...THE CHASE...
An excellent performance from the Bangladeshi bowlers. They took a beating in the second match but this time they were more consistent and accurate with the ball. Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam were brilliant at the start and later, the spinners handled the middle phase brilliantly. Bangladesh have done exceptionally well with the ball and have a good chance to avoid a whitewash. Stay tuned for the chase.
So, a team that scored more than 300 has failed to get near 150 this time. A quick turnaround for Afghanistan who will be kicking themselves with their batting performance. It was the openers who laid the foundation in the previous match but this time but both fell inside 6 overs. The wickets kept on falling and Afghanistan ended with a below-pat total. Afghanistan needed a miracle to win here. Fazalhaq Farooqi tried his best by taking two quick wickets but there were short of runs dearly. Only Azmatullah Omarzai clicked with the bat which was clearly not enough. Afghanistan win the series but would have loved to wrap the series with a better performance.
A dominating performance by Bangladesh and they have avoided the whitewash on the back of good performance. The bowlers did a great job to restrict Afghanistan to such a score. The likes of Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed and the spinners did well to keep it neat and clean. Discipline and wickets early on was the key for Bangladesh in this match.

We are now down to the third and final ODI in this three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and Afghanistan at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Before a ball was bowled in this series, Bangladesh were the favourites to win the series, considering their dominant ODI record at home. However, a spirited Afghan side that has been clinical in both ODIs has helped them gain an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Hashmatullah Shahidi and Co. would want to dish out a 3-0 hammering, whereas Bangladesh will look to avoid a whitewash. In the second ODI, after being inserted into bat, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran notched their respective hundreds on their way to a 256-run opening stand. Once this partnership was broken, Afghanistan lost their way, losing 8 wickets for 75 runs. In their pursuit of 332, Bangladesh could never get going, and it was only Mushfiqur Rahim who showed some fight. In both ODIs, Bangladesh’s batting unit has let them down, and the home fans will be hoping for an improved showing. Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim have shown glimpses in the two games and will be hoping for support from Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, and Najmul Hossain Shanto. In the second ODI, a combined bowling effort from Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehidy Hasan, and Shakib Al Hasan helped them restrict Afghanistan to a manageable total, and the quartet will be expected to put in a similar performance. On the other hand, an all-round show by Afghanistan has helped them seal their first ODI series against Bangladesh. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran have done the heavy lifting across the two games, and the likes of Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmat Shah, and Najibullah Zadran will need to put their hands up if the need arises. Afghanistan needed a miracle to win here. Fazalhaq Farooqi tried his best by taking two quick wickets but there were short of runs dearly. Only Azmatullah Omarzai clicked with the bat which was clearly not enough. Afghanistan win the series but would have loved to wrap the series with a better performance.
A dominating performance by Bangladesh and they have avoided the whitewash on the back of good performance. The bowlers did a great job to restrict Afghanistan to such a score. The likes of Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed and the spinners did well to keep it neat and clean. Discipline and wickets early on was the key for Bangladesh in this match.
