Commentary

And that's a wrap for this series! Afghanistan has dominated the ODI series, not allowing a single win to Bangladesh. Bangladesh's next assignment is a home series against the West Indies, featuring 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. Meanwhile, Afghanistan will head to Zimbabwe for a tour consisting of 1 Test and 3 T20Is. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. Thanks for joining us, and cheers for now!

Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance, highlighting the difficulty of achieving a whitewash. He praised the team effort and singled out Bilal Sami for his impressive contributions. Shahidi also looked forward to the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe, revealing that his team had been preparing specifically for red-ball cricket. He acknowledged the challenge of playing Test cricket, which they don't often get to play, but expressed excitement for the opportunity.

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz acknowledged his team's shortcomings in the series, admitting that they didn't play well and made mistakes. He emphasized that scoring runs and capitalizing on opportunities are crucial, and the team fell short in these areas. Miraz took responsibility for the loss, highlighting the need for improvement in batting, particularly in the top and middle order. With a focus on the future, he stressed the importance of adapting to the 50-over format and learning from each game to get better.

Ibrahim Zadran, the Player of the Series, reflected on his series, saying that missing out on a century hurt a lot. However, he prioritized his team's needs over personal milestones, emphasizing that he gave his all and that's what mattered. Zadran praised his opening partnership with Rahmanullah Gurbaz, highlighting the trust and camaraderie they share. He also acknowledged the challenging pitch conditions, revealing that he focused on applying his skills and experience to navigate the innings.

BILAL SAMI IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. Bilal Sami attributed his success to his hard work and the support of his team. Despite facing stiff competition from other bowlers, he was thrilled to have delivered a match-winning performance.

Stay tuned for the presentation...

Earlier, Afghanistan scored 293/9 in 50 overs after a dramatic late surge, thanks to Mohammad Nabi's unbeaten 62. Nabi's explosive batting came after Afghanistan's middle order collapsed, following a solid start with Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran's 99-run opening partnership. Zadran scored 95, while Saif Hassan picked up 3 wickets for 6 runs in 4 overs. Bangladesh's bowlers struggled to contain the Afghan batters in the final overs, conceding 44 runs in the last two overs.

Rashid Khan and Bilal Sami were the stars of the Afghan bowling attack. Bilal Sami took a fifer and was sensational, while Rashid Khan claimed three wickets. Their impressive performance ensured that Bangladesh's batting lineup remained under pressure, ultimately leading to a comprehensive victory for Afghanistan. This win marks a significant milestone for Afghanistan, as they have achieved their first-ever ODI series whitewash against Bangladesh.

Once Saif departed on an individual score of 43, Bangladesh's hopes of even competing in the match began to dwindle. He was the only batter who seemed comfortable against the Afghan bowlers. The Afghan bowling attack, led by the masterful Rashid Khan, was ruthless and efficient, leaving Bangladesh's batters with no breathing space at all.

Afghanistan asserts its dominance with a 3-0 whitewash over Bangladesh in the ODI series, capping it off with a convincing 200-run win in the final match. Bangladesh's chase got off to a shaky start, with the openers failing to set the tone. The team's backbone was broken early on, and despite Saif Hassan's promising start, he couldn't single-handedly rescue the team.

OUT! TAKEN! BILAL SAMI WITH THE FIFE-FER! What a match this inning it was for this young 21-year-old! He bowls it short, just outside off. Hasan Mahmud charges down the track to hit big, but the ball connects the upper part of his bat. It loops toward a couple of yards left of the keeper. Ikram Alikhil does well to have a jog, judge the skier, and glove the catch just in front of chest. Afghanistan wins the match by 200 runs!

Commentary

We are back for the second chapter to unfold! The two umpires are out there in the middle. Afghanistan players have scattered to take their respective fielding positions. Saif Hassan and Mohammad Naim will be the opening pair for Bangladesh. Azmatullah Omarzai will be starting with the new ball with two slips in place. Away we go...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

So, 294 is the target set on the board. Afghanistan will be keen to find some early breakthroughs to set the tone of the match. The surface has been tricky to bat on, with its slower nature making it difficult for batters to find timing and clear the ropes. There has been a noticeable turn and bounce on offer for the spinners, but under lights, will it get any easier to bat? We shall find out. The chase is coming up shortly!

