Sri Lanka beat India by 4 wickets

R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo

Right then. That is all from this game. Sri Lanka have been comprehensive and they have leveled the series. The door is upon for them to win the series, whereas, India will look to bounce back and seal this tour, with the T20I series win. The third and final T20I will be played on Thursday, 29th July 2021 at 8 pm local (2:30 pm GMT). Do join us then. Cheers!

The Sri Lankan captain, Dasun Shanaka says that they knew the wicket will be slow in the end. Says that the strategy was to go hard inside the Powerplay but it didn't go as planned. Says Dhananjaya de Silva and Chamika Karunaratne played well. Adds that he is happy all the players are putting their hands up in different conditions.

Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian captain says that the surface was not a surprise. Says that they knew that they are one batsman short but he is happy that they played well. Says that they were 10-20 runs short at the end. Adds that it shows a great character of the team to take the game till the last over.

DHANANJAYA DE SILVA IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says that they were looking to win for the past couple of months and he is happy to contribute. Says that at that point, they just needed one over with 15 runs and they got the same. Tells that playing against India is tough and they held their nerve till the end. Opines that he wanted to bat until the end and he got that opportunity here and he took it with both hands.

... Stay tuned for the Presentation ...

Earlier in the day, India started off nicely with the blade, but once the opening stand was broken, they could not really bounce back. Their run-scoring was at a slower rate and the inexperienced batting line-up kept losing wickets and ended on 132. It was a brilliant day for the Lankans with the ball, as their spinners rode the challenge and did well to restrict them to this total. In the end, Sri Lanka did enough to get the win and level the series.

India bowled very well, for a side, that had too much imbalance, to begin with, but could not do enough to win the game. Even though India could have used 6 bowlers in this game, they only used 5 of their bowlers. Varun Chakravarthy was on fire, finishing with figures of 4-0-18-1. Kuldeep Yadav was also very good, but was expensive in his last over, ending with 2 to his name. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rahul Chahar got one wicket too, not conceding too many runs as well. Only Chetan Sakariya was slightly expensive.

Sri Lanka did not start off in the best manner, as Avishka Fernando lost his wicket in the third over. Sadeera Samarawickrama and Minod Bhanuka started looking comfortable, but the former did not last long. Bhanuka kept one side to himself, but his partners kept losing wickets regularly. Bhanuka also lost his wicket and with the momentum going the way of India, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dhananjaya de Silva scored a few boundaries and pulled the game their way again. When Hasaranga and Mendis lost their wicket, it seemed that India would romp home, but Dhananjaya de Silva and Chamika Karunaratne played right until the last over and took their team over the line.

Sri Lanka have done it! They have successfully leveled the series and now, the final game of the 3-game T20I series will be the decider. Towards the end, it looked like India would do enough to close the game out but the hosts hang on and have won this game by 4 wickets!

OUT! CAUGHT! Rahul Chahar has struck on the very last ball of his spell and the dangerman, Wanindu Hasaranga goes back here. Could this be the wicket that changes India's fortunes? This is served shortish and outside off, it is spinning away too. Wanindu Hasaranga looks to slash it away, but the ball kisses the outside edge and lobs towards backward point, where Bhuvneshwar Kumar takes a few steps ahead and pouches this. Rahul Chahar is pumped up and he glares at Hasaranga, who just looks at him, smirks, does a gesture of clapping his glove against the blade and walks back. Pressure, tension!

14.5 4

OUT! CAUGHT! What a brilliant catch and India gets their first wicket. Chahar judged it beautifully and India gets an early inspiration, courtesy Rahul Chahar. A good length ball, on the pads, Avishka Fernando flicks this one aerially towards the fine leg region. Rahul Chahar runs to his right, takes the catch, just at the edge of the ropes. Realizes that he is going to go over the ropes, due to the momentum. He throws the ball back out, he runs in, gets back out and pouches this one. Right then. 133 needed for Sri Lanka to win. This is set up nicely for the hosts, as they will look to come out and level the series. The deck is slightly on the slower side and the Men in Blue have a good variety in their bowling attack. Should be an interesting chase. Join us for the same shortly.

Devdutt Padikkal is in for a chat! He says that the pitch was sticky. Says that they wanted to bat till the end and they did it. Says that they have put a comfortable total on the board and they have the bowlers to do it. Ends by saying it is exciting to make the debut.

It was spin that did the majority of the damage for the Lankans. Don't get us wrong, all of their bowlers were good, but their spinners just made life tough for the Indians. Akila Dananjaya was expensive in his very first over, but came back very nicely, finishing with the wickets of dangermen, Dhawan and Samson. Wanindu Hasaranga, again, impressed one and all, finishing with figures of 4-0-30-1, with his last over, being slightly expensive. Dushmantha Chameera was their premier pace bowler, as he took Rana's wicket, in his last over, but was very miserly as well. Shanaka was decent in his short spell of two overs.

