That is it from this game! Not the most powerful England side on paper but they proved otherwise on the pitch and have thumped Pakistan to take a 1-0 lead in this 3-match series. The visitors will be extremely disappointed with their showing in this game and will look to put this loss behind them and bounce back stronger. Join us on Saturday, 10th July for the second game of the series as the action moves from Cardiff to London. The first ball will be at 11 am local time (10 am GMT) but you can join us in advance for the build-up. We hope to see you for that one. Till then goodbye and take care!

SAQIB MAHMOOD IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH! The speedster says that as a team they want to win games and as an individual, they look to contribute in those wins. Maqsood says that he just looked to assess the condition and was trying to hit the right lengths. Further adds that with the attacking field, he was looking to get wickets. He hopes the guys can take confidence from this into the next game.

England skipper, Ben Stokes says that it was a clinical performance. Tells any game where you have the opposition 4 down early is a positive. Stokes says that the new group always thrives to get the first win. Tells they did not get under pressure today but expects it to happen sooner in the series but says the boys are ready. Stokes says he just told them to play like they play for their county and enjoy themselves. Stokes says they cannot live off this performance as it will be a new day.

Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam, says that they lost early wickets and hence they did not get a big total. Credits the England bowlers as well. Babar feels they did not misread the condition but credits England bowlers and admits they failed to build partnerships. Babar smiles and says Fakhar Zaman and Sohaib Maqsood's performance were positive. Azam says they are looking forward to the next game and will try their best to get back on level terms.

Stay tuned for the presentation...

Pakistan needed a miracle from their bowlers but that didn't happen. They bowled too many extras upfront and managed to pick a solitary wicket of Philip Salt. Playing the role of an opener, Dawid Malan showed good hands and along with debutant Zak Crawley, he formed a century stand. Their partnership didn't allow any sniff to Pakistan as England cruised to a commanding win.

A stroll in the park for England. They have registered a clinical win to thump Pakistan in the first game of the series. Everything went well for them right from the beginning. Saqib Mahmood set the tone by striking twice in the very first over of the match and from thereon, it was all England. Pakistan failed to recover from those blows and were always playing catch-up. Fakhar Zaman did give them some hope with his fine strokes but he didn't last long and the touring team managed only a paltry total on the board.

Commentary

The chase begins! The players have returned on the field. Philip Salt and Dawid Malan are the English openers. Shaheen Afridi to bowl first up...

Right then, it's a below-par total that Pakistan have managed on the board. They do have a quality bowling attack at their disposal but there are not enough runs on the board. Can they still push England in this game? Keep in mind that the English batting is fairly inexperienced and if Pakistan manage to claim a few early wickets, it could turn out to be a tight chase. Stay tuned, the run chase will begin shortly.

Needless to say that England were exceptional with the ball. Everyone managed to leave some mark with their bowling. Saqib was outstanding and so were Lewis Gregory and Craig Overton. Brydon Carse was wicketless but he bowled with good pace and looked like a real deal. The leggie, Matt Parkinson also had a good outing and picked up two, which also included the prized scalp of Fakhar Zaman. It was a nearly perfect outing for England in the field, nearly perfect because they dropped three catches. Otherwise, Ben Stokes will be really impressed with his boys at the moment.

It indeed was a great bowling show by Saqib Mahmood and it was good to read his thoughts. England will be thrilled with the way they bowled with their inexperienced unit. Mahmood set the tone very nicely by striking twice in his opening over. Imam, Babar and Rizwan were sent packing very early and the cream of the Pakistan batting was removed in a flash. Fakhar Zaman though batted with a lot of authority and played some extravagant shots. His partnership with Sohaib Maqsood tried to revive the innings but the unfortunate run out of the latter once again put the visitors off track. The biggest blow came to them in the form of Fakhar's wicket and after that, it went downhill. Shadab Khan's 30 helped them to get close to the 150-run mark but overall, it was a dismal show with the willow for the Asian team.

Saqib Mahmood is caught for a quick chat. The speedster says that the opportunity came in a weird way but they are hard to come by in this side so he is happy to take it the way he did in this match. Shares that he has bowled to the Pakistan batsmen in the PSL and got them out before so that gave him the confidence but likewise, they also knew about his bowling and in that way, it was an even playing field. Informs that there was a bit of movement with the new ball but as it got older, the pitch got better. Feels that they were lucky to have a good start and managed to keep the pressure. Mentions that getting an early wicket helps to settle down the nerves. Hopes they finish the job now with the bat.

35.2W

OUT! This time Stokes is underneath it and he makes no mistake. Overton slants in a good length ball on middle, Shaheen once again chances his arms and attempts for a big heave-ho over mid-wicket. But he gets a big top edge and Stokes catches it with ease at mid off. PAKISTAN ARE ALL OUT FOR 141.

