That is it from this match! Zimbabwe take 1-0 lead in this 3-match series. The 2nd match will be played on Friday, September 10 at 10.30 am local (9.30 am GMT). Do join us for that. Till then, adios and take care!

Craig Ervine, the Zimbabwe skipper says, that the first 10-15 overs were difficult for batting and applauds Brendan Taylor for batting the way that he did and the foundation was nicely laid. He adds that he was happy with the total on the board and 266 was always going to be tough to chase. Also adds that he would have liked to pick up some early wickets but the bowlers stuck to their plan and the spinners bowled tightly as well, which helped them.

Sikandar Raza is THE MAN OF THE MATCH, he says that the foundation was set early on and especially by Brendan Taylor and he was delighted to see senior guys setting it up and the wicket got better when he came on to bat. He adds that he just wanted to go out their with a positive intent and run hard between the wickets and luckily for him, that's what he managed to do.

... THE PRESENTATION ...

Earlier in the day, it was the skipper of Zimbabwe, Craig Ervine who was the commander in their bating. With some quick cameos, earlier from Taylor and in the fag end of the innings from Raza powered Zimbabwe to 266 for 7.  Stay tuned for the Presentation.

Zimbabwe were disciplined with their lines and lengths. They started off poorly but once they got the first breakthrough, the doors for wicket were wide opened. Porterfield and Tector did stitch a partnership but Luke Jongwe started his second spell brilliantly as he removed the former man. The game was poised till the 40th over but then came Blessing Muzarabani, he was outstanding as he removed the dangerous Harry Tector and after that, it was just finishing the things. Blessing Muzarabani was the figurehead of the bowlers as he scalped 4 wickets. Other bowlers helped him and finished the job comfortably.

It looked like an easy win at one point but the wickets of William Porterfield and Harry Tector changed the scenario. Ireland were off to a great start, both the openers crawled to a 50-run partnership before Paul Stirling gave away his wicket. The runs were not flowing at the required rate but the Irish were staying in the hunt. Once Harry Tector walked out, the momentum changed, and with him and William Porterfield, both managed to stitch a partnership of 71. Once Porterfield fell, the hopes for the win were with Tector but he too fell just after making his 50 and with him, the hopes of a win perished. The win was almost there for Ireland if someone had kept the composure and stayed out in the middle till the end but they were second best and will be a little bit disappointed with their batting performance.

An excellent bowling display from Zimbabwe. They go on to lead this 3-match series by going 1-0 up as they were superior throughout the match.

Commentary

We are back for the chase! The players of Zimbabwe stride out in the middle. Paul Stirling and William Porterfield are the openers for Ireland. Blessing Muzarabani to start with the ball.

... RUN CHASE ...

Right then. Zimbabwe firmly in the driving seat but don't count Ireland out just yet as they have plenty of firepower in their batting lineup. The rivetting chase is coming up after the break. Don't go anywhere.

It was death by spin from Ireland in the middle overs. Simi Singh and Andy McBrine bowled in tandem and picked up three wickets between them, while also being very miserly. George Dockrell also came in and got the big wicket of Craig Ervine. Ireland, after the early breakthrough, struggled with the ball but pulled back things in the middle overs. The pacers had a day to forget though and Raza took them apart in the final ten overs. Andy Balbirnie might have missed a trick by not bringing on Paul Stirling or Harry Tector once the other two spinners bowled out, which cost them runs at the end and they have a stiff target in front of them to chase.

Zimbabwe will be delighted with what they have managed to put up on board. After being rocked early, Craig Ervine and Brendan Taylor counter-attacked the pace bowlers and the run-rate was more than run a ball. However, Taylor gave away his wicket on the very first ball of spin bowling and from there it was a different ball game altogether. Myers also fell and then Williams teamed up with his skipper to occupy the crease. However, runs were hard to come by and Williams also got out after being set. Raza then came in and the runs started flowing. Raza, along with the tail-enders, Madhevere and Jongwe hit more than a few lusty blows to end the innings on a high.

Sikandar Raza's blitz in the final ten overs has propelled Zimbabwe to 266 runs. Ireland will have to break the record for the highest successful run-chase on this ground to win this one. We are set for an exciting second innings.

Th teams, along with the umpires stride out to the middle for the national anthems. The Zimbabwe national anthem is first, followed by Ireland's national anthem.

PITCH REPORT - Due to Covid restrictions, the pitch cannot be inspected from close on but the conditions are overcast and suited for bowling. The weather, however, has been brilliant in the past two weeks and the surface will still be good for batting and history supports this claim as the team batting first has won all of the last 12 matches here.

Craig Ervine, the captain of Zimbabwe, says he would have bowled first as well and the batting at the top has been a bit disappointing and hopefully, they can make adjustments to it. He adds that the outfield is wet and Brendan Taylor and Sikandar Raza do come in along with a couple of others.

Andy Balbirnie, the skipper of Ireland, says that they will bowl first due to the overcast conditions and the wicket might be tacky. He adds that it will be tough and hopefully conditions will be in their favour and there are changes to the squad.

Ireland (Playing XI) - Paul Stirling, William Porterfield, Andy Balbirnie (C), Harry Tector, George Dockrell, Simi Singh, Lorcan Tucker (WK), Andy McBrine, Mark Adair, Craig Young, Josh Little.

Zimbabwe (Playing XI) - Brendan Taylor, Regis Chakabva (WK), Craig Ervine (C), Dion Myers, Sean Williams, Wesley Madhevere, Sikandar Raza, Luke Jongwe, Wellington Masakadza, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava.

TOSS - Both the captains are out in the middle. Andy Balbirnie, the skipper of Ireland has the coin in his hand. He gives a flip and it lands in favour of Ireland. They have elected to bowl first!

UPDATE 10.08 am Local (09.08 am GMT) - Well, the news coming from the center is that due to a wet outfield, the toss has been delayed. An inspection will take place at 10.20 am. Stay tuned for further updates.
