Right then! Ben Stokes lifts the trophy along with his teammates and they go into the T20I series with a lot of confidence. There is a possibility that none of these players will be involved and they will be playing a full-strength squad, pending a negative Covid-test. Pakistan, on the other hand, have a lot of thinking to do before the T20Is. The T20I series will begin on 16th July at 1830 local (1730 GMT). Do join just then. Cheers and take care.

Ben Stokes, the England skipper, comes up for a chat. He says that he thinks that they have been brilliant throughout the series and the guys have been fantastic. Adds that he is thankful to all involved for pulling this series off despite the difficulties. Goes onto say that credit has to go to Eoin Morgan, Chris Silverwood and Trevor Bayliss for making the team that it is. Says that this is the culture that they have created which is to allow the players to play freely, enjoy themselves and it was fun to play in front of the crowd of Edgbaston. Goes onto say that they have some good players coming through and he is impressed with everyone. Tells that Bob Willis was one of the greats of the game and they are doing a good thing with Bob Willis foundation.

Babar Azam, the Pakistan skipper, is up for a chat. He says that they had a good time with the bat but they did not bowl well and their fielding was poor. Adds that Vince played brilliantly and credits England for chasing down this total. States that they did not bowl in the right channels and they dropped too many catches and that is where they lost the game. Adds that they will try to rectify the mistakes in the T20Is.

Saqib Mahmood, the PLAYER OF THE SERIES, says they had a pretty special week and he is very happy to have repaid the faith. Goes onto say that he tried to out the ball in the right areas and it worked. Goes onto say that Stokes has carried on from Morgan. Tells that he will take each day as it comes.

James Vince, the PLAYER OF THE MATCH, says that they got off to a quick start and the run rate never went out of control. Adds that Lewis Gregory came out and released the pressure. States that they managed to pick up boundaries regularly and were also able to knock the ball around. Is pleased to make a contribution and he enjoyed himself out there.

Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony!!!

Where did Pakistan lose this game? All I can say is their fielding. They had many chances to send Stokes out but did not make use of the opportunities but their ground fielding was poor as they misfielded a lot and gave away too many extra runs in the field. Now with the ball in hand, Shaheen Afridi had a tough day while, Hasan Ali started well but could not keep up the pressure. Shadab Khan had a good game while Haris Rauf took his career-best figures. One might feel, that if Pakistan held onto their catches and their ground fielding was better, things might have been different.

England were off to a terrific start as Philip Salt gave them a blistering start but Malan fell for a duck and then Salt, after hitting a few more lusty blows, departed. Zak Crawley looked good before he was dismissed while Ben Stokes did not make use of the opportunities he got. They were half down for 165 and it looked like Pakistan will get their first win but James Vince and Lewis Gregory had other plans. They stitched a magnificent partnership with Vince scoring his maiden ODI century and Gregory playing a fine knock. But when they departed in quick succession, England went on the back foot. Craig Overton and Brydon Carse held their nerves and took England home.

End of an excellent match for England! James Vince, Lewis Gregory and Craig Overton, take a bow! You have completed a heist and have helped England chase down 332 and whitewash Pakistan. Brydon Carse was good too with the bat. Pakistan would be really disappointed with the effort as they had a good chance of winning their first game but it was not to be.

Commentary

Welcome back, folks. Which side is your money on? The sun is shining, these are good conditions but chasing 332 is a tough task for England. Philip Salt and Dawid Malan are the openers out in the middle for England. Shaheen Afridi has got the first new ball in his hand and he will swing the ball into the breeze. Here he is, running into Salt...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then. 332 to chase. Can Pakistan win their first game of the tour? The pitch looks good but there are rough patches on the surface as well, which will aid turn and the likes of Shadab and Shakeel will enjoy. But if it does not turn, then we are in for a fabulous run chase. Stay tuned for England's reply.

In a rare off day, England struggled with the ball. They felt things were under control when Imam and Babar were batting but were completely taken aback by the shift of gears from the Pakistan skipper and the mammoth 3rd-wicket stand. The attack was launched in the 33rd over, at which stage, Pakistan were 159/2. You can see the carnage in the last few overs. Brydon Carse and Saqib Mahmood pulled things back in the end with Carse using the short ball to perfection. He ended up with 5 in his pocket while Mahmood did a decent job in his last two overs.

Babar was joined by Rizwan and the duo utilized the momentum created by the previous pair. 179 runs were scored in just 120 balls as England were taken to the cleaners. Babar was actually batting slowly but Rizwan's urgency got the partnership rollicking and eventually, rubbed onto Babar as well, who just switched on a different gear once he reached the 80s. The skipper played beautifully for his 158 and it was an innings to savor. It was this stand between Babar and Rizwan which took Pakistan post 300. They lost 7 wickets in the last 5 overs but one feels that they have enough on the board.