Trails of wickets started falling after 173-2 in the 32nd over, and in no matter of time, it was 188-5 in 38 overs. Saif Hassan, from Bangladesh, is the man who took care of the top order single-handedly by picking three wickets. Azmatullah Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi tried to anchor the inning, but Bangladesh had already found their way back to the game. It was Mohammad Nabi who stood tall till the end of the inning and had a sensational knock of 62 runs off just 37 deliveries. Bangladesh were finding wickets from one end, but they had no answers to the masterclass of Nabi.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz is up for a quick chat. He starts off reckoning that the wicket was challenging, so they are pleased with the total they have put up. Their partnership with Ibrahim Zadran was crucial for the team. He continues that he played sensibly, but the finish from Mohammad Nabi was more pleasing to watch. Ends up saying that they need to focus on defending this total. Their bowlers are confident, and that's key to making things work in the second inning.

The innings took off exceptionally good for Afghanistan, with the picture-perfect start of the opening duo. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran were flying high and enjoying the batting pitch. Bangladesh, in the early stages of Powerplay 1, found a couple of edges, but those never got into the palms of any fielders. They both had a partnership of 99 runs of 98 deliveries before Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed by Tanvir Islam. However, Sediqullah Atal does well to fill the shoes and absorb the pressure on Afghanistan's shoulders. They both contributed 77 runs, but things started to tumble after the fall of the second wicket.

What a thrilling end to the first inning! Mohammad Nabi, you deserve a bow. The 40-year-old really proved that age is just a number when it comes to passion and intensity. Credits to Ibrahim Zadran for scoring 95 runs and giving off a strong start, Nabi's inning at the end was the cherry on the cake for Afghanistan to post the total of 293 runs on the board.

FOUR! What a finish to the innings Nabi has given his side with the bat. Short and wide of off, Mohammad Nabi stays leg side and flat bats this wide to the bowler's left for a boundary towards the long off fence. Afghanistan finish with 293 on the board.

49.54

FOUR! Nabi just can't stop scoring boundaries. On a length around the pads, Mohammad Nabi moves to his left, flicks this and tickles it in between the keeper, to his left and the short fine leg fielder to his right for four more.

49.46

SIX! FIFTY FOR NABI! Nabi is clearing the fence at will. Full toss on the pads, Mohammad Nabi swings at it and connects well from the middle of his bat. The ball sails over the fence towards the deep mid-wicket region for a biggie.

WIDE! Full and wide down the leg, Nabi leaves it. Wided.

49.30

48.46

SIX! ANOTHER BIGGIE! Fuller, on off. Mohammad Nabi stands his ground and gets right underneath it. Smashes this up and over the fence towards the long on region this time for a biggie.

48.43wd

THREE WIDES! Fired down the leg, Mohammad Nabi leaves it and the keeper once again fumbles to gather this. The ball races to fine leg region and the batter run two.

48.36

SIX! The matchup works for Nabi. Tossed up on middle and leg, Mohammad Nabi steps across and slogs this right out of the middle of his bat for a gigantic biggie towards the deep mid-wicket region.

Nahid Rana is struggling with his right foot and he walks off with Mehidy Hasan Miraz stepping in to finish this over.

48.32wd

TWO WIDES! Good length, down the leg. Bilal Sami leaves it. The keeper fumles and the batter's cross for an extra.

48.21

On a length around the pads, Mohammad Nabi flicks this towards deep mid-wicket and was looking for one initially. The fielder runs aggressively towards the ball and throws this towards the keeper's end. Nabi settles for just one.

48.10

Yorker on the pads, Mohammad Nabi flicks this towards deep square for a comfortable single but Nabi denies the opportunity to remain on the strike.

OUT! BOWLED'EM! Back-to-back wickets for Hasan Mahmud as he dismisses AM Ghazanfar. Hasan Mahmud runs in aggressively from over the wicket, hits the hard length with the ball skidding into the batter. AM Ghazanfar looks to cut this around off but the bat arrives late down from his high backlight and the ball sneaks through the gap between bat and pad onto the top of off. A golden duck for AM Ghazanfar.

47.5W

OUT! TIMBER! The inexperience of Nangeyalia Kharote costs Afghanistan another dismissal. Slower one, back of a length on middle and off, Nangeyalia Kharote looks to join the party by going down on a knee and swinging for the stands. The bat swings early and the ball arrives late, beating the batter and going on to rattle the timber. Kharote would have been better off finding the gap for one and bringing Nabi back on strike.

