What a sensational phase of play for India. Jadeja started well and got Hameed very early after the break off the rough. Bumrah then showed his class and dismantled Bairstow and Pope and got to his 100th Test wicket in the process. Jadeja removed Ali as well for a duck and then Shardul Thakur again got the breakthrough removing the dangerous Joe Root. England started the session with intent, Root reverse-sweeping off the first ball of the session for four but all that changed pretty quickly as Hameed was the first one to depart. England then fell like a pack of cards as they lost Bairstow, Pope and Ali pretty quickly. Only Root managed to stay solid and England would have banked on him to stay for long but that didn't happen as well. England need another 175 runs but that is way out of their reach and only have 2 wickets in the tank.

India bossed this session completely! The bowlers managed to scalp six wickets to put England on the back foot and are on the verge of a victory. England will have their heads down and will be pretty disappointed with how they played post Lunch.

The Indian bowlers couldn't extract much from the pitch but didn't allow English openers to score singles too easily. They bowled a lot fuller and straighter but the batters did well to combat that. It was then Shardul Thakur, who scalped the first wicket in his first over itself to make early inroads. India had Malan too later and could have had Hameed earlier but was put down by Siraj on 55. India need 8 wickets and England need 237 more. It won't be easy particularly with Ravindra Jadeja bowling in that rough patch but the pitch is still good to bat on and England would love to take it to their advantage. What will happen? Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed were pretty solid at the start. Burns brought up his half century as well but got out right away after that. Hameed continued to stay solid as he went past his fifty while Malan did well to hang around despite Jadeja causing some problems to the left-hander but lost his wicket in a run out as there was a mix-up between him and Hameed. England would now hope that Joe Root and Haseeb Hameed continue to bat as long as they can.

This session is a shared one but India will be happier of the two sides. The bowlers bowled well and India have managed to scalp two wickets in the first session to put England on the back foot but Haseeb Hameed has done pretty well to stay solid and would want to make it into three-digit scores.

Shardul Thakur is up for a chat - He says that the game is equally poised and everyone is looking for a result as both the teams are pushing hard for it. Mentions that all India need is an opening and the pressure will mount on the English batsmen. Tells that they just have to try building the pressure on them and hope for the best. Adds that there can be a little reverse swing on offer for the pacers from the old ball and Jadeja should keep bowling on the rough patch.

PITCH REPORT - Dominic Cork is inspecting the deck and says that the sun is shining bright and the batsmen should enjoy batting on the wicket today. Informs that the only issue is a follow-through patch, which Jadeja should look to take advantage of but still the batsmen should feel confident and India will have to bowl really well to get 10 wickets.

The equation is pretty simple for both teams. India need 10 wickets to take a 2-1 lead in the series while England need 291 runs to win the Test and record the highest successful run chase at the Oval. With all three results possible, this Test hangs in balance and promises to be yet another intriguing day of cricket.

Hello and a warm welcome to the fifth and the final day of the fourth Test match. The pitch continued to remain flat on Day 4 and the visitors extended their lead to 367 courtesy to Shardul Thakur and Rishabh Pant's vital 100-run partnership and then some handy contributions from the lower-order. After a tiring long day in the field, England openers did a commendable job as they didn't give any chance to the visitors and ended Day 4 with 77/0. Right then! This game is nicely poised and it looks set for an exciting finish on Day 5! India would want to come out and pick wickets quickly but it won't be easy as this pitch is very flat. England, on the other hand, would look to continue the good work and try to chase down this total. The equation is - 291 runs, 10 wickets. There is nothing for the bowlers and Indian bowlers were made to work hard. Umesh Yadav bowled decently in his opening spell while Bumrah too showed why he is one of the best but to no reward. India bought in Jadeja quickly so that he could bowl in the rough and trouble the batsmen but he found it tough going too. Mohammed Siraj troubled Haseeb Hameed a little but he survived.

England started off really well, with both Burns and Hameed looking in very good touch. They played with caution and played some lovely shots in the middle. Burns has looked solid while Hameed too has looked really solid. He faced some close shaves but he has managed to survive and England have done really well to stay unbeaten on Day 4.

A very good session for England! They would have wanted to start well and they have done that. A superb beginning to the 4th innings. India, on the other hand, would be disappointed as they would have wanted to pick up some quick wickets but they have not been able to do it.

Gary Pratt, Gary Pratt, howzzat? This is for all cricketing fans. How many of you remember Gary Pratt? He never played a game for England but is remembered fondly by many fans of the Ashes and England. Of course, bitterly by Australia as well. The then Aussie captain, Ricky Ponting, had raised the usage of substitutes on the cricketing field and got angered and irritated when Pratt fired a throw from cover to catch Ponting short at the bowler's end, during the 2005 Ashes. Something similar could have happened here. Full, around off, Rory Burns came forward and then went back to play it to the leg side. Now, as is the flow of momentum, Burns went out of the crease and at that very moment, Suryakumar Yadav, the substitute, standing at short leg, stopped the ball to his left. He immediately transferred the ball to his right hand and fired a throw at the striker's end. He missed and every Indian player on the field had his hands over his head. Was Burns caught napping? He does get two overthrows as the ball goes to fine leg. No sir. Replays show that even if Yadav had hit the stumps, Burns would have been home. Surya reacted swiftly but so did Burns as he did not commit the cardinal sin of committing way too much into the run. So he was able to stop and turn back and get his bat back in the crease, before the ball could hit the stumps. Fantastic cricket at the end of the day, giving us more drama!

