Welcome back for the start of Australia's reply. The floodlights are just about taking effect as the players make their way out to the middle. It will be the dynamic left-hand, right-hand combination of Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh to open the innings for Australia. Mohammed Siraj will start the attack for India. Marsh to face the first ball. Two slips in place. Here we go!
... THE RUN CHASE ...
The target isn't a big one but is competitive enough for the bowlers to have a go at the Aussies. Will India be able to defend this target, or will the Aussies chase this and clinch the series? Let's find out with the chase coming up in a bit.
The Australian bowlers were top-notch, and Marsh's decision to use 8 bowlers showcased his team's depth. Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa's wicket-taking ability was impressive as they took 3 and 4, respectively. Mitchell Starc's crucial wicket of Rohit was important for the stage it came at. Starc too picked up 2. Not to forget about Josh Hazlewood, whose spell was instrumental in setting up opportunities for others, even if the wickets didn't fall to him. The way the bowlers complemented each other's efforts was key to Australia's success.
The 118-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer was the highlight of India's innings. However, after the 8th wicket fell at 226, scoring 250 runs seemed like an uphill task. Fortunately, a late flurry of runs from Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh, who added 37 for the 9th wicket, helped India push past 260. Now, the visitors will bank on their bowlers to make up for the batting unit's shortcomings and defend this total. India, despite not being at their best, goes into the break with a bit of momentum.
India's batting performance has been a mixed bag, managing 264 after being put in to bat. The top order was shaky, with Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli failing to make an impact. Rohit Sharma struggled initially but managed to survive and went on to score 73, while Shreyas Iyer played a solid knock of 61. Axar Patel too chipped in with a useful 44.

A leg bye to end the Indian innings! Full and sliding onto the pads. Mohammed Siraj swings to get this one away with the angle but fails to lay any bat on it. The ball catches the pads and dribbles in the square leg region. Adam Zampa gets to the ball quickly from short fine leg and keeps the batters down to one. India finish with 264 on the board!
OUT! BOWLED! The change in length does the trick for Mitchell Starc! Starc pulls the length back and attacks the stumps. Arshdeep Singh once again backs away, exposing all three stumps. He swings but to no avail as the ball sneaks past the outside edge and hits the top of the middle stump. End of a handy 37-run stand for India.
Low full toss, going across the batter, Harshit carves it to deep point for a single.
Almost took out the off stump! A searing yorker, Arshdeep Singh shuffles across his stumps and gets low for the scoop but misses. Arshdeep gets called through for a bye as the ball goes through to the keeper. Alex Carey collects and lobs an underarm throw towards the bowling end. Starc back pedals to get close to the stumps as the ball bounces in front. He fails to gather the ball but Arshdeep seemed in anyway. The ball deflected behind off Starc's hands but it did not cost Australia anything.
From around the wicket to the right-hander, Starc follows Rana with a full ball. Harshit can only push it in front of extra cover for a single.
Bye sneaked in! Starc spots Singh backing away early and he keeps it towards the tramline on off, on the fuller side. Arshdeep fails to reach it and the batters are able to get through for a bye.

A yorker, on middle and leg, Arshdeep Singh gets low and takes it on the full. Jams it in front of extra cover for a single. End of a good day at the office for Xavier Bartlett (10-1-39-3).
Another well-executed yorker from Xavier Bartlett, not far away from the off stump. Arshdeep Singh is late in getting his bat down and misses.
Pace off, on a good length, on middle, Arshdeep Singh clears the front leg to swing down the ground. Slices it in front of long off and by the time the substitute fielder, Marnus Labuschagne swoops in off the ropes, the batters are able to take two.
Yorker, going across the left-hander, Arshdeep Singh fails to squeeze it out.
Xavier Bartlett nails the yorker to absolute perfection, right at the base of the leg stump. Singh gets his bat down and digs it out back towards the bowler. Bartlett leaps to his right and picks it up. Arshdeep was out of his crease when Xavier had the ball in his hands but he opted not to throw.
Back-of-the-hand slower ball by Xavier Bartlett, on a length, on middle, Rana swipes it towards deep mid-wicket for a single.