Saqib Mahmood did begin well though, getting Fakhar Zaman early but after that it was all Pakistan. Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam played themselves into form and added 92 for the second wicket. Imam could have actually been dismissed LBW in the very first over but Ben Stokes chose not to review an LBW call, which was confirmed as plumb by the Ball Tracker. But the fun didn't end there.

Needless to say, this is a commanding score put by Pakistan on the board. For the first time in the series, the English bowlers were put under pressure. And when the wickets did not come as frequently as they did in the first two ODIs, they buckled. Yes, England finished well, picking up some quick wickets in the end but the target will not be an easy one to chase.

OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND!  Well third time lucky for Shadab and Pakistan! They finally manage to dislodge Stokes. Flashback Perth, 2013. Ben Stokes was playing his second Test and it was the Ashes, Down Under, in Perth. It was a phenomenal example of keeping then. It is a phenomenal example of keeping now. We shall describe this one first. It was the googly, outside off and Stokes looked to play the slog sweep. But all he managed was an under edge. Mohammad Rizwan showed excellent reflexes to take the catch and Stokes has to go! In Perth it was Brad Haddin the keeper and Nathan Lyon the bowler. Both occasions had one thing in common - the ball going away from Stokes as he was attempting a slog sweep. Pakistan should be favourites now. England need 181 to win from 180 balls.

19.56

SIX! ADMONISHED! Neither Hasan Ali nor Sohaib Maqsood would be happy right now. Both gave a life to Stokes and he is making merry now. Dropped way too short, outside off, the skipper goes back and pulls it over mid-wicket!

19.40

Short, outside off, the skipper goes back and punches it towards mid off.

DROPPED, FOUR! No, Pakistan! What are you doing? Second life for Ben Stokes in the span of 9 balls. Full, around middle, Stokes comes down the track and swings it towards long on. Now, Sohaib Maqsood is stationed there, but for some reason, he is standing a few yards inside the boundary ropes. The ball comes to him but he has to leap. Sticks out his right hand, but the ball bursts through and reaches the ropes. Had he been at the ropes, Stokes would have gone past the ropes to the dressing room.

It is the longer part of the ground though and Hasan Ali actually does well to run long to his right from fine leg. Gets to the ball, it is right in his palms but drops down, just before the ropes and then crosses over.

15.30

Quicker, googly, outside off, Ben Stokes goes right back and defends.

DRINKS BREAK. Pakistan are making an impact in this game now. Only Ben Stokes stands in their way and it has to be that 'Stokesy' kind of innings to bail England out of trouble. They need more than 200 runs at a shade over 6 an over and it is going to be really challenging. The pitch is slowing down and now, it will be interesting to see how the spinners fare. FOUR! WHAM! Fine way to end Powerplay 1. A short ball, around the hips, Crawley stands on one leg, swivels like a pivot, or a hinge rather and pulls it behind square leg. One bounce and into the fence. England end Powerplay 1 on 84/2, while Pakistan were 35/1 at the same stage!

9.50

9.41

This time he turns it quietly around the corner, towards square leg, for a single.

9.30

Oohhh... full, outside off, angling away, James throws the kitchen sink at this one but misses.

FOUR! Stand and deliver! Whether Hasan Ali goes or not, this one has to go. Fractionally short outside off, Crawley just stands his ground and whips a pull over wide mid on. 10 from the over, Hasan Ali's figures read 4-0-31-1.

Problems for Pakistan? Hasan Ali has been stretching his groin for the last three balls in a row now. He is almost limping and one feels that after this next ball, he will go off.

7.50

Fuller, outside off, Crawley drives it straight to cover.

7.43

Driven on the up. This is such a lovely pitch. JV comes forward and drives this on the up through the covers. Fakhar Zaman we think it is, from that position, runs after the ball, gets to it, slides and then pulls it back to his partner who is running after him from mid off. Three runs taken.

OUT! CAUGHT! Haris Rauf has struck on his very first ball! He is all over the moon and Salt takes the long walk back to the pavillion. Nothing special about the delivery, nothing too good or bad about the shot and nothing too difficult about the catch. Just like any normal day in our lives, this one comes just like that. It is a length ball, around off and Philip Salt just looked to whip it away. Nothing wrong with that. But just that the flight of the ball was obstructed by Fakhar Zaman at short mid-wicket! Did not have to move an inch. But a metre either side of him and it was a boundary. End of an entertaining innings from Salt but England need a partnership now. 279 needed from 263 balls.

