OUCH! It a short ball, angling into the left-hander. Quinton de Kock looks to pull it away but gets hit on his thighs.

Curran drags his length back a touch. Malan hops and tries to punch it away but gets beaten on the inside edge. It carries well to the keeper as well.

We are all set to begin! It's an emotional day at Chester-Le-Street, one of the greatest English all-rounder Ben Stokes will be taking the field one last time in this format. The Proteas, on the other hand, would also be itching to get things rolling and start off this tour with a positive result. They are missing their regular skipper Temba Bavuma but have enough quality to put a strong performance here. There is depth in both batting and bowling departments and this series overall is a good opportunity for both these teams to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the World Cup next year.