FOUR! Thumped! Mitchell Starc bangs it in short, over middle. Arshdeep Singh exposes all three stumps as he moves towards the leg side. Pulls it through mid-wicket and picks up a boundary. Handy runs these for India!
Oh, my! How has that missed the stumps? Starc switches to around the wicket and attempts the yorker again. It ends up being a low full toss, around the leg stump. Arshdeep Singh backs away and ends up giving himself too much room. Tries to get bat to ball and is beaten on the outside edge. The ball sneaks just past the leg stump.
Full and straight, at the stumps, Harshit stays leg side of the ball in an attempt to go through the off side. Gets an inside edge onto the pads. The ball drops at Rana's feet and Arshdeep calls him through for a quick single.
250 comes up for India! Starc goes short and angles it into the left-hander, Arshdeep Singh is tucked up for room and mistimes the pull in front of long on for one.
FOUR! Arshdeep Singh gets in on the act! Starc goes searching for the yorker but ends up serving a low full toss. Singh takes a step down the track and backs away. Drives it firmly to the right of cover for a boundary.
Starc steams in from over the wicket and bangs it into the surface, outside off. Arshdeep Singh backs away initially and then has to reach out but fails to connect.

Commentary
A game that ebbed and flowed, but Australia managed to emerge victorious and seal the series. There is a quick turnaround for both sides, with just a day's gap between the second and third ODI. This is particularly challenging for India, with all three seamers having experienced cramps here in Adelaide. The third and final ODI of the series will take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, 25th October, with the first ball set to be bowled at 9 am IST (3.30 am GMT). While Australia will be aiming for a clean sweep, India will look to register a win in Sydney and carry the momentum into the T20I series that follows. For now, though, you can tune into the Women’s World Cup action, where India are off to a dream start with the bat in a crunch game against New Zealand. Cheers!
Australia's skipper, Mitchell Marsh expresses his delight after Australia's series win, enjoying the electric atmosphere of playing in front of a big crowd in ODI cricket. He praises Josh Hazlewood's wicketless spell, calling it one of the best none-fors he's ever seen. Marsh also commends the team's batting performance. He teases some of the younger players, jokingly calling one 'Chaos,' and expresses optimism about Australian cricket's future with talented young players. Shares that with a short turnaround before the next game, the team plans to celebrate in the dressing room.
The captain of India, Shubman Gill feels that they had just enough runs on the board, but it is never easy when you drop a couple of catches. Mentions that there was a bit of movement in the new ball during the second innings, but as the ball got older, it got better to bat. Feels that in the first game, the toss was crucial with the rain around, but not so much in this game. Shares that it was not easy early on but he is pleased with the way Rohit Sharma batted.
Adam Zampa is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliance with the ball. Zampa says it's great to have beaten India, highlighting the intense rivalry between the two teams in ODIs. He praises India's ability to adapt to conditions, acknowledging their status as one of the top teams globally. Shares that he is lucky to have guys like Starc and Hazlewood doing the job in the Powerplay and it makes his life easier in the middle phase. States that Mitchell Marsh shows no emotions at all and lets the bowlers run their show.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
After being inserted to bat, the Indian top order faced a stern examination from the Aussie quicks, with the ball darting around off the seam. Rohit Sharma looked all at sea early on, but managed to weather the storm. His 118-run stand with Shreyas Iyer brought some stability to the Indian innings. Once that stand was broken, Australia kept striking back whenever India looked to build momentum, largely through Adam Zampa. A late 37-run stand between Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana helped the visitors reach 264. Josh Hazlewood tested the Indian batters throughout but was unlucky to finish wicketless. Xavier Bartlett did the early damage and ended up with three wickets, while the damage in the middle overs was done by Adam Zampa, who finished with four wickets.
Short was dropped twice, on 23 and then on 55, the latter being the easier of the two, and that reprieve came at a crucial stage when India had their tails up following Alex Carey’s departure. Cooper Connolly’s counter-attack steadied Australia and put them back on course. When Short finally fell, Mitchell Owen walked in and immediately showed intent to take the wind out of India’s sails. Owen took the attack, while Connolly dropped anchor, and it was Connolly who eventually saw the side home despite a late wobble.
Chasing 265, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh were watchful early on, and to be fair, India’s new-ball attack didn’t give much away. Marsh couldn’t make much of an impact, while Head got a start but couldn’t kick on. Matt Renshaw and Matthew Short then came together to build a solid partnership. With two left-handers in the middle, Australia looked in control, but Renshaw’s departure opened a window for India. Spin from both ends allowed the tourists to apply some pressure.
It got a bit nervy towards the end, but the series is in the bag for Australia! Not at full strength and with the batting unit in transition following the retirements of Steven Smith and Glenn Maxwell, this win will feel special, especially after losing their last two ODI series at home. 264 was under par, and India fought hard with the ball, but it was not enough on the night. All the talk coming into the series was about Australia’s inexperienced middle order, and they have certainly shown their mettle through this chase.
WIDE! An extra from Arshdeep Singh seals the deal for Australia. Bumper, a bit too high for Cooper Connolly. The batter leaves it and the umpire calls it wide. Australia have defeated India by 2 wickets and they now gain an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the 3-match series with a game to go.
SCORES ARE LEVEL! A bit too full from Singh and Cooper was equally good to it as he gets right on top of this and drives this to deep cover for two.
On a length around off, Cooper Connolly punches this firmly to the right of long off for a couple.