He asked Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahane and even Rahul. None of them looked even remotely confident and Surya even shook his head. 'AAGE AAKE KHELA WOH?' asked Kohli. Meaning, 'Did he lunge and play?' Kohli was seemingly indicating that because of that lunge, the ball might have hit him low on the pads. Contrary to everyone's suggestions, Kohli went for the review, purely on his gut instinct. However, Ball Tracker showed the ball to be going over the leg stump. Cannot blame Kohli totally here, one could imagine that lunge from Hameed might have tempted him to think that the ball will hit the wickets. Review lost by India.

EDGED AND FOUR! Uffff! Why is there that gap between the keeper and second slip? You normally see this from Kohli, when he removes his second slip and pushes his first slip fielder a bit wide. That creates a gap between the keeper and that wide first slip. And more often than not, the ball goes right through that gap. It does so here again. England toiled hard throughout but they have been hammered by the Indians. Shardul Thakur and Rishabh Pant took them to the sword and they faltered. All the seamers looked tired from the workload but they gave it their all. It looked like it will be a wicket-less session but Root and Ali provided them the two breakthroughs. They would now look to pick up the remaining two wickets as quickly as possible. Will India declare soon or will England get them all out? India started well after Lunch as Shardul Thakur and Rishabh Pant kept milking the runs and once the lead went past 300, they started to attack and helped India gain momentum. Thakur reached his fifty and then fell while Pant too departed after getting back to form. One thought that the declaration might come after Pant's dismissal but India felt they could get more runs and what we are seeing is another partnership forming. Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah kept England at bay while playing some lovely shots in the middle. That stand is worth 31 and it has taken just 39 balls. One feels that post Tea, the visitors will bat for 30-45 minutes and then declare, with a probable lead of around 400. 43 overs are left in the day, so plenty of time left.

Another great session for India. They are well on top as they lead by 346 runs. They will be pleased with the effort and Virat Kohli looks a happy man in the dressing room. England look deflated and they need a big performance if they want to forget win, even save the Test from here.

England were brilliant with the ball, they have been lethal and have bowled superb lines and lengths. Chris Woakes was terrific while Robinson, Anderson and Overton were decent as well. Moeen Ali was the one who got into the wickets column on Day 4 and they would look to wrap up this innings as quickly as possible. India, on the other hand, would look for one more hour with the bat post Lunch. That should swell the lead close to 300 and put them into safe territory. India started the day well, with Jadeja and Kohli doing a very good job. Kohli played some lovely shots but then Jadeja and Rahane fell in quick succession to put them on the back foot. The runs dried up and Kohli too departed. Pant and Thakur have kept England at bay since then but they have a job to do after the break.

BREAKING NEWS! There is some news coming in that 4 of India's backroom staff, including Ravi Shastri are in isolation as they returned a positive Covid Test. However, the good news is that all the Indian and English players took their respective tests and none of those returned positive. Phew.

Pitch report - Dominic Cork says that it has turned into a belting batting track and it has dried up a little. Adds that it will be very interesting to see what Day 4 brings. States that if a heavy roller is used, then the pitch might become flatter.

Rohit Sharma is up for a chat. Rohit says that he was mentally prepared for the challenge and he knew that the management had faith in him. Adds that they always have to take risks and he was ready for it and it did not come to him as a surprise. States that he wanted to get big runs and he is pleased that he was able to play 250 balls. Adds that it was his goal to play as many balls as possible and spending time in the middle is the biggest takeaway.

Breaking news - KL Rahul has been fined 15 percent of his match fees as he showed dissent when he was given out caught behind on Day 3. A demerit point has also been added to his disciplinary record.

England, on the other hand, are in trouble. If they want to make a comeback in this game, they would need to pick up wickets as quickly as possible. They have already conceded a lead of 170 but they are not out of the game yet and if they can restrict India to as low a lead as possible, they can win from here. All-in-all, an exciting day awaits us.

How much will India aim for? That is the question in one's mind right now. Anything above 300 would be a very good score and India would want that. Kohli is looking in good touch and India would hope that he, along with the rest of the batters can stick around and take India past the 300 lead. After a riveting Day 3, it is India who have moved ahead in the game as they lead by 171 runs and are looking good, despite losing two set batters late on Day 3. They have Kohli and Jadeja in the middle and they have plenty of batting left. England, on the other hand, are in need of wickets quickly before the lead swells up more. They have bowled well but with little reward. What will happen here?

England will have a fairly new ball to work with in the morning session and they would aim to create early inroads and restrict India's lead to as low as possible. England were mostly on the money but managed to pick only three wickets in the day's play. Missing out on a couple of opportunities to dismiss Rohit Sharma, in the first hour of the morning session, proved to be fatal. Not many would remember but Sharma offered a run out chance when he was on 28 but Anderson failed to score the direct hit from mid on. After that, there was one more chance to catch Rohit's edge but Rory Burns once again was the culprit. Rohit Sharma went on to score his maiden Test hundred outside home and made England pay heavily.

The first session was quite challenging for the batsmen but India braved that with minimum damage as they lost only KL Rahul. Day 3 is usually considered to be the best batting day at The Oval and as expected, the conditions were ripe for batting in the afternoon and the Indian pair of Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara prospered. Their century stand pushed the hosts into a corner and they looked out of ideas. The pitch flattened out and the soft ball was not doing anything threatening.

From 99 down to 171 ahead. India have stormed back into this Test match. Apart from that one over with the second new ball when Ollie Robinson removed both Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara in quick succession, the day belonged entirely to India. If Day 3 is the 'moving day', then this Test match has moved in favour of the visitors, at least for now.

Update 5.42 local (4.42 GMT) - The umpires are checking the light again! The crowd is booing and that means only one thing - PLAY STOPPED DUE TO BAD LIGHT. Joe Root wanted to bring Chris Woakes into the attack and the umpires had no other option but to stop the play.
