... DAY 3, SESSION 3 ...

It's been a rather frustrating session for England, but by the looks of it, they are still in control of the game. However, Keegan Petersen and Rassie van der Dussen are making the English bowlers work very hard and are not giving this away without a fight. All their bowlers did bowl well and caused a certain amount of problems but were not rewarded for their good work. Ben Stokes did manage to get the outside edge of Rassie van der Dussen's bat but there was no appeal on that ball. Rassie van der Dussen will make sure he makes England pay for that one. It's only a matter of one wicket for England. They will be aiming to break this stand in the third session and capitalize on that. Can they do that? Or will Rassie van der Dussen and Keegan Petersen continue to frustrate England? A wicketless session for South Africa! They might have not scored many runs here, but they have done exceptionally well to survive an entire session. Keegan Petersen and Rassie van der Dussen have carried on their good work from the first session into the second session of the day. They have shown great resilience and determination so far. They have now put together 87 and have got South Africa out of trouble. They still have a long way to go and a lot of work to do. But for now, they will be pretty pleased with how things panned out in the post-Lunch session.

For South Africa, it's been disappointing, once again. It's just been another session of fighting hard for them. But they will be pleased about not losing any wickets in the last 30 minutes or so. After losing Dean Elgar, Sarel Erwee, and Aiden Markram relatively early in the session, South Africa were in a real spot of bother. But the partnership between Keegan Petersen and Rassie van der Dussen has done some sort of repair work. Together they have put an unbeaten stand of 34 runs. Keegan Petersen has looked in fine touch, he is currently batting on 20 and will look to continue his good work in the post-Lunch session. Not to forget, Rassie van der Dussen is out there batting with an injured finger. He has fought hard till now. But how long do you think he can go on for? As expected, the first session of Day 3 has belonged to England. They have grabbed 3 wickets and have continued their domination in this game. Ollie Robinson followed up and sent the other opener back without wasting much time. The third pacer of England, Stuart Broad came into the attack and was rewarded with the wicket of Aiden Markram for his impressive bowling. However, after taking those three wickets they found it difficult to break the stand between Rassie van der Dussen and Keegan Petersen. Well, there is still a lot of time left in this game and England will not worry about that for now. It's been a morning that has been firmly controlled by the English pacers.

South Africa on the other hand face a tough challenge ahead of them. They need to bat all day long if they need to redeem themselves in this game. England have completely bossed this Test. They were clinical with the ball in the first innings of the game and put on a strong show with the bat later on. Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes were the players who notched up their respective centuries and put together a partnership of 173 runs to guide England to a healthy lead. Eventually, Stokes decided to declare after a mighty lead of 264. They did fail to grab a wicket in the 9 overs they bowled before the end of the day, but will be raring to go and clinch this game. However, it might not seem like a walk in the park as the conditions have eased down.

Day 3, a day which is fondly referred to as the ‘moving day’ in a Test match. However, this game has already moved at a rapid pace and by the looks of it, we might just get a result at the end of the day. It is the home side, England that are in a commanding position. They still lead by 241 runs and need all 10 wickets to wrap this game up and level the series. While South Africa will need to pull off something special to save this game.

We have witnessed another engrossing day of Test cricket and the action now continues on Day 3. The first ball of Day 3 will be bowled at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). The day started with England trailing by 40 runs and they were just four runs behind when Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes got together at the crease. The overnight batters Zak Crawley and Jonny Bairstow departed early and gave South Africa an opportunity to come back in the game. The post Lunch session yielded 96 runs and no wickets were lost in that period. From that point on the visitors were chasing the game and will have to bat out of their skins if they are to salvage something. We have seen great things happen in cricket and South Africa will be hoping they can pull off something special. England are right on top and will be looking to close this game at the earliest.

England will be thrilled with their performance and have just gone from strength to strength as the game has progressed. They will be eager to run through the South African batting lineup and clinch victory. Ben Stokes got to his 12th Test century right after the Tea break but could not keep going as he was dismissed in the quest for quick runs. Ben Foakes kept going though and was well accompanied by the lower order as they built on the lead. He reached his second century in Test cricket and remained unbeaten. The skipper decided to declare early as he wanted to bowl a few overs at the visitors but despite bowling really well, they were unable to get the breakthrough. They will be raring to go when they return to play on Day 3.

South Africa are really far behind in this game but will go into Day 3 with all their wickets intact in the second innings. They trail by 241 runs still and they will have to bat long if they are to have any chance of coming back in this game. The visitors will be thoroughly disappointed as their entire bowling attack was blunted by the Ben combination. They did pick up four wickets in the session but the Englishmen were in attack mode. Anrich Nortje was the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets with Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj chipping in with two each. Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee have negotiated 9 tricky overs before Stumps and they will be hoping to build a platform for the rest of the batters.

It's been a disheartening session for South Africa! They have been made to toil and have not been rewarded with any wickets. They did have their moments in this session but things did not quite go their way. The spin-twins, Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj began the session but failed to trouble the two well-set batters. They did take the new ball immediately but got nothing out of it. Their ace bowlers, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje also could not break this stand between Ben Foakes and Ben Stokes. South Africa are still in desperate need of a wicket and they can see the game slip away from them. Can they fight back in the final session of the day? We will know soon. A wicketless session for England! Well, there is no doubt that the second session of the day belonged to the hosts. They have marched on and are currently ahead by 157 runs. Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes continued their good work after Lunch and put an unbeaten stand of 161 runs. Stokes is currently batting on 98, while Ben Foakes brought up his third half-ton, and together they have taken England to a commanding position. They tackled the spin well after Lunch and negotiated the new ball brilliantly. They will only aim to replicate the same performance and guide their side to an even healthier lead.