Australia need 5 and India need a couple of wickets.

Good length, down the leg side. Mitchell Starc goes for the flick on the leg side but gets beaten. Starc is stunned by the decision of the umpire not to call it wide. Maybe the umpire reckons that it brushed something on the way to the keeper.
Absolute jaffa. Good length pitching around the fourth stump and shaping away from the batter. Mitchell Starc prods in front and looks to punch this down the ground but gets beaten.
Mitchell Starc is in next with Australia needing 10 runs for the win.
OUT! CAUGHT! On a length, angling away from the batter. Xavier Bartlett stands still and looks to loft this over mid off. Gets it off the bottom of his bat and hangs it over Shubman Gill at mid off. Gill backtracks and takes a good catch around the circle. Australia still need 10 and they have got 3 wickets in hand. Easy pathway for the Aussies from here despite this wicket.
Good length on middle and off, Cooper Connolly smashes this to deep cover for one.
WIDE! Bumper, around off, Cooper Connolly looks to pull but misses out. A polite appeal from KL Rahul and Arshdeep Singh but the umpire shrugs this off. Waits to see the reaction of the Indian players to see if they are looking to send this upstairs or not. Once he sees that it was just a soft appeal, the umpire gestures for a wide for height.
Good length wide of off, Xavier Bartlett hits this to deep mid-wicket for one.
Arshdeep Singh (7-0-33-1) returns to the attack. The mandatory concussion check for Cooper Connolly is done and we are ready to resume.

The ball clips the back leg before sailing over the off pole. The ball pops out of Rahul's gloves. Sundar looks convinced but no review is taken.
OUT! CAUGHT! Mitchell Owen holes out! Flat and short by Sundar, sliding across the right-hander. Owen stays back to flat bat it down the ground. The bat turns a bit in Mitchell's hand and he gets it only as far as long on, where Arshdeep Singh takes a simple catch. A quickfire 36 off 23 from Owen. Australia are 246/6, needing 19 more runs. DRINKS! It has been an arm-wrestle so far in Australia’s chase, and the game is nicely poised. India have the two experienced men, Head and Marsh, out of the way. While this is an inexperienced middle order, Matthew Short and Alex Carey have played plenty of cricket here in Adelaide and know these conditions well. Batting has also looked easier compared to how it was early on with the new ball. Commentary

Almost took out the off stump! A searing yorker, Arshdeep Singh shuffles across his stumps and gets low for the scoop but misses. OUT! CAUGHT! Googly, around off, going further away from the batter. Axar looks to loft this over Starc at the long off fence but an excellent bit of game awareness from Starc in the field gets the better of Axar here. The ball was destined to sail over the fence behind but Mitchell Starc, in the long off region, grabs it. His momentum takes him over the fence but he is aware enough to flick the ball back inside the playing area before stepping outside the fence. Starc casually walks back inside the playing area and takes this in front of the fence. Excellent from Starc as Axar Patel departs.