OUT! CAUGHT! What a ball from Hasan Ali and Dawid Malan goes for a duck again! He did not get a run in the second ODI and now falls for a duck. Pakistan needed this as they were put under the pump by Philip Salt in the first over and they will be pleased with this. Hasan runs in and bowls a length ball around off, angles it across. Malan looks to flick but gets an outside edge to Rizwan who takes the catch. Pakistan appeal and up goes the finger. 313 needed in 292 balls. Well, well, had Malan reviewed that, he would have been safe as the Ultra Edge shows no spike. This is the second time in this game that England have missed an opportunity.

He leaps in the air and punches his fists, showing how much this means to him. He has been under pressure for a while and this will delight his fans.

OUT! BOWLED! Boy o boy, that's a ripper from Matt 'Warne' Parkinson! Tell you what, Shadab Khan will be loving this in the dressing room. It is England who are going to bat second. Beautifully tossed up, wide outside off, Imam-ul-Haq reaches out to drive. But the ball pitches, spins in a mile, goes past the inside edge and hits the stumps! Just a little bit of rough outside the left-hander's off stump and that was enough for the ball to spin. The 92-run stand is broken and Imam walks back after a fabulous innings.

The outside edge is taken and it goes past second slip through third man. Parkinson gets across to his right from that position and slides to his right to push the ball away. Boundary signalled by the third umpire.

Huge shout for LBW! Turned down. Saqib Mahmood wants a review but Ben Stokes shakes his head. On a length, around leg, Imam looked to flick but missed and was hit on the pads, There were two noises heard and Stokes reckons that there was an inside edge. Dear me. UltraEdge shows the noise coming because of the bat hitting the pad while Ball Tracker shows the ball to be hitting leg stump! Reprieve for Imam.

The players make their way out onto the field. Saqib Mahmood has the first new ball in his hand. Who are the Pakistan openers? Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman.

Interesting approach from both sides. Pakistan have understandably not panicked and stuck to what they feel is their best XI. England, on the other hand, have resisted the temptation of fielding bench players considering that the series is done and are going with what they believe is their strongest team to inflict a whitewash. Let's hope for a cracker then.

Pakistan (UNCHANGED XI) - Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam (C), Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Saud Shakeel, Sohaib Maqsood, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf.

England (UNCHANGED XI) - Philip Salt, Dawid Malan, Zak Crawley, James Vince, Ben Stokes (C), John Simpson (WK), Lewis Gregory, Craig Overton, Brydon Carse, Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson.

TOSS - Time for the spin of the coin. It has landed in Ben Stokes' favour and ENGLAND WILL CHASE.

WEATHER REPORT - The most frequently talked about topic in England, Ireland and Sri Lanka. NO RAIN CLOUDS in the sky. Conditions pleasant for cricket and we should have an uninterrupted game of cricket. Hurrah!

What's wrong with Pakistan? One would say, lack of match practice. In the pre-Covid era, teams used to tour other countries, play a couple of wam-up matches, get used to the conditions and then begin an international series. Sadly, in this Covid era, practice matches have been abolished and teams can only play an intra-squad game, which is not actually that useful, as a county opposition can be. So, looking on the brighter side, Pakistan have had their two warm-up games done and tonight might see their first decent performance in the tour. Remember, there are 3 T20Is to follow after this. So there is plenty of cricket left.

India have one team playing in England while another is in Sri Lanka. Yet, both teams are equally capable of winning either series. In fact, if social media memes and jokes are to be believed, especially, former England skipper, Michael Vaughan, any team from the Indian T20 League can be as dominant as the senior one! Regarding England, this is not their first-choice team. It is not their B-team either. It is their C-team, which has been made overnight, due to a Covid spread in the original squad. But in both matches, do you actually feel that this is a county side? England and India's futures look very, very bright.

Why Dhoni and Morgan, do you ask? If you remember, before the 2015 ODI World Cup, there was a tri-series in Australia, which involved the hosts of course, along with England and India. Australia were way too dominant in that series and not surprisingly, pulvarised everyone in the mega tournament to follow. England were able to beat only Scotland and Afghanistan during the World Cup, while India fared way better, reaching the semi finals. However, it was after that, that the teams started to focus on their future. Look at India and England then - look at them now.

Two matches done, series done. Pakistan were shocked in the opener, England showed that it was no fluke in the second. As MS Dhoni and Eoin Morgan revel seeing the future stocks of their respective countries, can other teams start taking notice? 'Youngsters need to win us games' is the motto of Misbah-ul-Haq. Can Pakistan restore that faith in him? Hello and a warm welcome to the third and final ODI between England and Pakistan in Birmingham.

... GAME DAY ...