47.41

Yorker on off, Mohammad Nabi pushes this past the bowler for one.

47.36

SIX! HIGH AND HANDSOME! Mohammad Nabi gets onto the act now. Back of a length on middle and off, Mohammad Nabi stands still, stays leg side to it and pulls this out of the park towards the deep mid-wicket region for a biggie.

47.21

Good length wide of off, Nangeyalia Kharote drags this with a pull towards square leg for one.

47.12

Hossain sets off a bit early but gets sent back by Hasan and rightfully so. Nangeyalia Kharote sees the opportunity and charges toward the ball, picks it up and throws it directly to the non-striker's end and hits the stumps directly. Appeal for runout from Afghanistan and they seem very confident with it. This is sent upstairs. The TV umpire shows that Hossain is a bit late reaching his home when the ball hits the stumps. DRINKS! Bangladesh's slow start in chasing 294 might not be a cause for concern just yet, as they have talented batters who can accelerate the scoring later in the innings. However, Rashid Khan's presence in the bowling lineup is a significant threat, and they'll need to be cautious. Saif, looking set, will be crucial in anchoring the innings and playing a long, match-winning knock. His wicket could be key in determining the outcome of the match.

PITCH REPORT - Athar Ali Khan and Owais Shah are pitchside with their insights. They says that the pitch looks dry and flat, with no green top to speak about. It's a good surface for batting, but it hasn't yielded high-scoring games so far. The key is to be patient and play the long game. Rahmat Shah's innings was a good example, as he worked hard to accumulate runs, and that's what teams need to do on this surface. For Bangladesh, it's crucial to adopt a similar approach against Afghanistan. The pitch slows down the ball, making it tricky to hit through the line, and precise footwork is essential

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, skipper of Bangladesh, says that will be fine to bowl first. He agrees that the batters haven't performed in the last game and it's part of the game. The batting department will take more responsibility to perform better. Also says that they will try to restrict their opposition in 200-210. Mentions that under the light, it was skidding in the last match, but this time they are ready. Ends up saying that they have four changes, Mohammad Naim, Shamim Hossain, Nahid Rana and Hasan Mahmud join the playing XI.

Hashmatullah Shahidi, skipper of Afghanistan, says that they are going to bat first as it's the same pitch where they played their last ODI. In that match as well, they won the toss and decided to bat first, which actually worked, so they are going to replicate the same thing. Continues that the quality batters will surely bounce back this time. Ends up saying that they have two changes. Rahmat Shah have been ruled out for a month due to his injury, Ikram Alikhil takes his place and Bilal Sami will take the place of Bashir Ahmad.

Bangladesh (Playing XI) - Saif Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Mohammad Naim (In place of Tanzid Hasan), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (C), Nurul Hasan (WK), Shamim Hossain (In place of Jaker Ali), Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Hasan Mahmud (In place of Mustafizur Rahman), Nahid Rana (In place of Tanzim Hasan Sakib).

Afghanistan (Playing XI) - Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, Hashmatullah Shahidi (C), Ikram Alikhil (In place of Rahmat Shah), Azmatullah Omarzai, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Nangeyalia Kharote, AM Ghazanfar, Bilal Sami (In place of Bashir Ahmad).

TOSS - Afghanistan have won the toss and they will BAT first.

Afghanistan, meanwhile, are on the brink of making history with a 3-0 clean sweep. Having already sealed the series with two convincing wins, they've continued their dominance in the third match, winning by a margin of 81 runs. Ibrahim Zadran's impressive 95 and Rashid Khan's five-wicket haul were the highlights of their last game. With momentum firmly on their side, Afghanistan start as clear favourites. However, concerns over Rahmat Shah's injury might force some changes in the playing XI. Nevertheless, Afghanistan will look to complete the whitewash and continue their impressive run in the series, where they've showcased their growing maturity as a 50-over side. Stay tuned for toss and team updates.

Bangladesh will be keen to avoid a series whitewash and put up a strong fight in the final match. Despite a tough series so far, Bangladesh has shown glimpses of brilliance, with bowlers like Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Rishad Hossain doing well at times. However, their batting lineup will need to step up and fire on all cylinders to cause an upset. Bangladesh will hope to summon a strong response and give Afghanistan a run for its money. A good start from their top-order batters and some crucial partnerships will be key to their success.