A superb bowling performance from the hosts has seen them restrict India to a decent score, in 132. This deck was slightly on the slower side, and the spinners of the Islanders used the game to good effect and have ended the first innings, on top. The Men in Blue looked solid at the start, with Dhawan and Gaikwad. They played slowly but kept the scorecard jogging. Once Gaikwad fell, scoring runs became slightly harder. Dhawan and Padikkal raised a good stand, but that too, did not last for long. Padikkal and Samson went back one after the other. Rana and Kumar tried hard to get that final flourish, but never found it and have finished their innings on a slightly sub-par total.

FIVE WIDES! Bonus runs! Hasaranga sees the batter go for the reverse sweep and fires it down the leg side. Rana lets it be. The keeper fails to collect it and it goes to the fence. Bonus runs and much needed.

TWO! On middle, this turns away. Kumar looks to work it on the leg side but this one goes off the leading edge past the slip fielder for two.

Who will walk out now? It is Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

16.4 W 0

OUT! TIMBER! Samson falls now and the Sri Lankan spinners are spinning a web around the Indians who are in a big hole right now. This is a lucky dismissal. Samson comes down the track and the length is shortened. On middle, holds its line. Samson looks to flick but misses. It hits the pad and then rolls behind onto the stumps. Samson had no idea where the ball is, he realized late, did try to stop it from rolling onto the wickets but fails to do so. Into the all-rounders now are Lanka. Can they keep India under 130?

16.4 wd 2

TWO WIDES. Fired in quicker and down leg, Rana looks to sweep this but he misses. The keeper fails to collect the ball cleanly and the batters sneak a run. Wide signaled too.

India enter into the last 5 with relatively new batters, just what Sri Lanka wanted.

15.2 4

FOUR! That is a tremendous stroke! Probably more effective on such wickets but you need to hit it well. The reverse sweep is out. Padikkal gets into position early, it is tossed up outside off. Devdutt hits it over point for a welcome boundary. Is this the start of something for the Indians?

Gaikwad may not have been expecting it as he is quite late in the pull. It goes off the top edge and it is a simple catch to the keeper, Minod Bhanuka. Shanaka breaks the opening stand. TWO WIDES. Dushmantha Chameera loses his radar very early on. A length ball, down the leg side, the keeper is not able to stop it and palms it towards fine leg. One run is stolen. India are underway!

Right. Done with all the pre-match formalities as the action is all set to get underway. A lot has happened in the last couple of days, but we have arrived, to a point, from where the game can begin. The Sri Lankan players have spread out on the field. Dushmantha Chameera is seen warming up, getting ready to bowl, first-up. Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad will open the batting for India. Let's gooooo!

So, the four debutants for India are Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana, Chetan Sakariya, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, as they make their way into the side.

India (PLAYING XI) - Shikhar Dhawan (C), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (WK), Nitish Rana, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Rahul Chahar, Navdeep Saini, Chetan Sakariya, Varun Chakravarthy.

Sri Lanka (PLAYING XI) - Avishka Fernando, Minod Bhanuka (WK), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka (C), Ramesh Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Isuru Udana, Akila Dananjaya, Dushmantha Chameera.

Shikhar Dhawan says that they would have batted first so they are happy. Says that they are looking forward to the game. Says that all the players are ready to perform. Says that he is glad that the other boys got their chance. Says that it has been hard to stay in the bubble for the past 45 days.

Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lankan skipper says that the pitch looks the same as the first match. Feels that there might be some help for the bowlers. Informs that Ramesh Mendis will make his debut and Sadeera Samarawickrama is in the XI.

TOSS - Sri Lanka have won the toss and have ELECTED TO BOWL!

Murali Kartik informs that only Shikhar Dhawan, Nitish Rana, Devdutt Padikkal and Sanju Samson are the available Indian Batsmen.

Rahul Dravid is up for a chat, he says that since covid happened, there is a chance for the new players to take the opportunity. Adds that if they are selected in the squad, they have to be ready to play anytime. Says that no one is here for a holiday. Adds that it is good to give a chance to the youngsters and it is up to them to take the opportunity and to perform. Says that staying in the bubble is a hard challenge and they had just a little dampner as Krunal Pandya tested positive.

India have been in supreme form in the ODIs and have continued the same in the T20Is, as well. They have won the first one and are on course to win the series, but expect a bundle of changes to their side. This is the perfect opportunity for the Lankans to level the series, as this Indian side will lack in experience and also will showcase a lot of newbies. Should be an invigorating clash. Toss and team news up in a bit.

Hello, folks! Time for the second T20I between Sri Lanka and India. The game was delayed by a day as Krunal Pandya tested positive for Covid and hence, they had to ensure that they took the necessary precautions and decided that the game will take the next day and here we are. Eight members of the Indian contingent who have come in close contact with Krunal will not be taking part in the remaining 2 games. A lot has happened so far and hopefully, this game should live up to the billing as well.