35.12

DROPPED! Third catch put down in the field and probably the easiest. A length ball angling into the batsman, Shaheen aims to heave it over the leg side but gets a top edge. Matt Parkinson at long off runs across to his right but puts down a simple catch. They take two.

34.61

A well-directed bumper on this occasion, Afridi is caught in a tangle and fends it away off the outside half of his bat. It goes wide of backward point for a run.

34.50

Play and a miss! Short in length and on off, Shaheen attempts to play the ramp shot but misses. He has been leaving these deliveries thus far but with number 11 at the opposite end, he has decided to chance his arm.

34.40

A touch short in length on middle, Shaheen stands back and taps it down to mid-wicket. Rauf looks for a run but is sent back. Good call by Shaheen.

34.30

Carse goes short and on off, angling away, Shaheen leans back and lets it through to the keeper.

34.24

FOUR! Shaheen goes down the ground with mid on up in the circle. A delivery is pitched up around off, Shaheen clears his front leg and smashes it over mid on for a boundary.

34.10

On a length around middle and leg, Shaheen defends it back firmly to the bowler.

33.50

Overton angles in a good length ball on middle, Haris again blocks it from the crease.

33.40

Slants in a length ball on off, Rauf gets behind the line and defends it from the back foot.

Haris Rauf is the last batsman for Pakistan.

33.3W

OUT! Pakistan are 9 down! Overton digs in a short ball on middle, Shadab takes on the challenge to play the pull shot but is probably a bit early into the shot. The lack of pace has undone him. It goes off the top edge to Dawid Malan who takes the catch easily at deep backward square leg. A handy knock by Shadab but it's not enough.

33.21

A gentle push in the gap at covers for a run.

33.11

A touch short in length and outside off, Shadab runs it down to third man and takes a single.

32.60

Carse goes short and angles it away from around off, Shaheen leans back, removes his gloves from the line of the delivery, and allows it through.

32.50

Good length ball around leg, Shaheen stands back and defends it near his pads to the leg side.

32.40

Fuller in length and outside off, Afridi drives through the line but finds mid off.

32.31

Short in length and outside off, Khan dabs it down to third man for a run.

32.21

A length ball outside off, angling away, Shaheen stays back and strokes it through covers for one.

32.11

Short in length on off, Shadab pulls it behind square leg and collects a single.

Drinks break. England continue to roar in this match and have reduced Pakistan to 129/8. They are right on top and would be aiming to pick the remaining wickets quickly. Nothing has gone right for the visitors so far. They have flopped on a pitch which isn't too bad for batting. Can they somehow stretch their total close to 200? If they do that, they have the bowling attack to test the new-look batting unit of England. Brydon Carse to bowl after the break...

OUT! Soft dismissal for Fakhar Zaman. First time Parkinson misses his length and is rewarded with a wicket. A leg spinner's special. This breed always gets success with a long hop. It's outside off and Fakhar moves back to unfurl the square cut. But he fails to middle his shot properly and edges it towards point. Zak Crawley stands tall in that region and catches the ball over his head, with a little jump. Pakistan are 6 down for 90 and they have now lost their best batter.

OUT! Sohaib Maqsood is run out! What a sorry end to this good-looking partnership. A very full ball on middle, Fakhar digs it out towards mid on and comes rushing forward a run. Sohaib Maqsood responds but then to his shock, Fakhar stops. He looks at the mid-wicket fielder charging at the ball and just stops. Maqsood has to turn and go back but before he could do that, James Vince collects the ball running across from mid-wicket, charges towards the non-striker's end and then scores a direct hit. A huge appeal follows but the umpire is no keen. Stokes has a word with the bowler and the keeper and decides to take the review. Replay rolls in and Ultra Edge shows no bat. Time for the Ball Tracker. It rolls in and shows three reds. The ball has pitched just in line with the leg stump  England get the ball rolling in style.

It's time to get going now! The spectators are allowed and that makes the atmosphere superb. Ben Stokes leads his troops onto the field. Out comes Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman to open for Pakistan. Saqib Mahmood to kickoff proceedings with the first new ball. Two slips in place. Here we go...

A few stumbling blocks before the start of the series but the ECB found a way and luckily the series will go as planned. Hello and welcome everyone to the first ODI of the 3-match series between England and Pakistan. It is not a full-strength England side but it is a great opportunity for the hosts to test their bench strength under a new leader in Ben Stokes. The hosts will still be looking to get another series win in their pocket and continue their impressive summer with the white ball. On the other hand, Pakistan will be eager to avenge their ODI series loss against England in 2019. Babar Azam and co. will look to put this inexperienced side to the sword and start their brief tour with a win. But one can never be sure which Pakistan turns up on the day as they are the most unpredictable side in world cricket. An exciting clash awaits us at the Sophia Garden, Cardiff. Can Stokes get off his ODI captaincy regime to a winnings start or will Pakistan spoil the party for Stokes and his young team? Stay tuned for toss and further updates.