Time for a drinks break. India's certainly having a tough time, scoring just 46/2 in 14 overs. Shubman Gill's dismissal was a setback, and Virat Kohli's back-to-back ducks haven't helped either. Rohit Sharma has had a quiet start, but he'll be keen to turn things around, especially with Shreyas Iyer at the crease. The partnership between Rohit and Iyer will be crucial now. We are all set to get underway in front of what is being reported as a sell-out crowd. The sun is shining in all its glory as the two umpires make their way out to the centre. Mitchell Marsh leads his troops out, and they are followed by the two Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Mitchell Starc needs some repair work done on his shoes. He is now all set to kickstart proceedings for Australia. Starc to Rohit. Two slips in place. Off we go...
Well, Mitchell Marsh, at the toss, forgot to mention that Adam Zampa also comes into the side. Zampa replaces left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann. So, three changes in total for Australia in today’s game, with Alex Carey and Xavier Bartlett being the other two inclusions.
The Indian skipper, Shubman Gill says that he would have bowled first as well. Feels that since the pitch has been under covers for the past couple of days, there could be some moisture. Mentions that it is never easy in a start-stop game but hopes to put a good total on the board here. He also hopes for some movement for their pacers under lights. Informs that they are unchanged for this game.
The captain of Australia, Mitchell Marsh says that they will bowl first. Marsh expresses his excitement about the opportunity to win the series in the second game, highlighting the presence of young talent in the squad. He also mentions that the team has made two changes, with Alex Carey replacing Josh Philippe and Xavier Bartlett coming in for Nathan Ellis, who is being rested.
India (Unchanged Playing XI) - Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill (C), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj.

TOSS - Australia have won the toss and they will BOWL first.
PITCH REPORT - Shane Watson is near the deck. Shares that it is always a nice cricket surface here in Adelaide. Watson takes a close look and finds the wicket to be rock-hard. Believes that there will be a bit of moisture and, as a result, there will be a bit of grip off the seam, something the team batting first will have to be wary of. Further says that once the batters get through that early phase, there are runs to be had with the short square boundaries.
The return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma has boosted India, but their rustiness was evident in the first ODI. Kohli's impressive record at the Adelaide Oval, where he has scored five centuries, will have the Aussies on alert. With India's top four looking to bounce back after a disappointing start to the series, this match could be a turning point. The battle between India's batting lineup and Australia's bowling attack will be a key aspect of the match. Australia's bowlers, led by Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, will be looking to build on their good work in the first ODI. Can Australia continue their dominance, or will India stage a comeback to level the series? Stick around to find out.
Australia will make some changes to their lineup, with Adam Zampa and Alex Carey returning. Josh Inglis, however, will miss this match due to a calf injury. India, on the other hand, doesn't have any injuries to report, but there could be some selection debates, with Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna not selected for the series opener. A potential spot in the playing XI could be up for grabs between Kuldeep and Washington Sundar in the spin department and Krishna and Harshit Rana as far as the seam options are concerned.
A warm welcome to all cricket fans as we gear up for the second ODI between Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval. The stage is set for a thrilling encounter between two of the world's top cricketing nations, with Australia looking to seal the series with a game to spare. After a convincing 7-wicket win in the first ODI, the Aussies will be confident of their chances, but India will be eager to bounce back and level the series.
... MATCH DAY ...
'Can the Men in Blue strike back, or will the Aussies tighten their grip on home soil?' - that’s the big question as the action shifts to the Adelaide Oval for the second ODI of this blockbuster series. After a forgettable outing in the opening game, India will be itching to find their rhythm again, especially with the top order yet to click and the middle order craving stability. The visitors will bank on the experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to lead the charge, while Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer will look to convert their starts into something substantial. KL Rahul has been consistently scoring runs in recent times, while the all-round abilities of Axar Patel will be crucial as well. Their bowling, spearheaded by Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh, will need early breakthroughs to challenge an Australian lineup brimming with intent. Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar add good depth to the spin attack, but they will have to be at their absolute best to make an impact on this Adelaide wicket. The hosts, meanwhile, will be buoyed by their disciplined bowling display and a composed chase in the first ODI. Even without Pat Cummins, their attack looks potent with Josh Hazlewood’s precision, Mitchell Starc's express pace, and Nathan Ellis’s clever variations, while the likes of Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, who scored a half-century, and Matthew Short provide the firepower up top. Also, Alex Carey and Adam Zampa are back in the mix for this game, which makes them an even stronger unit. With Adelaide known for its true surface and high-scoring potential, both teams will fancy their chances, but for India, it’s about bouncing back strong and keeping the series alive, while Australia aim to seal it with authority and continue their home dominance.

OUT! CAUGHT! Surely there isn't a late twist? Or is there one? Indian hopes reignite with the wicket of Starc. Back of a length on off, Mitchell Starc looks to play this in the gap through cover but the ball shoots a wee bit on him and Starc spoons this straight to Axar Patel at point. Australia need 5 and India need a couple of wickets.
Bumper, around off, Mitchell Starc goes for the pull but gets beaten.
