Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where Lucknow get their third win in a row while Gujarat will need to come back stronger in the upcoming games. Next up in the Indian T20 League is a high-voltage clash between Chennai and Kolkata. That match will be played on 8th April, Monday at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the game. Until then, cheers and goodbye!

Yash Thakur is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his senseational five-wicket haul. He says that he didn't think that he would get five wickets. Adds that Shubman Gill was trying to make room but KL Rahul told him to stick to the plan and it paid off in the end. Says unfortunately Mayank Yadav got injured but the skipper put the faith in him and said it was his time to deliver. Mentions that there is always a fire inside to best a team you haven't beaten before. End up by saying he enjoyed the wicket of Gill the most.

KL Rahul, the victorious skipper of Lucknow reflects on the team's win, downplaying its significance. He highlights the benefit of batting first for their young bowling group to understand the pitch conditions. Rahul acknowledges the team's good record at home, attributing it to the low-scoring nature of the ground and the bowlers' ability to adapt. He praises the bowlers for their growth over the years, emphasizing their understanding of pitch conditions, which he discusses with them both on and off the field.

Gujarat captain Shubman Gill expresses his thoughts on the match, acknowledging the quality of the batting surface while lamenting his team's poor performance with the bat. Despite getting off to a decent start, Gujarat faltered in the middle overs, failing to regain momentum. However, Gill praises his bowlers for restricting the opposition to 163 runs, highlighting their impressive effort on what he believed to be a good batting track. He noted that they had anticipated a higher score from the opposition but were pleased with their bowlers' ability to limit them to a lower total.

Presentation Time...

Krunal Pandya is up for a quick chat. He shares his insights after the match, stating that despite having only two balls to face, he consulted his teammates about the pitch conditions. According to Nicholas Pooran, it was a good wicket, but Pandya felt they fell short by 15-20 runs. He emphasized bowling to the opposition's strengths and weaknesses, preferring to concede runs over mid-wicket rather than through the off-side. Pandya expresses confidence in executing plans and trusting the process. Regarding Mayank Yadav's situation, he briefly interacted with him and believes Yadav is fit to continue in future matches, noting Yadav's good form in the nets and previous seasons before missing due to injury.

Earlier in the game, Lucknow posted a fighting total on a tricky wicket. Marcus Stoinis scored a fine half-century while quick cameos from Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran towards the end helped them get to that score. Umesh Yadav was excellent for Gujarat picking up a couple of wickets in the Powerplay while Darshan Nalkande also got two. Noor Ahmad was pretty economical while Rashid Khan chipped in with one as well. While chasing, the visitors were in the chase till the Powerplay, but an extraordinary collapse cost them the game in the end.

Lucknow, on the other hand will be extremely pleased with their bowling effort. They were a bit expensive in the Powerplay but Yash Thakur provided them with a crucial breakthrough by getting rid of Shubman Gill. It was then followed up by a stunning catch from Ravi Bishnoi on his own bowling to get the wicket of Kane Williamson. After that, they just took control of the game and never allows their opposition to come back. Krunal Pandya was absolutely sensational in the middle overs picking up three wickets and giving away just 11 runs. Yash Thakur then came back and bowled the first double-wicket maiden of this season which only made matters worse for Gujarat. It was once again Yash Thakur who finished the job with a magnificent fifer.

Gujarat got off to a good start in the Powerplay with Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill scoring over 50 runs. However, the wicket of the captain on the last ball of the sixth over completely changed the momentum of the game. The visitors went from 54 for none to 61/4 which put them well behind the game. A couple of questions could be asked about the shot selection of the batters as they were not chasing a big target here. They never really recovered from that and failed to build up any significant partnerships losing wickets at regular intervals as well. Rahul Tewatia played a few lusty blows towards the end but that was never going to be enough as they ultimately fell short by 33 runs.

Take a bow, Yash Thakur! He wrapped things up with a scintillating five-wicket haul here. It is the first one of this seas9n and that means that Lucknow has beaten Gujarat for the first time in this competition. They also make it three wins on the trot. It was another brilliant performance from them as they successfully defended a target in three consecutive games. They are looking like a solid unit with all the departments clicking on nicely. Gujarat will be disappointed with this defeat as the target was not a big one but their batters made a mess of this run chase.

Commentary

We are back after the Innings break and it's now time for the Run Chase! It is Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan to open the batting for Gujarat as they look to chase down 164 runs in 20 overs. M. Siddharth comes in as the Impact Player in place of Marcus Stoinis for Lucknow and will start the attack for Lucknow. Let's Play!

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Despite their best efforts, Lucknow fell short of setting a formidable target, owing to Gujarat's disciplined bowling display. The visitors succeeded in bowling tight lines and lengths, ensuring that the hosts were unable to break free and post a more imposing total. Now, as the stage is set for the second innings, all eyes turn towards Gujarat as they prepare to chase down the target and secure victory in this enthralling encounter. Stay tuned for the Run Chase.