A warm welcome to the finale of the three-match ODI series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Abu Dhabi! Cricket fans are in for a treat as these two talented teams clash in the last match of the series, that's already been sealed by Afghanistan with a 2-0 lead heading into this one.

... MATCHDAY ...

Cricket is not just a game of runs and wickets, it’s poetry in motion, written in sweat and silence! And oh boy, the desert of Abu Dhabi has been a canvas of such poetry for the last two weeks. As we arrive at the final chapter of this gripping tour, Afghanistan and Bangladesh meet again - one chasing a whitewash dream, the other fighting to rewrite their story. From the chaos of Sharjah’s T20I nights to the calm precision of ODI cricket, both sides have lived a tale of extremes. And now, it all comes down to pride, persistence, and maybe... a bit of payback. So, what’s been the theme of this tour? Dominance switched hands like a pendulum. Bangladesh began the trip roaring - clean-sweeping the T20Is 3-0 with fire in their eyes and freedom in their strokes. But come the ODIs, the tide turned dramatically! Afghanistan struck back with clinical precision, sealing the series 2-0 already. Can Bangladesh save face, or will Afghanistan pen down a reverse sweep of their own, literally and figuratively? That’s the question that will echo across Abu Dhabi. Now, let’s know a bit about the hosts - Afghanistan! My word, what a turnaround it has been. From being outplayed in the T20Is to now standing tall on the verge of a whitewash. Their recipe? Calm heads, clever spin, and a dash of Afghan fearlessness. Ibrahim Zadran’s 95 in the second ODI was pure class on a tough pitch - steady as a monk, sharp as a sword. Rashid Khan? He just hypnotised Bangladesh with a 5-fer. And how about Azmatullah Omarzai - batting, bowling, fielding - he’s basically Afghanistan’s all-round insurance policy. But are they flawless? Not quite! Their middle order still wobbles like a camel on roller skates. Rahmat Shah’s injury scare, Sediqullah Atal’s inconsistency, and Hashmatullah Shahidi’s need for a big captain’s knock could haunt them if early wickets tumble. Yet, the confidence they carry right now could power an entire solar plant. Their spinners have weaved magic, their pacers have chipped in, and their fielding - oh, that’s been pure heart. Afghanistan knows, one final push and they etch their biggest ODI whitewash against Bangladesh ever. And now, onto Bangladesh - the tigers who once roared in Sharjah but seem to have lost their growl in Abu Dhabi. What’s gone wrong? Perhaps fatigue, or maybe Afghanistan’s slow poison of spin. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the captain, has been their lone fighter - batting, bowling, leading, almost babysitting the scoreboard himself. Tawhid Hridoy showed grit in the first ODI, but where are the rest? Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tanzid Hasan, Jaker Ali - those names need to shine tonight if Bangladesh want to end this series with a roar instead of a whimper. Can their bowlers spark a comeback? Possibly! Tanzim Hasan Sakib has impressed with his swing and spirit, while Mehidy’s guile keeps him the best bet on this sluggish track. But oh, the elephant in the room - Rashid Khan! How do they stop him? Maybe by praying, maybe by sweeping, or maybe both. Their biggest task is mental - believe they can beat this Afghan juggernaut again, just like they did a week ago in T20Is. Because cricket, like life, loves a surprise comeback. Strategies? Afghanistan’s strength lies in control. They strangle the opposition with spin and squeeze runs dry. Bangladesh’s key is tempo - playing fearless yet smart cricket. Can they find the balance? Can someone play a defining knock to shut Rashid’s party down? Questions galore, answers await the evening breeze of Abu Dhabi. And oh, what about the pitch? The Zayed Stadium wicket has behaved like a moody artist - sometimes slow, sometimes deceptive. Expect another spin-heavy contest, where anything around 250 could be gold dust. The heat will test endurance, the lights will test nerves. Add dew into the mix, and it’s going to be a spicy, slippery finale. So, who holds the upper hand? On paper, Afghanistan! On passion, maybe both! Because when two teams play with heart, records don’t matter, only moments do. Will Afghanistan script a fairytale finish, or will Bangladesh claw one back for dignity? One thing’s sure - the desert’s about to echo with roars, spins, and maybe a few sighs of relief!
