive summer with the white ball. On the other hand, Pakistan will be eager to avenge their ODI series loss against England in 2019. Babar Azam and co. will look to put this inexperienced side to the sword and start their brief tour with a win. But one can never be sure which Pakistan turns up on the day as they are the most unpredictable side in world cricket. An exciting clash awaits us at the Sophia Garden, Cardiff. Can Stokes get off his ODI captaincy regime to a winnings start or will Pakistan spoil the party for Stokes and his young team? Stay tuned for toss and further updates.