Umesh Yadav says that he did well in the Powerplay than last few games and got the two crucial wickets which was good for the team. Adda that his hardwork is paying off and he just tried to follow his plans. Mentions that he looks for swing in the first few overs and it is also about hitting the right lengths. Ends by saying that the wicket is a bit spongy but dew could play a factor and hopes that his team will chase this down.

Opting to bat first, Lucknow faced early setbacks as both Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal fell prey to the precision of Umesh Yadav within the powerplay overs. The early wickets jolted Lucknow's innings, but KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis displayed resilience as they sought to rebuild the innings. Batting with poise and composure, Rahul and Stoinis formed a crucial partnership, rotating the strike and capitalizing on loose deliveries to steady the ship. While KL Rahul anchored the innings with a measured approach, his stay at the crease was cut short by the crafty Darshan Nalkande after contributing 33 runs to the scoreboard. Marcus Stoinis, on the other hand, showcased his prowess with the bat, reaching a well-deserved half-century. However, his innings was brought to an end by Nalkande, who struck again to dismiss the set batters for a commendable 58 runs. As the innings progressed towards its conclusion, Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni took on the responsibility of scoring runs in the death overs. Badoni played a brief yet impactful cameo, contributing 20 runs before departing. Meanwhile, Pooran held fort at the other end, displaying his prowess with the bat as he remained unbeaten on 32 runs, steering Lucknow to a competitive total of 163/5 in their allotted quota of overs.

Gujarat finish on a high after restricting Lucknow under 170! The first innings of this captivating match comes to an end with Lucknow posting a total of 163/5 in their allotted 20 overs against Gujarat. In a display of disciplined bowling, Gujarat's bowlers executed their plans meticulously, stifling the hosts and keeping them below the 170-run mark.

Lucknow, despite a stumble in the tournament opener against Rajasthan, have bounced back impressively with two successive victories. In contrast, Gujarat has experienced a rollercoaster ride, suffering defeats in their first and third matches but bouncing back with wins in their second and fourth outings. Shubman Gill emerges as a key player for Gujarat, having amassed 164 runs in four matches, including a stellar unbeaten knock of 89 runs off just 48 balls in the previous fixture. His recent form with the bat makes him a strong contender for the standout performer of the match. Meanwhile, Lucknow's Mayank Yadav shines as a potential match-winner with the ball, having delivered two consecutive Player of the Match performances in the earlier matches of the tournament. With Gujarat's middle-order batters lacking depth, Mayank aims to exploit this weakness and provide crucial breakthroughs for his team.

The seventeenth edition of the Indian T20 League presents an enticing clash between Lucknow and Gujarat at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow in Match number 21.

... MATCH DAY ...

The Indian T20 League is in full swing and we are awaiting match number 21 of the league stages. The venue is the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow where Lucknow will clash against Gujarat. Both these teams are fairly new to the league but have proved themselves on several occasions. Lucknow had a rocky start to the tournament but has caught up with the other teams by winning two consecutive games. Their NRR is also decent and they currently sit towards the upper half of the points table. They have a very strong batting lineup which might prove to be a threat to the opposition bowlers. In the last game against Bengaluru, Quinton de Kock found his momentum back and scored 81 runs in just 56 deliveries. KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis gave good support to the others but couldn't take their innings deep. Devdutt Padikkal looked a bit out of shape and he will want to find his form back soon. Nicholas Pooran, the dangerous batter from the West Indies, showcased his impressive range-hitting skills and gave a strong end to the innings. Their bowlers also put up an impressive performance and managed to keep the opponents from reaching the target. Mayank Yadav, the speedster who has impressed a lot of people with his express pace took 3 important wickets. Naveen-ul-Haq struck twice to break partnerships at crucial times while Marcus Stoinis, Yash Thakur, and the impact player M. Siddharth got a wicket each. They have found a good rhythm in this tournament and will want to keep their winning streak going. Gujarat, on the other hand, has had a hot and cold season, they started off with a win then faced a loss, and repeated the same pattern. They have lost their last game against Punjab from a strong position. After Wriddhiman Saha got out early in the innings, Shubman Gill took responsibility upon himself and kept the scoreboard going. He ended up with an unbeaten 89 in just 48 balls. Kane Williamson, Sai Sudharsan, and Rahul Tewatia gave strong support to the innings and they were just a run under the 200-run mark. Their bowlers managed to take wickets but couldn't do so in a timely manner. They allowed the opposition to build some strong partnerships which ended up being the main cause for Gujarat's loss. Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers for his two wickets while the others got one each. Gujarat has reached the finals of this league for the two seasons they completed, they will want to live up to the reputation especially when they have undergone a massive change in leadership. Shubman Gill will have a lot to think about throughout the season but for now, he will want his team to get back to winning ways starting with this game. Which team are you supporting?
